Keldeo [available from June 23rd to August 31st]

From what I've seen, Keldeo is rather underwhelming outside of the rain due to its relatively shallow movepool. However, with Drizzle support, this thing can pummel through many of the Pokemon Katikiri listed with just Hydro Pump, this includes many Water resists such as Slowbro, Gyarados, and Salamence, who don't exactly have impressive special bulk. IMO, HP Ghost is probably better, as it allows Keldeo to take out a Pokemon who is outright immune to both its STABs in Jellicent, although HP Ice is always helpful for bringing down a Dragonite.

Why HP Ghost and not Dark?

Why HP Ghost and not Dark?

HP Ghost grants coverage against some annoying Pokemon such as Toxicroak, whom Keldeo can break through if weakened ahead of time. It also means that you don't need to worry about Scarf Terrakion grabbing a Justified boost (man would that be a disaster) as you HP Dark the opposing Celebi or something. The fact that Ghost+Fighting grants perfect neutral coverage is just icing on the cake. The extra 1 stat in like Defense or whatever it was doesn't make much of a difference.

I personally think HP Ice is the most effective. Jellicent is pretty much the only reason you'd run HP Ghost/Dark, and Jellicent sucks anyways. On the other hand, HP Ice nails Dragonite, probably a 10x threat than Jellicent will ever be, as well as Salamence. It also means you can kill Roserade more easily as well.

The Substitute set is effective outside of rain because Scald with 129 Special Attack, you can invest maximum EVs into HP and rely soley on its STAB attacks and Calm Mind to abuse its bulk. It just needs that little support Latias sometimes requires in order to get the best out of it; it's worth it.

I don't prefer Keldeo to Genosect just yet because I still think Download is much more beneficial to a Pokemon who has just one weakness and can be as durable and called upon more often.

I think if you're going choiced with Keldeo, Specs is the way to go. Specs+Rain boosted Hydro Pumps kills shit. Basically Banded Terrakion's CC+50% from rain

Yeah but with rain and SR up you ohko both with Hydro Pump, while still being able to 2hko Jellicent.

Also for Celebi who is another threat to rain teams
HP Ghost hits Celebi for exactly the same amount of damage.

Actually, I disagree with Shrang. HP Ghost versus Tyranitar is irrelevant, as Keldeo can just hammer it with STAB moves. Hell, Tyranitar shouldn't even be switching into Keldeo. Sure, Salamence and Dragonite are threats, but after a boost or two (Stealth Rock support works too), Hydro Pump still does a ton of damage, outdamaging HP Ghost. With HP Ice, you are walled by Jellicent and Tentacruel (and maybe some others I can't think of right now).

I think HP Ghost would be the better option of the few, as it allows Keldeo to hit Jellicent harder. Hydropump does a lot to Dragonite anyways, and other Dragons that dare come in. HP ghost also gives you an option when fighting Sub-Disable Gengars, as you can alternate between HP Ghost and Hydropump to break subs and put Gengar on pressure.

The first images of CoroCoro have started to come, courtesy of air_dmzil and show the cover of the new issue. This shows the silhouette of the Pokémon, Keldeo indicating that its revelation is in this month's issue. The images of this month's magazine are starting to come out and will likely be revealed over the next day or so so keep checking back
It begins. (in July)

I'm mentally preparing myself for Keldeo.

Quick, man the stations, handle the helm! Grab as many Lati@s and Toxic Jellicent as you can. Rain just got a whole heck of a lot more dangerous. I think CM Keldeo will be Rain's top sweeper.

Keldeo officially revealed:

If they're going to reveal Kyurem's form then the movie would be the perfect opportunity to do that..

Tons of Japanese kids and Pokemon fans will go watch the movie so it'll be a great platform for them to also hint about a new game with Kyurem's form in the movie.

Where did you read that? According to the link, the movie is titled Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsman Keldeo. So yes, Kyurem is most definitely going to be in there. He's even on the magazine scan.

Though I don't know anything about revealing a new form. I'd probably die of a heart attack if they hinted at both a new form and a new game all at once.

Keldeo is going to be a monster in the rain. I could even see it getting banned down the line if rain doesn't.

The real question is if Kyurem's new form will actually make it to OU...lol. I predict it will be less bulky and much faster than its old form.

Keldeo looks like THE threat for stall to cover. It can get past Blissey / Chansey with Secret Sword, blast past the more conventional physical walls with its Hydro Pump, and even get past certain counters depending on the Hidden Power it's running. From testing in the Dream World, it works well with Tornadus, Thundurus, and several other rain abusers.

I now start to understand a little bit why Toxicroak is so high in usage in the DW 1337 statistics. If we had the movesets for the DW OU, then i am sure that most Toxicroak would be Bulk Up variants.

The reason is because Bulk Up Toxicroak is the perfect counter to Keldeo, in rain of 'course!!! It avoids the 2hko from a +1 LO Keldeo's neutral Hidden Power witha a combination of Drain Punch healing and Leftovers and Dry Skin healing. Drain Punch also 2hkoes after 2 rounds of LO recoil. Against Leftovers Keldeo it is the same story. You 3hko with Drain Punch while it cannot 3hko back at +1. Pretty amazing for our little frog!

With that said, I would be massively disappointed in Smogon if Keldeo was banned or even considered for one. If he had the Speed of Thundurus, then yeah he'd be ban-able. But no, he has base 108 Speed. There's a lot of Psychic-types hovering right above him (Lati@s, Espeon, Alakazam, Starmie) and a LOT of Choice Scarf Pokemon that can easily pick-off a weakened Keldeo (Terrakion says "Sup, little bro?") and that's on top of common counters like Dragonite, Celebi, Gyarados, & Jellicent.

It's extremely comparable to Nasty Plot Infernape of DDP OU. His Focus Blasts tear Blissey a new asshole just like Keldeo's Secret Sword does, but at the end of the day, his counters are just sooo damn common that you're only truly effective about 50% of the time. In fact Keldeo shares many of the same counters with Infernape. Keldeo's a great Pokemon, don't get me wrong #14 in DW OU usage is nothing to scoff at, but he has that exact problem of his counters being too common & his Hidden Power can't cover all of them.

I am still waiting to see if he gets at least Glaciate as event move once it is officially released, sure not the best move but it makes getting past Latias if rain is not up.

I am still waiting to see if he gets at least Glaciate as event move once it is officially released, sure not the best move but it makes getting past Latias, Dragonite and Celebi easier if rain is not up.

Glaciate has 65 Base Power. HP Ice has 70. Keldeo doesn't have a move-slot to run both Glaciate & HP Electric with Secret Sword, Hydro Pump, & CM. The most Glaciate would do is slow Latios on the switch and make him switch out and then revenge you anyway since he's naturally faster.

I forgot to mention that it's list of counters is only going to grow when Contrary Serperior, Good (aka Power Whip) Chlorophyll Venusaur, and Regenerator Amoongus get released. Keldeo probably won't have a big impact on OU, (just like DW OU) he's more of the Pokemon you know that's around but 9 times out of 10, you already have something on your team that can beat it either by typing or sheer speed. In fact it's almost exactly like Nasty Plot Infernape..but bulkier & easier to set up...yet with even more counters due to Fire being a better offensive typing with Fighting... Huh.
