Official MLB 2012 Season Thread

I know! I tried to start a conversation about it two pages page to no avail. I guess no one cares too much about it...

Probably because it's not football or basketball where guys jump straight into the team. Even Stephen Strasburg, the most star ready prospect ever, still took a year to get to the majors. Baseball prospects have a high bust rate, and thus, are less interesting to most fans. But that's what I like about it; there's more of a thought process determining which guys you can put your coins on.

It will be really interesting to see what teams, especially those with extra picks, will do given the new CBA. I want to see where Giolito ends up. He's a massive wild card because of his health, and it will be harder to lure him away from UCLA because the bonus you give him won't change his life (he comes from a wealthy family). I could see the Cubs, Pirates, Jays, Cardinals or out of the first five rounds altogether.

What's your favorite team? Who do you want them to realistically end up with? As a DBacks fan I have this massive affinity towards Corey Seager (Kyle's younger brother). They spoiled me to hell last year with Trevor Bauer and hope they'll do it again.

Dusty Baker is one of the worst managers in baseball. WHY does he not play Todd Frazier, Chris Heidegger, and Ryan Hanigan pretty much ever day?

Instead he plays trash like Ryan Ludwick and Wilson Valdez. I can at least understand why he starts Mssoraco because hes a very promising rookie but my god his lineup choices are pure idiocy sometimes. Lets not forget Mike Castanzo, Baker's favorite pinch hitter who's hitting under .100. Are you fucking serious?

Rollins+Cruz for Beltre+Wainwright? O.o who on earth would do that?!

I just got Trout, Jeter, and Johan Santana in a points keeper league for Freese, Ervin Santana, and Madison Bumgarner. Did I win or lose?

My logic is that I got a definite keeper and the #1 prospect in baseball and Jeter obviously and a great pitcher for two SP's having very down years and an injury prone, inconsistent player at a position I already have decently covered with Middlebrooks and Kyle Seager

since when is being 7-2 with a 2.1 era having a down year

ok ok sorry 6-4 with a 3.00 era and 1.08 whip. my bad

Boras and signability mucking up the draft :D teams going for high upside over sure thing mostly, fun to see.

I'm expecting teams like the Jays to go for the all or nothing high upside first round pick (Giolito) and possibly another + talent high school player, and then slowing down spending dramatically in the sandwich round. I'm under the impression they'll take a fine to get a better quality draft.

Why do the Rangers just occasionally get their asses raped by mediocre teams?

Pretty sure those are the days that Wash shows up stoned...

EDIT: WHY THE FUCK ARE WE SENDING BARD DOWN TO THE MOTHER FUCKING MINOR LEAGUES???

Edit 2: Oh... I get it now. Dice-K is ready, and Bard's getting re-converted to the bullpen...

Thinking Dice-K will have a real good rebound year. He showed some flashes of brilliance the last few seasons along with some moments of pure shit. With Bobby V having managed in Japan, speaking their language and understanding their style of play, I'm thinking that he'll have some success. Pitch count won't be as much of a factor with BV as it was with Tito, and his off day routine will probably be specialized just for him.

Best case is that he'll pitch well enough enough so that we can flip him for a good pitching prospect at the deadline. :D

Wow, I'm really excited about this clash between the AL East and the NL East - right now, there isn't much doubt in my mind that these are the best divisions in their respective leagues. It's gonna be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Harper's first game ever at Fenway and he strikes out, doubles, and then hits a two run homer to the 420 marker in center field. Fenway Park was cheering afterwards. Awesome.

And Strasburg just struck out Big Papi. Incredible.

Also, there are people wearing Nats gear in Fenway. Unbelievable.

Strasburg finished with 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 13 K. And at one point struck out either 7/8 or 8/9 What an absolute monster.

Yeah, uh fuck the Nats. Let's talk real baseball.

It's fucking sad that no one commented on this until now. None of you saw it? This is fucking unbelievable. How could none of you see it? Fuck you guys for going to bed.

So, let me set the stage on what happened. The fucking Mariners were plying the fucking Dodgers. You're thinking game over right from the get go. But no. Here comes fucking Kevin Milwood bowlig through with a no hitter through six. But the fucker get injured on the mound and they are taking him out while he's throwing a fucking no hitter. So what does the bullpen do? Fucking Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League and Tom Wilhelmsen keep the no hitter. And the game ended 1-0 with Seattle winning. The M's didn't even fucking score until the fucking 7th inning, so these guys didn't have the pressure of keeping the fucking no hitter going, they had to fucking try and not lose the game.

The fuck. Best non-Red Sox, non-playoff game I ever watched in my entire fucking life. I love interleague. None of you better post that Dee Gordon was safe and that it was a fluke.

Ima post my celebration post in the morning. Got to get some sleep.

Nats going for the sweep against Boston today. Nattitude in Fenway.

Nats pick up the sweep and the legend of Bryce Harper continues to grow. Pinch hits in the 9th and gets walked. Then scores the go ahead run from first on a Bernadina double (ended up being a triple because of the throw home). Amazing.

None of you better post that Dee Gordon was safe and that it was a fluke.

So that's two no hitters that have been awarded this year because of umpire incompetence, and a perfect game that was taken off the books last year for the same reason. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET SOME MOTHERFUCKING INSTANT REPLAY IN BASEBALL? It's ridiculous that every fan in the stadium and at home knows that the call is wrong within 20 seconds of the play happening, but the umpires can't and won't do anything to fix it. It pisses me off knowing that baseball could be so much better but they refuse to...for what? pride?

Is this what you want baseball to be like?

^ I don't think anyone expects computers to call balls and strikes any time in the near future. I'm talking about basic calls like "was it a foul ball?" or "was the runner out?". You know, things that are completely objective no matter who is involved. For example, the strike zone grows and shrinks depending on the height of the player, their stance, etc, things that would be annoying to measure with a computer. But deciding whether the ball was on the line or not...could be easily done in less time than it takes most pitchers to circle the mound between tosses.

@tennisace: Can you either explain what "expanded" means or link to the article please? Ugh why do we have to wait an entire year for something they could implement tonight :(
