How this works
There are 8 teams this year. Each team will have have 6 players and at least 2 subs. The players are bought using the 80k credits that managers receive during the auction. Managers will be allowed to purchase themselves as players for their team at a fixed price of 16k but must assign one assistant manager from their drafted players. This may be done either during the auction or after it. Teams can win their matchup every week by winning 4 of the 6 matches that their players have to play.
The tier lineup this year is as follows:
  1. SS Almost Any Ability
  2. SS Balanced Hackmons
  3. SS Camomons
  4. SS Mix and Mega
  5. SS NFE
  6. SS STABmons
All games will be played on the Pokemon Showdown main server or SmogTours in the most current version of the format corresponding to those listed above. The result between players may be decided in a best-of-one or best-of-three at the discretion of both players involved. If there is no agreement, the result will decided in a Bo1 by default.
Winning a round rewards a team with 2 points, drawing 1 point, and losing zero points. In addition, the manner in which the round has been won will also be recorded i.e. the difference between a team's wins and losses in a specific week's round (referred to as "Win Differential").
Playoffs:
Each team will play one another for seven weeks. Based on the final standings, the top 4 teams will enter a Playoffs Round to determine the teams appearing in the finals.

Tiebreaker
In the event of two teams being tied for a spot in the finals based on points and win differential, or a tie in the final round itself, we will have a tiebreaker round(s).

Tiebreaker Rules: The most played meta from usage stats plus one metagame picked by each manager will give a best-of-three game between the tied teams, ultimately deciding who goes onto finals. The three games must be different formats, i.e. the remaining two games cannot be the same as the most played metagame, and must be from the list above. Since SS Balanced Hackmons is most likely to be chosen by usage, the decision to play Bo3 or Bo1 is still left upto the players' discretion and bo1 remains by default.

Substitutes
Substitutes are to be used in the case of "extenuating circumstances" which are unavoidable, whether on the first day of the week, or the last. Moreover, they should generally not be used with a tactical purpose of creating confusion in an opponent's team. At the same time, players should be relatively well-aware of who all are available to play in the opponent's camp. If last minute substitutes are being frequently used or abused and the hosts find explanations unsatisfactory, the hosts still reserve the right to veto them.

Trades
If teams wish to conduct a trade, both managers (or assistant managers if the manager is not present) MUST PM Ransei and SectoniaServant on the FORUMS to have the trade be official. No trades may occur after the conclusion of week 2. A traded player may only feature in the round after they have been traded.

Scheduling
Scheduling should be done on VM walls, plain and simple:
  • If there is no communication on VM walls and a game goes undone, it will be left to the RNG to decide the winner
  • If there is communication on only one user's behalf, the win will go to them. Feel free to call activity in this thread beforehand
  • If there is a very healthy back and forth regarding potential times and one user is a no-show, a manager may take the opportunity to sub out the no-show competitor; if this is not done, the user that showed up responsibly will be awarded the win.
TL;DR: VM your opponents, schedule your matches, and be reliable. If you're not reliable, let your manager know so they can sub you out ASAP.
Use these VM's to initiate discussion about bo1 or bo3 as well!

Sportsmanship
Exhibitions of unsportsmanlike conduct with regards to Other Metagame Premier League will be met with an infraction at the discretion of the OMPL host/OM mods. This is unlikely to include interactions within a team's private chat unless there is reason found to make an exception. This rule is meant to protect other users from being publicly flamed/bashed/provoked by another competitor for the duration of and following the tournament.
All players must complete their matches by the given deadline. Any incomplete matches by that time will be subject to activity decision (MAKE SURE YOU POST ON YOUR OPPONENT'S VM WALL); otherwise, they will be decided via !pick publicly in the OM Room. All matches should ideally be done on your most notable alt (the one you registered for OMPL with) to avoid confusion and the replay must be saved and posted in this thread. The replays will be archived in a separate thread, and will be used to calculate usage stats.

Substitutions & Lineups
Managers, if you wish to make any substitutions, you must post here tagging both the player you're subbing out, the player you're subbing in, the manager and assistant manager of the opposing team, the substitute's opponent, and myself. This is to assure that everyone is in-the-loop and that the OP is updated accordingly to reflect the new match-up.
Managers, when you send in lineups, please send it in with the tier and Smogon username of each player fully written out for ease of transcription, in exactly the same order as laid out above. I will post instructions about sending the lineup for next week later this week.

Predicts which you will see every week from now cause I don't have to bother about ruining my like/post ratio posting in this thread.

