Pokemon Name: Cobracotta
Typing:
spring.png

Abilities: Blossom | Strategic Retreat (HA)
Stats: 85 / 100 / 110 / 85 / 90 / 60 | 530 BST
Notable Moves:
*Flower Fang:
spring.png
| 75 BP | Physical | 100% Acc. | 15-24 PP | 30% Poison chance. 25% HP Drain. If the target is already Poisoned, 50% HP Drain.
Physical: Spring Dance, Spring Forward, Stone Wall, Stone Hammer, Headlock,
Special: Blossom Out, Tragic Flower, Draining Roots, Earthquake,
Status: Cherry Blossom, Floral Breeze, Rose Field, Rubbles, Terraform, Sunbathe,
Flavor Moves: Daisy Chain, Growth Power, Aftershock, Boulder, Iron Bash, Lurker Lash, Gloom Fangs, Jumpscare, Peekaboo, Rainy Season, Soil, Earth Bump, Petrify, Sunflower Field, Decoy,
Weight (kg): 87.3 kg
Description: Based on a flower pot, as well as cobras used by snake charmers. The first stage (Oviper) is mono-Spring, and it hides in an eggshell instead of a pot. The middle evolution (Storattler) is stuck in a lump of red clay, and gains the Earth type. Then, using the power of pokemon evolution, the clay is transformed into a beautiful pot!

This pokemon has a solid defensive typing and a great movepool. It essentially has Spikes (Rubbles), Recover (Cherry Blossom), Wish (Floral Breeze) and Bulk Up (Sunbathe). It's STAB options provide a lot of support as well: Blossom Out is a pivoting move, Stone Wall raises your Def, and Tragic Flower + Blossom provides a wallbreaking nuke if you poison your opponents. Strategic Retreat can help you pass Floral Breeze to a teammate (Blossom Out helps too).

Pokemon Name: Soleron
Typing:

Abilities: Shine | Storm Watch (HA)
Stats: 75 / 85 / 85 / 110 / 105 / 70 | 530 BST
Notable Moves:
Monsoon:
sea.png
| 110 BP | Special | 70% Acc. | 5-8 PP | 100% accurate in Rain. 30% chance to set the weather to Rain.
Physical: Firecracker, Bright Ascent, Item Jack,
Special: Solar Flare, Heat Stroke, Mighty Gale, Headwind, Thunderclap, Cloud Call, Wash Away,
Status: Sun Kiss, Beach Day, Uproot, Supercharge,
Flavor Moves: Swelter, Luau Leap, Sunstroke, Banana Split, Thunder Cloud, Dive Bomb, Sky Split, Squall, Swoop, Gentle Breeze, Zephyr, Purifying Flame, Holy Water, Cataclysm, Hit, Season's End, Refreshing Breeze, Sunbathe, Tailwind, Balance Out, Enlighten, Hot Shower, Rice Field, High Noon, Rainy Season, Get Serious,
Weight (kg): 22.1 kg
Description: An evolution line based on waterfowl (goose chick -> goose -> heron) that gain more wings as they evolve. Opening or closing their wings affects the weather: Soleron could cause a calamity if it fell asleep with all six wings open or closed. It reflects the wet season, which is the form that summer takes in the tropics. The weather can shift quickly from intense heat to intense thunderstorms (monsoon season is during the summer months). Seraphim angels were a big influence on the design.

Summer/Sky with Storm Watch is actually good defensively. It can set up with Supercharge (+1 SpA, +1 Spe), and attack with its great Summer/Sky/Sea coverage. It also makes good use of the Emblematic Scarf item, because it can run Beach Day (Recover), and Sun Kiss (inflicts Sunburn), with Shine further boosting its Summer moves. It also gets Solar Flare (Overheat) for a strong revenge killing move. Finally, it has Uproot (Defog) for support and Headwind as a pivoting move.

Abilities: Decay | Fluffy Float (HA)
Stats: 100 / 75 / 100 / 85 / 100 / 75 | 535 BST
Notable Moves:
Energy Siphon:
autumn.png
| 50 BP | Special | 100% Acc. | 10-16 PP | Damages foe (1/8) for 3 turns as long as they remain on the field. 50% Life Drain on both the direct and indirect damage. | Contact
Physical: Leaves Down, Toxic Tentacles, Item Jack,
Special: Shroom Fumes, Fall Back, Draining Roots, Narcotic Pulse, Purification,
Status: Wilt, Shroom Spores, Withering Breeze, Relax, Decoy, Tantalize, Blind Steal, Cotton Field, Toxic Cloud,
Flavor Moves: Horde, Dormant Power, Patient Pound, Lingering Spirit, Swoop, Gentle Breeze, Zephyr, Beach Ball, Kancho, Hit, Season's Greetings, Spore Burst, Pumpkin Field, Soil, Balance Out, Hibernate,
Weight (kg): 50.7 kg
Description: It floats in the air on hollow, helium-filled mushrooms. It uses its tendrils to gather the detritus that it carries on its back, which it slowly turns to into soil. They are basically the role of detritivores in an ecosystem, scaled up to magical levels. Though they are mostly docile, when threatened they can drain their foe's life force, leaving them unconscious or dead.

