Offline Battle Tower teams

I've completed battle 42 up to now and still going strong, using this team but I think I'll be switching to Starmie/Tyranitar/Garchomp soon since it seems to be working. Then I'll have some fun after I've done 105 Straight.

Salamence@ Wise Glasses
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Speed
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower
- Hydro Pump

Gyarados@ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 132 Atk / 126 Speed
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Taunt

Electivire@ Expert Belt
Trait: Motor Drive
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Speed
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Cross Chop
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch
- ThunderPunch

I got hax'd out at 62 w/ a Critical Hit from a Magmortar's Flare Blitz on Blissey, though I'm already back up to level 77 with little/no effort. Everything would be easier if my Starmie had Natural Cure, but breeding it w/ perfect speed and special attack is the sacrifice =/
Garchomp @ Life Orb
Jolly - 252 Attack/Speed, 6 HP
Outrage
Dragon Claw
Crunch
Earthquake

Starmie @ Choice Specs
Timid - 252 Sp. Attack/Speed, 6 HP
Grass Knot
Surf
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt

Blissey @ Leftovers
<Plust's Blissey w/ Ice Beam instead of Counter>

Blissey is the best post-double-death switch most of the time. If I'd switched to Blissey instead of Starmie on floor 62, I'd probably still be going strong right now (I'd at least have a revengekill Surf for Magmortar, the last opposing Poke). Blissey is clutch for stalling out Double Team hax guys, which seem to be a recurring theme on the early 40 floors (one team had ludicolo w/ Toxic, DT, Leech Seed, and Sub @ Lefties in addition to Vileplume w/ Toxic, DT, Leech Seed, Giga Drain @ Black Sludge). Aside from avoiding guys that have Ice Beam, Garchomp is awesome at softening up the opposing forces. With Life Orb, two attacks at or greater than base 150, even most walls don't stand up after one or two hits. Starmie makes a great special sweeper and revenge killer for Garchomp.

The team is occasionally weak to Quick Claw hax and my game seems to love dishing out double 100% accurate OHKO moves. My team does stall warring very well, as does it do beatdown just as well. I'm curious what waits after level 60, but there isn't much that really takes the team down as I usually don't have an opponent alive long enough to threaten me.

Win Streak: 76

Starmie @ Choice Specs
6 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

Metagross ** Overdrive @ Choice Band
252 HP / 252 Atk / 6 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt (Well I didn't have an elemental punch so I used this)
- Explosion
- Earthquake

Garchomp (M) @ Life Orb
252 Atk / 252 Speed / 6 Def
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Claw ( I ditched Dragon Rush since it keeped missing for me ._. )
- Earthquake
- Fire Fang
- Swords Dance

This team lost to a Choice Scarf Machamp using Dynamic Punch... My Starmie keeped hurting it's self and I lost. I also learned that after 50 battles Trainers teams start using legends like Lati@s as their whole team. I also hate switching on Heracross.

Staraptor @ Life Orb
252 Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
Jolly
-Close Combat
-Brave Bird
-Return
-U-Turn

Goes for the quick OHKO with one of the three powerhouse moves. U-Turns from crap it can't handle.

Suicune @ Leftovers
252 Def / 240 HP / 16 SAtk
Bold
-Surf
-Calm Mind
-Roar
-Rest

Standard CMCune, saved my ass tons of times.

Azelf @ Wise Glasses
Timid
252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
-Nasty Plot
-Flamethrower
-Grass Knot
-Psychic

Probably would have worked better with a sash. Other than that, normal sweeping whore.

Lost at 49. I was playing really recklessly and both my sweepers died, leaving me in a CM faceoff against Cressy with me at 40% health.

Win Streak: 52

Gyarados @ Lum Berry
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpAtk)
EVs: 76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 Spd
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Waterfall
- Ice Fang

DD --> Sweep for most of the battles. Ate a few Swaggers, but Lum Berry didn't do as much as I'd hoped.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Modest Nature (+SpAtk, -Atk)
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Haze

Surprisingly good considering its decidedly average moveset. Haze helped a lot, as did resisting three of the OHKO attacks.

Blissey @ Leftovers
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 148 HP / 252 Def / 108 SpDef
- Thunder Wave
- Aromatherapy
- Seismic Toss
- Softboiled

I couldn't deal with Weavile, basically. It got a critical hit with Brick Break but I was dying slowly any way. So now I'm trying to build a team that's not Weavile weak. Starmie / Tyranitar / Garchomp doesn't fit the bill, sadly. >_>

I used;

Rampardos @ Choice Band
Head Smash
Earthquake
Brick Break
Pursuit (Not used much)

Awesome lead. Jolly max speed outspeeds quite a bit from experience, and headsmash KOs, if not severely damages. Earthquake with mold breaker is rape also, and single-handedly beat Tuckers round 2 team (Cress couldnt levitate). Brick Break is useful for stuff that uses screens, but is rarely used.

