In an early season of the BattleBots reboot, one of the big hitters, Team Whyachi, made a fire breathing drone as a secondary bot for Warrior Clan. (you are allowed to have multiple robots as long as you don't exceed the weight limit) Drones weren't really a thing (to my knowledge) before this, and so everyone was talking about how this could be a big thing, as since practically every single bot is on the ground, there wasn't really a way to get rid of it. Warrior Clan then went up against Hypershock. Their driver, Will Bales, wasn't one to give up so easily, so what did he do? He went to the hardware store, bought a rake for $2.99, and attached it to the self righting mechanism. (In Battlebots, if your bot is unable to move, including if it is just flipped over, you lose. Because of this, most bots will have some way to flip themselves back over, usually taking the form of an arm that can only really move back and forth) During the match, Will Bales used the rake to slap the drone out of the sky, as shown here.
This match single handedly killed the drone meta, and nowadays drones are only really tiny secondary bots that do basically nothing but try to convince the judges you did more damage. And all because of a rake.
