Cool Chansey set for CAAAmomons

blob (Chansey) (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Soft-Boiled
- Curse
- Toxic
- filler

One of the most commons typings for Chansey is Normal/Ghost because its a very good typing, but in regular Camo it forced to run shadow ball, that given Chansey's terrible special attack did near 0 damage. The other option, Curse, usually wasnt given any thought because ghost curse is ass and it forces it to run Healer because it is a Gen 2 TM.

In CAAAmo, on the other hand, Regenerator helps offset the recoil of Curse and allows it to show its full potencial. Curse+Toxic can break anything in a few turns and it can deter/ko those pesky special setup sweepers that try to set up on Chansey. Although it isnt the easiest move to use; you have to watch your health and how much damage can your foe do to you if you dont want Chansey to die to things it could have otherwise walled. But with the right plays its miles more useful than Shadow Ball

:melmetal: Melmetal has been banned from STABmons + Almost Any Ability. As it should have been months ago.

Reasoning:
Uber statline, insane bulk and only three weaknesses means its almost impossible to OHKO. Along with its immense damage output this means Melmetal wins 1v1 vs 90% of the metagame. Any team not running a stamina, triage or prankster mon with rocky helmet can't even switch into it, meaning that it often picks up free kills while being immensely hard to revenge. These are not qualities that exert a healthy influence on the metagame, so it's been banned.

While Tinted Lens was the cherry on top for Melmetal and it's possible that it was also what actually pushed it over the edge, it's damage output is similarly insane even with Steelworker so it's likely that his presence would not be sufficiently diminished by simply banning TL. We will however be monitoring TL to see if it still enables degenerate button clicking with its most prominent abuser gone.

V-create will be restricted, and Magearna is now stonebanned. V-create has only been causing issues recently, but with how explosive sun has been recently, it seems that V-create being restricted is likely the safest course of action (more on that in a bit). Magearna, on the other hand, has been causing problems since the DLC dropped, alongside Blissey. It's still absurdly bulky with Manectite, it's Doom Desires can hit very hard (around 50% to some mons), and is practically a staple on more bulky teams. Where things really start getting shaky, however, is when we bring Cameruptite into the picture, making Trick Room Mage a horrifying threat that only the fattest of Pokemon (or Alolan Marowak) can safely answer while still being able to answer a variety of threats anyway. As such, it's been a long time coming for Magearna, and I'm sure plenty of people are happy to see it go.

Okay, so why did we decide to ban V-create over Darmanitan? Well, Darmanitan without V-create can't actually break Toxapex (will share the calcs later on), one of the best Pokemon in the metagame (aside from Magearna). About the only hope that Darmanitan has with Pyro Ball is either getting a lucky burn or a crit, neither of which is extremely likely with it's low amount of PP. Additionally, Venusaurite Hippowdon, while already functioning as a check, can only counter Darmanitan without V-create, as V-create is a damage roll with maximum investment on Hippowdon's end, with Runerigus in a similar position (albeit it's less solid when taking hits that aren't Superpower). While these are only 3 Pokemon, those 3 Pokemon are all really solid as is (with one of them being a current S rank Pokemon), I think it's a better call to just ban V-create rather than Darmanitan.

also a V-create restriction also hits Arcanine, another not liked mon.

Additionally, Volcarona is incredibly high on our watchlist (by which I mean I would've banned it now if TNM hadn't just said to wait on it). A decision will be made on it in a week at the latest, but for now, Volcarona is still going to be allowed. To a lesser extent, Chandelure is also on there, but it's far less likely to go than Volcarona.

Saved by goat roldski from double posting.

Cross posting from natdex OMs thread (https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/national-dex-other-metagames-megathread.3656992/#post-8563819).
I made a couple of codes by fusing the gen7 + gen8 banlists of the oms in question. The only exception are Weavile and Terrak in AAA, which were banned last gen but are currently legal in gen8, so I followed the gen8 banlist in this case.

The codes can be found in this link https://pastebin.com/raw/Kze7gbPb

I will drop them here as well:

Feel free to contribute by posting any codes you feel should be added and i will add them into this post. I didn't touch LC and Doubles mashups as I felt it would be better to leave them up to the respective leaders.