Empoleon @ Leftovers
Hydro Pump
Ice Beam
Toxic
Stealth Rock/Grass Knot/Protect

Awesome wall, steel types have great resists, and it also covers my final team member well. Hydro Pump since it needs a little oomph, Toxic is a general good status that goes well with Empoleons sturdiness. The final move is usually Stealth Rock since residual damage is fun with Toxic. It also helps against Focus Sashers.

Dragonite @ Persim Berry
Outrage
Dragon Dance
Flamethrower
Earthquake

Utter rape. Annihalates after a Dragon Dance, with SR down it also rips through Focus Sashers. Flamethrower and Quake for Steels, though rarely used.

This got me to round 92 iirc, where I was beaten by a brightpowder Starmie I think, surfed ramp, bolted empoleon and beamed Draggy. May replace Band with Scarf on Rampardos for this reason.

Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 132 Def / 252 Spd / 126 Sp.Def
- Thunder Wave
- Air Slash
- Aura Sphere
- Wish

Paralyses then Wishes and switches out. Provides good support but needs Air Slash/Aura Sphere as attacks when its the last man standing.

Latios @ Expert Belt
Nature: Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
EVs: 6 Def / 252 Spd / 252 Sp.Atk
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Earthquake

I still cant believe Phione is banned but Latios isn't. This setup is based on the Starmie standard but with a usable Earthquake type coverage is greater and Magnezone is countered.

Metagross @ Muscle Band
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -Sp.Atk)
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
- Bullet Punch
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Thunderpunch

Metagross seems to be on 90% of all Battle Tower teams. I don't use Explosion as its often my last pokemon alive otherwise this seems to be the standard.

Metagross and Latios' resist many of eachothers weaknesses and with 84 not out this team has taken me a long way.

Well, got a little further now, died at battle 87

Starmie@Life Orb
Modest Nature
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
-Surf
-T-bolt
-Ice Beam
-Recover

Recover to bump of the orb scratches. I kill things with this.

Blissey@Leftovers
Bold Nature
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SAtk
-Softboiled
-Charge Beam
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast

Well isn't this unexpected? Since Well, one of my pokemon already has Natural Cure, I decided the heck with Aromatherapy and Natural Cure and went with serene grace. I used Charge Beam to increase my special attack. Shadow Ball + Focus Blast for type coverage. This is my Sweeper/Wall :D

Salamence@Choice Band
Naive Nature
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 SAtk
-Dragon Claw
-Earthquake
-Aeriel Ace
-Fire Blast

Basic CB-er and I prefer Bandmence to Specsmence :D

Starmies weakeness: Electric(Blissey), Ghost(Blissey), Dark(Blissey), Grass(Blissey)

Salamence weaknesses: Ice(Blissey, starmie), Dragon(Blissey), Rock(Currently what flaws me).

Blisseys Weakness: Fighting(Salamence, Starmie)

Well... The bracketed pokes covers my poke's weaknesses.

Currently going strong at lv 77 w/ the team posted above. At least 3 teams I faced from lv. 62 on had 3x Earthquake Weak pokes. Heatran, Ninetails, and Manectric seem to be on every other team. A team of Heatran, Moltres, and Entei made me lul.

A few months ago I got to 48 when I got screwed by a Brightpowdor Dragonite that CHed my CBDragonite. I've been IV training since then for a better Dragonite and another Mixed Lucario.

Staraptor@Shell Bell
Adamant 4 Hp/252 Atk/252 Spd
Brave Bird
Return
Close Combat
U-Turn

This thing gets so many kills it's ridiculous. Maybe I miscalculated or something, but after an Intimidate it survives regular Weavie's Ice Punch. I actually just went around catching Starly and ended up with a 31/31 one. Now I'm playing in Fire Red for a Double Edge Dodrio to breed with it.

Gengar@Wise Glasses
Timid 4 HP/252 Spd/252 SpA
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Energy Ball
Focus Blast

I swear on this thing. I just wish that Focus Blast hit a little more.

Dragonite@Choice Band
Dragon Claw
EarthQuake
OutRage
Fire Blast

Fire Blast was Focus Punch but they never switched often enough for me to use it.

Simply put, Weavile weak. Weavile led and I lucked out when it didn't OHKO Staraptor, only to get raped by something else. I need to get that damn Dodrio into Diamond.

