Trick Lead Drifblim

Drifblim @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 HP / 24 Def / 234 Spe
Nature: Timid
- Trick
- Substitute
- Calm Mind / Stockpile
- Baton Pass

This may look odd at first, but the true brilliance will soon dawn upon you. Using Trick alongside Unburden, you'll be able to lock the opposing lead into a single move, losing your Choice Scarf, and gaining, hopefully, Leftovers, or in some cases, Focus Band. Even though you gain another item, Unburden still activates, meaning you get the +50% speed the Choice Scarf gave you, yet you aren't locked into a single move.
1. Locking Aero into taunt sounds great.
2. Unburden doubles speed iirc, so even better. Although the opponent will also be faster because of the scarf.

Metagross @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/96 Atk/46 Def/116 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Meteor Mash
- Pursuit
- Hammer Arm
- Thunderpunch

I Created this set to be able to switch in and counter whatever rogue threat came in on my team such as a dragondance gyarados, With his spread he can make fighting latias much less frightening to stare into the face of draco meteor or to switch into CB Tyranitar
What would ye recommend? I just wanted something to switch in, take the hit and threaten

It successfuly beats most variants of Latias, Tyranitar, Gyarados, Lucario, Gengar and has no problem forcing scizor out

There's the ingeniousness of it, now, we go in more detail. So now what, they opponent is hopefully locked into Stealth Rock, forcing a switch, on the switch you're free to set up a Sub off of Drifblims ENORMOUS 504 HP, giving it a huge 126 HP Sub, from here, depending on what the opponent brought in, you can either pass it right away, or you can stay in, on say, a special attacker (if you're using CM) or either (if you're using Stockpile), in which case you'll use the boost up move before the attack (+50% Speed remember?), which if you're lucky, will give Driflbim enough bulk for them to not be able to break the sub, in which case you can use it again, then set up another sub and pass it on.

The EVs are meant for Drifblim to outspeed Max Speed Aerodactyl, meaning it will outspeed everything bar Ninjask without a Scarf. The rest of the EVs are dumped into HP for bigger subs, and the rest into Defense to take Bullet Punches from Metagross easier.

This is an interesting idea at first sight, but I'm not sure if Unburden activates when you use Trick and receive another item; and you have to remember that the Unburden speed boost does not count as a stat boost and cannot be baton passed.

Expert Belt Latias

380.png

Latias @ Expert Belt
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 76 Hp | 252 SpA | 180 Spd
Timid Nature

  • Recover
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Grass Knot
  • HP Fire
I have to give a lot of credit to Blue_Tornado for this set. If it wasn't for his warstory I never would have thought about using a Latias like this. Anyway, this set is used to take out Latias biggest counters. Scizor and Tyranitar.

The best thing about this set is how it attracts Scizor. Bring Latias in on something that you know will switch and fire off a Grass Knot. If you're lucky, you'll take a nice chunk out of an opposing Tyranitar. The best thing about this set is that if a Scizor switches into a GK and your opponent doesn't see LO damage, they'll automatically think Latias is choiced and proceed to Pursuit | U-turn you, while you hit them with a HP Fire. Dragon Pulse and Recover are there for STAB and recovery.

EVs are set to outspeed max speed Mixmence and hit as hard as possible with the leftovers put into Hp. A 4 Hp | 252 SpA | 252 Spd can also be used if you feel like tying with other Latias that run Hp Fire.

Unburden actually doubles your speed, so you essentially only need like 8 speed EVs with a neutral nature to outspeed Aerodactyl. However, you are tricking a scarf onto the lead ones, so in that case, you'll never outspeed them. Aerodactyl hits 591 speed with a Choice Scarf and max speed +Drifblim with Unburden will only reach 568.

Edit: Blah unless you mean outspeed Aerodactyl while you're holding a Choice Scarf. In that case you only need 176 speed EVs with a Timid nature to outspeed Aerodactyl at first.

I don't mind not outspeeding Aero after Tricking him, I just tend to like Outspeeding him while I have the scarf, even that doesn't matter *too* much, the point is to lock him into Taunt or SR, either works, one means both of us must switch, the other means I can set up a Sub and start CMing/Stockpiling.

Thanks for the EVs though, made the due corrections.

This is an interesting idea at first sight, but I'm not sure if Unburden activates when you use Trick and receive another item; and you have to remember that the Unburden speed boost does not count as a stat boost and cannot be baton passed.

I realize this, and Unburden DOES activate when you use Trick, even when I receive a new item.

I know it can not BP the speed boost. The point is to pass a bulky Sub along with SpA/SpD or Def/SpD boosts.

I've tested it, it works very well.

