Offline Battle Tower teams

In order to get 100 consecutive wins in the BT (Battle Tower), I must create a team that can do it for me quick and easy. I really can't decide on who should be my starter but this is my team so far:
dpmfa392.png

Infernape @ Focus Sash
Naive, 126 Atk/128 SpA/252 Spd
-Flamethrower
-Grass Knot
-Close Combat
-Nasty Plot/Stone Edge/U-Turn

This thing can kill a lot of things by itself. Focus Sash allows it to survive attacks from Quick Clawers. Think those EVs are good enough?
And I'm really not sure on the last slot. I can use Nasty Plot because I can survive one attack from Focus Sash, Stone Edge can be used to take out fliers, or I can give it U-Turn to hit psychics and switch to my Starmie or Metagross. I think I'll go with Nasty Plot

dpmfa121.png

Starmie @ Expert Belt
Timid, 6 HP/252 SpA/252 Spd
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Psychic

Should this be my starter? Anyway...
This thing is really good and can OKHO most Pokemon. I could also go Modest for max power but I need Timid to outspeed things.

dpmfa376.png

Metagross @ Choice Band
Adamant, 252 HP/232 Atk/16 Def/8 Spd (too lazy to change the EVs)
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Explosion
-Thunderpunch/Bullet Punch

CB Metagross really helps finish things off with Explosion. This is used for my wifi battles so I am too lazy to change the EVs, they're OK anyway.
I don't know whether to give it Thunderpunch or Bullet Punch for the last slot. Thunderpunch can hit Gyarados, but Bullet Punch helps with finishing speedy things off that are at low HP.
Thinking about punches, I could even replace Explosion with Ice Punch for type coverage, what do you think of that?

We're currently trying out a team very similar to Jumpman16** and Nemesis whom both got to 105 wins with starmie, tyranitar & garchomp and so far we've gotten to 70 wins which beats my previous record. I'll list their movesets later on, hopefully we can get to 100 wins and achieve that in both diamond & pearl versions to earn that extra star.

My team got me to 105 only to die at 106

Forretress@Life Orb
Relaxed
-Gyro Ball
-Explosion
-Earthquake
-Stealth Rock

Simple lead sets up SR and explodes. Walls weavile leads like a bitch. I love it because sturdy negates all those shitty OHKO moves that Hax so much in the battle tower. Life orb is for the OHKO on cresselia who the rest of my team doesn't like.

Salamence@Choice Specs
Modest
-Draco Meteor
-Dragon Pulse
-Flamethrower
-Hydro Pump

Generally comes in after forretress explosion. Draco Meteors for the kill then switches to....

Snorlax@Chesto Berry
-Curse
-Body Slam
-Rest
-Crunch

Capable of sweeping teams by itself. He is my safe switch in on ice beams and flamethrowes that would be directed at Salamence or Forretress respectively (Thick Fat A Go Go). His only purpose is to sit in front of special attacks and set up for a sweep. Chesto Rest is for status/healing
and crunch is for ghosts.

I don't think this is a very good team per se, but it has served me well so far. It really hates special Tyranitar who is only taken on by my Snorlax. Dark Pulse flinchax is what ultimately did this team in. I do like it because it makes most matches go by quickly rather than be reduced to PP stalling the opponent for a win.

Update: after reviewing a few that have successfully made it to 105 wins with starmie, tyranitar & garchomp, I decided to give them a try and have now successfully made it to 105 wins in my pearl version though my son did most the work from trainers #57 through #101.

1. Starmie, modest, natural cure @ expert belt
IV: ~20/~28/~16/31/~26/31
EV: 6 HP, 252 sp.atk/speed
- surf
- ice beam
- thunderbolt
- psychic

2. tyranitar, adamant, female @ lum berry
IV: 31/31/~16/~10/~20/31
EV: 86 HP, 252 attack, 172 speed
- dragon dance
- taunt
- crunch
- earthquake

3. garchomp, jolly, male @ choice band
IV: 28/31/29/19/31/31
EV: 16 HP, 252 attack, 240 speed
- outrage
- earthquake
- crunch
- stone edge

According to my son, this team rocked. Only troubles I noticed though succeeded against included trick-room/gyroball bronzong and alakazam to name a few. Now to get gold trophy in my son's diamond version.

thats a team that I treid yesterday, actually, and it only got me to battle 26, before an EQing, Megahorning Life Orbed Heracross raped my team. my Latios could not kill it with Dragon Pulse, it now goes down to about 30%, then it killes Latios with Megahorn. I send out t-tar, it Megahorns me, i die. i send out Metagross, my Meteor Mash misses(=O) and I die to EQ.

