Magic: The Gathering

If specific decks get banned, count me out. I like running dredge in Legacy and I'm surr that would be banned for being "unfun." You'd might as well ban Force of Will too because as much as I love control I think FoW is retarded as hell. Keeping the integrity of the formats is important imo and arbitrarily banning decks for being unfun is scrubby as hell. Everyone has a different idea of fun. I think Aggro is boring as hell to play as and Combo is boring as hell to play against, but that doesn't mean they should be banned. WotC makes the game, not us.

That said, if we could somehow do a superhuge cube draft with low-power cards, I would be SO down d:
Absolutely true.

Banning the pet decks people don't want to play against means you might as well just play open format with a massive banlist.

Force isn't even good..... the only reason people have to play force in Legacy is because of actually broken cards like Tendrils of Agony, Hive Mind, and other such cards that ACTUALLY break the rules of the game. Force of Will requires the caster to 2 for 1 themselves.. there's a reason the guy who won GP Providence ran 0 forces in his deck. I am in full agreement with your last sentence though! =D (Though I would prefer a powered cube xD)

Vintage is indeed retarded. All Vintage is is 1. Aquire Power Nine. 2. Run some broken T1 kill strat. 3. ??? 4. Profit.
The words of a man who has obviously never played or even payed attention to a Vintage tournament ._. A fucking deck with aether vial and a bunch of hate bears won a vintage side tournament for a mox sapphire at a pro tour, please do not talk.

Speaking of cube, we've created an #mtg Limited Infinity pool. This is a format where you draft a deck of the best (read: splashiest) cards in magic, and you have infinite mana to cast them. The only catch is that you can only cast one spell per turn. If we do this, we can make some cubes.

Volt turn in every tier! I'm in despair!
I thought force of will didn't stop tendrils of agony?

FoW can counter one copy of tendrils, but each Stormed copy needs to be countered individually.

I'd go with Modern, due to the fact that it's fairly uncharted territory right now, so might lead to more creativity in decks used. Currently, I've been playing with Death Cloud, as well as trying to break Quest for the Holy Relic (it hasn't worked), as well as building an irl fairly standard Melira combo deck.

For quest decks u wanna drop fast.
4xMenite
4xOrthicopter
4xMyr Servitor
4xArchbound Ravenger
4xDisciple of the Vault

Spells
1xAether Vial
3xQuest for the Holy relic
4xThoughtcast
1xsword of fire and ice
1xArgauntaun Armor (cant spell it.)
1xCranial Plating
4xSmother

Lands-27
2xGemstone mine
4xDarksteel Citadel
9xSwamps
2xCreeping tar pit
5xISalnds
5xPlains

Currently what im running in real life. Works fine the speed is amazing.

Side board.
4xSteel overseer
4xSingal best
2xDeath mark
1xChalice of the void
2xExtripate
2xRelic of Progenitus

Side deck allows u to over run like american steel does.

Im testing red/green vengevine combo and I need some help. The problem I'm having is that if i dont get the combo in my opening hand I generally am not explosive enough to beat other aggro:

4 BBE
2 Magus of the Moon
4 Lotus Cobra
4 Llanowar elves
4 Fauna Shaman
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Beast Within
2 Boom//Bust
2 Sword of Feast and Famine
4 Vengevine

4 Misty Rainforest
4 Verdant Catacombs
4 Stomping Ground
2 Mountain
10 Forest

Im thinking about ditching lotus cobra but not sure what would come in.

Try having serum powder in your deck (when u mulligan.) for a better chance at exploding upon entrance.

-4 lotus
+1 serum powder
+3 Menites (the 0 costing 1/1 guys. Gets vengvine out in a hurry.)

i, on the other hand, am perfectly content with transform's implementation. it is the least cumbersome way to do it without compromising text space.

also i love how many people are saying things like this on the wizards forum:
I was happy that Innistrad is comming and now I'm very, very disappointed becouse of one thing: two faced cards. Horrible, terible, awfull. I'm not going to buy even one booster of Innistrad.

It is extremely cumbersome and it will be very annoying to deal with, wizards will look back on this as an unnecessary mistake, they could easily use flip cards instead. The mechanic itself is fine, implementation has been silly.

I'll still buy Innistrad - It's a minor sticking point, and the whole thing basically reeks of avoid-using-flip-cards-at-all-costs, but some of the cards themselves are great, and all the non-Transform things are good so far.

the problem with flip cards is how the fuck do you fit a planeswalker onto a flip card. you can fit the 13/13 trampler on a flip card (without any art at all, which is awful), but anything much more complex than that would look horrible.

i really wish they'd gone down a different route with werewolves though; encouraging people to not play spells is really quite awful.

With the exception of the Planeswalker, all of the previewed Transform cards so far could have been fit onto a flip card with minor variations if anything.

Garruk, you'd have no chance - but that's part of my complaint. This unwieldy mechanic seems to have been favoured over returning flip cards solely so they could have a transforming Garruk and that feels horribly unnecessary. So either that's a single card justifying an entire mechanic, or they're deliberately trying to set up another JTMS economic situation because of what that did to their Worldwake sales.

Either way, I think it's a bad decision, but it's more of a frustrating act of silliness and impracticalness than it is The Death Of Magic.

Okie so the tribe has spoken. So we've voted on Modern as our tournament of choice

Now. What kind of tournament do we want?

- 8 man tournament with Bo3
- Swiss tournament (We split up into groups of 4s, everyone plays everyone once in Bo3 series; top 2 from each group moves on to a 4 man tournament with Bo3)
- Round robin? Winner with the highest score is the overall winner (this is a lot of fucking games though)

Apparently, the art of hyperbole is lost here. I'm well aware that vintage is more than just running the power 9, thanks. I was just exaggerating. There are plenty of other things that broken beyond hell in the format besides them, they are just the most prominent since it is the only format those
cards are legal in.

Anyways, I think we should base it on the size. If it's a small tourney (like 8 or less), just keep it a Bo3 single-elim style tournament. If it's bigger than that, then do the Swiss rounds with a cut to the top 4.

What Fig said. Swiss style, cut to top four. For the assumed size of this event, figuring out tiebreakers based on omw and gw percentages shouldn't be at all difficult.

Oh also, if you are planning on playing in the tournament, please post on my Wall so I can get a headcount. Thanks

Just the best post in the thread ^___^

(but yeah as far as tournament format goes, I am fine with swiss/cut to top 4)

Flip Card Garruk wouldn't have worked TBH. Too much of knee-jerk BUTTHURT. We'll see how bad they are when they actually come out :>

Count me in the tournament, too, I guess. I've never played a game of Modern, but I do have a deck, so!

Yes, but that's making the entire mechanic just so you can have one card, who would already have been popular and highly playable/valuable. Cards don't justify mechanics, mechanics should justify cards.
