Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

mingot, has there been any research on how the RNG advances as a function of time because of NPC movements? Could be useful for RNG advancement in HGSS, where we might not have a journal to work with. Also for areas where we can't stop NPC movements.

As far as I know there has not.

It could be useful, though, but I do hate to think we're going to be timing our captures once again. Assuming that seeding has not changed :)

Hey everyone. I'm pretty new too the rng game and have a pretty good idea of how it functions. The only thing that I've really been having issues with is using rng to catch perfect pokemon. I've read it over and over, but am still lost. So after several days I've finally decided to consult the board.

Just for testing I'm trying to catch a shiny, jolly gible with 31's in all IV's.

The main part that's been confusing me is the "Selecting a spread and generating a target time" section.

My first question is about the year. Does this have to be anything specific, or is it just cosmetic like it is with hatching a perfect pokemon?

I'm also having issues with the maximum frame. I don't quite understand frames yet, so I'm not sure what to put in here. I'm guessing I could either put in 0 or 99999, but I have no clue. Input here would be really helpful.

I've done the calibration and found that my minimum and maximum delays should be around 590 to 610. From what I can tell the method I should be using is method J.

The only other thing I've been wondering about would be the monster frame.

For gible, would I just want to use the sweet scent (cave) frame or is there another one for him. I know when you check the platinum encounter table that he is on 2, 6, 8, and 10. Also when adding in the monster frame, does that guarantee that you'll find the specific pokemon in the designated area, or just give you a higher chance?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

You might not even HAVE a shiny Jolly Gible all 31s spread for your ID\SID combination.

Really, I guess that'd make sense and would be why we have the hatching for perfect pokemon section. So in that case, what would be the be the best way to find a good spread, just leave the IV's blank and search for the best one, or is there a better way to find your spreads?

Actually I think pretty much solves all of my problems except for the question about the monster frame.

What OmegaDonut said, but I would like to add:

Actually, there does not exist a Jolly spread with 31 in all IV's -- period.

And to answer the question of the best way to find your spreads: Check out Wichu's PokeRNG program, linked on the first page. It is much better than the built in searching that is included with RNG Reporter.

For the monster frame -- That will not ensure you get a Gible. If you want to make sure of that you need to use the encounter slot information. Also on the first page.

And don't double post here.

Awesome, thanks for the info Mingot. Sorry about the double post, I don't post on forums too often so I didn't realize that I'd done that.

Thanks again!

Stupid (yet slightly comical) question: Can Ninja Kids affect the RNG while they're hiding? lolz.

Edit: I just RNG abused something right next to one, so on the off chance anyone else was wondering, they don't affect it.

Just downloaded wichu's program and it is working fine, but when I check my list of spreads, it lists the seed as 00000000. Everything else shows up how it has when I've used it in the past. I tried downloading it on a second computer with the same results. What could be causing this?

So I hit my delay, but hit the wrong frame, can I figure out what frame I hit?

Just had to figure it out for myself. Figure out your initial seed and from there you can get the IVs for each frame like you did when you were figuring out your average frame initially.

BTW, just got my first RNG'ed poke!!! :naughty:

I don't know whether I should ask this question here,

I just want to ask, is there any easy way to find out what is the exact frame for timid or modest with IVs: 31/31/31/31/31/31 for POKEMON EMERALD (instead of keep generating new frame from 1m,2m,3m, and so on)?

If there is no such way to find out the exact frame for the spread that I've mentioned above, does anyone know what are the frame for those spread?

I've found some nice spread at about frame 100m++ for timid 31/28/31/31/31/31/31

Ok, so I'm trying to get a RNG abused wondercard Pkm but I can't set up the journal so that it shows the following messages:

- Opening the Journal, or having it automatically open, when there is a caught or defeated Pokémon on the first page advances the RNG by 2 seeds. There are a number of formats for the caught Pokémon text. Those listed below have been verified to advance the RNG.

'Caught a female BIDOOF.'
'Caught AZELF (LATE NIGHT).'
'UXIE was caught (DAY).'
'Defeated a male BIDOOF.'

I know that the question may sound stupid, but how do you set up the journal so that it only shows the above messages? I do aplogize if the question has already been asked, but I couldn't read over 300 pages of topic, and I'm new to this RNG abuse thing. Thanks in advance.

Change the DS date to at least 2 days forward or backwards. Make sure you catch a Pokemon/defeat many wild Pokemon before doing it so you have them recorded in the journal to boost your frames up.

Also, there is a new chaining guide that will be in the site's article library very soon.

Not at this rate. ;) loljk.

Continuing with my theme of asking potentially stupid questions, if I want to catch a pokemon at night (cougheverydusknoirvarianticangetmyhandsoncough), but don't have a target time at night, can I just do my coin flips then close my DS and come back to it in a few hours and do my journal flips, then catch my pokemon?

EDIT:

I just set the time to 3 days before my target time, catch a pokemon, then set the time forward a day, catch a pokemon, then set it to my target time and do my flips and whatnot. I find that it's best to just have "you caught a female HEATRAN" or whatever on two pages in a row, then you can just flip back and forth between them by hitting A then B over and over.

When it comes to find out which frame i am, i always have a lot of trouble.
Eventually, i get the correct spread, but it envolve long hours and a bit of guessing... I don't know if i'm doing something wrong, but most of the times i hit 1 frame higher or lower, and somehow it doesnt seem to follow the normal frame advance count...

If i change the month that i found the "calibrated frame", to find one spread, it advances the frame count?

Is there a "correct" position to save in front of the daycare man?
Or a "correct" position to place the NPC?

The frame can change based upon when you actually save. Therefore, if you change the date and resave to get rid of the journal, you can end up getting a different frame than the one you were consistently getting while calibrating. Try re-saving over and over again until you find a save point where you are getting your desired frame consistently again.

I tested HG/SS's RNG yesterday. As far as I can tell, it seeds identically to D/P/Pt (with lower delay, due to the faster title sequence). Wild Pokémon still use method 1 (or more probably J). I haven't checked whether egg PIDs use a different RNG yet.
However, with no journal or Pokétch, we'll have to find other ways to advance the RNG and check if we hit the right seed.

Sorry if this has already been asked, I have tried searching but found nothing, I'm attempting to catch a Paras in the Great Marsh zone on my Diamond game, and i was wondering if anyone knew which encounter slots the possible daily pokemon are for each zone in there. I'm using the method of elimination but with the random NPCs in each zone its taking me quite some time, any help would be appreciated

The Red Gyarados should be threaten as a legend right? Well if i will be there I will do some tests =)

And I'm also going to test it on Sudowoodo, because I have only to beat the gym and then I can catch Sudowoodo, I hope it's exact the same as DPPt

Hey guys, I have a question about the legendary birds. When I release them, I'm only going to be able to catch one with a desired spread, correct? Is there any way to re-release them to regenerate new IVs/nature etc. for the other two?

Edit: Oh, and Wichu, since I see you're on, do you know what I might be doing wrong to make the PokeRNG spit out 00000000 for every seed when I do a search? I've downloaded it onto two different computers now with the same results. I used it a few months back just fine, but deleted it and had to re-download.

It is possible to generate a good spread for all 3, it just takes some time checking each frame.

I managed to get an awesome shiny spread on my Zapdos, with desired natures and respectable spreads on the other 2.

I missed the 1st opportunity to RNG them but did it post E4, from what i understand you can release them once pre E4, then the ones you don't catch, you have the chance to re release them
