I'm Leaving

Here's where I'm going:

Cape Town, South Africa.

In a few days, I'm leaving the United States to live and work in South Africa for a couple months. Starting October 2nd, I'll be staying with a local South African family until December 11 while doing volunteer work. My work schedule for the stay isn't set in stone yet, but as far as I know I'll be coaching kids' football (soccer) at some of the schools in the area, giving swimming lessons at a local camp, working with a beach restoration team, and working some days at local animal reservations.

I won't be working the whole trip through, though. I'm definitely going to take some time for myself to explore the area and surf the bay. I'll take pictures for sure, and I'll try to put them up somewhere accessible.

So, this is my goodbye thread of sorts. I'll only be gone for two months, and even though I'm pretty sure that the place where I'm staying at will have internet connection, with all the stuff I'll be busy with I doubt "checking Smogon" will be a high priority (even though I do like this place).

"What's up" Max, Clicky Pen, and Gouki, who knew about this already. Also, props or whatever to chaos and everyone else who puts a lot of work into the site. Can't wait to see the new site when it gets up, same for Competitor, blah blah blah etcetera.

Later. :toast:

awesome, a friend of mine is on africa too. he teaches computer science if i remember correctly?

anyway, have fun, see you!

Heh, well I hope you have lots of fun there.

I have a couple of questions though, just to get a nice discussion about what you're doing.

Tell us how this came about, what did you have to do to work towards this trip?

Did you have to get picked for it by an organization or university or such?

Also, were you able to pick those certain jobs that you are going to be doing there, or did they get picked for you? If you got to pick them, why'd you pick those ones eh?

Heh, I'm just curious eh. :]

I thought this was one of those gay "I quit pokemon" threads, but I was pleasently suprised it wasn't.

Have fun. The oceans are so clear....

Volunteering in another country is one of the greatest things you can do for the world :). Have fun, stay safe, be the best coach you can be!

Just so you know, if you find a black man with '!' in his name, his parents were not overly excited when naming him, rather it's a click.