The Head Honchkrows
(Jrdn, aesf) - [1][5] - The Temper Tyrantrums (OM, drampa's grandpa)

SS Almost Any Ability: aesf(49) vs Racool(51) - Very close but racool is cuter so the edge.
SS Balanced Hackmons: highlighter(45) vs Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request)(55) - Idk a lot but I think gurpreet Patel is slightly better.
SS Camomons: Jrdn(65) vs Mark K(35) - Jrdn is the goat so....
SS Mix and Mega: Redflix(45) vs Skysolo(55) -A believe skysolo is a better.
SS NFE: frisoeva(45) vs Ho3nConfirm3d(55) - Friso is 3-0, but still think ho3n will win this cause he is very good at nfe.
SS STABmons: Cam(45) vs Plas(55) - Keeps calm, keeps winning.

The Crown Jewel Corviknights (SBPC, Andyboy) - [4][2] - The Klink Shamers (Chloe, Pigeons)

SS Almost Any Ability: Thinkerino(55) vs LaBalladeDesCieux(45) -Took a blind guess.
SS Balanced Hackmons: MAMP(49) vs a loser(51) -Two good players, but I have a soft corner for klings so bolding a loser.
SS Camomons: MetaRiolu7(55) vs DugZa(45) -Dugza is better player overall but edge to metaRiolu in om's.
SS Mix and Mega: Andyboy (65)vs Quantum Tesseract(35) -Said before Andy does not lose to anyone except xavgb.
SS NFE: uhuhuhu7(45) vs TonyFlygon (55) -Tony is a better player, hopefully he'll get a solid team and remember to knock at every chance he gets.
SS STABmons: Terracotta (55)vs Lancer Fr(45) -hmm, This could go either way tbh. Both the player are decent and can win.

The Money Magearnas (Funbot28, GL Volkner) - [2][4] - The Pandemic Parasects (Catalystic, Sylveon.)

SS Almost Any Ability: Funbot28(51) vs Sabella(49) - Should be a good match, expecting funbot to win in a close one.
SS Balanced Hackmons: dimrah(45) vs sugarhigh(55) - GIVE GL VOLKNER.
SS Camomons: Matiss98(30) vs Sylveon(70). - Sylveon is a fucking goat who keeps on winning, idk when he will stop..not here.
SS Mix and Mega: Fardin(49) vs MultiAmmiratore(51) -Close one fardin played quite good last match and is well capable of winning here too.
SS NFE: Crystalites (70) vs 85percent (30)- Crystal has totally been at a different level than any nfe player this tour, no one has been even close, 85 is solid too, let's see if we can get a upset here.
SS STABmons: Dragonillis(40) vs Zesty43(60) - Dragonillis has not been so impressive.

last week was kinda boring but this week is EXCITING ohohohohohohoho

aaa: stresh vs rozes
I can pretty much copy/paste the description for the aesf/rozes game a couple weeks ago, but this has very high potential to be the game of the week (or even the season). Rozes has been on an AAA tear, and I'm pretty sure both of these players are 3-0 at this point, so it's interesting to see who's record will come out on top.

aaa: aesf vs racool
copy paste of stresh vs rozes aka aesf vs rozes aka top aaa player vs top aaa player, this meta is exciting af

mnm: redflix vs skysolo
i've spent my entire OM career underrating skysolo LOL he's actually so good, he doesn't get as much credit as the Chavgb0y "top 3 mnm" players, but he's super impressive regardless. Redflix doesn't have the best record this season so far, but he did pick up a win vs chazm so he's definitely not to be discounted. Should be an exciting game, especially now that we don't have luna just cming lol.

bh: mamp vs loser
loser's last stand, this season has been very disappointing for him and he has to go 4-0 from here on out to have a positive record in the regular season. I really believe in him, but he still has a lot to prove before anyone can convince me that him being the most expensive bh player was worth it. mamp the champ, multi gen top player, top 3 ompl player of all time, etc.

bh: gurp vs hl
gurp

sl is 3-0 atm, highlighter is boasting a super impressive 2-1 since he's barely touched this gen, should be an exciting mu vs two of the top 5 bh minds of all time (imo).

nfe: friso vs ho3n
ho3n was considered THE nfe player to pick up in the draft, and a lot of people said he was the top slot in the tier. However, friso has been on a super incredible run, and he's currently sitting at 3-0 at the top of the pool next to Crystal.

camo: siamato vs geerat
probably the 2nd best camo match of the season (behind jrdn geerat)

Unbiased NFE Predicts round3
back back back again for another round of me talking and no one giving a shit
once again if your feelings are hurt, try calling the police

SS NFE: King Leo V vs DurzaOffTopic
Last week was clean for Leo, cool use of pshot/u-turn combination, was happy with that. Toxic Machoke is not something I had seen yet and I guess it makes sense when you're using Raboot as wallbreaker, def was a good week for Leo. I thought Durza last week had a strong team as well, scarf drillbur was really cool and team synergy worked well. I'm not really sure what to expect this week but both aren't bad players. I think overall this is a tied game, I'm siding with Durza here just because I think he could beat Leo but I can also see Leo beat Durza so ye.

