Parts 1-3
Parts 4-6
Part 7: What'z u batin' average?
After victory at my first gym, the whole team looks better. A little bit of confidence goes a long way I guess. So, after healing up at the Pokecenter, we head out towards Mt. Moon.
First, however, we get stopped by this guy in a white coat. He says that he's Oak's assistant, and gives me running shoes. "Finally! These clunkers I've got on were killing me." He didn't hear the exclamation of course, because he had to book it back to the lab. Funny how he didn't pass me on the way, but I guess he showed up while I was battling Brock. So, with the ability to run, I get a move on.
Several insecure trainers later (seriously, you're a girl, you WILL get looked at) and My pokemon are flying high. No problems with poison so far, and everyone's going down relatively easy. One of the trainers was carrying a bat, and asked me what my batting average was, I told him I had no clue, as it had been several years since I played baseball. I had to leave before I could get into a game, however, because Scortch seemed to believe that the bat was a torch...
We continued down our road, with the sun blazing before us. Scortch chased a few bunnies around, but I was surprised to note he didn't attack them like he did other pokemon. I guess pokemon don't treat wild animals like other pokemon. I thought about it for a little bit, and decided to ask Oak next time I saw him, so we pressed forward.
"Now let's see, the new pokemon harvesting laws say one per route, but I haven't caught any from here yet. Let's see what we can find." I barely finnish musing to myself when a Spearow pops out of hiding. "Hmm, no replacement to AirAce, but we could always use some more power." Scortch caried out my orders, and I KNOW he didn't hit any harder than he had to, but unfortunately that was enough. No Spearow for me.
I decide to try again in Mt. Moon, and there run across a Zubat. This time things go much better, and
Dracula joins the team! I now stop and think about continuing. I am not daunted by caves, in fact, spelunking is one of my favorite pass-times, and I would never need to worry about light with Charmeleon around; however, looking at my team, most of all Dracula, they all need a little power boost.
We begin our training regime again, and promptly my pokemon respond to the training. Except Dracula. I had to switch him out constantly, for fear of being KOd and not doing enough damage. He seemed like he couldn't see what he was doing, and I almost left him behind: when suddenly, in a battle against a jiglypuff, he knew exactly what he was doing. He let out a sonic screach, which I could barely hear, that drove the jiglypuff mad. I checked my pokedex and learned that Dracula had used Supersonic! With this new tool, he quickly caught up with the others, and I decided we were ready for Mt. Moon.
(note, all LV 15 at this point)
Part 8: the first taste of evil
Heading in, I notice several girls that seem to be lost. After being forced to battle by them, they complain about their predicament. I offered to help them out(I mean seriously, the entrance's only a quarter of a mile away), but they stubornly say that they'd rather die then let a boy with braces save them. "Whatever," I reply, and move deeper into the cave.
The path is rather un-eventful, having some battles with hikers and a crazy scientist, however, that is short-lived. I soon come across the creep dressed in black. "Hey You!" he shouts, "Get out of here. Team Rocket has buisness here tonight."
"Surely they can put up with a teenager," I reply, fairly ticked off at his attitude. He seems outraged, and throws out his pokemon. I let Scortch take him on, and there was absolutely no problem. I made sure Scortch wasn't too hard on his pokemon, for fear they would end up like POWDER. He did everything as best he could, and it seemed like the first one was reviving as we walked away, so I was satisfied.
On the other hand, however, I was quite disturbed. This man had made Ian look like a loving father... What is this team Rocket anyway? I seem to remeber something from my life before being in this world, but it's slowly fading away. "It doesn't matter," I say to myself, " whoever they are, if they all act like that then they are unacceptable!"
I had the missfortune of running into a few more Rocket goons, who fall swiftly before my growing wrath. I continue, marveling at the rock formations and wild pokemon. Suddenly I notice some strange rocks, and move forward to attempt to examine them, however, before I get there this scientist comes forward and screams, "BACK AWAY!!! THEY'RE MINE!!!" He then engages me in a pokemon battle, and finds that poison has no effect on Dracula. After knocking his last pokemon out, or rather watching it knock itself out in confusion, I claim the Helix fossil and he takes the Dome fossil. The rest of Mt. Moon passes without incident.
Part 9: FEAR, in more ways than one
While I do love spelunking, the rays of the falling sun feel good to my cold hands. It looks like Scortch also likes the change, as he promptly lays back in enjoyment. I let the whole team out for a bit of relaxation, but we are soon on our way again, as I want to reach Cerulean City before dark. I think about attempting a capture in the patch of grass nearbye, and give it a go. Another Spearow shows up, at which point I have indecision about catching it. I already have two flying types already, why do I need another one, but in the end
Flapper joined the team.