Is anybody else struggling in the rounds 36-42? The same team that recently got my pearl game up to 105 wins has been having trouble just getting up to 42 wins in diamond. Last time I made it to 42 wins which ended up contributing to 105 wins one of the matches had my final pokemon down to 13 hp left and it could've ended either way that time had quick claw lickilicky had activated again.

I think that part of the tower is just a rotting cesspool of hax. My entire team got swept there by a double team/rest/sleep talk/sheer cold Lapras (that survived a freakin' choice band Slaking Giga Impact...)

I tried a newer team, and it did, not to my surprise, very well.

Ninetales @ Wide Lens
Timid
Fire Blast
Hypnosis
Energy Ball
Nasty Plot

Magnezone @ Life Orb
Mild
Explosion
Thunderbolt
HP Ice
Thunder Wave

Swellow @ Burn Orb
Jolly

Facade
Brave Bird
Protect
U-Turn

Ended up dying on battle *81* No hax really, just an annoying Metagross on that battle.

Oh well

I've made a new team that looks pretty good on paper:

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Stone Edge
Taunt

My starter. I got tired of all the double team spammers/ cm cresselia on Palmer's team, so I went with taunt instead of another attacking move.

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Fire Blast
Dragon Pulse
Earth Power
Filler (currently Iron Head)

I really detest using the choice items in the battle tower, but I really needed the speed here, and I couldn't rely on, lol, Quick Claw to outspeed things.

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Swords Dance
Dragon Claw
Earthquake
Fire Fang

Standard Blah Blah Blah. Cleans up things Blah Blah Blah.

This team is awesome cause they cover up each others weaknesses perfectly. I haven't gotten too far right now, I'm in battle 14-21 (seeing as I just started using this team.)

New team I'm using:

Garchomp @ Choice Band
Jolly
252 Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
Earthquake
Outrage
Stone Edge
Dragon Claw

I re-bred and got one with awesome IVs. >_> Tears holes in everything, though i kinda want to use Life Orb. CB feels too restrictive.

Weavile @ Focus Sash
Jolly
252 Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP
Ice Punch
Swords Dance
Night Slash
Brick Break

Using my non-pursuit one. Anyways, standard crap; SD, sash, beat shit up.

Gallade @ Leftovers
Adamant
252 Atk / 200 HP / 46 Spd
Close Combat
Psycho Cut
Hypnosis
Thunder-Wave

Cripples stuff and either kills them off by itself or lets Garchomp / Weavile set up for a sweep.

Doing pretty good. I'm up to the 30s.

Died Battle: 140

Heracross (Jolly) @ Choice Scarf
Maxed out EV's in Speed and Attack.
-Stone Edge
-Megahorn
-Close Combat
-Earthquake

Typical Scarf-Cross. It's fast and hits VERY hard. 99% of the time, knocks out at least the first Pokemon (and puts a dent in the second Pokemon's HP) and sometimes even manages a clean sweep (against those guys with all Psychics, Grass, etc). I only rarely switch out of Heracross. It's def/special def are pretty weak so if he can't OHKO or THKO a Pokemon, I just let him die. On a side note, one Close Combat usually takes out Blissey/Snorlax.

Swellow (Jolly) @ Toxic Orb
Maxed out EV's in Speed and Attack.
-U-turn
-Brave Bird
-Facade
-Aerial Ace

Amazing coverage. U-turn out if the opponent switches into an electric Pokemon. Brave Bird for a nice STABBED 180 attack. Wait one turn and dominate with a Facade (Toxic Orb + Guts are amazing on Swellow). Aerial Ace for pesky Double Teams and just when you dont feel like getting recoil damage from Brave Bird. 90% of the time, Swellow was able to pick up the scraps from Heracross and finish off the rest of the team.

Blissey (Bold) @ Leftovers
Maxed out EV's in HP and Defense.

-Aromatherapy
-Softboiled
-Seismic Toss
-Thunder Wave

She's what I call my "insurance policy". Godly HP/Def/Special Def helps me survive through anything. Paralysis and guaranteed 50 dmg is nice. 50% heal and team support is better.

This team got me VERY far. Here's the funny thing, the only reason why I lost on Battle 141... is because I let my little brother play. The opponent had a Frosslass (who's Ghost) and my brother used Close Combat with Heracross as his first move!!!! FYI, Fighting does NOT affect Ghost... at all... and guess what... my Heracross has Choice Scarf so he can't use another move next turn. So apparently, my brother switched to Swellow who was OHKO'ed, switched back to Heracross who died and was left with Blissey vs. 3 Pokemon... and you can guess the rest...