EDIT: The standard natdex clause currently only applies the natdex ruleset, not the banlist, meaning that the codes as written above let you use natdex ubers and mons like mega blaziken. A fix will probably be worked on, but until then, here's the codes with manual bans https://pastebin.com/raw/qfkPM4Q3. Also apparently standard natdex conflicts with the AAA base format so natdex aaa has to be set with national dex as base.

And here:

With the STAAAB RTC Qual's coming to a close and playoffs underway, the STAAAB VR has been updated once again! Before I go over the changes, some things to note:

- These changes were largely influenced by the usage and win rates posted by Roldski32
- Tiers S-B+ Are now ordered by viability within them rather than just by alphabetical (a mon that is higher in A rank is Slightly better than one lower in A rank)
- S- Was made!
- Lastly keep in mind this is not finale, and any suggestions/discussion would help improve the VR to be more representative of the meta.

Agree with the changes but i will take this opportunity to talk about the abilities on VR as i feel that some abilities aren't necessarily that good and should probably be removed.

:Toxapex:
Toxapex : Corrosion, this seems way too niche to mention it and prankster/unaware, volt absorb are like way better in 90% of the case. Regenerator seems like a better choice if we really want to add a fourth ability but the top 3 are already listed.

:Talonflame:
Talonflame : Volt absorb ? Again this seems very specific. It can get momentum on Magearna but without Magic Guard you lose Brave Bird/Flare Blitz and Life Orb which means you basically do no damage at all. Magic Guard is probably the only viable ability.

:Urshifu:
Urshifu-Rapid-Strike : No sniper ? It should definitely be mentioned with Surging Strikes and Storm Throw. Technician does similar damage but the ability to beat Stamina/Dauntless Shield users is great.

:Weavile:
Weavile : Dazzling should be there. Good Speed and Attack. Type actually helps vs most triage users (drain punch/draining kiss) as it's weak to it and the other big « triage type » is grass which it can hit super effectively.

:Barraskewda:
Barraskewda : Tough Claw ? Adaptability is only helpful for Surging Strikes or Flip Turn. Tough Claw boosts Close Combat and Psychic Fang too.

:Gourgeist:
Gourgeist : Prankster needs to be added. Priority Destiny Bond with slow Spectral Thief is the perfect combination to beat set up.

:Salazzle:
Salazzle : Sheer Force

:Hatterene:
Hatterene : Add triage imo

Can't believe Cloyster actually rose to B rank lol

To actually be helpful i will also make a nom. Togekiss should probably drop one rank. It completely disappeared since DLC1 with Chansey/Blissey/Magearna and is definitely less relevant now. Psychic terrain is used a lot more too which neutralizes the best Togekiss set, triage.

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike : No sniper ? It should definitely be mentioned with Surging Strikes and Storm Throw. Technician does similar damage but the ability to beat Stamina/Dauntless Shield users is great.
you still crit with either technician or sniper, and you (always) get a boost to priority or flip turn with technician if you use it
the bigger issue is, where is regen on either urshifu
Barraskewda : Tough Claw ? Adaptability is only helpful for Surging Strikes or Flip Turn. Tough Claw boosts Close Combat and Psychic Fang too.
imo it should just be psea and mayyybe tc
psea is a better boost than adapt and clears volc weather for potential jet

volc should also be desoland / turboblaze / mg or sf. desoland is strong power and boots still exist. turboblaze beats unaware which annoys everyone, as well as ff

:sm/chansey: Chansey and Blissey have been quick-banned in STABmons Doubles! :sm/blissey:

After DLC 1 has dropped, it's abundantly clear to me that Chansey has proven to incredibly oppressive with how excellent it can utilize support options it receives from STABmons Doubles such as Fake Out and Follow Me in conjunction with its amazing bulk. However, the thing that made Chansey stand out is undoubtedly Transform. Transform can either be used on its allies such as set-up attackers such as Dragapult and Volcarona or Galarian Weezing for a longer duration of Neutralizing Gas or any of its foes, Chansey also gets to retain its absurdly high HP as well as Eviolite boosts, making it difficult to take once it transformed. While Chansey isn't without its flaws such as its slow speed means it won't be able to use Transform on its ally if they get KO'd, I do not think it's balanced enough to stay based on the games I had with Chansey.

While one would question why not ban Transform itself instead, Chansey still remains the best Follow Me user in the game along with other support options. For this reason, I've decided to ban Chansey. If Transform happens to be an issue later since there are other Eviolite users to worry about, I will look at the move, but Chansey will not be reconsidered.

