Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Blue on Black

This was the first song I heard by this band, and I liked it a lot, and I think my mom got me the album that had this song on it, and I'm really glad she did, because it's a great album imo

8/10

A Perfect Circle - Imagine

Recently got into this band and Imagine is a cool song from them. Doesn't compare to Judith, but the calmness and lyrics are what make this song outstanding.

Also, some of you need to put more effort into your posts. "this song rules" doesn't constitute a song review. I will continue to delete the posts that don't follow the thread rules.

some of you guys really need to read this :/

Minus the Bear - Absinthe Party at the Fly Honey Warehouse

For around a minute the song builds up with a catchy bass tune, then Jake Snider comes in and delivers what I believe is one of the best singing performances in his career. As usual, the lyrics are about partying, partying, partying, yet remain excellent. The song pretty much explodes during the chorus, with all of the instruments going wild and a huge amount of sound at once. It's a fun song to listen to, and the build up at the beginning is the only thing I dislike about it, even though it seems necessary.

9/10

Ladytron - Commodore Rock

This song really appeals to me, it starts off with an awesome guitar and electronica mix, and since the one of the two vocalists is Bulgarian, she gets this cute russian accent, which improves the song a lot. Great electronica on the chorus too.

8.5/10

God is An Astronaut - Fire Flies and Empty Skies

God, I love this song. Four minutes of lush, instrumental bliss. Starts nice and slow, builds into an amazing climax and ends the way it started.

10/10

Bloc Party - Pioneers

This song is one of my favourites from their first album "Silent Alarm". As ever with a Bloc Party song you can expect some crazy drumming and nice little bass riffs. It builds up gradually towards the end of the song and unleashes a great final verse. 9/10 :D

Test Icicles - Catch It

Shame these guys broke up, despite the dodgy name they are one of my favourites. This song is great, especially the lyrics 'Bitches don't know me, bitches dont own me'. Screaming verses thrown in for good measure aswell. 8/10

A Perfect Circle - Gravity

Easily the most stunning song on the album Thirteenth Step. I noticed from the album review elsewhere on the site that a lot of this album was disliked because it wasn't the dark metal found on their prior album Mer De Noms. But this song epitomises why this isn't a bad thing. The entire album's mood is amalgamated into one song, containing the atmospheric backdrop of songs such as The Noose, a little bit of classic metal akin to Weak and Powerless and the strong bass that also drives songs like The Package.

In short, if you had to judge the album by a single song, this would be the one you definitely shouldn't miss.

Ladytron - White Light Generator

Aside from a great name, it's also a great song, the echoing and smooth lyrics throughout the song are a great factor that make this song awesome, the rhythm that accompanies them is also spectacular, probably the most passionate song from Witching Hour, listening to this song actually makes me shiver, it's just that spectacular. Ladytron really do make the best electronica songs...

That's older than my country

That's one of my favorite fucking lines EVER. Snider's lyrics are truly unparalleled in today's music. That song makes me want to travel to Europe... and then never come home again.

Black Sabbath - Warning

This song was originally written by Aynsley Dunbar, and has a very bluesy feel to it. Black Sabbath picked up the song and recorded it with one moderately long guitar solo and one guitar solo that is almost 6 minutes long, making this a fairly long showcase of Tony Iommi's guitar work, and one of his best tracks in my opinion.

9/10

The Offspring -- "Beheaded"

This song makes me smile every time I hear it; gory, quality lyrics combine with fairly generic rock music to make an above-average song. Worth a listen if you don't have to go completely out of your way to find it.

6.5/10

Enigma - Gravity Of Love

Great vocals, great lyrics, great rhythm, what's not to adore about this. I'm really into Enigma lately. The Screen Behind The Mirror is being my favorite album so far.

10/10

winner's album

Piana - Something Is Lost

Sweet, melodic song by electronic japanese artist Naoko Sasaki, aka Piana. The track itself focuses on her ethereal voice rather than the experimental sounds that haunt the rest of the album.

Liars - The Wrong Coat For You Mt. Heart Attack

Aaaah, I love the Liars, and Drum's Not Dead is one of my favorite albums. So creepy and atmospheric, and this song is hugely indicative of that. Somehow they can take such simple music (drum heavy, really understated and basic guitar chords, maybe a few bells), lay some vocals over it, and end up with this incredibly rich and dense sounding song that can send shivers up and down your spine.

The album as a whole is also a win because it's a thematic album, telling a story from beginning to end, which is always something I enjoy when done well.

XXX/10, because I hate rating numerically.

Minus The Bear have like so many of those kind of lines that get stuck in your head and force you to hum them while you're driving/working. God, almost makes me want to stop listening to them, but then again, not.

Paul Oakenfold - Ready, Steady, Go

Just because I watched Collateral the other day I had to listen to this song. It's already cool enough to see Oakenfold in the soundtrack of a good movie, but when they included this song in a part where the main characters where in a huge club, it's even cooler.

The song itself is pretty basic, like most trance songs, but it has quite a catchy tune and reminds me of something like the James Bond -theme - don't know why though. If you're trying to get into trance, start with names like Oakenfold.

7.5/10

Nightwish - Come Cover Me

Basic Nightwish midtempo song. Earlier style, power metally, melodic, wispy vocals from Tarja and a really sweet chorus. If you didn't know better, you could play this and your mum would like it, it's that harmless. :)

Hey Typhon our avatars are similar!

NP - Kyuss - Discography

This is going to be a good couple of hours.

infinite awesomeness/10

Unwed Sailor - The House of Hopes.... Dreams.... And Wishes.....

This album is NOWHERE near as good as my favorite, The Faithful Anchor, but this is a very good song off of it. Unwed Sailor is one of the best pioneers of this instrumental rock sound, a la Mogwai.

I'm listening to anything Malajube, a French Canadian band. They're great - insufferably charismatic, with several different sounds (and altogether nonsensical lyrics when you get a look at them, but meaningful when needed). Meshing a synth-y sound like the killers with keyboard or piano and fairly accomplished guitarists, Malajube specializes in emphatic, moving tunes like

Malajube - Le Métronome

Starts off unassumingly with several shouting sequences mixed with light guitars and a quick percussion part (LOL, cowbell included). It then launches into its chorus gleefully proclaims their defiance of "Le Métronome", monotony and uniformity (though doing so in a fresh, uniquely French way) to a thickly layered synth and guitar section, later coming back around for an enchanting guitar solo featuring a thrashing Julien Mineau. The video is also quite amusing, whereby the dancing band is duct-taped up on a wall and continue to play.

Sadly enough, this track is virtually unique in Malajube's repertoire, but there are plenty of other treats to find, like

Malajube - Montréal -40C

A catchy love song to Montréal, the band's home, this song features Pierre LaPointe who sings the chorus the second time through. The band uses vocal percussion several times through the piece - "papapapadapada"s punctuate several verses and the song subsists on this artificial beat through some sections before exploding in energy and high-pitched proclamations of love throughout. The final section is the only part of the song that leaves something to be desired, the beat, having become minor, is repeated several times until a strong, roving shouting section kicks in featuring several of the band members, and the song ends with a few choice words and a dancing skeleton (in the video).

This is really long, but Malajube needs to be heard!

Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Immortal classic heavy metal song. Nice chugging riffs, easy but great solos, only downside are Ozzy's vocals. Oh well, I guess his voice was shot back then already.