SS NFE: frisoeva vs Ho3nConfirm3d
EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH FRISO AGAIN!!! thank you for bringing bird spam ;w; so cool.... I was really happy with that team last week, it had a really good mu as well since Tony had brought no bird resists, easily got knock'd up and switched on and the only Klang switchin was a Darumaka. I think friso showed a lot of diversity throughout the last couple weeks so I'm very excited to see what will be brought this week. Ho3n last week we didn't see much of lol xd haha, get it cuz it was a 13 turns battle... Ho3n's team was ok, I don't see the point in using Spritzee but I guess that was the 'meme mon' which after that 6-0 serves you right. I think friso will have the edge here if they keep up being really cool but mr ho3n still has really good chances of winning so def a highlight match for me.

SS NFE: uhuhuhu7 vs TonyFlygon
So ed sheeran has only played once and lost but Tony has won once out of three battles? No clue what uhu will bring this week, maybe heat if he feels like it but I wouldn't bet too much on it. Tony's team last week wasn't bad, I think Darumaka is def a scary threat to have on your team but hustle misses are def unfortunate. I'm not sure what either will do because uhu has only been brought once and Tony hasn't done anything that really excited me yet, giving the edge to uhu because I'd prefer for him to win and also because he's on my team.

SS NFE: Crystalites vs 85percent
Once again, Crys is in my highlight of the week <3. Last week Crystal won a battle in 4 turns while 85 lost in many turns. Crys has been doing amazing and I'm scared to jinx him by bolding his name every week but at the same time it wouldn't hurt to lose once in a while.... 85 makes fat teams, fat fat fat with ugly shinies. I'm betting to see 85 prep with a fat fat fat with ugly shinies team based around walling a forb machoke teleport clef combo. Maybe Crys will also bring a fat fat fat with ugly shinies this week who knows... hopefully saying this will make neither of these things come true. I love 85 vmuch but I also love Crys and I think Crys is the better player here.

SS STABmons: vivalospride vs Lasen: OML WHAT A GAME THIS IS GONNA BE. Vivshitlospride vs THE GOD ALMIGHTY LASEN. Lord knows how long this man has been in a official om tour but does that matter? Absolutely not. Asslospride doesnt stand a chance between the ThunderKing.

THIS IS THE FACE OF A CHAMPION

Doing my weekly predictions for the Corviknights this week, they have been doing great and I think these are all the highlight matches this week. It's a bit sad that Thimo isn't playing because he was benched for throwing, because I kinda like watching him play. I analized the results of these teams the past weeks and compared them with each other! Here are my calculated and scientifically proven right predictions!!

SS Almost Any Ability: Thinkerino vs LaBalladeDesCieux - I don't think I have any idea what think was thinking last week, like WTF was that team?? I didn't think I would see a team like this, especially from think, an OM Voice. I don't think I want this week to be an echo of the last one. I think I expect more from think but I think my hopes are low for think. I think LeBaladeDélicieux might be in for a delicious ride still, because I gotta admit think did have a lot of guts bringing that team I think.
SS Balanced Hackmons: MAMP vs a loser - MAMP will take this one easy, he's up against a loser after all. Considering the fact that his opponent is going 0-3 this OMPL makes it an easy decision for me to make. Once a loser always a loser.
SS Camomons: MetaRiolu7 vs DugZa - I think MetaRiolu7 will win this one. Kyurem just got banned, and this was the only thing you ever needed to beat him. He got defeated by Kyurem in both Week 1 and Week 3, and uncoincidentally, during Week 2 there was no Kyurem. You can already guess who won that one. DugZa has no way to prepare for this battle at all now that Kyurem is banned.
SS Mix and Mega: Andyboy vs Quantum Tesseract - We've seen a lot from Quantum Tesseract this OMPL, even taking a win against racool! Andy will have a really hard time vs QT's monster record this OMPL. I really don't think Andy has a chance at all to be honest.
SS NFE: uhuhuhu7 vs TonyFlygon - I'm in love with the shape of you. We push and pull like a magnet do. Although my heart is falling too. I'm in love with your body. And last night you were in my room. And now my bedsheets smell like you. Every day discovering something brand new. I'm in love with your body.
SS STABmons: Terracotta vs Lancer Fr - Epic game, lots of meaty sets coming out of both players for sure. If both players go hard, I honestly don't know who will win. Lancer Fr has already shown us a lot this OMPL, but Terra has shown us more ;). I expect that when Lancer Fr whips out his team, it has good odds of being a hairy situation for Terra. I do have a soft spot for Terra's stuff so slightly favoring him, but this can go either way.