A bulky wincon and wall. You have Relax (Calm Mind) and Decoy (Substitute), which should be very dangerous on a bulky pokemon with the Decay ability; after one attack you suddenly hit like you have base 136 SpA. You also have support moves in Fall Back, Blind Steal, Tantalize, Item Jack, Balance Out, and Cotton Field. Fluffy Float turns you into a turbo wall with +1 Def and Spe, making it an option with Cotton Field. Your healing options are a little odd, but between your own boosts and Wilt's debuffs, I think it can make do.

Pokemon Name: Rantler
Typing:
winter.png

Abilities: Linger | Nocturnal (HA)
Stats: 75 / 110 / 80 / 85 / 70 / 110 | 530 BST
Notable Moves:
*Sneeze:
storm.png
| 40 BP | Special | 100% Acc. | 24-32 PP | Transfers a layer of Rubbles to the opponent's side, but doesn't set new ones. Clears away fields.
Physical: Snow Kick, Frostbite, Reindeer Dash, Creep Claw, Conifer Crash, Rampage,
Special: Arctic Blast, Frost Blast, Winter Gale, Jumpscare, Ghostly Howl, North Wind,
Status: Cold Stare, Strength Up, Borealis, Prickly Bush
Flavor Moves: Flake Rake, Freeze Over, Snowball, Polar Night, Blizzard, Gloom Fangs, Kancho, Gentle Breeze, Bramble Whip, Rabid Maw, Hit, Cut, Season's Greetings, Snowfall, Evergreen, Chilling Breeze, Hibernate, Take Cover, Get Serious,
Weight (kg): 157 kg
Description: Based on the mythical Jackalope, a fusion between a jackrabbit and an antelope. Bunnub has little antler nubs, Hollorn has ilex horns, and Rantler has reindeer antlers. Rantler is a very misunderstood pokemon: unlike its prevos, it actually has a friendly disposition most of the time, but it's so prone to allergies (espeically during Spring) that it's sneezes are often mistaken for terrifying snarls.

A sweeper that uses Linger and Strength Up to sweep with powerful WInter-type priority. Creep Claw hits Serenity types and Rampage hits Spring types if you can afford to lock into it. Chill boosts Frostbite x2 so you can also run more support-oriented sets based around that and Sneeze.

Technically, it can also run Slipstream set, but it is a bit too fragile it might not be able to abuse its setup. Therefore, probably run Nocturnal for a bit more survivability maybe?

Butterfly: right?
Competitive: An unstable storm. It is able to be both offensive and defensive, it is just that its typing be leaning to offensive. Unstabody making it have like 125 stats across the board, and varieties of speed tier, but realistically, it's jack of all trades, but master of none. Its set might be something likes Tempest/Solidify/Snow Shuriken/Blizzard at best.
Pretty sure some of these are problematic to someone, just tell me about that, I always open for suggestions.

Pokemon Name: Tanucoon
Typing: Autumn / Folklore
Abilities: Mischievous* / Lesspell

Tanucoon is a fast, frail Pokemon with the ability Mischievous that allows it to mess with opponents using its status moves like Eerie Spell, Wilt, Hitodama, and Blind Steal. Its typing gives it 4 weaknesses to Winter, Sea, Night, and Folklore, 3 resistances to Summer, Earth, and Serenity, and 1 immunity to Manmade.

Flavor Moves: Gloom Fangs, Sly Slash, Speeding Star, Underhanded Blow, Lunacy, Dawn Eve, Flake Rake
Weight (kg): 15
Description: Tuskling is based on the tufted deer, which has two long canines reminiscent of a sabertooth tiger. Tuskling is too young to hunt on its own, being completely reliant on its parents and pack for care. Its small fangs are very sharp, but it doesn't know how to properly use them yet. They practice stalking and pouncing on their siblings for when they grow up.

Only the pair of Saberdeer with the largest fangs and antlers are allowed to lead packs, and they compete with one another to determine whose weapons are largest. Saberdeer attack with cold brutality, aiming for the target's weak spots.

