well, i have, in my team, i'm pretty sure a hacked Gon-z, now its stats are legit, but i though if i battle someone, do you think its wrong to use a legit hack?

Not if you tell them first. It's ok with most people, just let them know ahead of time that you think it's hacked, and if they have issues with that, switch it out for another poke.

I wouldn't concider it "wrong" unless my opponent did. And if they didnt want me using it then I wouldn't.

Thanks for this. This place was getting so repetitive but this thread is ever so refreshing with it's innovative "Is hacking okay?" angle.

Firstly, there's no such thing as a legit hack, by the very definition of the term. Legal hack might be better. Secondly, I guess as long as you tell the opponent beforehand, then I don't see a problem.

Imo it's okay if you tell your opponent. And don't trade it.

I've only been here a week or so, and these threads are already getting old.

Stop trying to use these boards as a means to justify yourself into using illegitimate pokemon. Please.

QFT.

Anyways as long as you don't trade it off as legit and make sure that you inform the person you are battling before hand then I don't see a problem.

The number of hacked Pokemon you use is irrelevant if it isn't 0, so 1 hacked Pokemon is no more "legit" than 6.

Looks like these threads have become more popular, I guess it's because we may haven't been taking hacking as seriously as we should...however, that's probably not even the case.

Hacking isn't by any means legit, however, some people allow battling with people who have Pokemon created by means of PokeSav, AR, and other hacking mediums. "Legit hacking" seems like an oxymoron, it's like a hooker in church, it just doesn't add up. :/ I guess we can call it "Fair hacking", as the Pokemon that has been hacked should have legitimate stats, not too perfect IVs (Double Perfect is pushing it), and the moveset and stats are completely within limits of said Pokemon.

I'm not saying that hacking should/shouldn't be allowed, I'm completely fine battling people who PokeSav'd reasonable Pokemon. Although it makes me laugh about Mewtwo, because he was PokeSav'd. :D

Heh, just tell your opponent. Say that you have 1 Pokemon you think might be hacked, but that its stats are not abnormal.

I would be ok with fighting your team.

lemme explain, i ment, a hack, with legal stats/moves, so, in otherwords, its a like a clone, its legit, with fair stats/ Ivs.

This is Smogon. Basically everone here has played via netbattle, which is essentially playing Pokemon where ALL your pokemon are hacked.

The truth is anyone that plays a serious competitive game will hack their pokemon. Having to level your pokemon has nothing to do with competition. The best I can do is link you to Sirlin... http://www.sirlin.net/archive/playing-to-win-part-1/ That outlines the basics of competitive play for ALL games. Basically, there are always people willing to call "cheap" when they lose. These people are just making excuses. As long as you follow the rules(have all your stats set straight, don't add more than the max amount of EVs, only use abilities your pokemon are allowed to have) then you're doing alright. No one can even prove you're cheating, either.

Legitimate and Hack. Bit of an oxymoron don't you think?
qft, took the words out of my mouth. I have nothing more to say.

Yeah, if you have to cheat to win, it doesn't really how good you are. And a lot of people are strictly against hacking so don't assume that thecheat like you presumably do. Netbattle and Shoddy exist for a reason, and they don't interfere with the real game. It's just like cheating in any other game. It's dishonest, and I personally think it can sometimes reflect in real life if you're willing to cheat at a game meant for not only competitive gamers, but for children as well, just to win. You want perfect 31 IVs and the best of egg moves? Use Shoddy and NB and don't interfere with the games. They're battle simulators, not the real, 100% thing. They're fair because your opponent will have the same broken IVs as you do, unlike the games, where they largely vary.

Quoted for truth. As long as you don't trade it, or anything else hacked.

What?! Listen, a person can hack Pokemon if they want (so long as they remain within the limits of the legit game, and they do not trade those Pokemon to others) but there are many people here who take Wi-Fi seriously, yet still choose not to use hacked Pokemon. The assumption that someone needs sextuple flawless IV's to remain competitive in Wi-Fi is naive at best, as is the assumption that breeding one competitive Pokemon and then trading for 5 others is a hard and long process.

http://www.sirlin.net/ptw/intermediates-guide/how-far-should-you-go-to-win/

So what lengths should a player go to in order to win? A player should use any tournament legal move available to him that maximizes his chances of winning the game.

I'm pretty sure most Tournaments say "no hacked stuff, nothing with AR/Pokesav" etc.

I think you completely missed the point of Sirlin's article if you can even make the statement that
The truth is anyone that plays a serious competitive game will hack their pokemon.
Breeding is a part of the competition if you have not realized. It's almost like saying "Any serious Magic the Gathering player will play with proxy cards to win tournaments".
Also I recommend you read the last part of the article you linked to, about the part about self improvement.

As long as the pokemon is within it's bounderies there is nothing logically wrong with using it.Some people will complain that it's not fair cause he took longer to get his pokemon then you but that's usually all they come up with.
