Another possibility is that it's a better version of rain and sun themselves rather than the ability - like maybe they boost water and fire moves respectively by 2.25X rather than 1.5X or something.

Well move animations have changed in the same generation like some move animation differences between Diamond and Soul Silver for example.

I don't really buy this explanation that Groudon's using Earth Power - the animation is just too different. And Kyogre's attack doesn't really look like any existing move. To me it's almost certain they're getting signature moves to go with the new evolutions.

Probably I'm the only one on this, but I do hope that Sableye doesn't change too much going mega (but I know it's unlikely).
But even if he's going to lose prankster, at least keep the typing, is freaking sweet.

Remember, it'll still use Prankster on the turn of Mega Evolution, and it doesn't even have to mega evolve right away.

Right and as I pointed out earlier, if it gets an ability that gives it some sort of immunity like Bullet Proof, than it'll allow it to play mind games with the opponent since there's no telling when exactly Sableye is going to mega evolve, making the opponent more cautious and thus being beneficial for mega Sableye.

Not to mention from the new trailer, it appears old moves keep their current animations, i.e. Brave Bird, Leaf Storm, Hydro Pump, Overheat, etc. Also, don't forget that wager Cobraroll . You might soon have to change your avatar to a codfish like you said you would IF they add new moves :3.

Of course, the one problem with this is that the most common item Sableye carries is Leftovers. So unless the opponent's scared out it'll be really obvious if it's holding sableyenite or not.

Rotosect i dont think sableye will change type. If ypu look at the megaz so far, 1 of 3 transformations happened.
1. The poke didnt really evolve, but brought about a good aspect about it(ie mega khans baby and parental bond).
2. The pok changed typing with extreme physical changes (ampharos. Charizard. Pinsir).
3. The pokes typing stayed the same with increased stats and/or a new ability.

Sableye and his rock shield would fall under category 1 since his appearance didnt change at all. His innate ability to collect gems allowed him to creatw a super gem shield. He physically didnt change just like khan, so i think its a good chance he is still ghost dark

I'm pretty sure Sableye is as "extreme" a change as Ampharos.

Earth Power.

The thing about this move that may or may not be Earth Power is... It has some fairly dynamic camera angles and big lighting changes. I wouldn't complain if more common moves started getting more intense/ over the top animations. But moves that get animations like this are things like Blue Flare or Spacial Rend. Like Big name High Power moves that earth Power just isn't.

Too me the move looks more like jagged pillars of melting rock flowing in a tidal wave of magma than it does an eruption from the ground (earth power's typical animation for the last few gens)

Seeing as how Primal Groudon and Kyogre actual gush magma or Sea Water fro their bodies, and seeing how dynamic the animation is relative to the animation for something like.. shadow ball. I would definitley put money on this being a new signature move for Groudon than some super ampt up lookin earth power.

The extremity of a Pokemon's physical changes is a really poor indicator of it getting a type change. For instance Ampharo's physical change is FAR less drastic than say Heracoross's. Meanwhile Sceptile has not all the big of a physical change. I don't think Sableye type changes but I also don't think this is an argument you can use to say it didn't

The problem won't be knowing if Sableye's holding Sableyenite or not, but when the Sableye holding it will mega evolving, since, as you said, Sableye doesn't have to mega evolve right away to take advantage of prankster.

Well it looks nothing like Earth Power or Lava Plume or Eruption, and since Kyogre's screen shot move is unique, it's clearly a new move for Groudon. Besides, it looks like it has ancient writing on the pillars, or something on it that makes it look more detailed than just jagged rocks. Who knows, maybe it's a Ground/Fire dual move like Flying Press.

Gee, if the move that Groudon can learn and looks like an Eruption of magma from the ground... I really wonder what it could be...
Well, yeah, but my point was that it doesn't look like and eruption. traditionally Eruption looks like a volcano erupting up into the air (like Camerupt blowing off it's hump) more than it does a slow molten flow across the ground. The same way Water Spout looks like a whale blowing out it's blow hole. (I'm saying blow too much) So this move doesn't look like Earth Power erupting out of the gorund and it doesn't look like Eruption erupting out of the Pokemon. it looks like something new and something powerful.

According to the Japanese site, we have 6 more slots for upcoming pokemon.
OH DANG! the stakes just got real High! there's only one slot for every 100 something Mega-less Pokemon.... I hope none get wasted...

If it's new, I hope it won't be like Glaciate was to Kyurem.

They COULD add more. But this just means the new pokemon won't stop at Mega Sableye.

Maybe the Megalatis will make an appearance here?

I'm more inclined to believe they won't waste mega evolutions on Lati@s. I think the ones we found in XY are just an abandoned project they didn't care to erase from the game data. Reasons for believing this: 1) there's something amiss with them. Two different pokémon getting mega evolutions that look essentially the same?! 2) They've had many opportunities for revealing mega Lati@s, but they preferred to reveal mega Diance and even mega Sableye. The trailer showed at E3 even shows the boy flying on a Latios and still no mega evolution announcement... maybe because there won't be one?

Go Mega Lopunny? Pls? ;~;

I think we'll have to wait for DP remakes for that xD

the quote you just posted has the words "6 more slots" in it and those words are a link to the page. Scroll down and you'll see a grid with the old starters and legendaries, the new megas and primal forms (including Sableye) and 6 empty spaces.

One day....My all rabbit team will no longer be a pipe dream...

Could you post a link? I've been looking for it on the official japanese website and haven't found it yet. The fact I speak no japanese probably doesn't help it either.

Huh, isn't it in my post? I embedded the link. http://www.pokemon.co.jp/ex/oras/pokemon/18.html . Try that. It doesn't appear on the english site though.

Thanks for the links! I did find them after searching a bit more.

Sadly, some slots are taken up by regular pokémon, like Groudon, Kyogre and the Hoenn starters, so this means the six slots left don't necessarily will be filled by mega evolutions.

On the other hand, they're definitely not going to announce every single new mega before release, and since the website is just trying to showcase new things (that is, new things that are going to be released before the games come out to promote them), probably there are more new mega evolutions in the game than they're going to show on their website.
