the arcade fire une année sans lumière

one of the best songs on one of the best albums of the decade imo. a lot probably think the arcade fire are super overrated, made by pitchfork etc., but funeral is pretty much a masterpiece. this sounds pretty sombre but it's a pretty moving, if ominous, love song. i really, really love funeral. it's probably my favourite album ever.

'hey, my eyes are shooting sparks; mes yeux la nuit t'éclairent' is such a graceful line too. yeah i would pretty much say the arcade fire have grace.

p.s. i wonder if echo has a last.fm; his music taste is pretty sexy

Currently listening to:
Sawdust (The Whole Album) by The Killers

After darkie gave me the song Sweet Talk, I was amazed, and today I was at Best Buy and saw it, and I bought it. My favorite song so far is still Sweet Talk though. All the song rock though. It is a well done compilation.

Anathema - Anyone, Anywhere...

Just... pure love. For me this is everything I love captured in one song. I feel privileged to have heard it live as well. The lyrics deal with a depression of sorts, eternal gloominess... something that I am absolutely in love with (I don't like lyrics unless they deal with the end of the world, the end of humans, or the end of people's psyche... most of the time, anyways). The music captures everything I love too: atmospheres, great instrumental work (the piano is breathtaking, the guitars are melodic but they also are pretty powerful), a bit of a rocky climax, haunting vocals, just the complete vibe. Live it's even more powerful.

Anathema are just one of my top bands of all time and I guess they will always be.

Yeah, DistantEchoes is my user name. Prepare to be greatly disappointed.

Until Your Heart Stops by Cave In

Probably the best hardcore/alternative rock/atmospheric rock in existence. They've switched their style a couple of times and every time they've pleased me. Until Your Heart Stops is their earlier, hardcore, production and they manage to create the feeling in me that I'd love to bash my head against any given object after which catapult the given object into the nearest wall. Yes, they create angry music. Also, this piece of rage lasts for a total of 8 minutes, which is unheard of when talking about hardcore music.

9/10

Nightwish - Dead Boy's Poem

An age since I heard this song, but it's still every bit as magnificent as I remember.

"So much more I wanted to give to the ones who loved me. Time will tell this bitter farewell..."

Constructive summer - the Hold Steady
My favorite song on the album, i can relate right now because in Australia it is summer

One Last Goodbye by Anathema

So, I downloaded their latest album that came out this year, Hindsight. This shit is absolutely gorgeous. Haven't felt like this since I listened to Porcupine Tree's Lazarus for the first time. Such beautiful music. So soft and meaningful. Their melancholia is something out of this world and the acoustic guitar work is marvelous. I'm lost for words, pretty much.

10/10

Yeah... you managed to quote pretty much their best song, too.

God Is An Astronaut - Forever Lost

Post-rock that doesn't bore the utter fuck out of me.

8/10

P.S. Hindsight is an acoustic compilation of old songs... there is only one new song on it. They did take their time to reinvent it, making it worthwhile though... some of the new versions are just plain better.

PRE - Fudging On Our Folks

i feel like the music that i'm listening to lately is steadily becoming bleaker noisier and more abrasive

kill yrself kill yrself kill yrself
