Philly was a bust. The whole operation was done ass-backwards. From the tiny screens displaying the tiny text to a hoard of people trying to see if they got called to the fact they turned away WAY more than half of the people who showed up. How did they not anticipate such a crowd? Someone on this forum did it with a simple math equation looking at population density.

Brutal.

That's not even all. Nerd city. Holy crap, by the time I left if one more creepo was creeping on one of my conversations waiting to make some snarky remark I was going to suplex them. I did meet a handful of cool people, though. Got some battles in before I bolted.

I wonder if anyone saw me. I was with a couple guys who kept starting random chants, one of them dressed like a half-assed Ash. We were pretty obnoxious.

Even as late as the top 32 there were things like bubblebeam Empoleon, thunderbolt Rhyperior, Lv.39 Leafeon, Arial Ace/Blizzard Articuno, Dream Eater Spiritomb, and multiple Fly Salamences. What's even more sad is that a lot of those actually made top 16 x_x

That just breaks my heart into little pieces.

Your friends were annoying. You were too if you were chanting :P I wanted to stab you all with the stylus I found on the floor.

Were you the group who started the Krabby chant before the numbers came out?

Did you meet the big group of Smogoners, BB? It was so noisy that I didn't catch everyone's names.
I seen one person with the smogon shirt on but I didn't know where anyone else was. I was the tall kid with the brown polo :)

And I was 227, Skarmory and #226 got in >.> I was so upset lol.

I kind of want to protest or get a big group of people to convince nintendo into having a NYC tourny.

And I could only imagine how many Noobs there were, this kind of makes me REALLY pissed how experienced players didn't even get a chance

Every battle I saw on one of those big TVs was a version of the Garchomp w/ Discharge strategy. Looking across 4 TVs, I saw 6 Garchomps. Popular approach, huh? I didn't notice any of the piece o' crap teams BlueCookies mentioned, but I also moved away from the screens before too long.

Yeah, when people say no smogoner got in, they mean it. There was a big group of 10 or so of us and none of us were selected. None of the top 8 players from NY last year were selected to even try a repeat performance. I did get a few pictures with Marilland, and this should make zerowing more jealous, but he even signed(gasp!) my German Koffing TCG card("Smogon"). The people who got in though were god awful. Even as late as the top 32 there were things like bubblebeam Empoleon, thunderbolt Rhyperior, Lv.39 Leafeon, Arial Ace/Blizzard Articuno, Dream Eater Spiritomb, and multiple Fly Salamences. I know how Vash placed, but I don't want to spoil it for him, so I won't say how he did :p

If it's like that, then I can only assume he got first, unless he fought someone who knew what they were doing in the finals and their team countered his.

But that situation is just horrible. Something about that really needs to change next year. Maybe have more than one New England regional, and bring back pre-tournament tests or something. The fact that people like that made it that far while people who were obviously better didn't even get to play is a mockery of the whole point of these tournaments.

It'd be awesome if they had matches to get in to the actual competition/ tornument. So there'd be no more random picking like this gay crap.

Yeah it was, I was in line and I seen someone who tried to act like they were all that talking to my father (Who has no clue how to play). So I look over at her sign-up sheet (Team) and she has a lv. 47 Torterra and like 48 Gengar. I'm like wow you are basically wasting a spot for someone to get an opportunity to play.

Really, the way Nintendo had setup Journey Across America was the best way in my opinion. They had about 50 locations and a great setup.

Didn't they have quizes last year?

They should've had one this year with the following:

What is EV training?
What do IVs stand for?
What natures are +speed?

Haha that 1k would probably be like halved.

Also: Vash has mutton chops. He isn't allowed to represent Smogon imo.
And what's that supposed to mean? Half of the people here don't like me anyway. I didn't go to represent Smogon, I went to represent Haku, who couldn't make it himself due to family reasons. I tild him I would make it to the finals for him, and I did.

I ranked second. I'll post the battle video later. Or maybe not at all because of people like TTS who didn't even bother to say hi <_<

I got to meet with a few of the Smogon people, but regretably it wasn't for too long. I went to get Fries because I had to take my medicine, and it was like everybody disappeared! 0)0

EDIT:
BlueCookies seemed pretty cool, wish I got to play him. I met a few others, but I forgot who they were. My memory is horrible -_-; But regardless... Me, Bulldozer, and PokEthan got it. And then Bulldozer and his parents LEFT ME THERE for some fucked up reason, so I didn't have a way to get home. But I'm here now, thanks, to Etan's (The winners) father. I had a great time playing, I was like dancing and shit the entire time I was there. I even got to jam with the Pokemon for a bit. Fun stuff.

OH GOD, if we could convince TPC to consider this... it would mean a world of difference. Maybe have some sort of expert division. They'll probably never understand our plight, though.

What the fuck have I done?

hey Vash, congrats on second! hopefully you'll post the video because I want to watch it.

lol zerowing, you've started a huge trend, I see those leads on NBS a lot now. Probably everybody in StL will have Garchomp + Zapdos leads. x)

Psst, I'm just poking fun at your Wolverine inspired hair choice, Vash =P Also, I shook your hand. I think that's above saying hi :P I was wearing the black/yellow Smogon shirt and the JAA medal.

I know BlueCookies, but prior to Phoenix, no one was using it, then I use it and it takes off, everyone and their mother is using my exact team or some variation of it.

Mamoswine > Garchomp. :D

Anyway... This is what I won. :)
  • A guaranteed competitor slot to compete at the Pokémon Video Game National Championships in St. Louis, Missouri on June 27th and 28th, 2009
  • Airfare and 4 day/3 night hotel accommodations for the winner and one guest to attend the Pokémon Video Game National Championships
@ Pablo, BlueCookies, Zerowing, and some others: I'll post the battle vid over at Skarm in a few minutes, but don't bring it over here yet. I'm gonna warstory it and blah blah all that stuff.
