Event Discussion

Well, Raikou and Entei have begun their serial code distributions... in Latin America. (Microplay in Chile, Masgamers in Peru) I guess the rest of the world will get their methods/locations soon.

It has now been confirmed that it will be distributed over the Nintendo Network in Europe from tomorrow until April 25th while the United States will receive it in Target from April 22nd through April 29th with Canada getting it in the Pokémon Trainer Club Newsletter.

... As a Canadian, I really dislike the news that we have to go through the Trainer Club newsletter, especially as I never received my Heatran code in March despite being sure I clicked the box saying to go ahead and send me email well before the cutoff date. I guess I'll just have to ask the wi-fi SQSR thread for a Raikou code... or trade for a decent Raikou.
In addition, Raikou and Entei will be distributed via code in Target from April 22-29. Surprised that it’s only a week long. I’ll probably still get them for completion sake.

Also rip Canada. I didn't receive my regigigas code even though I'm sure I clicked the email-open box. I'm surprised they're doing another newsletter distro.

I'm left wondering if the newsletter codes are supposed to be distributed around that same time. This "Year of the Legendary Pokemon" is turning out to have legendarily shaky distribution so far.

I'm really interested that the UK is getting off so easy by not just having a longer time period to get them, but by just making it another wireless event. Kiiiinda sucks for everyone else though, but to mirror something DHR said on the discord it seems like GAME's going downhill and isn't able to afford running these events anymore.

Entei and Raikou video is up:

Thoughts Before Watching Video:
Okay, this should be an easy one for them to do! The Legendary Beasts have so much lore but also mystery behind them. Maybe they can discuss how they decided which animals they combined to make each one or what Pokemon they possibly were before they were transformed (even if they don't give a straight answer they could just joke around, it'll be something at least).

Thoughts After Watching Video:
"DUR, Entei can use Sacred Fire! It has high Attack stat"
"DURRR, Raikou is fast, you can use it to set up reflect!"
"DUUUUURRRRRRRRRR..."
Like, at least for Entei they had potential for an interesting topic, bringing up Entei can learn Sacred Fire, maybe talk about why they decided to give Entei that special treatment. But, really, you couldn't think of anything interesting about Raikou besides it was fast (and the status move you decided to showcase, or only showcase, was Reflect. If you were going to only mention one Thunder Wave probably would have been a better choice, of mention others like it also learning Light Screen or an interesting like a niche Quash user)?
*Sigh*

Only a week and at Target? Alright, there's one next to the mall I usually go to for my GameStop events, though still seems odd. Guessing this is because Toys R Us closed? Guess Target isn't that bad of a replacement choice, probably more of them around than Toys R Us. Guess we'll see how they are with giving out the serial code cards... why do I have a feeling this isn't going to work out well... you'd think maybe this would be a sign to GF/Pokemon Company to just stick with either Wifi downloads or GameStop/GAME/whatever popular game store a country has.

That's especially pointless with Raikou because Tornadus and Thundurus have Prankster, guaranteeing that they can set certain status moves before their opponent. (like Tornadus ensuring the winds blow in its team's favor with Tailwind)

Then again, they'll probably just point out they can change forme with the Reveal Glass... Man, it really seems like after Dialga and Palkia they just stopped caring about delving into anything deeper than the glaringly obvious. I'm not holding out any hope for the video about Xerneas and Yveltal next month.

Uh oh not a Target code again. The people there, unlike GameStop’s workers, aren’t really that knowledgeable for the most part about these video game distributions. When I went to get Bullseye Charizard, I spent about 10 minutes convincing customer service that, no, I am not asking for an amiibo, just a code card. I then went to the electronics section in desperate hope, only for them to say that they had heard of no such thing. I literally walk around the corner to the video games and right there is a promo poster advertising the distribution. After a lot of searching, the person finally found the cards in an unopened, untouched box. Still no newsletter either :/

Do they think their fans are this unaware? Or is the vid just targeted toward kids?

I've asked a few of my online friends; none of them have gotten the newsletter either. Sadly, it's likely most of us won't receive one.

Guys, it's a 1-minute video targeted towards kids giving them cool tips on how to use these super rare pokemon they just got for free. It's a little annoying after the first video gave us a little bit of interesting info, but there are really worse things in the world than letting an 8 year old know that their new Pokémon can learn an awesome move like Sacred Fire.

So, is there anything special about these Event Mons, or are they literally just two less Legendaries for us to catch? Even though it's been seven years, I'm still (fruitlessly, mind you) holding out for GameFreak to finally realise that Nature locking those Master of Illusion Legendary Beasts back in BW1 was a ridiculous mistake. If they're not even willing to do a redistribution, then at least add the moves to their freaking learn sets or something.