85percent is not feeling 100% this week
Hello, user: Catalystic! I appreciate the pun that you tried to make to cover up your real reason for subbing him out! However, I feel like it's important to tell you that I see right through it. You're clearly hiding something. If you weren't, you wouldn't have specified "this week" because 85percent's username indicates that he's only ever at 85%, not at 100%, so why would this week be any different? Well, through extensive digging, I have found out that you have trapped him in a loading bar which you so conveniently screenshotted as a part of your "meme". So in conclusion, I see right through your memes and puns for what you really are - A kidnapper using his computer science skills for the evil reason of trapping people inside loading bars.

Don't trust Catalystic, distinguished OMPL players. He is naught but a fraud.

MAMP's OMPL BH Review: Week 3

highlighter vs a loser
replay

highlighter has just been spamming Shell Smash throughout this whole tournament (everyone has been of course, but highlighter more than most). He continues that here, literally just clicking it turn 1 and getting a kill. highlighter gets a lot of momentum very early with cool sets like Grav Apple Zacian-C and carries it, with some luck against Eternatus and Snorlax to stop loser from making any real comeback. To put it simply, highlighter won this because he used Shell Smash twice, and loser used it 0 times. Interesting teams on both sides: I think loser's offensive Snorlax is well positioned in the metagame right now and it's a shame that it didn't work out here. Safety Goggles has fallen off hard recently, and highlighter abuses that really nicely with this Spore spam team. loser is now 0-3 (living up to his name), but I don't think this reflects his skill as a player nor the quality of his play thus far in the tournament. I would say that I hope he makes a comeback this week, but his opponent is me, so I won't.

Gurpreet Patel (sent you a friend request) vs dimrah
replay

This game was a real treat to watch, and a great showing from dimrah in his team tour debut. Gurp (I think this is a really funny way of shortening his name so I will be using it from now on) brought a bunch of weird anti-smash stuff: Snow Warning, double scarf, and FC Smash Zama-C. dimrah didn't bring a smasher in this game, but the Scarf Snow Warning Kyurem-W put it in a ton of work regardless. Like Gurp's game last week, this was a really grindy one where both players kinda got owned by a spike that they couldn't really remove. Court Change on dimrah's Eternatus was a huge player in this game, preventing Gurp's Kyurem from putting on as much pressure as it would have otherwise. I thought this one was over after dimrah's great use of his Dynamax to basically get 2 kills, but Gurp played well to find a spot to heal up Zama and dimrah struggled to pressure Gurp's defensive core after that. Gurp's Golisopod went hard this game, picking up a ton of momentum and really chipping away at dimrah's team — dimrah could have maybe done more to keep its HP low in the midgame. I think dimrah misplayed by sacking the Corviknight on turn 61, perhaps tunnel visioning a bit. I'm not really sure why Gurp didn't take the opportunity to heal up his Zama on turns 62 and 63, but maybe I'm missing something. The endgame was an interesting one, where Gurp (still having his dmax + trickscarf) was hugely advantaged, but at the same time both players had a ton of decisions. I don't think dimrah had a lot of realistic routes to victory, but the end of this game definitely could have gone a number of different ways.

PinkDragonTamer vs sugarhigh
replay

Sun HO is a sugarhigh classic, and it's cool to see him adapt it to a new generation. This game really could have gone either way: as is usually the case with these kinds of HO mirrors, the game hinged entirely on a few crucial turns. Turn 11, where sugarhigh basically burns his dynamax (not expecting sash darm I guess) was pretty pivotal. Then pdt found a spot to set up the second smasher after the first one traded for the Prankster, and just won. A kinda lame ending, all things considered. It could be argued that this demonstrates how Smash gets more broken in multiples, but I would argue that it's more a showing of the flaw of Hippowdon as a Prankster (can't really stop special Smashers) and the strength of powerful priority on smashers (sugar's darm would have checked it if it was basically any other smasher). pdt brought a fast moldy hazards lead, a really rare sight in this gen what with Court Change and Zac-C and all that. It worked out here, but I doubt the consistency of it.

