Essential PS3 Games

There are massive, obvious flaws to Final Fantasy XIII, but it's pretty much the ultimate "aesthetic" experience on the PS3. It's probably worth it even if only to test the sheer processing power of the console.

Yes it's pretty, too bad it doesn't actually get fun until you're 40 hours in. Uncharted provides amazing graphics with fun gameplay.

Also try out Valkyria chronicles if you like SRPGs, although if you don't like anime characters or storylines you might not enjoy it as much as I did.

as a long term ff fan i advise all gamers to steer clear of ffxiii

the ultimate aesthetic experience of ps3? oh my god are you even human

i might ban you for being a bot

i like lightning as a character because, like most guys, i've always wanted to fuck cloud so lightning lifts a herculean burden from my self-questioning shoulders

Alright, games I will definitely get sometime soon (looking at all suggestions): Uncharted 2 (maybe 1 too?), Bioshock (+2, maybe), Arkham Asylum, and either Red Dead Redemption or GTA IV, probably. I'm also still looking into Borderlands, the game looks pretty neat (reminds me of the Red Steel visuals), and it looks quite fun to play too.

Assassins creed 2 & 3 (Brotherhood if you wanna get nitpicky). That is unless you have an Xbox 360 too, get them on that instead.
Reasons: Amazing franchise, as well as when AC4 comes out (if you haven't seen the trailer, go watch it NAO), it's gonna be one of the top rated games, and you're gonna wanna get it.
Btw, if you haven't posed AC1 yet, it doesn't matter that much since there's a synopsis of the previous game at the beginning of the next.

it's not nitpicky, brotherhood isn't 3, and revelations isn't 4!!

also it totally does matter; the synopsis at the start of the games does the twists and turns of the plot (spoilers!!!!!!) or plots, if you will, no justice at all

start from the start!!

I found Assassin's Creed to be way too easy, linear and the best word I could use to describe the whole experience is 'shallow.' Ubisoft have done nothing to change my opinion by announcing AC3 a matter of months after the release of Brotherhood. I understand that it's quite a popular franchise, but I wouldn't call it essential by any means especially when there's quite a few other third person action games that blow it out of the water (Uncharted 2, Batman AA, God of War).

Just my two pence, a friend of mine loves it though so ehhhh.

edit: agreeing with Az though in that you should always start every franchise from the beginning whenever it's convenient to do so!

double edit: should probably point out i've only played assassin's creed 2 (hypocritically enough considering my first edit ^_^) so i'm basing my opinion solely on that.

As I am a philistine, I neglected to start AC from the beginning, but I've played both AC2 and ACB, and they're both awesome games and would make a great addition to your library. At this point I can't bring myself to play AC1, as it is likely worse than the titles that came after it.

Assassin's Creed II is definitely essential. You could skip the first one all together, as I found II does a great job of summarizing everything. If you really enjoy II, then Brotherhood and Revelations are probably going to be buys.

I've always been rather mixed on inFAMOUS. While I really enjoyed the gameplay the whole experience/story never really took off for me. I'll probably rent inFAMOUS 2, but a fair share of people love the series.

Assassin's Creed II was a much needed upgrade to series that didn't get a very good start. Brotherhood was pretty much just a shilled out copy of 2, with some frustrating problems.

this sums up my feelings on ACII rather well. Entertaining enough but pretty forgettable.

Also FF13 was one of my biggest disappointments. The game looks and sounds great but is a complete bore to play, and not in a "too much talking, not enough gameplay" MGS4 type of way. The game is pretty much on autopilot both in and out of battle and is incredibly dull as a result.

Also, if you have a friend to play with you, Resident Evil 5 is probably the best co-op game out there. Playing it single player is pretty mediocre, but it's fun with a friend.

I recently finished inFamous as a baddie, and I'm now replaying it as a good guy. I agree that the gameplay is fun, zooming around town with all thunder powers, but the story never really pulled me in. I experienced the same with MGS4: the game plays great, there's much to do and actually quite realistic, but I never really felt like I was in the game.

I'll probably get inFamous 2 sometime too, but right now it's a bit expensive for me. I'll probably wait till it's a bit cheaper, or available second-hand. I like the sound of AC II as well.

inFamous 2's story is a great deal better than the first. Just like Sly 2 and 3, there are some really complex and devious emotions at work here.

Can I get a holla for Sly 4 anyone?
