Chlorophyll/Early Bird/PickpocketDark Aura

  • Good mixed attacking stats which can be boosted further by either Swords Dance or Nasty Plot.
  • Dark Aura gives Shiftry a significant boost to its dark type STAB moves.
  • Speed is only average, meaning Shiftry is often overly reliant on Sucker Punch
  • Has a poor defense typing and is rather frail.

Calcs:

+2 252 SpA Shiftry Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 340-402 (48.3 - 57.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

New
Moves: Knock Off, Horn Leech

  • Incredible mixed attacking stats allow Cacturne to hit extremely hard from both sides.
  • Storm Drain is better than Water Absorb for Cacturne as it grants it a special attack boost.
  • Knock Off is a useful STAB that Cacturne didn't have before for some reason. Horn Leech is an alternative for physical sets to regain health
  • Cacturne is still extremely frail with mediocre speed and a bad defensive typing

Ludicolo @ Ludicolonite
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Moonblast
- Fiery Dance
- Synthesis / Substitute

Ludicolo-Mega is an incredibly powerful Pokemon thanks to its near-perfect coverage. The only typing resistant to Water, Fairy, and Fire is a Poison/Water type. This means Toxapex is the only real relevant resist to Ludicolo. The above set is a 3 attacks variant that abuses Ludicolo's coverage. Synthesis can be used after taking hits from Pokemon like Heatran or Greninja, while Substitute is also an option to rid Toxapex useless (unless it runs Poison STAB, which is uncommon) and gain momentum while forcing a switch. Ludicolo can't exactly do much to touch Toxapex, even behind a Substitute, though.

New Moves: U-turn, Spikes

Shiftry @ Shiftrite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Leaf Storm
- Dark Pulse
- Focus Blast / Spikes / Hurricane

Mega Shiftry is a powerhouse with its Adaptability. At +2, even some resists such as Tapu Bulu or Mawile-Mega can get OHKO'd by Leaf Storm. Focus Blast is a potential option to target Pokemon like Ferrothorn. Spikes are helpful to weaken resists. Hurricane targets AV Tangrowth specifically, but can also help against Tapu Bulu if Leaf Storm is not the desired play. Modest secures several KOs like an OHKO on Garchomp without boosts, but Timid is more desired for the higher speed. Mega Shiftry's frailty, especially on the special side, and poor defensive type makes it easy to revenge kill. Scarfers like Landorus-Therian, Greninja, or Kartana easily KO Mega Shiftry with their respective super effective attack.

Shiftry @ Shiftrite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spikes / Defog
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- U-turn / Swords Dance

On this set, Shiftry takes to the physical side and plays a role of slight utility. Shiftry-Mega can use its extraordinarily powerful Knock Off to threaten Pokemon like Zapdos and Ferrothorn. Due to its offensive presence, Shiftry can find chances to Spike up or even remove hazards via Defog. U-turn is what can set Shiftry-Mega apart from Kartana, and Shiftry can pivot around against its checks like Skarmory.

New Moves: Fire Lash, Fire Blast

Cacturne @ Cacturnite
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Seed Bomb
- Fire Lash
- Superpower

Cacturne with Swords Dance can abuse its excellent Grass + Fire STAB combo on the physical side. Mega Cacturne's poor defenses and speed still apply here unfortunately, though Intimidate aims to lower damage from physical attacks. Fire Lash is extremely strong thanks to its ability to always lower defense. Superpower coverage is used to hit Heatran specifically, but it can also hit Dragons like Hydreigon or Kyurem hard.

New Moves: Wood Hammer, Superpower
Description: Mega Shiftry can abuse No Guard with accurate Hurricanes, Focus Blasts, and Leaf Storms. It can also run physical sets with Swords Dance with STAB Wood Hammer and Knock Off, as well as having a powerful Sucker Punch.

Mega Cacturne
Ability

Spe: 55 ---> 55
Weight: 97.4 kg

New Moves: Wood Hammer, Knock Off
Description: Mega Cacturne is a mixed sweeper in sand, with high offenses and access to Swords Dance and Nasty Plot. STAB Wood Hammer and Knock Off will do a lot of damage after a boost, or it can go special with Energy Ball and Dark Pulse.