Saberdeer has high attack with access to Razor Fangs-boosted Frostbite, which becomes very powerful when the opponent has been Chilled with Cold Stare. Winter / Night is weak to Spring and Winter, doubly weak to Summer, and has 3 resistances to Autumn, Night, and Folklore.

Flavor: A giant mushroom with a cap resembling a heap of gelatin. Suspended in the gelatin is several eye-like objects. While Morelatin does use them to see, they act as spores and can be launched out of its body to reproduce.
Competitive: Magic Bounce!!!!!! While Morelatin's typing and bulk is pretty underwhelming, it makes up for this with a Magic Bounce clone, letting it control the hazard game alongside Uproot. It also has several utility options and a fairly high Special Attack, reducing its passivity.

Flavor: Powerful, shell-clad boars that are birthed from Palmpig's seeds. When they die, their bodies serve as seeds for new Palmpig, continuing its lifecycle.

Competitive: Unaware Wall with hands. Summer/Earth is a decent enough defensive typing, but Ignorance gives it an advangtage against setup sweepers, along with negating the negative effects of Solar Flare and Terraform. Since Haze doesn't exists, it stops setup sweepers using Wash Away. Aside from defenses, Boarconut has very high offensive stats.

| Physical | BP: 60 | Acc: 90 | PP: 16 | Hits three times with three accuracy checks. This moves BP decreases by 20 every time it lands.

Flavor: A tree-dwelling dragon that resembles a caterpillar, its scales resembling wood and frills resemblings maple leaves. They are easily infuriated, and if their tree is disturbed, they will emerge and immediately attack. Their movement is similar to that of a caterpillar though, so they are pretty slow, making their attacks unsuccesful most of the time.

Competitive: Woah, it's Slowbro. Pretty mid defensive typing, but makes up with its large ass physbulk and Regen, which also syngergises well with Dormant Power (FSight) + Fall Back (Flip Turn). Real men run Blind Rage physical. Also I refuse to put Harvestation and Harvestify on anything >:(

Flavor: A white shoebill stork with colorful swirling feathers and a cone-shaped beak. Despite their icy temperature, they reside near the coasts and are rumored to help those who are suffering from heat strokes. Every winter they migrate back to the arctic in order to restore their energy.
Competitive: Fast utility. Can easily Sunburn its opponents with Purifying Flame and Sun Kiss and deal tons of damage thanks to Tropical Spirit (unfortune negative matchup against Morelatin tho). Aside from statusing, Sherbill comes with hazards, hazard removal, recovery, and pivoting.
ice cream stork
Fast Utility

Basically a bunch of tools to start off some key archetypes. Morelatin, Wyrmaple, and Boarconut are great stall utilities and wallbreakers. Wyrmaple and Sherbill are slow and fast pivots (respectfully). Sherbill provides hazards, Morelatin provides hazard removal. All are versatile mons to start off the meta.

and they all have three abilities cuz uhhhhh they get them you evolve them holding uhhhhh season stone and the prevos can get them through breeding. yeah.

Lot of people aren't finished, I'll apologize that I didn't really make important notice of this - we're voting for peoples' groups of subs, and since most people have been doing four starters to match four seasons, I'm tagging you if you don't have one of each. You do not need all four if you want there to be fewer starters, but if you only have one starter, you may not get many votes for that reason. I'm gonna give 72 hours until the deadline. Tagging Mercupty HydrogenHydreigon Bug Maniac Aydon Pinhead Low-Key Spook Cratersmash Double Iron Bash to make sure you're out of WIP by that 72 hours.

Might sub this time actually, we'll see. Leaving this post unedited for now though.

EDIT: I lied about leaving this unedited lmao, Emblematic Scarf was nerfed. You might want to check that out if that was important to your subs!

Description:
Physical Tank. With decent defensive stats, and an incredibly strong defensive type, Pavronin can certainly take a hit. With a strong attack, decent coverage, and boosting options, Pavronin certainly has what is necessary to act as a wallbreaker too. It's signature move, Dancing Blades, provides a stronger Serenity Physical attack for the mon, allowing it to reach some higher power thresholds, with the main drawback of the move being a bit unreliable.
Flavor:
Dex 1: “Pavronin’s beautiful tail feathers serve as a symbol of its prestige. It is said that in late March these feathers briefly turn pink, resembling cherry blossoms.”
Dex 2: “Pavronin is believed to roam the land seeking worthy opponents. It is famous for its intricate dance of blades, utilizing its many sharp tail feathers as weapons.”

