NCAA March Madness Thread

Vanderbilt had a good run last year, they either almost made the elite eight or final four, but they lost their true star Derrick Byars to the nba draft, maybe next year they'll get it together.

Now clemson just doesn't know how to win the big ones in basketball, plus that was a pretty big upset watch anyways... both of those messed up my bracket though.

also vanderbilt wins the most pathetic performance of the day. how do you get blown out by a 13 seed? as in, not even close at all? clemson had like a 20 point lead though that sucked.

the drake game was absolutely amazing, drake did everything right, that shot had absolutely no chance yet defied all laws of physics and went in, didn't see the uconn one but i hate uconn so i'm not complaining ;d

yeaaaahh davidson. and memphis had some trouble with their 16, i could see them going down soon enough. fuck arkansas i knew they were gonna win. also thanks a lot st. joe's youre useless.

upsets are happening, let's go west virginia.
 
ITT Duke lost, and my bust of Baylor over Duke no longer matters :) I am glad to see them go after they did not deserve to beat a Belmont team that outplayed them, but Duke-UNC would have been interesting later in the tournament.

duke-unc matches are overhyped and to have one later on in the tournament would be incredibly boring

At least tomorrow and in the Sweet 16, I will be able to gain some ground.

In the Smogon Pick'em, I am behind "Psycho" who will definitely fall because they picked Duke to win it all (lol). Of course, I have some crazy picks so I am not hoping for much.

In the other group that I am in, I am behind by only a couple points to a person who picked Duke to beat Xavier next round and another person who picked Pitt to beat Memphis, so I will be able to gain ground, especially if Butler makes a run to the Elite 8 (and if UNC somehow falls to the Razorbacks, then my situation improves considerably).
 
How are great rivalries ever overhyped? Why do you think I want Kansas versus UT in the championship? Kansas versus UCLA or whichever it would be (too late at night for me to bother checking brackets) is inherently less exciting.
 
I was actually hoping for a UCLA-Duke battle but bleh, no chance of that happening.

And all these 12 and 13 seeds winning are screwing over my brackets.
 
My west bracket is totally fucked over but I took some huge gambles there (hoping Georgia would keep their run alive then Purdue playing Georgia and spanking them while they were tired, etc) but Duke losing definitely helped me out some even though I picked them advancing one more round. If West Virginia can pull off a win against Xavier, my mistakes in that bracket might be a complete wash.

Michigan State looked pretty solid overall against supposedly one of the hotter teams in NCAA atm. I would have liked a lot more offensive consistency, but MSU's defense did a great job of limiting Pitt's offense to essentially one player. Suton and Lucas stepping up shows we do have some offensive depth.. now if only everyone could get rolling at the same time. The main complaint I have about this game was that the officiating was garbage for both sides. Bad foul calls on offensive and defensive sides of the ball and just random calls that apparently I didn't see.

My crazy bracket wants a Mississippi State upset over Memphis today. Let's make it happen! This is the same bracket that has me tied for 3rd in Smogon's pool and in my real life money pool..

well pitt lost and gtown lost, im at the "fuck all the higher seeds go upsets" point

This round screwed me over a lot because I didn't go with my first instinct on Villanova and Davidson, as well as the K-State-USC match.

Did you even WATCH this game? When I posted that post they were up by over 10 points! The ONLY reason that they merely 'squeaked' out a win was the whole intentional foul bullshit that ruins 80% of all NCAA games. I like close finishes as much as anyone, but intentional fouling being rewarded runs anathema to any sense of integrity in any sport. That point aside, how the fuck can you compare a game where one team was ahead by 10 points for almost the entire game to one where the score was close the entire way.

......................I'm done! I'm not even going to check the page anymore! It felt amazing yesterday and earlier today by picking West Virginia to upset Duke! Only a whopping 11% of people on Yahoo who picked the WV/Duke match-up said that WV was going to win, and I nailed it. Then, I didn't get to watch any basketball today, and I just discovered that the Hoyas are out! There goes my winner and my bracket!

I just realized how much I hate being in a group of brackets! Just look how unoriginal we picked the brackets. 22 out of 25 picked #1 seeds to win it all. That is VERY unoriginal! However, 3 picked 2 seeds to win it all, which is very cool and not even close to a cookie-cutter pick. Respect, right? Well, Duke lost, so one is gone, and Georgetown lost, so I'm gone! The other person picked Tennessee, and they barely won in overtime! Damn man, this year's tournament stinks! Damn those #1 seeds! I hate them!
 
I agree with everything Bran said, including I picked WV and Gtown screwed me over.

and georgetown was up by 17. clemson was up by 18. and guess what? they still lost. texas was up for a while, yes, but they almost choked. and I'd consider that "squeaking out a win".

and the "intentional fouling bullshit" usually makes the game less close, often a game is close the entire time then one team makes all their free throws and the other team keeps missing.

except memphis, they're the worst ft shooting team i've ever seen. they're gonna lose to texas and maybe even michigan st.
 
Well, time to bring this thread back in action. 4 basketball games come on today. Both games from the East bracket and both games from the West bracket. I'm excited about West Virgina; it's the only positive thing I have left to root for, and I hope they can win tonight against Xavier.
