np: OU Suspect Testing Round 5 - Sandstorm (Excadrill/Thundurus Banned)

i think scarf rotom w, in my opinion it does the job a lot better than thundurus. It gets everything thundurus gets i believe except grass knot but you can run hp grass.

But I had just made a porygon 2 set to beat thundurus. You gave him enough special attack to ohko with icebeam, and the rest into special defense and hp. You sent him on thundurus, traced the prankster, thunder waved him, so you could out speed, then kill with ice beam.

Now that Excadrill is banned, I guess it's pretty obvious that the Suspect Test process aims to ban every single suspect. That shit went without a single majority for like 4 times in a row, but it got nominated again and again until people banned it. Wow.

Why do people keep saying this? Losing Swift Swimmers, Blaziken, and Garchomp are significant changes that were previously confounding variables in the broken-ness of Excadrill.

For example, if Dragonite was a suspect 5 rounds in a row, and then we banned Stealth Rock, does the metagame not change drastically enough to reconsider the uber qualities of Dragonite? The same thing happened to Excadrill, just to a smaller degree.

Drill banned? You mean the same Drill who's like the most checked thing in the metagame?

What is this game coming to?

Edit: lol at ss and blaziken being banned meaning anything. That shit was so long ago.

Chomp on the other hand made Drill better, not worse. Chomp simply existing gave Air Balloon Drill purpose for free set up fodder against Chomp

Now that Excadrill's been banned, I hope scarfers and pokes like Jolteon, Weavile and Sceptile become more popular. It'd certainly shake up the metagame a bit, and give offensive teams a lot more variety now they can afford to run a fast pokemon instead of an Excadrill check. RETURN OF SCARF HEATRAN. lol

And I AM glad that Excadrill has been banned. Sure, it has checks and maybe a few counters, but if you don't have something on your team that can specifically beat Excadrill or counter weather support, you're going to get 100% swept. It was either all or nothing with that guy. Many offensive threats like Latios, Scizor and Rotom-W can be played around even if you've not added anything specifically to deal with them; not so with Excadrill in Sand.

I just got on and - wooooooooooooooot!!!
I'm thrilled with the results xD

Hopefully new Pokemon will be given the chance to prosper, now that the abomination which was Excadrill is no longer there to wreck havoc on the OU Metagame.

Did you even read the post I quoted? They were saying Excadrill hadn't been banned for the past four rounds. Swift Swim, Manaphy, and Blaziken were pokemon that ended up banned in those past four rounds that checked/overcame Excadrill and reduced his broken-ness.

And Air Balloon Excadrill was not going to OHKO a full health Garchomp with a +2 Earthquake. Especially if it misses.

Don't you mean the same Pokemon who's the most used physical wall in the game, who has unsurpassed importance in its ability to wall so goddamn many things?

Edit geeze I post slow

Also you're spewing BS if you don't think even Jolly Drill can KO chomp at +2. You would need retarded amounts of defensive investment to live it.

no surprise in excadrill, being OU tested so many times, its end would eventually come, but thunderus was a bit of a surprise, its soo pathetically frail, and easily reveneged kill with choice scarf, not to mention using life orb rapes your health bar

I think this is pretty hilarious, it just makes my current stall team even better, I might cry. The only thing I am worried about is a slight rise in Latios useage because sand is a bit weaker and people use less tyranitar, so then of course that means more Latios. But with a little team tinckering I should be fine.

I wouldn't be so sure, Whynaut. Latios's usage may rise, but SS will still probably be fairly common. Although losing Exca was a big blow, SS still has stuff like Landorus, Terrakion, and even Stoutland. (lol) Plus, some people may just use TTar just because TTar is so good.

Thundurus ban doesn't surprise me one bit. Despite being up against what could normally check it, it could disable it with priority Thunder Wave thanks to Prankster, so something else could get through it. It functioned too well as both a sweeper and a support role.

Choice Scarf Garchomp was the only reliable check to Thundurus before Garchomp got banned.

there were defensive chomp sets
i used one
and it was hillarious to toxic peoples checks
if fully invested chomp is basically a swampert
complete with a x4 weakness

I fucking love this new meta. My HO offensive team is suddenly viable again. I don't know why everyone is theroymonning about sun shooting through the roof, because so far I've only faced an astounding ONE in the ~ 10 battles I had.

A few things that I've noted though:

- There's a small rise in balanced and stall team.
- Sand teams have dramataclly dropped in usage. (most likely due to adjusting)
- I haven't seen many rain teams yet.
- CB and CS Ttars have been popping up all over the place.
- There's been a surge in offensive Gliscor.
- Lucario is a legitimate threat that can destroy teams now.

Well that's all I have, best get back to laddering. Anyone else want to include their observations? PS: Less theroymonning, more getting your asses out there and reporting first hand experiences.

Question: Zapdos was sent to UU because Thundurus outclassed it. Now that Thundurus is banned, what are the chances of Zapdos becoming OU again?

And dragonite stays in OU by a superminority. I guess people agree with me when the say Dragonite is annoying but annoying does not mean broken.

Predictions for the OU metagame: Sand is SEVERELY weakened to the point where it likely wont even be anti meta. Sandslash will roar in the OU metagame as a viable Excadrill replacement only without the speed, attack, bulk, and typing. Also, because it lost a viable check in sands weakening state, rain will become more popular while sand loses ground. Sun teams will also make a comeback as having some of the fastest pokemon under weather in the OU metagame gives it a distinct advantage from the other weather.

What? Zapdos was at best a surprise sweeper at best, its main job is as a wall, Thundurus was is real sweeper. But with Excadrill gone, one may theory mon that Zapdos useage may rise (+2 rock slide hurts), high enough to be OU? Only time will tell.

@Kurashi: bulk? Sandslash is more bulky then excadrill

I think this just made one or two my teams even better at sweeping. Ironically, I'm not liking that. I didn't think Excaldrill would be banned. It wasn't much of a threat tbh.

As for Thundurus, I saw it coming.
