Event Discussion

Serebii's Event Database has the Mega Campaign Pokémon in their list of 2016 events, if anyone wants to see them. They have an assortment of moves on them, with the only event-exclusive one being Thunder Wave on Sableye. None of the Pokémon seem to have Hidden Abilities on them, so (thankfully) we don't have another legit Prankster T-Wave SwagPlay user with STAB Foul Play.

I was actually hyped for this last night. Turns out it was a translation mistake on Serebii's part. It's Shock Wave now.

Maxsoft has finally "confirmed" that it is an Arceus event. The Facebook giveaway will start on December 21st. Codes will work on Japanese or American copies of XY/ORAS, and will have until January 30 to redeem. Unlike past Maxsoft events, there will be no in-store code distribution.

EDIT: Arceus's moveset has been revealed. It is Judgment/Hyper Beam/Perish Song/Recover. It will not be shiny either.

It has been announced that the Mythical Pokémon are all to receive special distributions for the Pokémon games starting in February 2016. These are Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect. We'll bring full details on these as they come. Mew will be distributed from February 1st through February 24th at Gamespot, unknown elsewhere while Celebi will run from March 1st through March 24th on the Nintendo Network, Jirachi in April on the Nintendo Network, Darkrai in May at Gamestop, Manaphy in June via Nintendo Network, Shaymin in July via Nintendo Network, Arceus in August via Gamestop, Victini in September via Nintendo Network, Keldeo in October via Nintendo Network, Genesect in November at Gamespot in the US, unknown elsewhere and Meloetta in December via Nintendo Network.

Apparently, to celebrate Pokemon's 20th anniversary, we will be getting distributions of every Mythical Pokemon (except Diancie/Hoopa/Volcanion) this year. Even more noteworthy, for once it's not just Japan who's getting them! This is huge news, especially considering that a few Pokemon on the list (Manaphy in particular) haven't been given out for years now.

Let's hope we Canadians also get the Gamestop events, eh?

Here's the video that confirms this.

Apparently we will be getting mythicals every month.

This is pretty huge for everyone. I'm an avid Event mons collector, so I've got all of the really hard to find ones(particularly that 2010 Mew), but for those who missed the Events, it'll allow them to complete their Dexes. Wait, that means we could have pentagon event legends, for those who REALLY care. Means I'll get to finally RNG a competetive Jirachi.

Mythical Mayhem:
So Serebii has more info on the distribution:

You'll only be able to get the Mythical Pokemon of that month from the 1st to the 24th (at least for the first two, my guess they need the last week to prepare for the next event?). Here is how it goes (at least for the US):

February: Mew from GameStop
March: Celebi from Nintendo Network
April: Jirachi from Nintendo Network
May: Darkrai from GameStop
June: Manaphy from Nintendo Network
July: Shaymin from Nintendo Network
August: Arceus from GameStop
September: Victini from Nintendo Network
October: Keldeo from Nintendo Network
November: Genesect from GameStop
December: Meloetta from Nintendo Network

GameStop for Mew, Darkrai, Arceus, and Genesect. Hm. I wonder if that's because GS picked to distribute those specifically or if it just coincidence they happen to get them since they're giving away a Mythical every 3 months (in the US).

I'm guessing we'll get details about the Nintendo Network ones as they come, will we need to get a serial code from the Pokemon Company or will the event just be activated and we simply got to connect to it via Mystery Gift?

Anyway I'm excited for this! :D

Gen I Ports:
Additionally info on the international releases for the Gen I ports have been revealed.

For those in Europe you'll be getting Red, Blue, & Yellow 2DS packs which come with a copy of the featured game, code for a 2DS console theme (probably matching the version bought), and a sticker sheet (probably matching the version bought).

US, on the other hand, will instead be getting a 3DS pack which comes with both Red & Blue installed on it, 2 sets of cover plates (one with Charizard, one with Blastoise), and a code for a 3DS theme (though doesn't specify which one we're getting, though being it's only one and we're getting both Red & Blue it makes me wonder if we'll be getting a special one combining the Red & Blue console theme). Though it looks like we don't get sticker sheets. :(

Since there's no Green I'm guessing these are ports for the International version of Red, Blue, & Yellow (which is a bit of a shame, would have been neat if they also released a translated version of the Japanese Green just for kicks). Odd that the US is getting a special 3DS pack instead of an individual Red, Blue & Yellow 2Ds packs that Europe is getting (not that it matters, you can still get them on the Virtual Console; though I'm sure there were probably a few who were hoping to get a special 2DS in a special color). Also I noticed it didn't say anything about the Mew Ticket. Are they going to have it like a "secret" surprise for those who don't know about it? Now for the Gen VI games it doesn't matter since we're getting a Mew this February, but as far as I know we need that ticket to get a Mew in the Gen I ports. Though if its a serial code I guess they could also give them out via the Newsletter or some other way.