MAMP vs Tack :]
replay

Metagame observations:
A lot of classic BH HO stuff made a comeback this week. Spore spam, Final Gambit, Mold Breaker hazard leads, Prankster Destiny Bond. The utter dominance of Shell Smash recently is bringing all of this stuff back into relevance after generational shifts had pushed a lot of it out of the metagame. Weird vibes.

The funny snowman had been getting surprisingly low usage in the first two weeks, but that turned around this week partially due to the strength of the Magic Guard sash set in a HO infested metagame. I imagine we're going to keep seeing a lot of it in weeks to come.

Upcoming matches:

PinkDragonTamer vs Tack :]
— There was a bit of doubt about both of these players before this tournament started, but they've both proved their proficiency. Should be an interesting one.

highlighter vs Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) — a real highlight match hahajahahsjadhbdslfdsfhbdsf

MAMP vs a loser — loser is a player who I don't think I've had an opportunity to play against in tournament yet. Although I hate to do it to him, I'm looking to extend his losing streak this week (at 8am saturday gmt+10).

dimrah vs sugarhigh — dimrah is back for another round, up against a real veteran in sugarhigh. sugar has gotten kinda cheesed in the two matches he's played so far and hasn't really had an opportunity to show off what he's got. Hopefully he gets that opportunity this week.

Thanks for reading another edition of MAMP's OMPL BH Review, and sorry that this one was a little bit late!

THIS IS THE FACE OF A CHAMPION
what the fuck

430.png
The Head Honchkrows (Jrdn, aesf) - [4][2] - The Temper Tyrantrums (OM, drampa's grandpa)
697.png

SS Almost Any Ability: aesf vs Racool - If im being honest I'm having a hard time bolding against either of these individuals. Aesf is my hero but racool has gone out of her way to interact with me this ompl while aesf has not so idk. Racool will probably rain again and get ct'd by broken swinub and lose.
SS Balanced Hackmons: highlighter vs Gurpreet Patel (Sent you a Friend Request) - highlighter seems to be doing ok, proving that rust in oms doesn't exist yet again bc realistically none of us have any fuckin clue as to what we're doing, so being out of it for a while makes no difference >:D.
SS Camomons: Jrdn vs Mark K - Well. This is quite the one sided battle. However, I always feel like jrdn doesn't like me when I talk to him while it's the complete opposite w/ Mark K, mostly bc I don't talk to him but he was a nice manager last year and he even said I have interesting ideas when faced with heat in one of his prediction posts. Little does he know that I'm beyond fuckin braindead and unoriginal as fuck, regardless of that tho I am bolding Mark Ronson himself for the upset.
SS Mix and Mega: Redflix vs Skysolo - Okkkk idk what I did to my cpl2/3 teammate to deserve the HATRED im receiving in this thread, so I'm HEAVILY bolding Redflix MULTIPLE times to counteract the blatant disrespect and tarnishing of my name. Fuck Skybitchloser!!!!
SS NFE: frisoeva vs Ho3nConfirm3d - Gonna bold this guy with the 3s as Es in his name bc if I don't this series will be too one sided, I also don't know a single fuckin thing about this shit so this is arbitrary anyways.
SS STABmons: Cam vs Plas - Ahhh I kinda feel like plas will win but he's friends with skyratbitchpussyloser so I'm gonna have to bold against him. Good man cam will win.

823.png
The Crown Jewel Corviknights (SBPC, Andyboy) - [3][3] - The Klink Shamers (Chloe, Pigeons)
599.png

