Official(!) Smogon University PO Stats -- September 2011

This is freaking hilarious.

I rewrote my scripts as I said I was going to and did the analysis on the logs of all the battles held on 10/22--these are the top 30 sweepers and stallers of OU, where I sweepers are ranked by avg. number of kills per battle in which it appears, and stallers are ranked by avg. number of turns out per battle in which it appears.

Keep in mind, this is OU.

When I implement this for real, I'll probably enforce a cutoff of, let's say, 1000 appearances.

I posted this mainly for the lulz.
 
That actually doesn't surprise me at all. Although its usage is low, the combo of sun, Swords Dance, and amazing STAB, pseudo-Earthquake.... the list goes on. Plus, it's not really prepared for. The surprise factor really works here. Go Sawsbuck!

Move stats, perhaps? The pokemon that are most likely to carry, say, stealth rock, relative to total number of uses

you could do the same for items, too (which pokes are you most likely to see scarfed?)
 
ok, probably the biggest surprise to me is the fact that weatherless teams are in fact the most popular type by a small margin, that and less than 1 in 10 people are using sun, which got the smallest amount of nerfs after the latest round of suspect testing. Still, the fact that almost half of the OU teams out there are weather shows its dominance in the metagame is just going to stay.
 
To prevent Dugtrio from eliminating it. You'd be surprised how well Dugtrio works on sun (and to a lesser extent rain) teams, especially an evil Choice Band variant.

You know, just for consistancy, we should use like the standard deviation or something, 2 deviations maybe? Honestly, I don't know, I am not that far in my math class yet and only know the theory behind it.

would it be possible to implement a rating-based cutoff instead / as well? this seems more useful imo - perhaps one where at least one battler is >1K or both are >800.

Yeah, this was dumb of me. Standard deviation is kind of an obvious solution. Then I implement a std. dev-related cutoff rather than a usage one.

I'll do a separate run for what I call "1337" stats (for obvious reasons). It's almost certainly true that pokes at the tops of the usage get their metrics dragged down by people "using them wrong."
 
Would love to see the metagame analysis stats for more than a day's worth of logs.

From innocent criminal's stats, if they're even somewhat representative of the whole month, 51.7% being weatherless and 67.5% being balanced is a testament to the health of the metagame, and a direct slap in the face to the people who ignorantly say weather is making BW OU less "fun."

Love it, hope these keep coming.

This is wrong. Sawsbuck hitting No. 1 on *both* counts should have raised a bigger red flag.

To account for the fact that Sawsbuck (and others) have multiple formes, my script has to sum the stats of the individual formes. I summed the ratios, not the raw data. So Sawsbuck actually only had a kills/battle ratio of about 0.7. Glad I discovered this before I did this for a full month's stats (although, with the server down, who KNOWS when I'll be able to do that!).

Haxorus is the king of sweepers, Dusclops is the king of stall. Note that the Turns/battle column now has standard deviation. Can't do it for the KO column, though, due to how I record KOs (this is something I'll probably change).

Edit: new version handles std. dev for KOs, too. The deviation for KOs is HUGE, almost always exceeding the actual average. For instance, Haxorus's KOs/battle ratio is 1.04±1.14, which indicates, basically, that Haxorus either gets two KOs in a battle or zero. Hopefully, more data will mean better results. I suspect, however, that these rankings are going to continue to be garbage until I look at "1337" stats.

Can you generate another version of 1337 stats that counts teams that beat those with X rating or above? You should probably lower the threshold, because it's a lot more limiting than all battles with teams that have a rating of 1337 or above. I feel these stats would be a lot more interesting.
