Electivire has very little reason to be Electric/Fighting, and it's frankly absurd that the fanbase at large has latched onto this idea. The only valid people in that camp are the ones who also think at least Magmortar (if not the entirety of both families) should be Fighting-type, because at least they're logically consistent.
Both the Electabuzz and Magmar family learn a bunch of weird Fighting-type moves through breeding. This is the only valid justification for making them Fighting-type. Simply having large arms is not a good reason. And Dark Mortar makes even less sense.
Also look at who they breed with. it's mostly Fighting-types. It would be one thing if they just learned a batch of Fighting-type Moves from various Types of Pokemon, but it's not, a lot of their Egg Moves are via the other parent being a Fighting-type.
I'll give you Fighting isn't there primary Type, though that's the point of the Secondary-type, it's the Type which has the smaller influence of their design (sort of like recessive genes).
That said, I don't see Magmortar being a Fighting-type (I agree with
Samtendo09 about it could have been part Poison), though probably wouldn't mind getting Vacuum Wave.
While I agree that the less savory fey need more attention in pokemon, I think most of the point of changing Electivire's type is so it can get good physical STAB.
What you don't think Electivire can
frolic Play Rough? Though they could be good candidates for Spirit Break.
You know what's annoying? There's still no Electric/Fighting, Ground/Fighting or Bug/Dark. Despite the types being around since first generation in the first two cases and second generation in the latter one. At least we got Electric/Dark and Bug/Psychic in Gen 8, and I'll give a minor pass to Fairy/Fighting since it's only been a couple generations since Fairy was introduced.
In my
Repository thread I have a list of all the Type Combos that haven't been done yet. To list some of the oddities that stand out to me
- Normal/Ghost: Come on GF, you're really resisting the urge to do this paradoxical Pokemon? Many have thought of Schrodinger's Cat Pokemon for this Typing, let's see GF either fall in line or try to come up with something else.
- Fighting/Ground: Both Types have had members which were big & bulky creatures, how have they never combined them together? Some Ground-types probably could be shifted over to being part Fighting-Type: Marowak, Mudsdale, Diggersby.
- Ground/Fairy: Feel like this would be another easy combination to do considering how many Fairies make their homes underground. Sure we got Carbink but there's other "mining" faeries.
- Bug/Dark: You'd think for anyone they'd make a Bug/Dark to be Guzma's main. But yeah, there's certainly a lot of bugs with nasty attitudes. Probably waiting for the Australia region.
- Grass/Fire: If they do this Type combination than Grass has been paired with every Type.
- Electric/Fighting: It they do this Type combination than Electric has been paired with every Type.
That said, there's also a few combinations that are also only done by one family I want to shed some light onto:
- Flying/Fairy (Togetic/Togekiss): Like, really? With all the depictions of flying faeries (or similar creatures), not only do they only have one but only Togetic barely resembles them and Togekiss is just this bird blob thing.
- Flying/Poison (Zubat family): One of the Pokemon that has held onto its unique Type combination since introduction without even an alternate form using it. We have smoke/smog, poisonous birds, flying poisonous mythical creatures, Pokemon even made a flying scorpion which from some reason is Flying/GROUND.
- Ghost/Poison (Gastly family): Another long holder, dead bodies are considered a biohazard and poison in general is a good way to kill something. Yet the gas balls/shadow imitator remain to be the only Ghost/Poison-types.
- Ground/Bug (Wormadam Sandy Cloak (& Nincada)): Many Bug species live underground, what do you mean the only fully evolved Ground/Bug-types is a bagworm covered in sand? Nincada I guess is fine, it does represent how some of these ground-dwelling bugs are larvae that then becoming flying insects, but there's plenty which are adult bugs! Here's an idea: Trapdoor Spider!
- Ground/Grass (Torterra): You'd think would be a VERY common combination like Water/Ice, but oddly isn't. We just have Torterra.
- Bug/Fairy (Ribombee): Now, this probably is due to Ribombee is the essential representation of all those drawings of a fairy with bug wings, but faeiries have been depicted with several kind of bug wings that I could see there having bene more (like a butterfly species that's part Fairy, like Beautifly).
- Ghost/Fairy (Mimikyu): There's a lot of connection between the two Types, yet the only Pokemon that is the combo is this little ghost that imitates Pikachu because it wants love. Huh. Like, Mimikyu counts as a Ghost/Fariy, but Mismagius which is based on the ghostly fey banshee isn't?
- Water/Grass (Lotad family): Feels like another combination which would have at least a few more members like Ground/Grass.
Honestly I could probably come up with a concept for every Type without a combination or only has one, but I think we're already tiptoeing in wishlisting territory.
Alright here's something new that annoys me in Pokemon: Wonky distribution events. Signed up for the Pokemon Newsletter with two emails so I could get a code for Dada Zarude and a Shiny Celebi: Neither account got the email. And this happens often enough that they've literally had to make a support page for it...you know, instead of trying to fix it?
Just go the Deoxys route and make these Pokemon available in an ingame story or campaign...less frustration that way, and maybe you could allow mythicals in official formats for once
Actually they always had the support page, it's just now they're putting up messages telling people "wait 24 hours to see if it comes in" and now "we're backed up from tickets about people not getting the newsletter please be patient".
Anyway, while I understand them wanting to do the events, I always thought that the generation after they should then put all the Mythicals in the game. That way those who never got the Mythical are only missing out for one generation and there would be at least one game you can catch the Mythical easily in. Would keep the event distributions but also solve the problem of what happens to the Mythical when the event is over and there's no other way to get it easily.