SS Almost Any Ability: Thinkerino vs LaBalladeDesCieux - Nothing too exciting here, at least imo. I still to this day don't know how to say or pronounce or even how to read this guy on the right's name so I'm 100% bolding thinkerino bc he called my nupl/omwc manager the goat last week.
SS Balanced Hackmons: MAMP vs a loser - MAMP spends 9849348 hours a week making these posts like the one above this one so I have to bold him bc not only is he the champ, but he truly deserves it for the time and effort he has put into this community.
SS Camomons: MetaRiolu7 vs DugZa - DugzaOffTopic seems to be a fine lad, i still dont know anything about this riolu fellow other than the fact that he was on my friend Pak's uupl team, I think. Anyways I flipped a coin and it landed on dugza.
SS Mix and Mega: Andyboy vs Quantum Tesseract - I watched funbot's new mnm discussion video and andy was talking for about 80% of it, and after finishing it I now have an ear infection in both ears. Gmansour20 Funbot28 pls try your best to drown out this guy's voice in the future, he clearly didnt know anything about the meta anyways. Anyways my AGPL manager is winning 6-0.
SS NFE: uhuhuhu7 vs TonyFlygon - I like uhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhu a lot but bc he is starting means Marjane is not starting and I'm a huge marjane stan so I think tony will prolly exert his "Funniest User" energy all over uhuhu in this game of pocket monsters.
SS STABmons: Terracotta vs Lancer Fr - Terra is a nice guy most of the time, idk who this lancer for real guy is but Chloe is usually pretty in tune with the community so I'm sure they're a solid pick. But like I said idk them nor have I seen them play bc I don't pay attention to this tour at all >:-D.

801.png
The Money Magearnas (Funbot28, GL Volkner) - [3][3] - The Pandemic Parasects (Catalystic, Sylveon.)
047.png

SS Almost Any Ability: Funbot28 vs Sabella - Big booty fan, I have had an extremely high opinion of booty for a long time and funbun ive always been a fan of. I think meta knowledge is showing to be hurting booty so far this tour tho, and even if funbot prolly hasnt looked in the aaa discord since 2019 she surely has the edge in terms of meta knowledge. I'd normally bold the big booty man here but instead I will go with my gut and say funbooty will win and then sab will bounce back next week.
SS Balanced Hackmons: dimrah vs sugarhigh - Seeing someone other than GL Volkner in this slot always makes me smile but idk if it's enough to root against sugarhigh after talking to geerat a bit the other day I want his team to do well. I've heard good things about dimrod tho
SS Camomons: Matiss98 vs Sylveon. - If this was aaa, geerat would win 100% of the time. Since it's not aaa, geerat only has a mere 98% chance of winning every week, regardless of the meta he is still part of the troublesome threesome of ompl, that won't change.
SS Mix and Mega: Fardin vs MultiAmmiratore - I don't know this guy enough to make any jokes about him aside from multi amalgamate :(, Fardin will win bc ive spoken to him before and ive yet to interact with this multi guy so until he dms me in an attempt to get to know me I will be bolding against him bc I never know wtf to say, maybe I should actually watch some of his games.
SS NFE: Crystalites vs 85percent - I'd like an explanation as to why this guys name is 85percent and not some other percentage, I only know crystalites bc someone asked me to inv them to a proom bc "theyre cool", chances are theyre not cool bc theyre spending time on this dumbass website like the rest of us dickheads but I'm still bolding them until 85percent tells me the origin story behind his name.
SS STABmons: Dragonillis vs Zesty43 - This dragon boy has not impressed me in aaa this year and I doub't he'll be thrown into stab and become a menace, meanwhile the man he is slotted against has all the zest in the world and just beat me last week so surely he will win this week.

rozes totally on time week 3 aaa review

rozes vs thinkerino

starting with my game vs think from last week, which was an interesting one to say the least. from team preview my build was a more balanced offense build, based around a defensive core of pex/doub/incin, whereas think seemed to have a more offensive webs build with some kind of special overload. noivern seemed like a big threat for my team, especially with webs up, as it was going to outspeed and kill just about everything on my team. as expected during turn 1, he set up his mold breaker webs with ribo, whereas i opted to just get rocks up as fast as possible to get as much chip as possible on the noiv/kyurem. eventually he does get his mew in, and as he doesnt show mold breaker, my bounce toxapex is fairly safe on it. this is where the game got a bit weird though, as he started spamming echoed voice. i myself had to go and look up exactly the mechanics behind it, and realized now that he was -ate echoed voice spam, as it keeps its base power even after a mon faints as long as the next mon uses it. luckily i ended up having a gastro acid toxapex, which was able to shut down the kyurem, and let me get a couple free swords dance with doublade. he did forget that his echoed voice became normal typing, as he said he was on phone, and that meant i got two swords dance instead of one with doublade, which let me win on the spot.

overall this game think went for more of a matchup fish, to try to see if he could end up with something that would just either auto-win or auto-lose at matchup, and unluckily for him he got an auto-lose.