Mega Shiftry
Ability
: Wind Control - Automatically sets Tailwind if harsh sunlight is active while it is on the field; Hurricane always hits during harsh sunlight.
HP: 90
Atk: 100 ---> 135 (+35)
Def: 60 ---> 75 (+15)
SpA: 90 ---> 125 (+35)
SpD: 60 ---> 75 (+15)

New Moves: Solar Blade, U-turn
Description: A support pokemon for sun teams that serves a variety of functions. It can be a defogger, offensive pivot, or setup sweeper/wallbreaker. It can even use Explosion immediately to set up for an ally Fire-type to abuse Tailwind and sun at the same time. The custom ability is inspired by Shiftry's lore, which is based on a Japanese mythical being that is also known for stirring up strong winds.

Mega Ludicolo
Ability

HP: 80

New Moves: Growth, Psychic
Description: A bulky wall breaker for Rain teams, capable of boosting with Growth in rain and then smashing things with a 10% boosted Solar Beam or powering through with Giga Drain. It has Psychic and Ice Beam to help deal with the biggest defensive threats vs. Rain, such as Toxapex, Tapu Bulu, and Tangrowth.

Mega Cacturne
Ability
: Aftermath
HP: 70
Atk: 115 ---> 170 (+55)
Def: 60 ---> 45 (-15)
SpA: 115 ---> 170 (+55)
SpD: 60 ---> 45 (-15)
Spe: 55 ---> 75 (+20)
Weight: 107.3 kg
New Moves: Knock Off, Power Whip
Description: A Waterford vase among glass cannons, harder to switch into than Mega Alakazam, but considerably squishier. STAB Sucker Punch coming from 170 attack is a huge selling point; being a priority move that isn't very compatible with Choice Band, a high powered mega can use it better than usual. Aftermath helps it KO enemies that it can't OHKO.

Mega Ludicolo
Ability
: Berzerk
HP: 80
Atk: 70 --> 80 (+10)
Def: 70 --> 90 (+20)
SpA: 90 --> 120 (+30)
SpD: 100 --> 105 (+5)
Spe: 70 --> 105 (+35)

New Moves: Hurricane, Air Slash
Description: Ludicolo has a very fun typing and I want to make use of it! It almost doesn't need new moves, to be honest.
I decided to give it Berzerk to benefit from low HP plays with either its nice recovery option, Giga Drain, or a stronger Energy Ball. Works well with its good speed. I wanted to emphasize the idea of playing outside in heavy rain, thus the wind-type moves. It actually doesn't absolutely need rain anymore, but can highly benefit from it, so I gave it Hurricane to further reward the rain play if it's picked.
The happy dancer gets mad!

Mega Shiftry
Ability
: Chlorophyl
HP: 90
Atk: 100 --> 130 (+30)
Def: 60 --> 70 (+10)
SpA: 90 --> 105 (+15)
SpD: 60 --> 75 (+15)
Spe: 80 --> 100 (+20)

New Moves: Solar Blade, Fire Lash
Description: For Shiftry, a Pokemon that i absolutely love, I decided to go the opposite way and make it very reliable on Sun, with a huge reward in Chlorophyl, Solar Blade and Fire Lash. I first wanted to take the Tengu route with a Flying flavor but more firepower sounds on this Baddy Bad Seed really good!
Think Swampert, but with sun and much cooler.

Mega Cacturne
Ability
: Intimidate
HP: 70
Atk: 115 --> 135 (+20)
Def: 60 --> 100 (+40)
SpA: 115 --> 115 (+0)
SpD: 60 --> 100 (+40)
Spe: 55 --> 55 (+0)

New Moves: Rock Slide, Glare
Description: What does the fox say a scarecrow do? It proteccs! Also, it removes its weakness to birds.
Again, I don't want to make it too reliable on its beloved weather. I always pictured Cacturne as an all-out-attacker but let's be honest, it has some amazing defensive/bulky attacker tools. So let's drop any hope of increasing its speed and focus on making it robust, with a typing I love for a spikymon.
Fear Bug, Ice, Steel and Fighting moves but has everything it needs to retaliate in its Fighting coverage and STAB. It can really work with a Sandstorm setter to be very bulky and annoying. Of course, it can't really stall (Leech Seed, Spiky Shield) for too long if it wants to benefit from the sandstorm-boosted SpD.
It's not an all-powerful Mega but it's fun, and that's enough for me.

