lol

i've hated most deathcore/melodic metalcore i've heard, but Heaven Shall Burn are actually half decent, might pick up one of their albums: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTkZt8r2lko (bonus, two of the members are wearing Bolt Thrower and Coroner shirts)

My favourite bands are:
KISS (Not Metal, but who cares)
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Steel Panther.

The last one is more for teh lols.

also some other shit i've bee listening to:
Nile - Howling of the Jinn (aooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUi9itgtF2o

Nile - Lashed to the slave stick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WySmycI3RmY

Necrophagist - Stabwound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BltsYTgU3Y

good god these guys got skills.

Imo what's stupid is death / doom metal that is all about death and darkness and bullshit like that. If it's metal, it's metal; you preferring one subgenre of metal to another doesn't take away from that.

Gotta rep for Protest the Hero. They're one of my favorite bands of all time, and I love the blend of Mathcore with Punk. It's sick. Scurrilous wasn't as good as Fortress (Which wasn't as good as Kezia but anyway), yet I still found it to be a solid album. Hair Trigger and C'est la Vie were pretty incredibly tracks. It just didn't really have the epicness I've come to expect from PTH. Still love them though, and I'm looking for similar bands.

Nightwish has also really been impressing me. I've been thinking about really getting into the symphonic metal area, but it hasn't happened yet.

Other than that, Horse the Band has been sounding really good. I haven't heard any of their new stuff, but The Mechanical Hand was pretty awesome. Production could be a lot better, but the writing was solid.

put it in the -core thread so we don't have to deal with it

that's what it was created for

and you thought that death metal would be talking about daises and how life is sooo awesome?

just so this isn't a one-liner, here's how to do DM growls and whatever. better than reading about it somewhere.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hM4KVhXV3ao

i'm not even trying to be an all elitist "GTFO WITH THAT METALCORE BULLSHIT FUCKING POSER" type dude since that's more annoying than the people posting about it, i'm just saying though that Randy Blythe doesn't have the "range" that you're saying he does and there's far better harsh vocalists out there.

but i will just say i'd sooner take advice on what to listen to from someone who listens to "death / doom metal that is all about death and darkness and bullshit like that" because most people who listen to that have been listening to metal for longer than a year or two (not that i have been really, but i'm just saying)

anyway

some of my favourite harsh vocalists:

Peter from Hypocrisy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mYXb4uiaEc
i could see why someone wouldn't like this song since it's melodeath and all but pay attention to the vocals, that's the type of sound you want to go for if you don't want to rape your throat. keep in mind he's like fucking 40 too.

Martin from Asphyx/Pestilence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuojIbv2eyA
his growls are an acquired taste but i fucking love that "dying old man" scream only he can pull off

Chris from Autopsy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPanCK-uxRU
this one is really really really a "love it or hate it" but if Autopsy had any other vocalist they wouldn't fucking slay as much as they do, i just fucking love that shit i could fucking jack off to it jesus christ

Lord Worm of Cryptopsy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1FivvPQIUY
"brutal" death metal that isn't done by wigger slam kids, with some of the most inhuman vocals ever

the dude from Meshuggah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChzWzkTwxIs
this whole "djent let's suck meshuggah's dicks" thing is fucking terrible, but i do like Meshuggah themselves, and the dude from them pulls off some of the most robotic type growls i've ever heard. makes them 10x better imo

Alright you headbanging whorebags, time for this thread to be raped with youtube links from none other than yours truly. I'm probably posting stuff that most people have heard but if you haven't, check it out.

I'mma do this shit right here alphabetically so niggas don't get confused and shit.

Bathory (Original and only true black metal band)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr-y7gzGyWw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyYnstGB3rM

The first link is the intro to the second so you have to listen to them together. Combined they are the most epic piece of music I have ever heard.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8zWVSh8kTg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqyE2cZkDzc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FuFQhpbRfw (insane vocals on this one, especially the screams over the solo)

Black Sabbath (self-explanatory? original metal band)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uZrSBEKB0I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkGZGPmOcFk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZaOmNT8iVE

Bloodbath (death)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVOsdQSKhwA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBpVrVIhE3w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n3_E1FM9pk (holy headbang batman!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=454l7cAZsHI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiX-dLh6gPQ

Burzum ("black" but really just heavy with shitty production and ridiculous vocals)

http://www.youtube.com/watch/?v=gRT4dNiHzmA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yn1-KOyEVU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AQwPnVAaYo