LaBalladeDesCieux vs aesf

from team preview the thing that stood out the most for me was the copperajah on aesfs team, as thats not something thats seen a lot in aaa, and its tough to tell what set it could even be. aside from that lbdc seems to have a fairly standard team of his own, as does aesf when you take away the copperajah. lbdc has a team that seems to be based around supporting mamoswine and dragapult, with pivots like jirachi, mandibuzz, and incineroar to get them in, with ferrothorn as a defensive pivot for hazards. the core of mandibuzz and incineroar is also interesting, as they overlap if they are both defensive sets, which means lbdc could also be an offensive swords dance variant, or some other kind of incineroar. aesf on the other hand also seems to have the pivot into breaker idea going, with a level 98 rotom-wash + mew to get in copperajah and grimmsnarl, which seem to be the bigger breakers on his side. the game starts out with incineroar vs copperajah, and based on how the turn went im assuming aesf thought lbdc might be a slower incineroar and just went for a superpower to see if he could take it out turn 1. lbdc on the other hand thought he could force the copperajah out right away, so he went for a u-turn to try to catch the rotom-wash on the flare blitz switch in. he does end up clicking u-turn into mandibuzz though, which takes 73 from a superpower, which means aesf is probably something like tough claws banded, which can be a threat vs lbdcs team. the rest of the game goes pretty standard up until turn 7/8, where aesf first reveals bulletproof ferro vs lbdcs sball pult, but then gets cooked by a non-choiced fire blast the next turn and aesf loses his ferrothorn without getting any hazards up. this likely means the lbdc is a sheer force set, as it didnt take any life orb recoil, which lets aesf get grimmsnarl in afterwards. on turn 15 we see a really nice tech when incineroar finally reveals its set to be choice banded adaptability, and with darkest lariat it is able to ignore the mews dauntless shield and do 62 to it even with a colbur berry. aesf does get a nice turn where he kills the dragapult with his sucker grimm, but this does mean that lbdcs mamo gets to get a kill of its own the next turn, forcing a trade game that will eventually end unfavorably for aesf due to the mons that he had left. aesf does get a fairly lucky para on turn 20, which likely was on a u-turn and would have avoided him having to sack his rachi to a heat crash, but it is the game that we play. in the end after trading his incineroar with aesfs grimmsnarl, lbdc is able to coast to a win with leechtect ferrothorn + mamoswine able to take down mew + pult, and let him get his win for the week.

overall this was a fun game that came pretty close, and had a lot of fun interactions. aesfs copperajah was a cool tech, and seeing two hard hitting dark type attackers in incineroar and grimmsnarl was also great.

Dragonillis vs. racool

completely the opposite from the last game, we seem to have two very offensive builds at team preview for drago vs racool. with a fairly nasty arctovish (likely swift swim) + inteleon rain, drago was hoping to catch a bulkier build that couldnt keep up with the onslaught of water moves from the two. on the other hand racool has a build based around mold breaker mew being able to get up hazards on bounce mons, and then using her offensive mons to just keep breaking holes in the opposing team so the next mon could win. on t1 we see racool bust out a cool tech on mold breaker mew in toxic spikes, which is great vs dragos team due to the lack of a grounded poison type, and it means that dragos rain sweepers that get in before he can get a defog off will be on a timer for the rest of the game. racool does have an av rachi on this build as well, which lets her have a nice pivot into inteleon, which may have otherwise been annoying. on turn 7 we see a cool tech from racool as well in a scarf noivern, that manages to get a surprise kill on dragapult, though from the way that it was brought in drago probably should have seen some kind of tech coming. the fact that racool is scarf noivern also makes this mu a lot easier for her, as it is able to outpace a swift swim arctovish, meaning as long as she kept it around, she shouldnt be that scared of it cleaning up. we further seen the use this has after turn 12 where arcto manages to ohko a dragapult in rain after outspeeding it, but racools noiv can just come in after to revenge kill it due to it take a couple rounds of tspikes damage as well. the games pretty much over for here, as drago just doesnt have the tools to break racools team due to the tspikes + scarf noivern.

this was a fun game to watch as it was just two offensive teams going at it and trading mons just about every turn. if drago had found a chance to defog before getting in intel/arcto there might have been a more interesting game, or if racool didnt have scarf noivern, but based on how it played out, there was little drago could do vs racools team.