Mega Ludicolo
Ability: Swift Swim/Rain Dish/Own Tempo ----> Drizzle
Typing: Water/Grass

Stats:

HP: 80
Attack: 70 ----> 60 (-10)
Defense: 70 ----> 120 (+50)
Special Attack: 90 ----> 110 (+20)
Special Defense: 100 ----> 120 (+20)
Speed: 70 ----> 90 (+20)
Base Stat Total: 480 ----> 580 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Hurricane, Quiver Dance
Description: This Mega right here ranges from defensive, a tank, a wallbreaker, or a special sweeper. It has plenty of moves to begin with. Defensive Ludicolo can use Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Protect, and Scald to get a 1.5x boost from the rain and can burn the target too. With powerful moves like Hydro Pump and Hurricane, it can wreck mons like Heatran, Mega Venusaur, Tornadus, or opposing Mega Ludicolo. Access to Quiver Dance can boost moves even more and +1 speed can outspeed almost all Pokemon in OU. But there are downsides, you will sacrifice one of the best rain sweepers in the metagame, and that is Mega Swampert.

Mega Shiftry
Ability: Chlorophyll/Early Bird/Pickpocket ----> Drought
Typing: Grass/Dark

Stats:

HP: 90
Attack: 100 ----> 130 (+30)
Defense: 60 ----> 70 (+10)
Special Attack: 90 ----> 110 (+20)
Special Defense: 60 ----> 70 (+10)
Speed: 80 ----> 110 (+30)
Base Stat Total: 480 ----> 580 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Power Trip, Solar Blade, Overheat
Description: This Mega will be of great use as a physical or a mixed wallbreaker. With Growth getting a 2x boost instead of 1.5x and has plenty of moves to break with mons. STAB boosted 100 power Power Trip will break special walls such as Jirachi, Chansey, or Celesteela, but in case of Heatran and Celesteela, watch out for sun boosted fire attacks. Solar Blade to break through Toxapex or Gastrodon. You can also use Knock Off to remove and cripple mons even more. You can use Overheat to break physical walls such as Tangrowth, and Solar Beam to break through mons such as Pyukumuku, Quagsire, Hippowdon, or Suicune.
The Mega's abilities are at 3.5 for Ludicolo and 4 for Shiftry. Shiftry can only have 2 new moves.

Mega Cacturne
Ability
: Aftermath
HP: 70
Atk: 115 ---> 180 (+65)
Def: 60 ---> 45 (-15)
SpA: 115 ---> 180 (+65)
SpD: 60 ---> 45 (-15)
Spe: 55
Weight
: 107.3 kg
You sure you don't want to add any new moves?

Mega Ludicolo
Ability
: Cooky Dance (Gives +1 priority to dance moves. Does not require full HP.)
HP: 80
Atk: 70 --> 90 (+20)
Def: 70 --> 80 (+10)
SpA: 90 --> 120 (+30)
SpD: 100 --> 100 (+0)
Spe: 70 --> 110 (+40)

New Moves: Quiver Dance, Fiery Dance
Description: Water/Grass is a good typing, and what at least gives it some relevance compared to the other 2. This Mega sees to improve it's speed and power in order to give a much more deserative spot. Now with priority Fire coverage to deal with Bugs easier and a quick way to set up, this is sure to at the very least make it a somewhat good offensive threat.

Mega Shiftry
Ability
: Storm Focus (Compound Eyes rename)
HP: 90
Atk: 100 --> 135 (+35)
Def: 60 --> 40 (-20)
SpA: 90 --> 135 (+45)
SpD: 60 --> 40 (-20)
Spe: 80 --> 140 (+60)

New Moves: Extreme Speed, Drill Peck
Description: Shiftry, but its a real Tengu and a pretty powerful attacker, with a better form of priority, powerful STAB options, and much higher power, on top of worser bulk. A renamed Compound Eyes is here to help fix up Hurricane's bad accuracy, and just since the original name doesn't make much sense.