Additionally, Blissey has been banned as well as it can easily fulfill the gap that Chansey left out. While it doesn't have the Eviolite boosts, it still boasts the highest HP stat in the game.

Calc:
(Transformed into a Galarian Weezing)
252+ Atk Life Orb Excadrill Sunsteel Strike vs. 252 HP / 16+ Def Blissey: 369-437 (51.6 - 61.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Life Orb Excadrill Sunsteel Strike vs. 252 HP / 16+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 244-291 (34.6 - 41.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
(Note: the Pokemon Showdown damage calculator didn't take Sitrus Berry into account, but they still avoid being OHKO by Excadrill that Galarian Weezing does not)

(Transformed into a Dragapult)
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Wicked Blow vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Blissey on a critical hit: 704-830 (98.5 - 116.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Wicked Blow vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Chansey on a critical hit: 474-558 (67.3 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Meanwhile, Type:Null fails to live from a Weavile's Wicked Blow when it's transformed into a Dragapult.
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Wicked Blow vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Type: Null on a critical hit: 474-558 (120.3 - 141.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

For the time being, I think it's the best course to see how Transform will perform in a format without Chansey and Blissey. Any argument is welcomed. I also would want to see if Wicked Blow is banworthy or not in the future.

Also, here's the updated tour code: https://pastebin.com/raw/LQWcKWBP

Now to highlight some interesting mons in the tier:

:Jirachi: - Wide range of set's and utility will likely make it one of the best mons in the tier, whether it be regen rocks, psychic terrain support or offensive, it's versatility will be interesting to see as the meta develops.

130.png
- DD Mglo will be very threatening but also has some options with technician and Best Gal tech of the decade in motor drive.

448.png
- Threatening sweeper that could also run mixed sets with mglo, also has very good priority.

291.png
- Maybe it will be good in something? Best speed tier in a power dipped meta both offensively and defensively could pave a way for it to be on more teams.

464.png
- Rocker with good attacking stats and defense and now reliable recovery? With dual hazards could act in a sorta way that some ttar sets do now

143.png
- Being the only fat normal will be a big help to it compared to the competition it faces in reg staaab.

635.png
/
468.png
- Two Titans of the Pre DLC STAAAB Meta find themselves here, and with their utility in both breaking with sflo + plot and other supportive roles could fine these two at the top just like before.

730.png
- Lastly, the queen of STAAAB UU (Maybe). Being able to change depending on the team whether it be the standard PHeal set, Triage, or even more niche options like AV Regen and Specs could make it a top mon in the tier.

Keep in mind the meta is still new and such, so it might take a while for bans and such to happen, but if the popularity is there, I would be down to having some events with this tier in the future!

StAAAb UUsage Prelim Watchlist:
1. High BP + Ability Special Attackers that Chansey (and Magearna) Killed

1597294062632.png
1597294066737.png
1597296500545.png

All these mons (bar Jolteon) were viable pre-DLC, but the splashability of Chansey has made them drop in usage. They'd require Snorlax or some ct stuff like Carkoal / Coalossal on every team to check them all, and even then Lax has to be careful, as they can 2KO or get very close. There could be a case for banning high BP moves (Boomburst / Eruption / Spout) but smogon tiering policy!!! Every mon other than Sylveon also have extremely good speed tiers making them harder to revenge. Syvleon due to its Fairy type and decent bulk lets it softcheck stuff and nail free 2kos anyway. Priority/Scarf and specific walls might control them, but having 5 distinct special threats is too constraining to build on.

Rising Voltage itself might be too much, because Raichu, Rotom-A, Boltund, Galvantula, etc. can all use a fairly strong Rising Voltage, while the other moves are relatively limited in abusers.
boomburst op:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Pixilate Sylveon Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax: 271-319 (51.7 - 60.8%) -- 94.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Aerilate Noivern Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax: 228-268 (43.5 - 51.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