I wasnt really even trying, but im almost at a 100 win streak!

Burn Orb > Toxic Orb imo, Toxic gives you steadily worsening poison, while burn just gives you damage, and because of Guts, the attack drop is negated.

Heracross and swellow both absorb status, so I don't see the need for Blissey with Aromatherapy.

I hate Burn Orb's attack drop. I want to maximize Swellow's sweeping abilities as much as possible. If Fire Orb didn't reduce attack I'd choose it over Toxic Orb.

I use my Blissey for online play and against friends. I have a "pool" of Pokemon that I can just pick and choose 3 from. I agree that Aromatherapy is pointless in THIS lineup but this is just one of the lineups out of the dozens that I can create.

Edit//
Burn Orb doesn't reduce attack, pokés with guts are immune from burn's attack drop.
Ohhhhhh. I didn't know that! Sorry I misunderstood him then. Hmm. Then I'll prolly switch to a Burn Orb.

I'm still trying to get far with my mono-water team. Sometimes I lose so early its funny. Other times.. I get about 50ish.

The 3 are in no particular order:

Milotic @ Flame Orb / Wide Lens / Damp Rock
Ability: Marvel Scale
Nature: Modest
EVs: Max Sp A / the rest were in Sp Def and HP
*Hydro Pump
*Ice Beam
*Rain Dance
*Recover

Double STAB Hydro Pump OHKO's shit left and right. My problem is finding the most useful item. His defense is a shitty 200, so that I could dump max special attack and the rest special defense and HP, hoping that Flame Orb could even the defenses out at 300 a piece. It works ok. Wide Lens because 80% accuracy sucks. Damp Rock if I lead to help the rest of the team.

Swampert @ Leftovers / ???? (Item Clause)
Nature: Relaxed
EVs: in analysis
*Earthquake
*Surf
*Stone-Edge
*Stealth Rock

Stealth Rock for Sashers, everything else is explanitory.

Gyarados @ Lum Berry (Item Clause)
Nature: Adamant
EVs: Bulky Spread
*Waterfall
*Return
*Dragon Dance
*Taunt

Item clause is killing me. Lum berry allowed me to dance on a status, and taunt them out of the second one, opening up the door for a second dance and sweep. Other than that I'm stuck.

Problem: Who to lead with? Swampert gets rocks out, but he is my switch in for electrics. Milotic works well as a lead but Gyarados is more effective. Milo starting combats choice banders pretty well. He recovers off the first blow, the Burn Orb raises his defense so he can tank hits and status, then switch to Gyarados to nullify the Choice boost. Milo can set up rain and Hydro Pump is good for about 2 kills right away. Gyarados is just such a great lead though. All three can work as leads, but I think Gyarados is a better starter than cleaner.

Died Battle 145

Garchomp @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Veil
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 atk / 252 spd / 4 hp
-Outrage
-Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Crunch

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 def / 252 hp / 4 sp.def
-Seismic Toss
-Sing
-Aromatherapy
-Softboiled

Latios @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Modest
EVs: 252 sp.atk / 252 spd / 4 hp
-Psychic
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
-Draco Meteor

Basic idea was, kill whatever possible in one shot with Outrage/Earthquake and switch to Blissey if the opponent looked like it would survive, or after killing it if the next pokemon wasn't a good target for the chosen move. The two sweepers had a common weakness to ice, which even looked bad on paper, but it turned out to not be so bad as Blissey could wall most pokemon that carried it.

I maxed the pp of all Blissey's moves from the collective pp up's I'd imported, and it would often get into stall wars with ghost pokemon or DT stallers, which eventually killed themselves off of struggle. Latios was a relic from the 3rd generation when I didn't understand IV's (or knew the best personality, I would have gone with Timid if I had the choice again) and would often get outsped and killed. Blissey had to bail him out and fight a stall war half the time.

I would try to sing DDers like Gyarados and Feraligatr who would escalate their stats 3-4 times and could already OHKO both sweepers, but eventually my luck ran out and I was killed by them.

Win streak: 88

Weavile: Focus Sash
- Jolly : 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 6 HP
- Swords Dance
- Night Slash
- Ice Punch
- Brick Break

If I see no threat, Swords Dance and sweep! Never dies a LOT of times...

Gengar: Wide Lens
- Timid: 252 Spd, 252 SpAtk, 6 HP
- Hypnosis
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball

Hypnotize and sweep. Pretty standard.

Milotic: Leftovers
- Bold: 252 HP, 240 Def, 116 SpAtk (something along those lines...)
- Hypnosis
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Recover

Hypnotize, recover the lost HP and sweep. Great survivability rate!!