Max PP: 5 [Max 8]
Accuracy: 70%
Effect(s): 30% chance to inflict Fear
Effect Chance: 30%
Attributes: Protect, Mirror
Weight (kg): 21.9 kg
Description:
  • Strong revenge killer and fast Tantalize user.
  • All-Seeing Eye can be abused with Jittering Glare, Demonic Fury and Sky Split (at the cost of making it even frailer).
  • Withering Breeze gives it some utility in Emblematic Scarf pivot sets.
  • Can run mixed, physical or special sets.
    • Special side has higher base stat, higher power STABs, a set-up move and more coverage options (Earth and Spring).
    • Physical side has lower base stat, lower power STABs, but has Folklore coverage (important against Serenity-types) and anti-weather utility in Sky Split.
  • Drawbacks are poor defensive typing and bulk, making it struggle to switch in. Also vulnerable to priority.
Flavor: Based on Native Brazilian folklore, specifically the origin story of the guarana fruit. The thunder god (reasoning for Storm-type) blessed a couple with a child. The child was then killed and his parents mourned. The thunder god told them to plant the child's eyes (reasoning for Autumn-type), and from there grew a plant with fruits that look like eyes. The fruit is a strong stimulant (reasoning for Storm-type again).
Dex 1: "Guareye uses its stimulant effect to torment foes. The more stimulant used, the more its attacks cause anxiety and restlessness."
Dex 2: "Guareye's arms are in fact a bundle of vines, and its hands are fruit shells. Its hands can crush tree trunks."

Special: Swelter, Lurker Lash, Mononoke Dance, Terrain Strain, Inhuman Shriek, Season's End
Status: Arid Absorption, Brazen Bash, Sun Kiss, Hypnotize, Decoy, Eerie Spell, Blind Steal
Flavor Moves: Gold Rush, Close Encounter, Ghostly Howl, High Noon, Refreshing Breeze, Season's Greetings, Hit, Universe Fate, Banana Split, Cricket's Tune, Moon Beam, Peekaboo, Nightmare, Hitodama, Geothermal Arm, Bramble Whip
Move Name: Natural Disarm
Category:

Type:

Base Power: 70
Max PP: 10 [Max 16]
Accuracy: --%
Effect(s): Removes foe's item. Fails against Folklore-types.
Effect Chance: 100%
Attributes: Protect, Mirror, Contact
Weight (kg): 81.9 kg
Description:
  • Defensive pivot with offensive utility in Brazen Brash, Sun Kiss and Lurker Lash, and defensive utility in Natural Disarm and Eerie Spell.
  • Dedicated Night counter. Double-resists the type, and inverts Lurker Lash and Sly Slash stat drops.
  • Naturally immune to Pumpkin Field and Sunflower Field chip damage, allowing it to switch freely when they're up.
  • Terrain Strain allows it to avoid being passive even when fully invested in defenses.
  • Contrary + Mononoke Dance + Turf Control combined make it a gimmicky defensive breaker (gimmicky because Mononoke Dance locks user for 3 turns, is non-STAB and goes off of 75 SpA). Folklore-type is also horrible coverage for Night-types.
  • Drawbacks are mediocre defensive typing (weaknesses to Winter and Storm), lack of strong recovery (only 33% recovery usually) and a mediocre speed tier. Also, for bulky offense sets, its strongest Summer-type move is a recoil move, which can be annoying.
Flavor:
Based on Brazilian folklore, the Curupira, a humanoid creature and protector of the forests. It has fiery red hair (reasoning for Summer-type) and backwards feet (reasoning for Contrary). Curupira preys on hunters and poachers, creates illusions, and uses its backward feet to mislead his targets and make them lost (reasoning for Night-type).
Natural Disarm fails on Folklore-types because they are supernatural.
Dex 1: "Curuprowl are usually not territorial, but when they sense problems, they protect their land and even other Pokemon."
Dex 2: "The patterns on its body are actually curved in. When its hair isn't glowing red, the patterns serve as camouflage."

Attributes: Protect, Mirror
Flavor Moves: Rapid Fire, Snowball, Snowfall, Boulder, Earth Bump, Kancho, Peekaboo, Hypnotize
Weight (kg): 992.8 lbs (450.3 kg)
Description: Offensive pivot. Storm Watch, Fell Rupture, and a strong speed stat gives Mountunn plenty of tools that allow it to pivot both in and out. Might be able to do something with its Cold Stare or Uproot too, so those are included under potentially notable moves.
Flavor:
Dex 1: "Mountunn's massive frame gives the false belief that Mountunn are slow and hulking. Most are surprised to discover Mountunn are actually incredibly nimble."