(pretty good for something that cant really fight back or reliably heal, also rocks)
252+ SpA Choice Specs Pixilate Sylveon Boomburst vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Carkol: 120-142 (33 - 39.1%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Pixilate Sylveon Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Coalossal: 155-183 (36.5 - 43.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Weather + 150bp broke:
252 SpA Choice Specs Inteleon Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax in Heavy Rain: 363-427 (69.2 - 81.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Salazzle Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax in Harsh Sunshine: 333-393 (63.5 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Not as Strong, but still 2KOs:
252 SpA Choice Specs Inteleon Water Spout (112 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax in Heavy Rain: 271-319 (51.7 - 60.8%) -- 94.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (75% HP, 2 rocks: also applies to hydro pump)
252 SpA Inteleon Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax in Heavy Rain: 241-285 (45.9 - 54.3%) -- 5.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (Scarf PSea, or Specs Tinted/Mold)
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Salazzle Blue Flare vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax: 218-257 (41.6 - 49%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Tsar Voltage
252 SpA Choice Specs Jolteon Rising Voltage (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Snorlax in Electric Terrain: 267-315 (50.9 - 60.1%) -- 88.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

2. gyarados

ddmglo surging strike and potential for flip turn stuff too
no
maybe lugg or waterabsorb/dland walls but thats pretty much it

3. Weavile
1597303650832.png

Why TF is this thing not used more in regular staaab its pult but with ice and dark
it has like 0 speed tier competition now and has ice shard and all the good stuff
lugg walls but then lugg dies to like anything else here

4. Lycanaroc-Dusk
1597294897276.png

comeon, its lycanaroc-day but with 2 less speed
like the only thing resisting it is runegrigus and maybe some fighting types who get 2kod anyway

5. Snorlax
1597294977569.png

Snorlax in regular StAAAb is a pretty broken wincon. Get rid of Trick, rid fighting types, and weaken unaware. Then set up 1 curse and you win (bar Toxic). For example, Unaware lax wins against BPress Kommo-o (by far the most common set). I'm more iffy on this one because strong fighting types like Sirfetch'd and Conk exist and can potentially thrive butttt e: Also surging strikes and ghosts can handle it

e: more stuff that's good but (probably) not broken
:conkeldurr: :sirfetchd: These two fighting types are decent in StAAAb, but were outclassed by the Urshifus and Heracross due to their secondary typings and bulk. Conk abuses Triage to the fullest, revenging many fast threats with a very strong Drain Punch. Sirfetch'd has 2 good priorty moves in First Impression and Mach Punch, going for a straightforward Band/LO set or Crithappy Leek Super Luck/Sniper set.

:charizard: A very decent speed tier and Fire/Flying is great and MGLO sets can put pressure on walls while Roosting off what little chip you get. You could also go full Moltres and run Pressure Defog, or SFLO if you are risky. No Lanturn is a godsend but beware of Rotom-Wash.

:rotom-wash: :rotom-mow: :rotom-fan: :rotom-frost: Rotom-Appliances were underrated in StAAb, but all are scary to face here. They all have amazing coverage for anything that tries to (ability) wall their secondary types. *not fan* can use devastating Rising Voltage sets that might be broken too. Wash can go typical scarf and cuck Gyara, potentially scarf regen spout. Mow can use its triage sets without fear of the blob. Fan can use its interesting defensive type or go No Guard. Frost is def the worst but still can be used offensively.

:Aegislash: :Aegislash-Blade: Aegislash is... well, Aegislash. Try running an OU set, because its stats and typing are just good. Alternatively, Regen(vest) is an option especially considering the lack of steels

:Darmanitan: :Darmanitan-galar:One of Darm's forms is bound to be good. Fear the brute force of the monke. Desoland Darm-U easily handles waters like prim, while Darm-G seems better if/when weavile dies to break Grounds.

:incineroar:Great regen pivot that sadly doesn't really have a use in StAAAb OU. It handles threats like Salazzle and Polteageist and can use Vest + Sucker to bop other fast mons.

:urshifu: Urshifu (Strike Strike) has now banned in Doubles OU!

This will affect all Doubles Mashups besides BH Doubles. However, its signature move, Wicked Blow will remain unbanned in STABmons Doubles for now.

:volcarona:
In the meantime, there were discussions about potentially suspect testing/banning Volcarona in Doubles OU. However, I do want to focus on whether or not if it should not be banned in STABmons Doubles if it's ended up being banned since there are some factors that make not banworthy in STABmons Doubles. To make it brief, priority attacks such as Accelrock and Extreme Speed can ruin Volcarona as well as Spectral Thief stealing its boosts.

