I dunno, I thought 2004 went well - we didn't elect Mr. Pinko Commy. In 2000, we didn't give the world a fairy that would grind progress to a halt by turning everything "green" like those IBM Commercials.

Third time is the charm is more what should have been said in 2000 - please see the youtube video as to how clinton screwed everything over.

By the way, Deck Knight was merely looking for a phrase as opposed to impediment. I believe he meant to say "can you not read between the lines" - that is actually something that most people take for granted (that everyone reads between the lines in the same fashion that the believer does).

Obamasnow used Avalanche!
It's Super-Effective!

Republicans' ReliCainth fainted!
Republicans' out of useable pokemon!
Democrats wins!

thought I'd throw a pokemon humor twist on the situation, heh heh heh

And I agree with Peanut Lover, the economy is what was my movitating factor in whom to choose. (not that I got to choose, seeing as I forgot about deadline registration to vote... ><)
Rofling, that is good.

By the way, Deck Knight was merely looking for a phrase as opposed to impediment. I believe he meant to say "can you not read between the lines" - that is actually something that most people take for granted (that everyone reads between the lines in the same fashion that the believer does).

No, he meant to throw an insult at me, and that's exactly what he did.

As an aside, "reading through the lines" with regards to facts and evidence will only lead you to see things that aren't there. Reading through the lines is - literally - reading something that wasn't actually said. I don't consider that an efficient practice when weighing up data, lol.

Also I'd like to point out that McCain had suspicious donations as well (not in the same amounts as Obama, but then, Obama raised a hell of a lot more anyway), so this whole attempt to paint Obama as a fraudster is really quite laughable.

Congratulations to Obama, let's just hope he restores what Bush destroyed. o_O

"Is our children learning?"
"I believe that humans and fish can coexist peacefully."
"The only problem with the French is that they don't have a word for entrepeneur"

And to think he served 2 terms.

We don't give a crap about what anyone else thinks.

This is the United States elections - we didn't appreciate when people chanted "Obama" in France, Germany, or Jordan, because, they can't vote. Did you notice that polls dropped with his world tour? Americans don't care about what Socialist Europe,or China, or Africa think of us. If they see us as agressive, then good - they will fear us and get out of our way (like when Reagan was here). When we appear as Pansys, we are seen as weak, and vulnerable. Case in point: Jimmy Carter, JFK, FDR.

Frankly, you guys are just worried over our economy, and whether we leave Iraq so that you can prosper.
Actually, Obama received a brief "Berlin Bounce" after his world tour. It's very easy to assume that it's ok to be completely aggressive because we are currently the only "global power" in the world. Although it is logical to say that we should not care about what non-Americans have to say about our election because they cannot vote in it, many Americans should, and in fact, do care about what other people around the world think of them. America is a global power, so good, diplomatic relationships with other countires are an essential component of foreign policy. Not to mention that rapidly developing countries like Argentina, China, and Brazil may also obtain "global power" status within the next decade, so being liked by other foreign countries will be even more crucial in the future.

A big step forward for black people. A big step backwards for gays. We don't have equality yet.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Joe Biden say in the vice-presidential debate that "his party" wished for gay rights, or something to that effect? I remember Sarah Palin making herself out to be a complete bitch and totally denouncing gay rights/abortion, but Joe said that even though he didn't personally support it, his party would be getting gays the same tax cuts etc. that married couples do, not to mention legalize gay marriage.

I dunno, I thought 2004 went well - we didn't elect Mr. Pinko Commy.

What the fuck?

In 2000, we didn't give the world a fairy that would grind progress to a halt by turning everything "green" like those IBM Commercials.

No, instead we elected a moron who got us involved in two unnecessary wars, destroyed out economy, and ruined out international reputation. I fail to see how electing someone who wants to prevent global warming and remove our dependence on foreign oil is a comparatively poor choice.

Third time is the charm is more what should have been said in 2000 - please see the youtube video as to how clinton screwed everything over.

Yes, by leaving us with a 5 trillion dollar surplus, which Bush promptly lost. I am not a huge Clinton fan, but this is silly.