FINALLY
I am done. Here's my starters! Like recent starters, these starters have a theme, that theme being Japanese culture. Each starter represents a different facet of Japan. In addition, the final stage of each starter has their own signature move to facilitate their own unique playstyles.

Meowhou
Typing:

Abilities: Blossom | Celestial
Stats: 64 HP / 40 Atk / 40 Def / 50 SpA / 50 SpD / 66 Spe / 310 BST
Weight (kg): 10.4

Notable Moves:
Item Jack, Sakura Strike
Blossom Out, Daisy Chain
Balance Out, Cherry Blossom, Floral Breeze, Rainy Season, Rose Field, Rubbles, Soothing Tune, Tantalize

Flavor Moves:
Hit, Season's Greetings, Spring Dance, Sprout Smack
Dew Shower, Lucky Star
Energy Field, Mind Shield

Description: smol cat
"A rare sight, it's said to only serve those with strong aspirations and the will to fulfill them. The scent of cherry blossoms follows it."

Etymology: "Meow" + " Mahou"
Pronounced: "Mee-yow-hoh"

Mahou is the Japanese word for magic or witchcraft.

The Spring starters are inspired by mahō shōjo (magical girl) media. Meowhou is meant to resemble the "cute critter" often seen in a lot of Japanese media. It takes heavy inspiration from Luna of Sailor Moon, Kero from Cardcaptor Sakura, Happy from Fairy Tail, Blair's true form in Soul Eater, and unironically Kyubey from Madoka Magica. The ear tufts were inspired by lynxes.

Magikat
Typing:

Abilities: Blossom | Celestial
Stats: 76 HP / 60 Atk / 60 Def / 70 SpA / 70 SpD / 84 Spe / 420 BST
Weight (kg): 21.4

Notable Moves:
Item Jack, Lunacy, Moon Blade, Sakura Strike
Blossom Out, Daisy Chain
Balance Out, Blind Steal, Cherry Blossom, Floral Breeze, Hazy Moon, Rainy Season, Rose Field, Rubbles, Soothing Tune, Tantalize

Flavor Moves:
Hit, Season's Greetings, Spring Dance, Sprout Smack
Dew Shower, Gentle Breeze, Headwind, Lucky Star, Moon Beam, Refreshing Breeze, Season Change, Zephyr
Energy Field, Mind Shield

Description: bratty cat
"It prefers to avoid social contact at all costs. If someone happens to be a bother around it, it will not hesitate to blast them with a ray of light."

Etymology: "Magic" + " Cat"
Pronounced: "Mah-jeh-kaht"

The name is very literally a portmanteau of magic and cat, though it's also meant to sound like the word magical.

Magikat takes elements from certain subsets of the gyaru subculture (namely its multi-colored ear tuffs which resemble twintails), and its abrasive demeanor is meant to contrast with the other members of its family.

Nyakura
Typing:

  • Lacks coverage and has average physical bulk.
"An intense, almost magical power flows through its body. It conjures all sorts of energy blasts and showers of light to dazzle and overwhelm its foes."

Etymology: "Nya" + "Sakura"
Pronounced: "Nee-yah-koo-rah"

Nya is the Japanese onomotapaia for a cat’s meow, while sakura is the name for Japanese cherry blossom.

The final Spring starter, Nyakura fully embodies its mahō shōjo inspirations, largely taking inspiration from Usagi of Sailor Moon. Its forked tail is a reference to nekomata, powerful yōkai cats that are said to have an array of terrifying magical powers.

Flamiin
Typing:

Abilities: Shine | Courageous
Stats: 50 HP / 63 Atk / 40 Def / 62 SpA / 45 SpD / 50 Spe / 310 BST
Weight (kg): 5.9

Notable Moves:
Firecracker
Crackling Mountain, Heat Stroke, Solar Flare, Summer Daze
Decoy, High Noon, Solar Boost, Sunbathe

Flavor Moves:
Boulder, Cut, Hit, Season's Greetings, Summer Sword
Cricket's Tune, Purifying Flame, Sunstroke
Earth Bump, Enrage, Get Serious, Refreshing Breeze, Take Cover

Description: smol cicada
"It nests within hollow trees, emerging when its tree trunk becomes warm from the hot sun. Though it has wings, it's a clumsy flier."
"It uses its claws to dig up food such as roots and to dig into trees. Its high-pitched, cacophonous cry is a sign that summer has arrived."

Etymology: "Flame" + "Miin miin"
Pronounced: "Flay-meen"

Miin miin is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cicada's cry.