sabella vs xavgb

team preview on this one has sabella seemingly having a pretty common team structure at the moment in just pivots + breakers, similar to aesf, lbdc, and me. as his defensive core though he has a pivot silvally form (likely steel), as well as a teleport mew more than likely to get in his breakers like intel, terrak, and kyurem. stresh on the other hand has a more balanced take on the pivots, with silvally and clefable of his own to get in dracozolt and noivern. both also have golisopod, which could either be a more defensive set with spikes and poison heal or magic bounce, or an offensive tinted lens or triage set. the game starts with stresh quickly having to go to his prankster pex vs sabellas terrakion, as he doesnt have a good rock resist that can handle it otherwise. prankster pex does do a good job at walling it though, as the combination of prankster haze + prankster recover, along with the life orb damage terrak takes, means it wont break through without a crit. sabella realizes this and just elects to get his rocks up. sabella does show that hes a more defensive pod set with leftovers and knock off, but even more surprisingly we see stresh have a sharp beak noivern here (though he really should have been boots), and is able to just get the rocks off his side of the field. sabella shows his silvally steel here, and attempts to get a poison on streshs clefable, which could be magic bounce due to the lack of toxic orb. stresh manages to avoid the poison, and can get his dracozolt in safely. sabella attempts to go mew vs this zolt, but life orb bolt beak turns out to be a 2hko on it, especially with draco meteor the next turn to avoid further helmet chip. the game pretty much ends at this point, as stresh has a wall for all of sabellas breakers, and sabella has to sack a mon every time stresh gets in dracozolt via silvally u-turn or clefable teleport. the game ends in this fashion, as sabella tries to break through, but it basically comes down to intel being walled by pex/silvally, kyurem being walled by silvally/clefable, and terrak being walled by pex. lo zolt was killer in this matchup, and showed the power it can bring by handily busting through sabellas dauntless shield mew.

metagame observations

we saw a lot of the pivot archtypes this week, where players just went with a breaker that they like and slapped on slower defensive mons with u-turn/teleport to get them in safely. teleport in particular was seen a lot on clefable and mew this week, as its a really safe way to guarantee your breakers like noivern/terrakion/mamoswine can get in safely.

another interesting thing i saw was that lbdc/stresh/racool/aesf all had ways to take advantage of dauntless shield spam being the way a lot of teams handled physical attackers. stresh used a life orb dracozolt with draco that 2hkos dauntless mew/hippo, while lbdc used a choice band darkest lariat incineroar to ignore the +1 from mew/hippo. racool and aesf both had a more common darkest lariat mon in grimmsnarl, but nonetheless its a cool pick at the moment with all the teams relying on dauntless mew/hippo as their blanket walls for physical attackers.

there were also a few cool offensive builds being used this week, and we saw pretty much the full spectrum of hyper offense because of that. drago had a neat rain with his arcto/intel core meant to bust through balanced builds, similar to racools rains from the last few weeks. racool on the other hand used a mold breaker mew offense which has been on the rise lately, but had her own take on it with tspikes mew, and additionally an av rachi to get in the breakers more easily. thinkerino went the hard matchup/cheese offensive build as well, and its always interesting to see how people can push the limits of these oms at the very least, even if he wasnt successful this time.

upcoming mus

SS Almost Any Ability: aesf [49] vs [51] Racool

easily my highlight this week, and hopefully one of the best matchups this tour. i have heard that they agreed to a bo3 as well, so hopefully that keeps things interesting, and might allow some more out there and interesting techs from the two of them. before the season i probably would have bolded aesf here, but hes started off a bit slow, whereas racool has picked up from last gen pretty quickly and is already 3-0. i still think this is an insanely close series, and probably could have predicted aesf if i had written this post up tomorrow, as it really is that close between them. im hoping for some fun games here though, and cant wait to watch it live.

SS Almost Any Ability: Thinkerino [51] vs [49] LaBalladeDesCieux

another really good game vs the newcomers this tour as opposed the the veterans of the last game, this one was also really hard to predict. overall im going with think here as he has probably played more of ss aaa than anyone else this gen, and if he could bring a solid team instead of trying to matchup fish, im sure he will play it fine as well. lbdc on the other hand had a really good win last week vs aesf, and was able to pick up on metagame trends and bring a really dope incineroar set that paved the way for mamoswine to break. hopefully we have a great game between these two, and we can see some fun techs as both seem fairly willing to explore into the more niche territory when it comes to building.

SS Almost Any Ability: Funbot28 [45] vs [55] Sabella

after dragos disappointing start (hopefully he has more success in stabmons), we see funbot slot herself into aaa and has to face a veteran aaa in sabella. im going with sabella here because i trust that geerat/cata will be able to come up with a solid team for him, and i think as long as sabella is able to get a good matchup he should be able to win. this game should be another fun one though, and will be interesting to watch as long as there isnt any big matchup discrepancy between the two.
also stresh vs me is in 1-2 hours if anyone wants to watch n_n