I continue fighting wild pokemon there, strengthening AirAce as we go, when all of a sudden a briliant light blinds me. I panic for a moment, but then remember Scortch evolving. That must be what's happening now, so I close my eyes and wait for the light to go away. When my eyes re-ajust, Pidgeotto is staring at itself, and I call, " AirAce," to make sure that it is indeed my precious pokemon. AirAce comes flying straight towards me, and stops itself with precision. I'm impressed, and glad to have my pokemon become stronger. I begin to think that nothing can beat us
However, I notice that the Gym's typing is Water, which sends a shock down my spine. I check my team, though I know them by heart, and find what I knew I would. No resists, so I would have to rely on Dracula's recently attained Bite move to take them down, but that didn't give me much confidence, so I decide to try to find a bellsprout, which I'm told live in route 24.
I start heading north, and promptly see a figure running towards me. I stop just incase he can't see me, but he stops in time. "Hey squirt, finally got here did ya?" Ian's anoyying voice broke the silence like a dying rabbit. "Well, I've caught myself some good pokemon. Let's see about you!" And with that we plunge into battle. Dracula is out in front, battling his Pidgeotto. After some bites and a Supersonic, I pull Dracula back, seeing that he wasn't being effective, and send out my own Pidgeotto.
"Well, at least I know you're working on them," comes Ian's mocking voice, which quickly turns into a gasp as my Pidgeotto Quick Attacks his to the point of fainting. He sends out ratata, into which JackieChan gladly switches. After laying some karate basics on the rat, out comes an Abra. I had to check my Pokedex for this one, I couldn't remember what it was. I smile as I see that the only move it knows right now is teleport, which is useless in battle, though useful outside of it, hmm... I might want one of those myself. Oh well, In comes Zubat who mops the floor with abra, and now it's down to his Squirtle. The only pokemon I have that's still at full health, due to this battle or prior training, is Chomper, so he comes out to take on Squirtle. At first we look even, everything going well.
But a crit in his favor turns that around, and I see that I will lose Ratata if he doesn't KO Squirtle next turn. I start to call him back, but then he turns and looks at me. There was no fear in his eyes, and he gives me a look that said clear as day, "Don't you dare." I back off, and then tell him to Hyper Fang. I know that he isn't completely accurate with this move, but I also know that it's the only way we'll win. Chomper does what he was named after, and hangs on for quite some time. I was on the verge of calling him off when he stopped. I saw squirtle still stood, and covered my eyes. I didn't want to see what was about to happen. I waited for the sound of ratata being blown backwards, but it never came. Risking a peak, I see squirtle, cowing and flinching in fear. Suddenly I have hope. "Quick Attack while it's still flinching Chomper!!" Chomper was clearly just waiting for the order, and gladly rammed into the squirtle, knocking it out and securing victory!
Part 10a: The Torrential gym, preperations
I couldn't believe that Chomper had pulled that out of his belt, and treated him to an exsuisite(or as fancy as you could get there) dinner, after healing him of course. We celebrated the victory all night, but when morning came, I had different things on my mind. It had been that hard to take down a water type, and we're about to go up against one. How in the world will we be able to pull this one out? I mull over this question as we wander around the city. I head north again, wondering if there's another route on the other side of the bridge. I am met by six trainers, actios for a battle. One after the other they have their butts handed to them by Dracula, Chomper, and JackieChan. I haven't used Flapper yet, because I haven't had the time to mass train him to my standards yet. The final trainer acts mysterious, handing me my prize, and then beconing me over to the side.
"How would you like to join Team Rocket, a criminal group that steals other people's pokemon." The very sound of the invitation disgusted me, and I lept back at the words. "Obviously you need some encouraging," He said, and we proceeded to battle. To be perfectly honest, he was a joke, and my guys had no problem finnishing him off. he tells me I'd be great for team Rocket, but mearly smirk and turn my back.
I then check the grass by the bridge, hoping for an answer to my water problem, and lo and behold, BELLSPROUT! I was overjoyed at the sight of a grass type, and nicknamed her
Victoria. My worries were now releived, and I promptly took to training my pokemon. I wanted to traing Victoria first, but I reminded myself that I had promised Dracula to give it some more power first. Dracula took eargerly to the training, and learned a new move called Wing Attack. I now had no problems taking on the plant and bug infestation that covered the area, and his power rose quickly. Suddenly the light came again. This time I was expecting it, though that made it no less blinding. I look up, and Golbat(or so my pokedex tells me) is flying in front of me. As I go to train the rest of my team, I feel more confident than ever. Let's see just how well you'll do Misty!