Would Latios, Tyranitar and Metagross make a good team?

its a nice combination in general, i'm using a very similar team (Infernape, Latios, Metagross) in Wi-Fi Battle Tower and seeing a fair deal of success. putting Infernape in there over Tyranitar takes out your Bug weakness, and gives you a reliable lead as well.

Yes a mixed Infernape, latios and metagross does do well. I was only using Tyranitar to take care of Focus Sashers and Focus Banders with Sandstream but I think Metagross can do that with Bullet Punch.

Also what should be the set for latios?

as long as you're asking about the Battle Tower team (and you mentioned problems with Focus Sashers) here's what i've been running with much success at WiFi Battle Tower:

Infernape @Focus Sash
Mach Punch
Close Combat
Flamethrower
Grass Knot

Metagross @Choice Band
Meteor Mash
Earthquake
Bullet Punch
ThunderPunch

Latios @Leftovers
Calm Mind
Dragon Pulse
Thunderbolt
Surf

but namely this thread should be for successful OFFLINE Battle Tower Teams, so lets try not to clutter it with outsider info. in general, Online teams should work fine offline as well.

My most succsessful 47 Battle win streak team. I lost one round before facing Palmer a second time to a Double Team/Sheer Cold/Rest/Sleep Talk @ Lefties Glalie somehow. The next time I lost in the same round to a Focus Sash Mismagius.

Gengar @ Wide Lens (Jazz)
Timid / Levitate
~Hypnosis
~Thunderbolt
~Shadow Ball
~Focus Blast
In most of my earlier battles, I slept everything in sight, and simply slugged away with the approriate special attack. I was a little more cautios to use Hypnosis in the later rounds due accuracy.

Gyarados @ Life Orb (Jetstorm)
Adamant / Intimidate
~Dragon Dance
~Aqua Tail
~Earthquake
~Ice Fang
This really wasn't too reliable. Infact, I'm never using this in the Battle Tower again due to the high amount of Focus Sash Tbolt carriers.

Blissey @ Leftovers (Starscream)
Bold / Natural Cure
~Seismic Toss
~Ice Beam
~Softboiled
~Toxic
I messed around with its moveset quite a bit. In fear of Palmers Recover Milotic I ditched Ice Beam for Toxic ... although it never Recovered once. After losing to a DD altaria w/ Rest, I later switched Ice Beam inplace of a little used Aromatherapy. This is incredibly boring, but it was really quite effective.

Surprise Focus Sashers seem to be the number one problem. Luck Based moves are a close second.

I've tried to topple the battle tower many times, and the best I ever got to was 44. But, this was in doubles, with a singles team. O-o;

Here's what my team was:

Gengar @ Expert Belt
Modest with standard EVs
Hypnosis
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast

Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Adamant with standard EVs
Focus Punch
Substitute
Leech Seed
Spore

Kingdra @ Choice Scarf
Sniper, modest, standard EVs
Surf
Dragon Pulse
Draco Meteor
Ice Beam

Regice @ Leftovers
Calm, 252 defense and HP
Tbolt
Ice Beam
Toxic
Substitute

I honestly have no idea why this worked so well, especially in doubles. Weird thing is, this was entirely composed of Pokemon from my original team (which sucked).

I'm currently screwing around with a shiny team, that has worked well so far.
121.png

Shiny Timid Starmie/Natural Cure @ Expert Belt
25-26/14-15/26-27/31/22-23/31
6 HP/252Sp.atk/speed
-Surf
-TBolt
-Ice Beam
-Rapid Spin (might change it, too lazy lol)
376.png

Shiny Adamant Metagross @ CB
29/30/27/28/29/31
250 hp / 252 atk / 8 spd
-Meteor Mash
-EQ
-Explosion
-Agility (again, needs filled, too lazy)

373-m.png

Shiny Adamant DDMence @ Leftovers
31 / 31 / 23 / 15 / 18 / 31
120 hp/252 attack/136 speed ev's
-DD
-Dragon Claw
-EQ
-Flamethrower

I really don't see what the point of Rapid Spin is. There's 10 Stealth Rock users in the whole of Battle Tower, and another eight or so that use a combination of Spikes and Toxic Spikes. It's hardly a threat compared to some of the other things you'll see. You'd be better off with Psychic or possibly even Flash Cannon.

