boy does he have a hook for me i think that is what impressed me the most, along side a 91 MPH slider and 90 mph changeup. woah.

Bryce Harper thinks he can hit a ball 600ft? Thats incredibly impressive

Cubs 9 games under .500

Fuck, Utley AND Polanco on the DL :(

Phils pull off the win anyway. Goddamn the Reds just won't go away. They need to hurry up and realize the Cards are vastly superior.

Its interesting how the Philly area has handled the major slump Phils just went through. You never got an ounce of panic here. Very Unusual.

Votto tying it up with a three-run homer with two outs in the 9th... and then Rhodes finally losing his amazing scoreless streak only to ruin it all so quickly. :( It was awesome, then heart-breaking.

"Fuck: Pedroia, Ellesbury, Martinez, Hermida, Lowell, and Beckett on the DL, with Bucholtz missing a start and a crapload of people still hurting."

Red Sox still a game out anyway.

yeah the beginning was a joke

it's because victor martinez wasn't used to the red sox pitching, but he got better

also add buchholz to that list too now

ITT: Red Sox fans lol

Unfortunately Philly's pitching staff isn't performing as well as Boston's to carry the team. Oh and we don't having anyone having the year Adrian Beltre is having on the offensive side. Actually, its ridiculous just how well Boston is performing with all those injuries and the bullpen being very suspect. Props to them. Too bad you guys just so happen to have the Yanks and Rays in your division.

Also dear god the NL is gonna get raped this year. Charlie WTF Omar Infante over JOEY FUCKING VOTTO???????????????????????????

Seriously I know you have a guy named Albert Pujols on your team but I'm pretty sure its the All-Star Game not "hmm I need a utility player and he's pretty good" Game. Same with Billy Wagner getting snubbed, the guy is still one of the most dominant relievers. Glad to see Strasburg isn't on the team though, wait a year or play the whole year like Heyward.

Here's the thing with Strasburg - a)its not his fault the Nationals didn't bring him up at the beginning of the season, b) he's proven he's already a quality pitcher and c) the fans want to see Strasburg and this is supposed to be a showcase for the fans.

However, Mat Latos comes first.

so a second base umpire can apparently tell the home plate umpire he missed a call with conclusive evidence such as: "i don't think i saw it hit the bat..." and overrule the home plate umpire's call but no one can give galarraga his perfect game?

i LOVE baseball umpiring.

(check tonight's reds/mets game)

cliff lee to texas for justin smoak + 3 others. i assume the mariners are paying the rest of lee's salary, otherwise there would be REAL problems, what with the rangers being funded currently by every other major league team.

texas has got to be top 3 in the AL now. that offense now anchored with lee in the rotation?

I'm sad to have to give up Smoak cause I think he has real potential but getting Cliff Lee for him is probably my biggest "FUCK YEA" moment since the Lakers won the 'ship :D go Texas!

And the Orioles are getting ready to sweep the Rangers!

The Cliff Lee debut was just a lucky fluke for us though I'm sure. :)

is there any franchise in baseball worse than the new york mets right now? relative to expectations, i mean. obviously baltimore, pitt, cleveland, etc are worse performance wise...but no one expected them to do anything.

the mets are run by management that openly tricks its fanbase (team affiliated sites seemed to be reporting all during may/june the mets making runs for cliff lee. lee gets traded and now its come to light that not only did the mets never seriously talk with seattle, they can't even take on payroll), management that accuses its beat writers of falsifying stories (omar minaya - adam rubin spat last year), owners that won't own up to being broke (they say that they cannot add payroll. did they forget they play in new york?), and an absolute idiot for a manager.

the mets have looked like a zombie-like team since 2007 collapse and yet their management keeps preaching that they were *this* close to winning and only 1-2 pieces away. 3 years later, and they are going down, down, down, flushing away the primes of david wright, jose reyes, and johan santana. if there's one thing the mets lead the league in, it's heartbreak, broken promises, and shattered dreams.

/end rant

Um.. Aren't the Mets only 4.5 games behind the Braves for the Division lead?

They've definitely improved from their horrid season last year but they have so much talent on the roster, it's a shame they're only a .500 club. Then again, their bullpen is still really bad.

Ew the Cubs.

5 games out and have been trending in the wrong direction for about a month.

but touche with the Cubs. at least they have new owners who are (probably) going to blow things up in the winter and make an effort. with the wilpons and minaya at the helm, the Mets will probably be linked to all sorts of free agents and ultimately do nothing during the winter. except pay oliver perez. gotta pay oliver perez.

Roy Oswalt to the Phillies is pretty much confirmed (waiting on Selig's approval of the trade). The Phillies send away JA Happ + 2 prospects and the Astros are sending $11 mil out of $23 mil on Oswalt's contract. Safe to say the unless those 2 prospects become stars (or Oswalt injures himeslf), the Astros got hosed.

Also I'd like to take this time to just laugh at Phillies GM Ruben Amaro. For a 2 time NL pennant winning team (with 1 WS), he has done such a terrible job as GM. Instead of having Cliff Lee moving forward and potentially resigning Jayson Werth, he's got Oswalt and the $125M man Ryan Howard.