Oh, great, so my concerns are valid. I was thinking "who do I ask for the codes? Would I be wandering the store looking for staff to see if any one of them understands what I'm talking about?".

And you know what, had the Dialga and Palkia video just been like that, talking about their Signature moves, I wouldn't be complaining now. I would go "Okay, these vids are just to make you aware of the promotion and get the kiddies excited to use these Pokemon, whatever". But no, instead they started with a story of how they developed the two, turning off the office lights and sitting under their desk, acting like primitive people sharing legends to one another (then the second segment was them talking about how cool their Signature moves were). It was an interesting segment which didn't feel like it was meant for any age group but a sneak peak into their development style that any Pokemon would get a kick out of. If anything, I'd imagine kids wouldn't be that interested in that segment because they don't care about the development process, they just want to see cool gameplay which is what the second part gave them. However had they done that format, first part being a sneak peak into development than second part just general info about the two, fine. Something for every fan than something to hook in the kids.

If the next vid is also just as generic I'll drop the complaints and take the Dialga and Palkia story as an appreciated fluke.

Nothing special other than being in Cherish Balls. You're just getting an opportunity at a freebie of the other version's legendary from the Ultra Warp Ride in the set. (which for some, like in the current distribution's case, allows the player to have both so they can find the third of the trio. In this case, Suicune) They don't even get their Hidden Abilities. The only one that is somewhat special is Zygarde in June, as it's shiny. (and so far the only way for Zygarde to be shiny)

Kids only, Gamefreak is gravely concerned that the franchise's main customers are 20 something adults instead of kids, they want kids money not smelly otaku money thus recent efforts like the app targeted towards pre schoolers

it's not like the whole nostalgia trip of gen VI and VII increased sales that much, people that are into Pokemon for nostalgia will only get the VGC releases of gen I and never ever touch anything they didn't play as children (except maybe a remake, but then again only a remake of the first games)

Kids first and foremost; the others will follow along or just like complaining on the internet about franchises they don't play

Honestly, the pokemon company has been doing so well lately that I don't think they would want to risk targeting all their marketing toward their actual primary audience (not kids).

No, Pokemon's primary target are kids. It always has been and probably always will. It's why the main game is so easy (they may get bored and quit if they get stuck), no way to change the difficulty (because they want to make sure the kids can beat the game), there's no way to bypass tutorials (they don't want the kids missing any important information), and why post game nowadays feels kind of empty (most likely only their older audience will continue playing after the main game so why bother filling the post game with lots of stuff to do; just put in enough to feel like there's post game stuff to do).

That last one is particularly a problem because this means they don't want to put effort into expanding the Battle Facility which I feel they can do quite easily by adding in some additional modes. Not asking for the Battle Frontier (though that would be nice), but how about including a mode for Rentals, Little Cup, and Inverse Battles? And I'm sure there were some Battle Facilities gimmicks you could also easily implement (and maybe some from Battle Revolution's Colosseums). But no, that would need additional work aside base minimum (and whatever cosmetic they want to add to it, which includes notable characters).

For sure their primary TARGET is kids, and yes, it probably always will be. I'm just trying to say that they are avoiding implementing features that are more inclined toward their older audience, which is sizable as well. This causes, like you said, the main game to be easy and the postgame to be dull (although I rarely play ingame, but I try to complete them at least once to try them). I believe this is also why less legends are found through cave-exploring, etc. than easy-to-access wormholes.

I'll feel very sorry for any region that has to receive it's shiny Zygarde through newsletter.

Zeraora has officially be unveiled. It'll be featured in the new movie this summer.

You can view the new trailer here.

Also, I had no idea where to put this.

At this rate, those living in North America will probably get Zeraora sometime in October 2018, as that's what happened with marshadow with the movie coming out in July. Just a speculation, but it would make sense imo, especially since we got volcanion a year before marshadow (although iirc volcanion's movie didn't come out in july, so this is why it's hard to confirm). Movie looks great tho!

There's no distribution announced for Zeraora yet, but we do know that pre-ordering the movie ticket will get you a Lugia for the movie. IIRC Marshadow was distributed as a local wireless gift at the cinema, so maybe they'll do the same with Zeraora.

Has anyone else attempted to email the company about not getting their Heatran/Regi codes (I'm still somewhat determined to get mine)? I emailed them on the 1st, and they still haven't gotten back to me even though they say they "strive to get back to you in 48 hours." Not complaining, but according to serebii the codes expire sometime in mid-june so if they're still trying to get some out I hope they do so by then, but even that's pretty unlikely. Also, Zeraora hype.