The Summer starters are inspired by tokusatsu media, live-action films and shows that feature special effects. Flamiin here is a cicada. Several species of cicadas are well-known in Japan, with Hyalessa maculaticollis being famous for its loud cries during the summer. The crest on its head is meant to resemble the crest of a typical tokusatsu costume.

Burskada
Typing:

Abilities: Shine | Courageous
Stats: 60 HP / 92 Atk / 70 Def / 73 SpA / 55 SpD / 70 Spe / 420 BST
Weight (kg): 19.0

Notable Moves:
Firecracker, Squall
Crackling Mountain, Heat Stroke, Solar Flare, Summer Daze
Decoy, High Noon, Solar Boost, Sunbathe

Flavor Moves:
Boulder, Cut, Hit, Iron Bash, Reckless Tackle, Season's Greetings, Summer Sword
Cricket's Tune, Purifying Flame, Season Change, Serene Shot, Sunstroke
Earth Bump, Enrage, Get Serious, Refreshing Breeze, Take Cover

Description: generic anime protag
"With a strong sense of justice and a kind heart, Burskada is always ready to defend the innocent. Though, it sometimes overestimates its strength."
"It obtains nearly all of its energy from the sun. If it's pushed to fight without obtaining enough sunlight, it will falter."

Etymology: "Burst" + "Cicada"
Pronounced: "Burss-kay-dah"

Burst is very literally burst, as in an explosion or a sudden flash of heat.

Burskada is heavily inspired by tokusatsu superhero TV shows, specifically Kamen Rider and Ultraman. Its reliance on the sun for power is loosely inspired by the Ultramen's physiology of being mostly light.

Cicaguren
Typing:

Abilities: Shine | Courageous
Stats: 80 HP / 123 Atk / 90 Def / 102 SpA / 65 SpD / 70 Spe / 530 BST
Weight (kg): 96.0

Notable Moves:
Bright Ascent, Drill Piercer, Firecracker, Spiral Flash, Squall, Stone Hammer
Crackling Mountain, Heat Stroke, Mighty Gale, Seiken, Solar Flare, Summer Daze
Decoy, High Noon, Solar Boost, Sunbathe

Spiral Flash
Type:

Category:

Pow: 60
Acc: 100
PP (Max): 16
Contact?: Yes

The user revs up its drills and swiftly strikes the target, even in the face of adversity.

This move has its priority increased by 1 if the user has less than or equal to half of its maximum HP remaining.

Flavor Moves:
Boulder, Cut, Geothermal Arm, Hit, Iron Bash, Reckless Tackle, Season's Greetings, Serene Blade, Summer Sword
Cricket's Tune, Purifying Flame, Season Change, Season's End, Serene Shot, Retribution, Sunstroke, Zephyr
Earth Bump, Enrage, Get Serious, Refreshing Breeze, Take Cover

Description:
  • Mixed set-up sweeper, utilizing Solar Boost for special sweeping and Sunbathe for physical sweeping.
  • Special sets have better coverage and breaking power after a boost.
  • Physical sets are harder to break on the defensive and can have an easier time against fast Pokemon with its access to priority attacks in Squall and its signature move Spiral Flash.
  • Suffers from poor longevity due to Firecracker and Summer Daze’s recoil, in addition to a lack of healing. Poor special bulk dues it no favors.
  • Special sets struggle more early to mid game due to its lower Special Attack, while physical sets must deal with less coverage.
"Its drills are tougher than diamond and can spin up to 350 MPH, generating intense heat in the process. No defense can withstand the might of its drills."
"It will never back down from a fight. If it is losing, it taps into its true power and relentlessly batters the opponent with drills hotter than the sun."

Etymology: "Cicada" + "Guren"
Pronounced: "Sih-kay-goo-rehn"

Guren is a Japanese word that translates literally to “crimson lotus.” However, guren is often abstracted artistically to mean something along the lines of “having an indomitable will in the face of adversity” (as used in the anime Tenga Toppen Gurren Lagann and Attack on Titan's 1st opening song Guren no Yumiya).

Cicaguren is largely inspired by kaiju, being the giant monster to Burskada's superhero. Specifically, Cicaguren takes much of its features from Megalon, a Toei kaiju that has battled Godzilla, and the Baltan, nemeses of the Ultramen. The Baltan evolved from cicada people, and the original Baltan costume has been confirmed to be an altered cicada costume, looping back to Flamiin's origins. The anime Gurren Lagann also inspired some aspects of Cicaguren's design and a good chunk of its flavor.

