(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

I know we've beat this dead horse enough times, but there is just some dex descriptions which annoy me as they sound like superstition but never said to be, thus they sound like they're being presented as fact. And I'm not talking about exaggerations like with Machamp punching 1000 times in 3 second or Magcargo's magma being hotter than the sun (those are annoying in themselves though but I can understand there's truth in there its just "less" impressive). What I'm talking about mostly happens with Ghost-types or other Pokemon with a supernatural/mystical lean.

Two examples are with Yamask & Phantump. Their dex description says they're dead people. Like with Yamask I could maybe come up with the theory that they're using psychometry to read the memories associated with the death mask thus giving them more human-like behavior (such as having human empathy thus why they cry when looking at the mask, they're feeling sorrow over a lost life), but Phantump is pretty much stuck in superstition territory. Like closest I could think of an explanation is that in the past children whose bodies were found in the forest has a Phantump moaning over them, so people said the Phantump is the spirit of the child.
But uh, why couldn't they actually be dead people? We know for a fact that ghosts, as in, spirits, are an actual thing in the world of pokemon so why would it farfetched to say that perhaps some of these 'ghosts' somehow managed to take physical form and become a pokemon?

not quite get 6 but apparently nobody has any idea how the abbreviations works after 3 generations and that really bugs me

That's on the search engine you're using, not the people.

I just take all that as folklore, or even urban legends. "One day a boy woke up as a Kadabra", "That skull Cubone are wearing are taken from their dead mothers", or "if you look into the hole in Shedinja's back, your soul will be sucked in" sound like rumours that could have gained traction, despite the lack of any direct evidence (and hey, the protagonist is a ten-year-old, after all). Same goes for Yamask, Phantump, and most Ghost Pokémon, actually. The Pokédex is heavily in need of Poké-Snopes.

Just seems strange. So a person who died gets reincarnated as a Ghost-type Pokemon who can evolve into a different creature (which is presented with a more malicious personality), be caught by another human (for Pokemon who have different ideology it's alright, but I don't think a once human would like to be caught), and breed. The Ghost-type Pokemon always seemed like a supernatual creature with ghostly traits, not actually ghosts (infact the Japanese name for Ghost-types reference this I think, it's a different word for ghost than being a once living creature).

Not everyone is a competitive player. To them these forms full name is Rotom-Fan and Rotom-Fridge. How is a non-competitive person suppose to know Rotom-Fan's abbreviation is "S", and for that matter Rotom-Mow's abbreviation being "C"?

I know, just bothers me they don't say it as such and its presented as a fact. Doesn't help that nowadays most Pokemon recycle dex entries (even if they're in the regional dex; seriously GF, you couldn't come up with one/two new trivia for the returning Pokemon in the regional dex?) so the folklore is ALL we get about them.

To be fair, I didn't even realize that Rotom-S was Rotom-Fan and I play competitively and I love Rotom. Why is it S? And why the hell is Rotom-Mow called Rotom-C? I understand Frost and Fan since they begin with the same letter, but none of the other Rotom forms begin with a M!

I don't know the abbreviations either
Here's an explanation, because a lot of you seem to be confused.
iAYPZUC.png

Clockwise from top right
Official name | Smogon name | Smogon abbreviation
Rotom-Fan ----| Rotom-Spin ----| Rotom-S
Rotom-Wash -| Rotom-Wash --| Rotom-W
Rotom-Mow ---| Rotom-Cut -----| Rotom-C
Rotom-Heat ---| Rotom-Heat ---| Rotom-H
Rotom-Frost --| Rotom-Frost ---| Rotom-F
Collectively ----| Rotom-All -------| Rotom-A (this was used mostly before the Rotom forms underwent a type change)
Rotom ------------| Rotom-Normal | Rotom-N (or just Rotom)
(note: I used hyphens to match up the columns, because you can't put more than 1 consecutive space for some reason)
The Smogon names are used to abbreviate forms in one letter; for example, to differentiate the Fan and Frost forms.

Doesn't explain why they changed Rotom-Mow to Rotom-Cut unless they thought people might confuse the M with a N upon a quick glance.

Smogon names are just the Japanese names since we knew those before the international release.

It really bugs me that we don't call Rotom-Mow "Rotom-M" like logical people.