Ability: Swift Swim/Rain Dance/Own Tempo ----> Swift Swim
Typing: Water/Grass

Stats:
HP: 80
Attack: 70 ----> 70
Defense: 70 ----> 100 (+30)
Special Attack: 90 ----> 130 (+40)
Special Defense: 100 ----> 110 (+10)
Speed: 70 ----> 90 (+20)
BST: 480 ----> 580
Movepool Additions: N/A (Whirlpool is no longer transfer-only)
Description: Go fast in Rain with 130 SpA/90Spe or run defensive with 80/100/110 bulk. Your type combination does an excellent job helping with both, the offensive route mostly due to Ice Beam. Only issue on Defensive MLudi is the limited PP on Synthesis butttt...

Mega Shiftry
Ability: Chlorophyll/Early Bird/Pickpocket ----> Tough Claws
Typing: Grass/Dark

Stats:

HP: 90
Attack: 100 ----> 105 (+5)
Defense: 60 ----> 60
Special Attack: 90 ----> 140 (+50)
Special Defense: 60 ----> 60
Speed: 80 ----> 125 (+45)
Base Stat Total: 480 ----> 580 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Thunderpunch, Petal Dance

So the idea here is a mixed attacker with an ability to circumvent its otherwise mostly unboosted attack stat. With strong Leaf Blade and Sucker Punch/Knock Off with Thunderpunch to cover dark resistant fliers like Togekiss or Hawlucha (Hurricane has accuracy issues and you're not really using Icy Wind, are you?) or I guess Brick Break??? You could also use Grass Knot, but mostly if you think your opponent will have heavy mons though Petal Dance will be more consistent if you can risk the fact many 4x grass resists exist. Keep in mind, 140 SpAtk and Tough Claws with that power and maybe a Growth boost... still its grass.

You could also use a Growth set to better abuse the mixed potential. And don't consider the 140 SpAtk too much, Mega Houndoom has that, and its 75/90/90 defenses with a better defensive type outdo Shiftry. It also has better STABs probably.

Mega Ludicolo
Ability: Swift Swim/Rain Dish/Own Tempo ----> Volt Absorb
Typing: Water/Grass

Stats:

HP: 80
Attack: 70 ----> 40 (-30)
Defense: 70 ----> 120 (+50)
Special Attack: 90 ----> 100 (+10)
Special Defense: 100 ----> 150 (+50)
Speed: 70 ----> 90 (+20)
Base Stat Total: 480 ----> 580 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Shore Up, Defog

Mostly just a super tank though compared to Chansey, this thing can do some damage, as it has Scald, and can use Leech Seeds or Giga Drain to stay alive longer. It doesn't like fighting grass types however who resist its stabs and Leech Seeds.

Mega Cacturne
Ability: Chlorophyll/Early Bird/Pickpocket ----> Adaptability
Typing: Grass/Dark

Stats:

HP: 90
Attack: 115 ----> 130 (+15)
Defense: 60 ----> 60
Special Attack: 115 ----> 130 (+15)
Special Defense: 60 ----> 60
Speed: 55 ----> 125 (+70)
Base Stat Total: 575 ----> 575 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Fire Lash, Earth Power

So different from Shiftry, this thing is about its mixed set being a bit more blatant, but a bit less oomph. Although it does have more utility, as it is a fast spiker, has access to ground and fire coverage and it does get Sword Dance, which Shiftry lacks. So if you wanna SD and Suckerpunch all day, then go to town on!

To think I almost went No Guard with a mon that gets Grass Whistle and DP. Maybe...

Isn't that Earth Power?

I’ve been thinking. What should the policy be on distributing Legendary Pokemon signature moves/abilities?

Crap, I've been found out.

I think it would depend. Maybe a BST limit? Like, if your Mega exceeds 550 BST, it may not use Legendary moves.

As for the abilities, again, would depend. But unlike the move BST limit I made up, maybe just exclude certain abilities?

I mostly went with "allowed, but make sure it doesn't cause the mon to be broken" for Legendary moves/abilities.

