One more question: Would I simply not be allowed to use my US version of Pokémon Diamond? I imported and use this save file for everything.

I do have a EUR version of Diamond too though, so it's not much fuss if I can't use the US copy, since I can just trade everything over. I'd imagine that they just mean an English language version though as there's hardly any difference.

You wouldn't be allowed to use a U.S. copy because of (1)Regional differences and random stuff being changed between the versions or (2)By importing a U.S. version, you aren't supporting the U.K. economy

When are the applications for this due? Also, do people plan on breeding or trading for their teams? Can any veterans answer the second question please?

(1) We do not know when online registration will begin, and as far as we know the only "application" we know of is the team information sheet. The information sheet should be brought with you when you go to your nearby qualifier
(2) Well, I'm not a veteran but I'll try to answer this. If you trade for pokemon, they is a high chance it is hacked, as many people on the internet use cheats such as fast hatch and iv check on their AR. Supposedly PUI has updated their hack checks and can now find if these hacks are used on them. I'd suggest using pokemon you bred in either an unhacked gba game, or in Platinum, as your D/P will most likely have a hacked pokemon in it. I personally am breeding/catching all my pokemon in my Emerald (and my friend's Emerald for Latios) except for Cresselia, which I am getting in Platinum.

Ok, shoot because my team is ready, but it is from people on this forum. I think the worst code that they said was used for all of them was Iv Check and Cloning. Does that effect pokemon in any ways?

From what I've been told, IV Check only reads data and does not alter data. Cloning is a picture perfect data clone, so they all are legit, depending on who you ask. For your purposes, your pokemon are unaffected.

Do Europeans really need to use North American Platinum? That really cuts the participant base to "dedicated" players (though technically that increases odds of getting in); I just can't imagine many 12 and under having Platinum and whatnot. Of course European Platinum comes out like, ~10 days before the tourney, which isn't much time to prepare. It doesn't affect me, I just don't like the blindsided rule (the date should be pushed back a bit or something to amend it).

Anyhow, as for locations, damn. The only way I could get to any of them is by taking a vacation there (not out of the question entirely though). Of course, with only 128 participants and the fact that I've never done doubles means I'll need a lot more incentive than just playing to hit up any event (like other users showing up), as it'd be a chunk of money down the drain otherwise.

Do hotels allow this kind of thing? Booking one room and having maybe 3-4 people stay there for a fixed price? Or would we have to pay for each person seperately even if we order one room?

Assuming they're similar to American hotels, they'll only charge you for the rooms you wanna rent, meaning the price won't go up from one room if you all crash there. If the price does go up, it'll be as a group, not individually-priced (either way it should be affordable).

European's use Diamond and Pearl for the tournaments in May / June. But I'm guessing we'll have to use Platinum at the finals in America. Platinum comes out here May 22nd, but I'm also going to assume that many finalists (or at least two) will get a copy of Pokémon Platinum as a prize in order to ensure their eligibility to play at the finals in August.

Really? Why? To participate in all of them?
Yep. i will be playing in all of them.
If any of my team win a trip, they play in the next one to be a Plow.
(Say i win seattle, and in san francisco i play someone from my team, i concede and give him the win as i already have the trip, and he still needs one. the trend continues for the rest of them.)

It would suck if the same one person wins multiple regionals. it does not say in the rules you cannot win more than one, and it does not say the invites pass down. it would just mean more open spots for randoms ome nationals.

Urgent Update: I will attend Phoenix.

My brother and my friend from school have decided to take a flight there for the weekend of the Phoenix tournament. Expect us to be there.

And anybody down to stick around that weekend for a Padres-DBacks game is more than welcome. We're gonna stay for the weekend since my friend wants to see a Padres game in Arizona the Monday after the event.

The only way they could do this is by checking an other thing in the save than the Pokémon themselves.

I reckon I could get a hotel room for roughly £40~ for the one night I'd need, and if I can travel with friends (which is likely) that cost will be cut rather easily. Do hotels allow this kind of thing? Booking one room and having maybe 3-4 people stay there for a fixed price? Or would we have to pay for each person seperately even if we order one room? I've never booked anything like this on my own before.
I suppose they'll ask you to take a 3-4 person chamber.

Last time I was in London I slept in a crappy hotel (Acacia Hotel or something like that).
It wasn't comfortable at all, but the price was very low (12 £)... For a single person obviously.

Maybe I'll do the London tournament too, I'm not sure yet, that would annoy me a lot if I'm not randomly selected, but it's been a while since last time I went to England, so...

I got in contact with Pokemon, or rather the people holding the tournaments because I was concerned about the ability to bring 6 Pokemon. It is going to be a 2 Vs 2 style, with only 4 total Pokemon from your team able to battle. Essentially, you can bring six Pokemon/ items in case you want to switch in between battles.

And I'm really not minding the locations of the regionals. ( Not just because there is one 4 hours north of me =p) It really gives everyone around the US a chance to eventually make it to a tournament.

---Edit---
Expect me in Seattle ;)

So, who's going to the phoenix one? you can expect to see me there! although i wont have a way of showing who i am, i will just look for PBB or someone lol.

I'm headin to the phoenix one, I went to Pokemon Rocks when it came around 4 years ago and finally they are coming back to do something here

coughmeberlincough...probably

anyway, I know of a few (or more than few) people who will be there as well, it will be nice to meet them again...the ones I know are the best competitive german players so it will be fun and intense
