Flygon

Flygon isnt gaining much
ill still run the same sets on him
mabie try the claw sharpen sat?
but then hes too slow
so idk
but isnt garchomp better in almost all aspects?
so if hes kept in OU
why bother with flygon

Well if it's Cloyster switching in, then it does "only" 88.5% - 105.3% with Adamant+LO, so Garchomp does have a chance of surv--

wait why would Cloyster switch in on Garchomp again

...isn't this Flygon's thread? Flygon says pay attention to me instead of Garchomp please... ...for once.

...in fact can someone remind me why that was brought up again? :\

I think ScarfGon will still be good in gen v, not as effective as gen iv though. With sazandora and onon under 100 speed, and shandera being out sped. The 100 base speed is not as important as gen iv.

^ 100 speed isnt as important as gen 4. Its more useless than gen 4. Seriously even non scarfed pokemon can outspeed him with scarf in gen 5 and those guys have high powered atatcks(equivalent of 270 total base power), insane(135) base attack etcetera.
However having STAB on the most centralizing move in the whole metagame in whole five generation never scream bad.

...ah.... who are you thinking of, specifically? :0

Not even, Landlos for example outclasses the scarfed set a decent amount, I don't see a reason to use Flygon in OU to be honest the only thing it has over Landlos that really are open to see is STAB-Dragon moves and No weakness to water, those are the only things that show that you might use it in a certain situation but overall I think it's gone in OU during the V Generation.

If Garchomp can't prove himself uber this gen, Flygon won't enjoy it. His only niche is U-Turn, except Sazandora has that now. As someone mentioned, he's the fastest OU dragon, so maybe that'll be his saving grace.

EDIT: sorry, should've clarified, 4TH gen OU. Forgot for a second all of those guys are now (5th) OU again. That really gives flygon an inferiority complex.

Just a being picky here but:
Latios/Latias Base 110 Speed
Garchomp Base 102 Speed
Salamence Base 100 Speed

So there are 3 faster and 1 that ties.Last gen all of these were voted uber.On the bright side he is faster than:

Dragonite Base 80 Speed
Kingdra Base 85 Speed
Altaria Base 80 Speed
Ononokusu Base 97 Speed
Kurimugan Base 48 Speed
Sazandora Base 98 Speed
Kyurem Base 95 Speed

I would note however Dragonite has Multi-Scale to survive an attack and Extremespeed/Aqua Jet,Kingdra is only slower if there is no rain up,and Kurimugan has Sucker Punch.

No comment for Kyurem, one of the underappreciated but extremely powerful pokes that people underestimate?

Kyurem being insanely bulky powerful for an Ice type and able to use SCREENS and carries Ice and Dragon Moves. With defenses, Kyurem CAN SURVIVE 2 HIT KO BY CHOICE BAND SCIZOR TECHNICIAN BULLET PUNCH IF IT HAS TO EVEN WITH STEALTH ROCK, although it does need Reflect Screen Up. Which by the way, Kyurem does learn Reflect and is one of the best users (since it will pretty much always summon out a Steel or a faster physical dragon generally although it will need to watch out for Latis and Sazandora if not behind Light Screen)

591 Technician Bullet Punch vrs. 417 hp/256 Def Kyu and Reflect: 36.45-43.17% (average 39.33% 164 Damage) I was like Whoah!

Flygon will need Scarf to beat Choice Scarf/Dragon Dance Ono and Choice Scarf Flygon is pretty weak when you have Garchomp who could do it but stronger and slightly faster. U-Turn doesn't cut it for me. Sazandora is a better Scarfer because of superior special attacking and mixed stats. Flygon's typing is good but if you're not doing anything with it, it really isn't worth slapping things like Scarf on it and try to outpower dragons which it can't really. Choice Sets seem terrible on Flygon this time around with the Latis back, Garchomp back, better dragons that have near speed but way better attacking power.

The only reason I see to use Flygon is for things like Sub/Roost/Earthquake/Toxic with its awesome defensive resists. Choice Band serves no purpose (Ono has way higher attack and nearly same speed) nor Scarf (again Chomp, Latis, Saz. Kyu, Ono, etc are STILL better Choice Scarfers than Flygon).

Actually,I know all this.If you go to the Kyurem thread, you'll see I'm an avid user and defender of Kyurem.I didn't mention it because I didn't go in depth of how Flygon interacts with his fellow dragons.Flygon will only be able to switch in on a hopeful Focus Blast or HP Fire.I mainly ignored it since I was only talking speed and the only way Kyurem outruns is if Flygon is not scarfed and survives a Frozen World.I agree with the rest though.

I like Flygon but it seems every generation he loses something. In gen 4, he lost his unique typing to a faster, bulkier, and harder hitting dragon. Then this gen, Sazandora took the levitating and U-Turn with superior stats away from him. Also the Ground/Flying Genie has almost the same move pool with better stats with the exception if dragon stab.To top if off, he also lost the distinction of only dragon with a OHKO move to Ono.It wasn't much due to OHKO clause but still.Every little bit counts.

So with the potential ban of Garchomp looming on the horizon, how do things look for good ol' Flygon in the near future?

Landorus still shits all over Flygon. I predict Flygon will get some usage at first now, but then people will realise that Landorus is just so much more reliable and better in this regard. Well, except for maybe a mixed attacker, but then Flygon will get outclassed by a ton of other mixed attackers.

Landorus still has significantly higher SpA, so it would theoretically be superior as a mixed attacker as well. Earth Power / HP Ice / Sludge Wave / Grass Knot, I think it was.

While Landorus has it's brute force, Flygon has the niche of being the only Dragon/Ground now that Chomp is banned and all, Scarf works well but otherwise outclassed by Landorus. Otherwise, I expect Flygon to get some usage now.