By the way, Deck Knight was merely looking for a phrase as opposed to impediment. I believe he meant to say "can you not read between the lines" - that is actually something that most people take for granted (that everyone reads between the lines in the same fashion that the believer does).

No, it is clear from his usual hate-filled diatribe that he meant exactly what he said.

At any rate, congratulations to Obama for his victory and for (it appears) turning my state blue, but this is a bittersweet victory. Bachmann was somehow reelected, and it seems as though Prop. 8 has passed in California. We still have a long way to go in this country; hopefully in the wake of the rhetoric actual change will follow. Also, congratulations to Kay Hagan for handily defeating the embarrassing Elizabeth Dole.

You know what? I'm going to miss George W. Seriously, the man's been there for eight years and he just always managed to entertain me. Seriously, look at this:
_42854329_bush_getty.jpg

I don't think Obama will give us moments like this. Seriously, I will miss you George.

*starts playing taps for the safety of our country*

Deck Knight, you are my new hero. Let's see what Nobama can screw up in his hopefully short term (like <4 years, please).

I really hope you're not suggesting assassination. Really.

Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Indiana, Ohio, Florida... this was a TROUNCING. "Landslide" doesn't even begin to describe this victory, the American people stood up as one and let their voices be heard. I'm proud of what was accomplished yesterday, I love the fact that I keep hearing stories about people dancing and celebrating in the streets. America needed this.

Colorado, New Mexico, Virginia and North Carolina all change party in the Senate. I'll be honest, I knew before yesterday that Obama was going to win, I've been watching the Senate races more than anything. I can't fucking believe that Stevens is still leading in the Alaskan race, there is truly something wrong with those people.

My mom called me an hour ago, and while talking she related a quote that someone said yesterday that I think needs to be passed on:

"Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther King could walk. Martin Luther King walked so Obama could run. Obama runs so that we can fly."

From some guy on NPR.

I really hope you're not suggesting assassination. Really.

I think he was more likely suggesting impeachment and removal from office, at least I hope so.

America needed this.

Needed what? I'm not asking this sarcastically either, people have said this quite often and I really don't know what they are referring too.

Now he just has to live up to his massive promises, which he likely never will. And so the cycle repeats. His promises will fall through, and in 4 to 8 years Republicans will reign again. They won't follow through and fail on their promises, and Democrats will take over. So on and so forth. Maybe a competent individual will finally break this cycle one day; however unlikely that might be.

Deck Knight, I say you are either really rich, in the South, or an ignorant idiot.

Everyone, yes, even you, need to pitch in to make a America a country again. Why? Cause half of you re-elected a fuck-up, and everyone will have to suffer.

If you look at the exit polls, it will show that race got nothing to do with this. For the people who thought race said race influenced their vote, they voted 60~% Obama. On the other hand, for those who thought race had nothing to do with their vote yield almost the same results.

If you were to look at more exit polls, 70% of the people think that if Obama is elected, they will most likely to have a tax increase. On McCain's end, there are 60~%, meaning there people who think that tax will increase regardless of which president is elected.

So why? The answer to that is Bush. Almost 70% voted for Obama because they hated the Bush Administration. What that means is that McCain basically couldn't shook the "Bush v2.0" image off him. Plus, the negative campaigning in the South didn't help at all, not by Obama, but by the people of the South themselves, making complete fools for themselves.

People in the rest of the world hated America now for the past 6 years, not because Bush was a complete idiot (that was just the cherry on top of a pile of shit). Because I am a citizen part of "the rest of the world", I'll tell you why. It's because America's throne is stained with blood, it is because America always pokes his nose where he didn't belong; It is because of stupid foreign policies; It is about the corruption in the government; it is because Americans in general are ignorant about the world aside from their own.

Sure, America is "at the top" now, but what about 10 years from now? 20 years from now? People need to start looking at the big picture, the global picture. America cannot sit in their throne, staring down at other countries with Power, that is the ultimate downfall for anyone, as nothing is eternal.

ITT Angry Republicans and Annoying Democrats.