Mega Shiftry
Ability: Chlorophyll/Early Bird/Pickpocket ----> Chlorophyll
Typing: Grass/Dark

Stats:

HP: 90

Defense: 60 ----> 80 (+20)

Special Defense: 60 ----> 80 (+20)
Speed: 80 ----> 90 (+10)
Base Stat Total: 480 ----> 580 (+100)
Movepool Additions: Power Trip, Solar Blade
Description: Shiftry's ability Chlorophyll will make this Pokemon's base speed skyrocket from base 306 to 612, which outspeeds almost all Pokemon in the metagame. This Pokemon also has multiple STAB options and has a bit of variety in its movepool. With Growth, Power Trip would be a great use in the sun. Synthesis to have more longevity, especially in the sun. It can also sweep with sun boosted Solar Blade. But there are downsides, sun isn't widespread because most of the sun setters are weak to Stealth Rock. Also, there are walls that can cripple Mega Shiftry if not careful enough, such as Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, or Mega Venusaur. It is also vulnerable to burns and haze. People can also switch out their mons to a weather setter, which it will cripple him easily.

Mega Ludicolo
Ability: Swift Swim/Rain Dish/Own Tempo ----> Repel (Flying/Bug moves against this Pokemon deal damage with a halved attacking stat.)
Typing: Water/Grass

Stats:

HP: 80
Attack: 70 ----> 60 (-10)
Defense: 70 ----> 120 (+50)
Special Attack: 90 ----> 110 (+20)
Special Defense: 100 ----> 120 (+20)
Speed: 70 ----> 90 (+20)
Base Stat Total: 480 ----> 580 (+100)
New Moves: Quiver Dance, Recover
Description: Ludicolo can be versatile, it can be a mixed wall, a physical wall, a special wallbreaker, or a tank. With its ability Repel, its weakness will be reduced to only Poison types. It can cripple physical attackers like Scizor with Scald burns, or decrease its longevity with Leech Seed. With Quiver Dance, a boost can outspeed most of the unboosted Pokemon. The downside will be Poison types and Toxic, which will decrease Ludicolo's longevity without a cleric. Also if you're using a special wallbreaker set, be aware of special walls as most special walls are water types.

Mega Sawk
Type:
Fighting
Ability: Moxie
Stats:
- HP: 75
- Atk: 125 --> 155 (+30)
- Def: 75 --> 100 (+25)
- SpA: 30 --> 20 (-10)
- SpD: 75 --> 100 (+25)
- Spe: 85 --> 115 (+30)
- BST: 465 --> 565
New Moves: Swords Dance, Extreme Speed

A late-game cleaner who's terrifyingly hard to stop once he gets going. Mega Sawk's potential as a win condition is accentuated by his access to Sturdy before mega evolving, all but guaranteeing that he'll get the opportunity to set up if you manage to keep hazards off the field. That, and Extreme Speed lets him nail faster mons and priority users.

That said, Mega Sawk does suffer from a bit of 4MSS. He needs two slots for setup (either Bulk Up or Swords Dance) and Fighting STAB, leaving him with only one slot for type coverage if he wants to use Extreme Speed. He can use two coverage moves instead, but that means sacrificing leverage against faster mons - and he doesn't have any means of boosting his speed.

Mega Throh
Type:
Fighting
Ability: Hardbody (Solid Rock/Filter clone)
Stats:
- HP: 120
- Atk: 100 -> 140 (+40)
- Def: 85 -> 125 (+40)
- SpA: 30 -> 30 (+0)
- SpD: 85 -> 125 (+40)
- Spe: 45 -> 25 (-20)
- BST: 465 -> 565
New Moves: Drain Punch, Recover

Like Mega Sawk, Mega Throh is designed to be a late-game wincon. His standard set will probably consist of Bulk Up, Recover, Drain Punch and some random coverage move, but a RestTalk set isn't out of the question. His mega form greatly boosts his survivability by upping his bulk and granting him an ability that lets him tank most super effective moves. In fact, I calced it, and a max specially defensive set can even survive a Zen Headbutt from Mega Medicham or a Psychic from Specs Tapu Lele.

But while his bulk lets him set up freely on several different OU threats (such as Ferrothorn or defensive Celesteela), he is still incredibly vulnerable to status, although using Substitute in lieu of Recover could help in that regard. Also, Toxapex completely shuts down Throh with Haze, but hey, what doesn't Toxapex completely shut down?