Celtic Frost (officially "avant garde" because of their original and unique sound but classified as black/thrash by most metal fans)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaytIdLYtPc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXfv2nJ6WT4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvPY5BH38B8

Death (...death (but prog/death later in Chuck's career))

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm9pNmBFZHw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkKOfB_g5rk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga86bR-IOPs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_kdaOSPxVs

Dream Theater (prog)

Just going to post A Change of Seasons because I think everyone already knows about DT but this song is still the shit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgKHimdfNrY

Forefather (black/thrash)

This is a song a friend of mine sent me. I haven't gotten around to checking out the rest of their stuff but this song is well worth a listen for everyone in this thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJu_JP2VNDY

Judas Priest (heavy/thrash)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWhInhE6emE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKSU1W0ZUmQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM__lPTWThU

Led Zeppelin (heavy)

To those of you who don't consider Led Zeppelin heavy metal, fuck you. Here's some songs that should shut you the fuck up. Keep in mind that while they may not be considered metal by today's standards, they certainly were back when Zeppelin were still active.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6S9oqJRclo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWUBHA2DBDA

Megadeth (thrash)

I know most people in here will have heard Megadeth and songs like Holy Wars and Hangar 18 but how many of you have listened to all of Rust in Peace? Here's 3 of the lesser-known songs that are just as good in my opinion (non-remastered, fuck that noise).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmyAvInKhuA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfEGgB9OZF8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hVqpjZ8qWM

Skipping Metallica because if you haven't heard all of their pre-Black stuff then you've been living in a cave on an island off the coast of Singapore.

Morbid Angel (death)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FOFZm5OpnQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNeJq1CzKA0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fysVEqOWa5Q

Opeth (prog/death)

Ah Opeth, the best band I have ever heard and will presumably ever hear in my entire life. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea but those who get their music generally fall in love with it. I'm going to post songs from Morningrise-Blackwater Park because that was their heyday for me. Hopefully they can rediscover their sound for the new album they recorded this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1qkBaKaV4c
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55OzEO89L70
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jecDFEfigoI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pknZHQ1Jnc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnjZj4ME2gI

Therion (symphonic metal)

I know this DEFINITELY won't be everyone's cup of tea but again, those who get the music tend to fall in love with it. For me, the combination of thrash metal with basically an orchestra is sheer brilliance.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiIuB9dZeFc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kAx9PDw9SI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JbwRDuTbF0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQcg-m6yKPA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3JJ2YsAe7I
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsEx8BLEyl4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vhlju7COSAQ

The awesome thing about Therion is that they tend play songs better live than they sound on the studio albums. Here's a couple awesome live songs from them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpLdVgCl834

Enjoy headbanging until your neck gets stiff!

Ok, I'm currently digging the fuck out Gorefest's album False that came out in 1993. I kinda picked it up on a whim, knowing they were death metal but having no clue who they were or what their sound was like. What I got was a very solid DM album that is taken to the next level by the vocals, of all things. Jan-Chris de Koeijer might be my favorite pure death metal vocalist of all time now. His voice is deep and bellowing, but never gurgles, and is always forceful and with good enunciation. Seriously he's great.

"Symphonic" Metal sounds like utter shit until you can pull out a real Symphony. Once you do that, you still need a good composer to make it not sound cheesy.

Speaking of Septic Flesh being the best Symphonic Metal band out right now. Some highlight tracks off the new album. I'd recommend it to any of you who has had a musical training/background.

Oceans of Grey - Septic Flesh

Apocalypse - Septic Flesh

2011 metal

Antediluvian - Revelations in Excrement is probably the best thing I've heard all year. It's only a three song EP but they're all killer. Can't find any youtube links but I'm sure you can find a way to listen to it.

meh, at least that new Morbid Angel song was better than the new Pestilence songs.

i was expecting something worse, considering this:

Morbid+Angel+set2.jpg

is what Vincet looks like nowadays.

bump.

new Pestilence album is out.

not gonna bother from the songs i've heard. wasn't expecting much without Van Drunen, anyway.

anyone got any recommendations for folky melodic black metal similar to rotting christ? proggy black metal is appreciated too.

later Enslaved is very proggy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3acIH2PhMe0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YU9Hg2tcNtI

personally, i far prefer their first two albums, but the stuff after that is still better than the majority of black metal i've heard.

as far as folky black metal, i'm not that experienced in it, but i know a lot of people who enjoy Agalloch enjoy Moonsorrow and Alcest.

along with Agalloch, but i already showed you them.