So Obama won, I can only hope he does something stupid soon so SNL can make a hilarious skit about it. Obama better not CHANGE that circle of funny.

(I hope that he does have sexual relations with that woman)

And also, lay off the south clear. Thems fighting words.

Needed what? I'm not asking this sarcastically either, people have said this quite often and I really don't know what they are referring too.

Sorry, I did leave that rather vague. What I was referring to is the voter turnout: it was easily the most active vote in Amerian history. All those celebrities tried their damnedest to get young voters out back on 2004, but nobody liked Kerry or Bush enough to bother. This time, though, Obama galvanized the youth/non-voters of this country into action, no matter who they ultimately voted for. When I say "we needed this," I mean we really needed to kill the rampant apathy in this country.

was raised in one country but my father was born in another was not his only child. He fathered several children with a number of women.

I became very close to my mother because my father showed little interest in me. Then my mother died at an early age from cancer.

Later in life, questions arose over my real name.

But I practiced non-traditional beliefs and did not follow mainstream Christianity.

I had a virtually non-existent resume, very little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization.

Yet I was a powerful speaker who managed to draw incredibly large crowds during my public appearances.

At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy. I was critical of my country in the last war.

But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy. I had a plan on how we could do better.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess.

Mine was a peoples campaign.

I was the surprise candidate because
I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics and was able to gain widespread popular support.

I offered the people the hope that together we could change our country and the world.

I spoke on behalf of the downtrodden including persecuted
minorities such as Jews, but my actual views were not widely known until after I became my nations leader.

However, anyone could have easily learned what I

Then I became the most powerful man in the world.

And the world learned the truth.

Who am I?

Adolf Hitler

Hitler 1889 - 1945, founder and leader of National Socialism (Nazism)

-It's True what they say, History does repeat Itself!

"who the fuck cares"

There is almost no major substantive difference in the policies of mccain and obama at least on the economy - they both supported the bailout, they both support "tax cuts", they both support cap-and-trade, they both support bigger government (Obama wants more social welfare, McCain wants more imperialism).

fine, fine, we need change, but if you want change, why the fuck would you vote for obama (Well, other than "only two guys on the ballot") - at best he's bill clinton (moderate centrist who compromised with GOP congress) who's a hell of a lot more socially liberal; at worst he's jimmy carter (moderate centrist who got punked by democratic congress) who's a hell of a lot more socially liberal.

I dunno, that doesn't sound like change you can believe in (as opposed to Ron Paul or maybe Dennis Kuchinich, or even some of the been there done that guys like Nader.)

Seriously - what's so special about Obama's policies? When I hear "change" I think "change in political paradigms" not "change from one party to another".

Basically, the point is "vote third party next time" (unless the GOP nominates Ron Paul)

(btw on cnn someone was waving a soviet flag when the news of obama's victory came in - make of that what thou wilt :P)

Sure, America is "at the top" now, but what about 10 years from now? 20 years from now?

I can accept that, but they will only get to the top by adopting our model. Look at the rising countries like India, China, and Mexico. They are moving towards free-market capitalism, privatization and deregulation, and have been for a decade. Even Europe is moving in that direction. Whereas we seem to be moving away from that model.

KDR40 said:
hitler comparisons

honestly he reminds me of fdr more (which is not very reassuring to me!)

i'd certainly put him (as with many reputed political leaders) in the "demagogue" category - you kind of have to be to get people to hand you power.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Joe Biden say in the vice-presidential debate that "his party" wished for gay rights, or something to that effect? This is accurate other than the part about gay marriage(Obama and Biden are for "Civil Unions" but neither are interested in trying to fight the semantics battle about marriage), but I still find it highly unlikely anything actually happens. As far as I know gays went 0/4 across four different states in legislature, it made the "Gay, Straight" part of Obama's speech last night seem kind of silly on what was essentially the single worst political night for gays in US history.

I would be surprised if they actually do anything other than "leave it to the states," which is the same as doing nothing since no state has a population with a majority pro-civil unions.

This is so stupid and acidic that I feel compelled to respond.