yeah, I was going to replace it with psychic, I've just been lazy :X and i need to replace agility with bullet punch on metagross
and of course, none of these are iv'ed for the battle tower, they are iv'ed and trained as competitive pokemon

This is the team I used today, it was on a rampage, until a Cradiliy with Double Team, Toxic, Ingrain and Stockpile ruined the fun. I died around battle #55

dpmfa466.png

Electivire @ Expert Belt
Adamant, 4HP/252Atk/252Spd
-Cross Chop
-EQ
-Ice Punch
-ThunderPunch

My lead, hits 13/17 types for SE damage. He is capable of sweeping entire teams. He just doesn't like the Water/Ground combination.

dpmfa248.png

Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
Adamant, 76HP/252Atk/180Spd
-EQ
-Rock Slide
-Crunch
-Dragon Dance

My Tyranitar, I saw that Jumpman used a Lum Berry, so I decided I would give it a try. It was needed only once, against that f:(cking Cradily. (Wich ruined my fun, like I told before.) It gives Garchomp a nice boost, and flinching is always nice.

dpmfa445.png

Garchomp @ Choice Band
Jolly, 4HP/252Atk/252Spd
-EQ
-Crunch/Aerial Ace
-Fire Fang
-Outrage

His IV's suck, but his STAB'ed CB'ed Outrage still does a lot of damage, most of the time, it does enough damage to KO my foe's Pokémon. Also, Outrage is the move I use the most, I believe I used EQ ONCE, and Fire Fang some more times. I might change Crunch with Aerial Ace, since I have loads and loads of TM's and Heart Scales (if I want Crunch back), and I HATE Double Team, and all my opponent's LOVE it.

Well, I hope my advices are helpfull to you. Don't doubt about teaching your Pokémon Aerial Ace, just do it! (Maybe I should start using Machamp with No Guard.)

I got to 64 with this team, twice. Earthquake decided to start missing...

Gengar @ Focus Sash
Levitate
Timid
252 special att. 252 speed
-Shadow Ball
-Thunderbolt
-Energy Ball
-Destiny Bond
My lead. Normally took out 2 pokemon. If he didn't it was at least a one for one tradeoff...

Metagross @ Lum Berry
Clear Body
Adamant
252 attack, others scattered
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Thunderpunch
-Bulletpunch
Pretty good. All his IV's are 30-31, except for sp. def which is 0...

Salamence @ Life Orb
Intimidate
Jolly
252 attack, 252 speed
-Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Brick Break
-Flamethrower
All good. This guy and Metagross tried to handle whatever Gengar couldn't take down.

Each time I lost at 64 wins, each time against Alakazam. It must have had Brightpowder, because on the first loss, Earthquake missed twice. The NEXT time through, it missed twice, and Alakazam "avoided" it once. No Double Teams either time. My DS was THIS close to being thrown into the wall...
For my next BT run, I'm gonna use Gengar, then decide between my salamence or starmie/forretress/blissey/slaking, all which are about halfway done being bred and leveled.

What do you think a mixed attacking Infernape holding a Focus Sash should outspeed in the battle tower? I was thinking of giving this EV spread:
138 Atk/140 SpA/232 Spd

I would just like to confirm if it hasnt been already, Light Ball does not work in the battle tower.

If you have a pikachu, you may kick it now. It has failed yet again.

Completed Battle 71:(Singles)
Heracross @Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Swarm
EVs: Atk 252/Speed 252/HP 6
-Close Combat
-Megahorn
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake
Lead with heracross and switch to milotic if fire is coming or tyranitar if you see a psychic/flying that you can't outspeed and OHKO.

Tyranitar @lum berry
Nature: adamant
EVs: 44HP/252Atk/44Def/172Speed
-Dragon Dance
-Crunch
-Stone Edge
-Earthquake

Milotic @leftovers
Nature: Bold
EVs: 84 HP/252 Def/12 Speed/106 Sp.Atk/56 Sp.Def
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Hypnosis
-Recover
This team lost to a team of both Infernape and Blaziken. It suffers from the fast fighting/fire type weakness. However, this team is a direct counter to Palmer's first and second round teams and you should have no problem taking them down when you reach them. Also expect the unexpected in the battle tower, I came across a DDLapras that got a surprise KO on me and effectively destroyed my team:
Lapras @lum berry
-Dragon Dance
-Confuse Ray
-Body Slam
-Waterfall

I'm enjoying every read in this thread. I'll have to get a Team of mine up soon. One that consisits of Swampert, Weavile and Chomp in a clean up team with SR support :D