Did the math, correct me if I'm wrong, but I need a minimum of 212 Spe EVs on Drifblim to outspeed Aero, using the 2/3(X) +1 = (Y)

With X being Aero's Speed, and Y Being starting speed needed for Drifblim to outspeed it WITHOUT Unburden activated WITH a Scarf.

Comes out to be 2/3(394) = 262.66(repeating), rounded up to 263, then +1 to make it 264. Max speed Drifblim is 284, meaning I can take out (20x4 = 80) EVs and put them into Def.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong ^^

Edit: I realize I ****'d up the EVs, taking a second to fix it.

Math hurts my brain T_T

Edit 2: I did something wrong, I need some help on these EVs, I know I need a Speed Stat of 264 to outspeed Aero with a Scarf, and Drifblim's Max Speed (252 EVs, +Speed Nature) is 284, meaning I should be able to take out 20 speed, correct? But that equates to 80 EVs, making my speed stat 172, which for some reason doesn't add up to 264 when I redo the math.

So confused T_T

Can it really get a 2HKO on tyranitar?

Code:
Tyranitar | HP EV | None | 47.3 |
Tyranitar | HP EV | Max | 27.4 |
Tyranitar | HP EV | High (150-200) | 13.3 |
Tyranitar | HP EV | Other (4) | < 4.5
Tyranitar | SpDefense EV | None | 77.2
Since most Tyranitar run no Hp | SpD evs they should be 2HKO'd the majority of the time with SR. I'll run some calcs later today to make see if the bulkier ones are also 2HKO'd.

When you use a Positive nature, 4 EVs=1.1 Stat point on that stat, hence why your numbers seem strange.

Driftblim needs a Timid nature and 176 EVs to reach 264 speed. I think the bonus point(which he receives between 172 EVs and 176) is what is throwing you off. Just remember 80 base speed pokemon, when using a +speed nature, earn bonus points at 252-80(x). 176, 96, and 16 are all bonus points for these pokemon(and by extension all pokemon, it just works out nicely with base 80s).

Thanks! I didn't even take into account percentages, that threw me off a lot.

Was just trying to verify the number I was given.

I just tested Drifblim on Wi-Fi, and Unburden does not activate when using Trick, so that set is only usable on Shoddy Battle, until Shoddy 2 comes out where it will probably be fixed.

No love for the all purpose threat counter Metagross?:pirate:

I'm going to try it out and double check your calcs, which means yes it looks intriguing :D

Quoted this over in Research Thread just to double check on that.

UU Lead.

Glalie (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP/156 Atk/100 Def
Brave nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Explosion
- Ice Beam
- Ice Shard
- Spikes
---

An odd lead, yes, but it is the most effective I have used. It almost always puts me up 6-5, or at least 3 layers of spikes (excluding against fire types). Ice beam + Shard is unexpected from the number of Lead Yanmega it KO'es within 3 shots (Including protect). Inner focus worked well at the start of this teams life, KOing Ambipom with a max damage taken of 99.73% (No longer valid with the power of Low Kick). It can also dispense of Roserade, with Beam + Shard KOing. Uxie would either waste a turn on T-Wave, or give me a Scarf. Fire types as said before give Glalie a problem, but this can be remedied with a partner

In addition to this, I have explosion, which nets a KO at virtually every pokemon. With it, I am able to KO CHANSEY 100% of the time, if it runs Max/Max+.

I'm still using this as a lead, alongside Houndoom for Flash Fire.
Any Critique?

Sadly of all the leads you mentioned, you can win only against Uxie. Roserade and Yanmega are not UU anymore, while Ambipom has low kick. Taunt leads will always force you out and things like Regirock can OHKO you with stone edge. Fire types like Moltres and Arcanine will OHKO you with their fire moves. The set seems good on paper, but I don't think it's that useful in the current UU metagame.

Yanmega is still UU in X-Act's list. Have I missed something?

And to Dogfish44. How is that better than Cloyster? It has better defence and attack and can use the same set. So I must agree with Haunter and say that I can't see that working very well.

It is a shame that Yanmega and Roserade are out, as it has worked before, and ironically enough was my best bet against them.
As said before, I partner this up with Houndoom for Fire Types.
I'm probably going to retire this as a lead, but when it was strong it only had an issue with Blaziken (Who KO'es Houndoom)

@Ferdie See Glalies Sp D and HP, above Cloysters.
It also lures fire attacks for Houndoom, which cloyster cant.
Inner Focus usedto help me with ambipom (Ignoring Fake-out flinch) before someone made low-kick popular on ambipom.
It was a very good lead before the changover in UU/OU

See the Yanmega vote thread in Policy Review. Yanmega has been voted BL, hence it will be soon removed from the ladder.