Withiwog
Typing:

Abilities: Decay | Absorptive
Stats: 50 HP / 55 Atk / 45 Def / 45 SpA / 60 SpD / 55 Spe / 310 BST
Weight (kg): 7.0

Dormant Power, Draining Roots, Growth Power
Stock Crops, Toxic Cloud, Wilt

Flavor Moves:
Harvest, Harvestify, Hit, Horde, Peekaboo, Season's Greetings
Shroom Fumes

Description: smol frog
"Born under fallen leaves, the leaf on its back is held in place by adhesive mucus. This Pokémon is well hidden within autumn foliage."
"It subsists on red leaves and freshly sprouted mushrooms. Its skin is susceptible to drying out, good thing the leaf on its back provides shade."

Etymology: "Wither" + "Polliwog"
Pronounced: "Whih-thih-wohg"

Polliwog is an outdated term for tadpole in American dialects.

The Autumn starters are basically just yōkai, though Withiwog here is a simple tadpole with a leaf on it.

Gegekero
Typing:

Abilities: Decay | Absorptive

Eerie Spell, Hitodama, Stock Crops, Toxic Cloud, Wilt

Flavor Moves:
Harvest, Harvestify, Hit, Horde, Kanchō, Peekaboo, Season's Greetings, Underhanded Blow
Boring Fable, Close Encounter, Jumpscare, Season Change, Shroom Fumes
Earth Bump, Pumpkin Field, Rainy Season, Soil, Spore Burst, Tattle Tale

Description: a slimy fellow
"This mischievous Pokemon often lurks around during the full moon. It’s well known for leaping out of piles of leaves to catch passerby by surprise."
"Coated in a numbing saliva, one lick from its tongue saps away a person’s life force. Its tongue is also very dextrous, seeing plenty of use in its pranks."

Etymology: "GeGeGe" + "Kero"
Pronounced: "Geh-geh-keh-roh"

GeGeGe is a Japanese onomatopoeia for a cackling sound, most well known for being used in the title of GeGeGe no Kitarō, where GeGeGe is meant to be the sound a typical yōkai would make. Kero is a Japanese onomatopoeia for a frog's cry, similar to kroak.

Gegekero is pretty much just an autumn-themed kappa, though the emphasis on its tongue is based on many yōkai having long tongues.

Mononokero
Typing:

Abilities: Decay | Absorptive
Stats: 100 HP / 100 Atk / 75 Def / 70 SpA / 110 SpD / 75 Spe / 530 BST
Weight (kg): 37.6

Notable Moves:
Demonic Fury, Harvestation, Leaves Down, Reap, Soul Eater, Spectre Smash
Dormant Power, Draining Roots, Growth Power, Mononoke Dance
Eerie Spell, Hitodama, Stock Crops, Toxic Cloud, Wilt

Soul Eater
Type:

Category:

Pow: 80
Acc: 100
PP (Max): 16
Contact?: No

The user siphon's the target's very soul using chains of spectral power.

The user recovers 3/4 the HP lost by the target, rounded half up.

Flavor Moves:
Harvest, Harvestify, Hit, Horde, Kanchō, Peekaboo, Season's Greetings, Underhanded Blow
Boring Fable, Close Encounter, Crackling Mountain, Demon Parade, Jumpscare, Season Change, Season's End, Shroom Fumes
Earth Bump, Nightmare, Pumpkin Field, Rainy Season, Soil, Spore Burst, Tattle Tale

Description:
  • Draining move abuser. Absorbtive increases the HP recovered from Harvestation, Draining Roots, Growth Power, and its signature move Soul Eater.
  • Utilizes its great special bulk to check special attackers. Wilt helps facilitate its bulkiness.
  • Can spread status conditions to wear down the opponent with Eerie Spell and Toxic Cloud.
  • Stock Crops not only enhances its bulk, but allows it to act as a pseudo-setup sweeper by powering up its Autumn-type attacks.
  • Immunity to curse makes it tough to wear down.
  • Low Speed and Defense leave it vulnerable to faster Pokemon and physical attackers.
"An enigmatic rogue, it can slip in and out of sight in a blink of an eye. It was once seen as a harbinger of bad omens and disease due to its impish behavior."
"Formerly seen as a sign of misfortune, today it’s seen as a mountain guardian. Farmers construct straw figures in its likeness to wish for bountiful harvests."

Etymology: "Mononoke" + "Kero"
Pronounced: "Moh-noh-noh-kay-roh"

Mononoke is a Japanese word sometimes used to refer to yōkai, though it is traditionally used to describe a malicious spirit capable of powers such as possession or inflicting disease. Kero is a Japanese onomatopoeia for a frog's cry, similar to kroak.