So, a year long Mythical Pokemon giveaway and ports of the Gen I games, so far the 20th Anniversary is looking pretty good. Just need one more thing to seal the deal. I'll give you a hint...

Well I'm from Europe and don't care one bit about the 2DS bundles. I just really hope that the for now US exclusive New 3DS bundle will come to Europe, because those cover plates just look amazing and it will give me a reason to buy a New 3DS. I will not get my hopes up too much, because the US gets a lot of exclusives. But I hope The Pokemon Company realizes that people in Europe would just love to have that bundle.

EDIT: Another thing that I would love to see, is that they make the for now bundle exclusive themes available in the theme shop. As I would rather not spent that much money for just a theme.

Oh, Serebii has the Ability/Item/Move info on the Mythical Pokemon being given:

NOTE: All of them are at Level 100.

Mew: Ability: Synchronize. No item. Move: Pound.
Celebi: Ability: Natural Cure. No item. Moves: Confusion, Recover, Heal Bell, & Safeguard.
Jirachi: Ability: Serene Grace. No item. Moves: Wish, Confusion, & Rest.
Darkrai: Ability: Bad Dreams. Item: Enigma Berry. Moves: Dark Void, Ominous Wind, Nightmare, & Feint Attack.
Manaphy: Ability: Hydration. Item: King's Rock. Moves: Tail Glow, Bubble, & Water Sport.
Shaymin: Ability: Natural Cure. Item: Micle Berry. Moves: Seed Flare, Aromatherapy, Substitute, & Energy Ball.
Arceus: Ability: Multitype. No item. Moves: Judgement, Recover, Hyper Beam, & Perish Song.
Victini: Ability: Victory Star. No item. Moves: Incinerate, Quick Attack, Endure, & Confusion.
Keldeo: Ability: Justified. Item: PP Max. Moves: Aqua Jet, Leer, Double Kick, & Bubble Beam.
Genesect: Ability: Download. No item. Moves: Techno Blast, Magnet Bomb, Solar Beam, & Signal Beam.
Meloetta: Ability: Serene Grace. Item: PP Max. Moves: Quick Attack, Confusion, Round.

... Okay, can I meet whoever made these decisions and SLAP THE STUPID OUT of them?! I could criticize them in detail, but I can sum it all up in two:

1. Why are only some of them holding items? Like if you can't think of a good item to give them how about just one of the rare berries? Actually scratch that, give them all rare berries. Like they have the Micle and Enigma Berry, how about the Rowap, Jaboca, and Custap (heck, you could even have some holding a Starf and Lansat since they're hard to get).
2. Okay, you don't want to give them any special moves, that's fine. But still what in the world are with those movesets? Some don't have a full 4, others are moves they first learn, except others have moves from all over their movepool, Victini doesn't have V-Create, and Shaymin has Aromatherapy which it doesn't learn!

They're trolling us, obviously.

Shaymin does learn Aromatherapy btw.

Shaymin does learn Aromatherapy btw.

Odd, I could have sworn it wasn't listed (though I did find it odd if it didn't have it).

Looking through past events it looks like they just took an old distribution of that Pokemon and re-used it. But I can see just as many they could have chosen instead, or ones they just needed to make slight adjustments to.

1. Yeah, all event Pokémon should hold something, even if it is a Berry.
2. Yeah, that's really weird. They should all have four moves, even if it is just the last four moves they learn like wild Pokémon. And there is no excuse for Victini not to have V-create.

I think the reason some are holding items and others are not is that they're holding the items they held during their first event. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes for some, no to others. Jirachi should be holding a Salac or Ganlon Berry, Shaymin a Micle Berry, and Arceus a Rowap Berry. Also their moves (and levels) don't quite match for some Events either. That still doesn't make it any less dumb though. This is on the same level of the ORAS remake basing most of itself on Ruby & Sapphire while ignoring the improvements of Emerald because it came later. Yes, they're sorta based on the original event that gave them out, but that doesn't mean they were good Events (especially when that means Victini doesn't have V-Create).
