Mastodon's Crack the Skye. Amazing. Every song is awesome, especially The Czar and Oblivion. Wow, I honestly haven't liked an album so much since Coheed and Cambria's Good Apollo Vol. 1 back in 2005 or so. Great stuff.

I'm still listening to Sagarmatha, it seriously gets better with every listen.

I want to get that new Decemberists album. Apparently it has prog and metal influences. And I dig that, so...

Scrambles was pretty good. Nowhere near close to Three Cheers from ASOB, and feels a little overproduced.

Strange Spring Air by Shinobu, however, is one of my all time favorite albums.

i've listened to quite a bit this year, my favorites would probably be

Thursday - Common Existence
The Appleseed Cast - Sagarmatha
A Storm Of Light / Nadja - Primitive North
Gregor Samsa - Over Air
Irepress - Sol Eye Sea I

Isis - Wavering Radiant may replace something on this, i haven't listened to it much since it only leaked a week or so ago but it's alright.

there's been more albums than i would have thought that i've liked so far, but i really can't see much coming out in the second half of the year that i'll enjoy.

Dan Deacon anyone? Bromst is his best yet imo; pretty obnoxious yet somehow pleasing. "Incorrigible" is probably the word that sums it up best.

Down With Liberty...Up With Chains from Chain and the Gang is also pretty great.

Oh and they reissued Black Monk Time for like the 4th time...but I guess there are some unreleased bonus tracks now! I suppose that's fair enough, given that this thing is probably one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Seriously if you don't know what I'm talking about you owe it to yourself to give The Monks a try.

Dan Deacon anyone?

when Bromst first came out i liked it a lot, but it just got really boring for me... it would probably be a lot more listenable if he didn't use the chipmunk vocals.

also i've never actually heard anything else by Gregor Samsa, is there anything in particular i should listen to from them?

I didn't know Thursday had a new album out. I must be the only person I know who liked War All The Time and hated City. Hopefully I'll like the new one.

I haven't been paying attention much to 2009 albums. I think I've become a bit narrow-minded about new music. I've discovered so many new bands since I was 16 that have blown my mind and totally changed my life (ugh, I sound like garden state.) and so I guess I just kind of gave up on finding anything else that could move me in that way.

I just picked up Buried Inside's Spoils of Failure on a whim.
I'm hoping it will be as perfect as Chronoclast was.
Is anybody else a fan? They don't get nearly enough credit. :(

Also, I know this isn't an 09 album but just throwing it out there:

I have been listening to Sigur Ros-Takk on repeat for 2 weeks. :]

you are definitely not the only one that liked War and hated City.

War All the Time is one of my 5 star albums. so fucking great.i've often thought about when i would stop caring about new music. when i'll look at my collection (both physical and digital) and say, "eh, that'll do".

i hope that never happens.

and i agree, Buried Inside is a very under-rated band. i still need to check out the new one though.

on another note, check out my blog (in sig) for a lot of similar stuff to them. check all the "sludge" tags. ;)

The new Buried Inside Album blew me away. It's extremely different from Chronoclast but it's still the Buried Inside I love. There isn't a mediocre track on the album.

Also, nice CTTS shirt. Faaaaave.

There is an incredibly high ratio of people that like good music to people that like bad music here. I'm pretty amazed. Especially since this is a Pokemon site. o_O

i'll hit up slsk for it tonight. ;)

and thanks, i can't wait for their new album. when i saw them last year (:pimp:) they played a new 12+ minute song that was eargasmic. i taped it...i've been meaning to upload it for months.

there does seem to be a decent amount...i wouldn't call it a "high" ratio though, considering how many people are registered here. ;)

I wasn't particularly big on Sagarmatha or the new Decemberists album upon first listen so I'm going to back to those. Same with the new MF Doom (actually, he's calling himself Doom for this one) album, Born Like This.

Dalek's Gutter Tactics is killer. I've been really enjoying that album, especially the song Street Diction.

Dan Deacon is the most annoying piece of shit I have ever heard. God damn hipsters.

also, the new Decemberists album sucked at first, then became pretty awesome for a couple of listens, then I got bored of the story and it was just okay.

uhh lets see what 2009 albums i got goin on

william elliot whitmore - animals in the dark (folk) got a nice folk country feel, and he has a great, soulful voice, if you like the singer/songwriter approach

mstrkrft - fist of god (dance/rap) honestly, wasnt really impressed, there are some good tracks (heartbreaker feat. john legend is a really fun one), but its overall underwhelming

joan of arc - flowers (experimental-ish) really good, if you dont know who joan of arc is its the reformation of cap'n jazz (so they got the cred) but sounds absolutely nothing close to emo

the antlers - hospice (indie?) probably one of my favorite albums of the year so far, awesome concept album with a lot of heart - sylvia is an amazing song you gotta hear it!!!

the lonely island - incredibad (durr) well i mean its there

animal collective - merriweather post pavilion (experimental/electronic) there aint a whole lot i can say about this album that has already been said, except that my girls is overrated! lion in a coma is better!!

the pains of being pure at heart - s/t (indie pop) what the bm said about it, its nothing special in its own right, but its just a really well done indie pop album that calls for a good listen

the broken family band - please and thank you (indie rock) a bit of an oddball album, but its good in its own right with a bit of a juvenile indie pop approach to songwriting but not the same sound

bill callahan - sometimes i wish we were an eagle (folk) interesting folk sound thats surprisingly busy for singer/songwriter, but if you know bill callahan you should know what im talking about here

n.a.s.a. - the spirit of apollo (rap) NOT WORTH MENTIONING unless you wanna hear tom waits make fart noises

crystal antlers - tentacles (indie rock) really great album, very energetic with some electronic instrumentation without sounding overly busy at all - it reminds me of dfa1979 for some reason (doesnt sound a whole lot like it though)

Holy shit, I completely forgot about Tiger Lou's new album A Partial Print. It's much darker than the last two albums, and I think overall it's stronger than The Loyal. Really awesome album, great Swedish indie rock.

Listened to the whole Neverender album by Coheed without takin' a break. Blown away. Every song is better, especially Time Consumer and the Camper Velourium trio. Good stuff!