I was raised in one country but my father was born in another was not his only child. He fathered several children with a number of women.

Hitler was born and raised in Austria. So was his father.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitler#Childhood_and_heritage
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alois_Hitler#Birth

I became very close to my mother because my father showed little interest in me. Then my mother died at an early age from cancer.

Hitler became close to his mother because his father beat them both. This is not comparable to Obama's relationship with his father; if anything, you could compare this to the relationship Gerald Ford had with his mother.

Later in life, questions arose over my real name.
My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a reliable birth certificate.

This also is a ridiculous comparison.

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/11/03/obamas-birth-certificate-verified/
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2008/jun/27/obamas-birth-certificate-part-ii/

Obama's birth certificate has been confirmed. I don't see what this has to do with Hitler, who actually did change his name.

I grow up practicing one faith, but converted to Christianity
because this was widely accepted in my country.

Obama has never practiced any religion but Christianity: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

Hitler was raised a Catholic; he did not "convert" to Christianity: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler%27s_religious_beliefs#Childhood_and_youth

But I practiced non-traditional beliefs and did not follow mainstream Christianity.

This is true of Hitler but not of Obama.

I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and I embarked on a new career.

So being lower class is somehow sinister?

I wrote a book about my struggles growing up.
It was clear to those who read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.

I am betting that you have not read Mein Kampf. Or Obama's books, for that matter.

I became active in local politics when I was in my 30s and then burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office when I was in my 40s.

Theodore Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Grover Cleveland Alexander, James A. Garfield, Ulysses S. Grant, Franklin Pierce, James K. Polk, and Bill Clinton were also in their 40s when elected. What is your point?

I had a virtually non-existent resume, very little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization.

Apparently being a community organizer, lecturer on constitutional law for 14 years, state senator, and U.S. senator is a "virtually non-existent résumé".

Yet I was a powerful speaker who managed to draw incredibly large crowds during my public appearances.

Since when is being a good speaker a bad thing? Reagan was a good speaker as well.

At first, my political campaign focused on my country's foreign policy. I was critical of my country in the last war.

This is not true of Hitler at all. Next time, do a little research rather than copy/pasting every wingnut chain email you receive.

But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country's economy. I had a plan on how we could do better.

Yes, and Hitler's economic reforms were actually extremely good for Germany. I fail to see your point here; economics are a major issue in many Presidential campaigns.

I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess.

Mine was a peoples campaign.

Is this a bad thing? Reagan also "knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess". So did Roosevelt.

I was the surprise candidate because
I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics and was able to gain widespread popular support.

So, being a leader who actually cares about the people and gains popular support is somehow nefarious? Guess who else gained "widespread popular support". Ronald Reagan.

I offered the people the hope that together we could change our country and the world.

As did Kennedy. I fail to see how this is a bad thing.

I spoke on behalf of the downtrodden including persecuted
minorities such as Jews, but my actual views were not widely known until after I became my nations leader.

Please stop with the fear-mongering. Obama has been just as clear about his views as any Presidential candidate.

However, anyone could have easily learned what I
really believed if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with. But they did not.

Yes, in Hitler's case the racist ideology was clear. This does not apply to Obama at all.

Then I became the most powerful man in the world.

Hitler was never the most powerful man in the world.

It's True what they say, History does repeat Itself!

Those who actually understand historical processes pay little heed to the "history repeats itself" drivel. You can selectively compare any leaders in history you wish, and you will find similarities. Most of your comparisons fit many former Presidents just as well (if not better) than they do Obama. Your post is an absurd extrapolation and more of the hateful fear-mongering propaganda that has been virulently circulated around President-elect Obama for months. If this election has achieved only one thing, it is to show how deeply racism, bigotry, and xenophobia are rooted in the United States and how divisive these elements are. Please do not further poison this thread with your ignorance and bitterness.

There is almost no major substantive difference in the policies of mccain and obama at least on the economy - they both supported the bailout, they both support "tax cuts", they both support cap-and-trade, they both support bigger government (Obama wants more social welfare, McCain wants more imperialism).