I've been playing Platinum recently (I was going to play HeartGold, but I couldn't find my sister's copy), and I've found natures to be kind of annoying for story runs. I honestly don't need something super min-maxed for in-game and can live with neutral natures, but catching stupid stuff like a Quiet Starly is really irritating to my sorta-kinda OCD and I'm compelled to soft reset* for a passable one. I miss being able to catch whatever in the early games and not have to worry about the stat growths being screwed with.

*I'm soft reseting instead of catching more stuff because it's earlygame and I want to save money.

I tend to just deal with it. Though sometimes the nature of a random catch can make me want to use it, such as a playthrough of White where I used a Boldore I caught since it was Impish.

Sassy eviolite Boldore in B2W2, this thing is fun.

I don't really worry about nature's for ingame run other than the starter.

Maybe this is because I am spoiled by playing on Showdown but now that there are Event Specific moves, why can't Game Freak change some of the former Event Exclusive moves into level up or tutor moves?

Like Entei with Espeed and Flare Blitz...or Victini with V-Create...the move that was highlighted as its actual signature move (aside from that 100 base power lava plume nobody uses on it because Blue Flare master race)

I'm generally not bothered by natures in-game, but, if it's a Pokemon I really like, it can't have a nature that reduces it's main offensive stat. Or speed.

I have the same issue as of late, it bugs me to no end. I usually just catch another instead of soft resetting though.

It'd be a lot more appreciated than say shoving Celebrate or Hold Hands on them...

It bugs me a little that the 20th anniversary Mythical Pokemon don't have any special moves. Why does Mew only know Pound? Would it have been that much trouble to give it Defog and Sucker Punch, at least? Or the already mentioned V-Create for Victini? It ultimately doesn't matter since they're very rarely ever going to be allowed in official competitions anyway, but it still annoys me a bit.

The popular notion that Game Freak make their games to fit into pre-defined timelines, and not vice versa, tends to annoy me slightly whenever a new game is on the horizon.

Folks, the Pokémon franchise has never tried to be consistent. Just look up all the mutually exclusive back stories for Poké Balls, for instance. The script writers will not feel restricted by previous events when writing a new game. They make some continuity nods and such, but a "timeline" only exists as an afterthought, and it is bent to suit the events of the coming game, rather than the other way around.

In short, you can't make statements about Sun and Moon based on the explanations in XY and ORAS. They may be worked in or conveniently overlooked, depending on what best suits the new game, but nothing can be said for certain until the games are out.

Allegedly because that's the same moves they had when they were first originally released.
Which is also kind of annoying.

I feel this is a response to me defending the timeline hasn't changed, which I still do. I never said GF couldn't play fats and loose what happened during the timeline, infact when they do reference other games they keep it vague. All I'm defending is the order of which the events happened, not how the events played out. Heck, within a generation the events that took place don't line up since we have multiple versions of the same story being told but certain elements changed around. But, these events did happen in a certain order. Kanto events/ORAS > Johto events/Sinnoh events > Black & White > BW2 & XY > Sun & Moon. Though as you see in the timeline, there's no problem with them going back and having a new game take place before a certain generation or alongside it.

"Why it important then for their to be a timeline then"? Aside from world building (know what events took place allows us to see how the Pokemon world might have changed due to those events) it's also to keep up with recurring characters. Take Looker for example, in Platinum he was a goofy detective with a Croagunk partner, this hasn't changed in BW though we do see him doing his job of being an international police agent, in XY we discover his Croagunk partner died which we see really affected him, finally in ORAS we go back in time and see him as a man who got lost at see and has amnesia (maybe this having to do why he became an international police agent). While the timeline has very little effect on the story of each generation, for a few instances there is need of the timeline. Heck, the events of Johto and BW2 rely on the events of Kanto and BW happening.

There's one thing, rather; a person, that REALLY annoys me in gen6 and that is none other than: Shauna

What's the point of her character other than being a goody-two-shoes who does not but goof around and be annoying? As amusing as the Firework Scene is ( "I've never watched fireworks alone with a boy before..." 15 secs later... "Here have this: Tm13 Protect" ಠ_ಠ ) she's a farcry from being a decent character.

Nothing infuriated me more than when Shauna won a medal for effectively "splitting up" Team Flare's peons by being a dumb witch. That wasn't even bravery, she did it because she is useless, likes getting in over her shoulders and the primary reason: she is mentally stilted ( actual 10 years old girls should be offended if they were compared to her).

Heck, even the games lamps shade at the fact that Shaunda has absolutely no reason for being there; she just is.
