Look At What I Chained - Mark II

Well, I'm currently trying to chain shiny Togepis in Luxury Balls but my highest has been 25 so far. Interesting thing I learned along the way, Togepi can be found at level 18 AND - Unbeknownst to the Serebii entry - level 23. Great guide Diesel, I'm getting moderately better at this!

After a weekend of casual chaining I return with Voltorbs, Caterpies and a lone Surskit lol. Curse caterpies for being one of my favorite shinies because it's such a pain to chain! I actually managed to get 2 successful Caterpie chains to 40, but sadly my second chain broke (finger slipped..) after just 2 shinies. =(

Caterpie x12 / x2 (still pissed!)

Surskit x1 (early shiny at 37, then chain broke by Bidoof!)

Dun dun dun! (or not..) IVS:

Hasty Soundproof
21 / 9 / 18 / 26 / 28 / 25 HP Poison 42

Decent, but it's a shame about the 9 atk since it kinda defeats the point of using Hasty...

Timid (F)
19 / 21 / 18 / 29 / 27 / 15 HP Dragon 58

Timid (M)
25 / 3 / 20 / 15 / 13 / 30 HP Psychic 46...

If only these two were combined into one Caterpie. I suppose the second one gets the job done, but I was so determined to get a high speed/sp.atk one. I'll give it another go when I recover from the trauma of my second caterpie chain breaking at 42.

Surskit looked like it had solid IVs, but I didn't check because my synch failed and it decided to be docile.

Well, I had nothing to do, so I decided to catch some shinies. To be precise, 3 Electrikes, 2 Shinxes, and a Budew. Two of the Electrikes are Timid, one is Calm. Both Shinxes are Adamant, and Budew is Timid. Budew decided to be annoying and put its shiny patch on the edge, so I thought, what's the chances of the chain breaking? Surely at least one of the patches should stay in the grass... But no. It decided to be a bitch and break the chain. Oh well, at least I got one.

Of special note, the first Shinx has flawless Attack. More exactly, 25/31/7/15/17/3. Annoyingly sucky speed. Also, the Calm Electrike has HP Ice :P
I'm not really after IVs, I just want to show off to my friends, who suck at chaining. The furthest my friends have ever got was 20, and the only shiny one's caught was a Bidoof on 2. Lucky, but he was trying to get Shinx XD

I've captured 3 more shiny Aron and just check out their IVs:

I think the 2nd one is the best besides the nature.

Things to help keep your chain going

Static - electric type; Magnet Pull - steel type; Swarm - bug type; Storm Drain - water type; Cute Charm - normal type

I found this in a chaining guide and was wondering if the Drain, Swarm and Cute charm could be confirmed.

Please and TY

Tynan - Static and Magnet Pull work for sure, the others don't. Actually, in the first slot Cute Charm would attract pokemon of the opposite gender more often, but that's useless considering that you only care about the gender of the pokemon you're catching, which are shiny and need to be synchronized.

'Grats on the catches guys! :)

Hey Diesel. I don't have AIM on this computer, but was wondering if you could point me in the right direction of a few things when it comes to chaining;

1) Your chaining guide doesn't really give the basic basics of chaining, like the ball catch rate which you mention, and the stuff like Static.

2) I didn't see anything which said that when you get out of view of all the patches, your chain breaks. My chain broke at 16 because of it. I'm just a beginner chainer, and that was my highest :(.

Any help?

Hmm, well things like ball catch rate and whatnot are all up on Serebii, I'm working on updating the guide to make it a little more beginner-friendly. Static or Magnet Pull works when you place a pokemon (fainted or alive) in the first slot in your party. That makes the electric/steel pokemon appear 30% more than they normally would. So, Flaaffy would appear 42% of the time on Route 222 as opposed to 12% of the time without Static.

2. Yea, it breaks, I thought I mentioned that, maybe I didn't though, I'll make note of that. My bad.

Anything else you need help with?

Ty Diesel

And I have nothing to do all day and am getting better and better at chaining so if you like I can help you with your project.

I have successfully chained 6 different shinnies and got hoppip to 33 reviewing you guide so if you would like my help I am glad to but am not the best.

tho Im not crap either :)

I've recently obtained one shiny Girafarig last night but only one as I ran into the wrong patch by accident. And today I also got a shiny Ponyta at 33 and I entered a supposed safe 4 away and my chain broke.

Diesel; I had a few more things, but I've forgotten now. I'll take down some notes when if I read it tonight, and pass them on to you.

Also, can someone give me a link to anything about ball catch rates and such? On Serebii or whatever.

My chain broke with "a grassy patch remained silent" on #44. :( Here are the geo's that I got.

26/18/25/29/1/13 - brave

31/8/15/8/29/27 - adamant (polish sweeper anyone?)

17/26/5/29/12/7 - lax

23/7/30/22/13/15 - hasty

I'm gonna try and chain my first official shiny tonight.

So basically, I get my chain to 40, then reset until I get shiny patches?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Have you read through diesel's guide? That helped me a lot. After you get the optimal patch theory thing down, it's pretty easy.(provided you aren't chaining in sandstorm/hail)

I just calculated my shiny Pokémon's Hidden Powers.
Calm Electrike: Hidden Power Ice (!) 34 (...)
Timid Electrike 1: Hidden Power Grass (!!) 38 (... ...)
Timid Electrike 2: Hidden Power Bug (?) 42 (... ... ...)
Timid Budew: Hidden Power Ghost (!) 30 (*dies*)

As you see, awesome types, but awesomely terrible base power. Incidentally, the Shinxs' HPs were Dark 49 and Ice 54, but they're Adamant so...

Going to chain Gastly today.

Dive Ball, or Dusk ball?
I say Dusk, easier to catch them too;). I just caught a shiny Flaaffy after an entire day of resetting... My finger slipped and yeah, I eescape with this pitiful Quirky one, Synch didn't work:(...
(or I forgot to put it in front of Raichu...:P)

I dunno how to make the cool pics of pokes and balls but i will post the info :)

my chain broke a 27 when a kricketot appeared. i was pretty angry so i switched out to dragonite and outraged his ass. i didnt have the motivation to keep going, but thanks alot for all the help you gave in you chaining guide.

Geez, you have pretty high goals for chaining:) Anyway I'm currently at a chain of 40 Camerupt and have been resetting for about a couple hours and still no shiny patch, but still going on.

EDIT: First shiny just appeared!