STAAAB UU Update
130.png

Gyarados has been quick banned from STAAAB UU. It became very apparent in the early stages of the meta that it's threatening power combined with the ability to setup with dragon dance allowed it to easily pull of sweeps if it finds the chance to do so. In addition, access to surging strikes makes it blow past dauntless shield mons like skarmory, and it's solid bulk making able to live super effective priority moves like accelrock. The limited checks it has put a stranglehold and was deemed too powerful for the meta. Some other mons that are being looked at are Weavile, Sylveon and Togekiss as the meta continues to develop. Lastly, I just wanna say thanks for the early popularity this tier has gotten and am excited to see where the future holds for it!

:magearna: Magearna is now banned from STABmons + Almost Any Ability! :magearna:
Updated tourcode can be found in the codes repository.

I think most people who played vs Mag know why she was banned. She can use a wide variety of sets, ranging from specs TL/Adapt/MG to Triage/FF/Steelworker/Adaptability wincon sets as well as defensive Intim/Bounce/Regenvest sets. Basically the mon can do it all and is extremely constraining on the teambuilding process, as there's very few mons that actually reliably beat it 1v1. The most reliable check is Volcarona, but that can randomly lose to a FF Stored Power Mag, so you can never really be safe, whereas Chansey and Blissey get Tricked.

You can expect to see increased council activity in the next weeks as TPP 2 is starting and it features STAAAB as one of the tiers which will certainly result in some nice meta development. If anything proves problematic, we will likely be addressing it.
First thing that comes to mind is Volcarona as it's proven similarly constraining, but maybe with the threat of Mag gone Volc usage will drop and some mons that check Volc such as Tyranitar will be more useful overall.

i think super luck is overall better because accuracy and autocrit priority / knock / pjab / flying press
not a one liner: mienshao is a fighting type that isnt slow. barbaracle can replace gyarados, with mglo it can abuse smash, head smash, and surging strikes

Hummmmmm Tasty! This will be very positive for the metagame, in another hand... I STILL DO MY CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHANSEY TRANSFORM in all STABmons Mashups, today for example I get almost busted by a Transform Chansey in SnM.

The STAAABmons room tour cup has finished its qualifier stage, leaving us with 8 people contending for the top spot.

The quarterfinals bracket looks like this:
Don Vascusvs RICEMAN
manu 11
vs Dylanronpa
Axgwd vs Binacleisthebest
The Number Man
vs youngsterjoeyv69

Deadline is thursday 11:59 PM GMT+2.

The matches are Bo3. Replays should go in the discord channel, I will edit them into this post after the round is up.

binpin vs Ax
TNM vs Joey
Manu vs Dylan
Riceman vs Don

Semifinals!

In accordance with the way seeded brackets are usually done, the winner of 1 vs 8 will face the winner of 4 vs 5 and the winner of 2 vs 7 will face the winner of 3 vs 6. This means, the semifinals bracket looks like this:

RICEMAN vs The Number Man
manu 11
vsBinacleisthebest

Matches are Bo3. Deadline is saturday 11:59pm gmt+2.

TNM vs Rice

Manu vs Binpin

Finals!

The Number Man vs manu 11

Will I be able to win despite the Magearna ban that now prevents me from abusing it for free wins, or will Manu expose me for the metaslave I am? Only one way to find out!

Great News:
little cup validate.png

"Little Cup" clause now validates whether pokemon are in level 5 or not, in addition to allowing pokemon with evolution and is at first stage. This means we are now getting Mix and Mega LC without telling other players to set their levels to 5.

Here's the Mix and Mega LC tour code.
Note: All LC Ubers are banned from Mega Evolving apart from Vulpix. But a few LC Uber will get retested for allowing Mega Evolutions at them. And some LC Ubers might get potentially get banned as a whole when the metagame progresses, with ones being Corsola-Galar, Sneasel, and Vulpix (or Drought).

Decided to update this unofficial code for DLC 1, with Scyther and Chlorophyll ability banned!

The STAAABmons RTC has officially finished (won by me) Thank you to everyone who participated! I hope you guys had fun with this and will consider participating in future iterations of tournaments of this type - next one will probably be CAAAMOmons, unless I manage to get perms to host a forum tour for it.

Replays here: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/om-mashup-megathread.3657159/page-11#post-8568713

Will update this post with some thoughts and usage stats later.
