I still don't get the point of all this random destruction, but whatever. I can only assume I'm missing something on IRC for the most part.

forks took the final backup of the server yesterday before the move to the new host, so whatever destruction we caused made zero difference since it will all be rolled back. Once we move to the new host though, NO GRIEFING FOR YOU.

Proud to say it was my first real day on smogcraft. I spent the day making a small underground Mellon farm before returning to spawn to see if anything was going on. That's when the madness began, I recieved arm a sword and a bow and then was left against an army of ghasts, blazes and creepers. Itbwas a good first day :D

The great melon/pumpkin theft of 2012 will be under investigation once we figure out who blew up the detectives' houses.

Also attn forks and everyone: once we move to the new host I'm using the land by the gay bar / snow man / village to make a police station with a jail we can put people in for timeouts and Iron Golem cops!

Oh god, let the timeout reign begin...

Don't you think your grand plans are a little too close to spawn? I can't see why your city needs to be that close to spawn.

Why does everything need to be so far away? Spawn dosen't have to be surrounded by undeveloped land as far as the eye can see.

Also, if the Gyrados pixel art was there from before (may i note its been here for a while) why do you think you have the right to demand it to be torn down for your city, something that may interrupt spawn? IIRC, youre able to see the Gyrados from near/really close to spawn, meaning for all we know, Sytropolis could interfere greatly with spawn.

He never claimed to have the right to tear it down. However he has been searching for the owner to get permission or work out a deal, but nobody has stepped up. If it belonged to somebody they could tell him no (granted the general consensus is that pixel art sucks and needs to go), but since nobody has then he's well within his right to place an interm claim on the area until admins approve it.

How does that even work considering we have /home and /spawn?

For a second I was like "what the hell...?" then I read this thread. Makes so much more sense now...

Sweet, I'll be on a small break from smogcraft due to lackluster internet speeds... ( I think my ISP is being a douche) Probably be back in a week-ish. Standardized testing starts for me next week anyway... :/

I've been wanting to remove all pixel art near spawn anyways so I am good with that. I like spawn to be relatively nice and clean but I see the industry advancements to be interesting.

There is a command that ops have called /jail <user> <time>, it disables /home and /spawn for users who are jailed for x amount of time. You can set where the jail is, and use standard spawn protect.

What would be cooler is if it transported you to a giant corn field ala twilight zone.

We should make better use of jail. Make an arena out of it. The one who survives gets to keep the belongings in his inv. and all the loot he can get from battling other inmates.

While this is cool, I wanna point out that admins should use the command only if necessary and never for fun. I spent AGES getting my 2 Swords, my Bow and my Armor up to where it is now, and I don't wanna be forced to give it to somebody who randomly has two or three Harming II Splash Potions in his inventory when we're both sent to the jail - especially if it is for no reason.

read: As long as I don't do anything bad (griefing etc) I don't wanna be sent to jail "for lulz" and maybe lose everything I enchanted and spent so much time on.

RA, don't worry too much. I'm pretty sure our punishments won't be deathmatches. It would be another way to use the jail between two more or less consenting users.

There's no reason to have a jail for anything other than cosmetic reasons. If people grief then ban them, if they don't then just let them be. Being randomly sent to fight in arena because some admin feels like it will be very infuriating if you're in the middle of something or have valuable items in your inventory. If tennis or whoever wants to build a jail because it looks nice or just for the sake of building one fine, but this whole /jail nonsense is so unnecessary.

My first act once the jail is opened is to put RA in it for whining about it I'M KIDDING

For those that missed it we collectively raided some other servers, the defining moment was easily when HC asked to "join" a team of two guys to work together in a survival/anarchy server, then teleported both Sal and I there to wreak havok.

They started claiming Sal was a hacker, and I said I would return their stuff if they tp'd me back to their place. They did, and that time we burned it all to the ground.

Rule #1 is "don't be a jerk". Being jailed for 10 minutes for being a jerk is more fair than being banned I think...