In addition to being inspired by kappa; Mononokero also takes inspiration from tengu, kasa-obake, oni, and scarecrows. The horns on its head were originally meant to be just an oni reference, but they also resulted in an accidental bullfrog pun, so I'm going with that.

Yukit

Freeze Over, Moon Beam, Polar Night, Snowball
Chilling Breeze, Hazy Moon, Mind Shield, Nightmare, Tattle Tale

"It's only active when snow starts to blanket the ground. Though typically elusive, nothing is more tantalizing to it than a plate of freshly-fried tofu."
"Yukit’s paws barely leave a mark in snow and it doesn’t sink in it in the slightest. This makes it well-equipped for running in snowy areas."

Etymology: "Yuki" +"Kit"
Pronounced: "You-kiht"

Yuki is the Japanese word for snow. Kit can refer to a baby fox or a kitsune, kitsune being the Japanese word for fox, both real and supernatural.

Yukit is simply a white fox. Its evolutions are centered around scary Japanese stories and J-Horror films.

Yukinari
Typing:

Freeze Over, Moon Beam, Polar Night, Season Change, Snowball
Chilling Breeze, Hazy Moon, Mind Shield, Nightmare, Tattle Tale

Description: goth fox
"It hides itself in cold, thick mist to avoid detection. Some folktales claim that soft-spoken women who avoid hot baths are actually Yukinari in disguise."
"While its tail is usually warm and plush, it can form sharp icicles along its fur. Even thick steel gets shredded apart when struck by its ice-covered tail."

Etymology: "Yuki" +"Inari"
Pronounced: "You-kee-nahr-ee"

Yuki is the Japanese word for snow. Inari is one of the principle kami of Shinto, kami meaning a powerful spirit or phenomena. Inari has a multitude of depictions, but is generally considered to be the kami of agriculture and prosperity. Foxes are closely associated with Inari, with kitsune often being depicted as messengers of Inari.

Yukinari is a mix between a kitsune and an onryō, specifically the stereotypical onryō as was codified by Sadako Yamamura, with its long black hair. It also evokes the yuki-onna (snow woman) a female spirit made of ice and snow. Its 2nd dex entry is a reference to two Japanese folktales, one where a yuki-onna turned into icicles upon entering a hot bath and one where a kitsune revealed its true form and fled when it attempted to take a hot bath.

Kowaibuki
Typing:

Spine-Chilling Fury
Type:

Category:

Pow: 18
Acc: 100
PP (Max): 16
Contact?: No

The user lashes out with its frost-covered tails, fueled by bitter vengeance.

Hits five times. If the target is chilled, the last three hits will always be critical hits.

Flavor Moves:
Abyssal Slash, Creep Claw, Cut, Flake Rake, Gloom Fangs, Hit, Horde, Kanchō, Lunacy, Moon Blade, Peekaboo, Rapid Fire, Season's Greetings, Sly Slash
Freeze Over, Jumpscare, Moon Beam, Polar Night, Season Change, Season's End, Snowball
Chilling Breeze, Eerie Spell, Hazy Moon, Hitodama, Mind Shield, Nightmare, Tattle Tale

Description:
  • Decently fast, good mixed offenses, and great offensive typing.
  • Abuses perfectly accurate Arctic Blasts with Snowbringer.
  • Abuses Underhanded Blow, Frostbite, Winter Gale, and its signature move Spine-Chilling Fury to prey on chilled opponents.
  • Lack of priority, setup, and its mediocre bulk are its weakpoints.
"If you see a lone figure standing outside during a heavy snowfall or even a blizzard, do not approach. It’s a Kowaibuki waiting for its next victim."
"It hunts on snowy nights, slashing its victims to ribbons with its icy tails. If you find yourself being pursued, you'll be spared if you offer it fried tofu."

Etymology: "Kowai" +"Fubuki"
Pronounced: "Koh-wai-boo-kee"

Kowai and fubuki are simply the Japanese words for scary and blizzard respectively.

Kowaibuki is largely inspired by both kushisake-onna (slit-mouthed woman) and futakuchi-onna (two-mouthed woman), two women yōkai that feature in many spooky tales. It's essentially an amalgamation of several horrifying and often murderous female spirits in Japanese media. Its multiple tales are of course are reference to the idea of kitsune growing an extra tail every 50 or 100 years, indicating its wisdom and power.

You may now vote! If a starter set is technically incomplete then you're free to vote for those as well if you feel it'd be best, but evolutionary families with particularly egregious things missing (like full movepools on one of the Pokemon) will be ignored.

Vote for your three favorite users, first to third, and make sure you don't self-vote unless it's in the third slot!
