Hello players. For most of you, this is one of the most important times of the year. After all, you need to decide which team to get drafted by, an event that is 100% under your control, trust me. Thus, for your edification, I have created a power ranking of all the different teams that signed up so you can make an informed decision. Hope this helps!
S Rank
Spinda Wheels: This team has it all. From the top, it's name is easily enough to qualify it for S rank just on its own merits; not only does it escape the trap of mindless alliteration, it also has the nerve to be good on top of it. It already has a custom avatar for the team, so there's lower variance there; sure, there's no chance of a surprise breakout success, but you know the minimum quality you're getting access to. As if this wasn't enough, you also get to share a team discord with esteemed user In The Hills, which would be a major selling point on it's own. This team is the one to watch out for this OMPL.
Oh, and Stresh is apparently good at mons too or something.
A Rank
Wiggly Family: Another returning team, the wiggly family had a very solid run last OMPL; though they faltered a bit near the end, they managed a strong regular season and managed to get into playoffs. Management is a bit different this time, but there's continuity, so we can rest assured that some of the lessons learned stick around. As far as names go, Wiggly Family isn't alliterative, and by all accounts from last year their draft plan resulted in a very cohesive and positive team presence. However, there are a few factors that unfortunately keep this team out of S rank. First of all, while good, their name lacks a certain je ne sais quoi that would propel them to the top. Secondly, this year the management crew lacks Gman, which will widely shrink the enthusiasm gap before it has the chance to take off. Finally, in order to join this team you need to learn french, which makes it a bit harder to slide into for a casual player.
B Rank
Hammered Hawluchas: Here in the B ranks we have our first new team. The Hammered Hawluchas are overall a solid pick this season. Astralydia is a very well rounded player and builder who can offer a lot of team support, which makes this an especially great pick for players just starting out. The name, while not a standout, is hardly cringeworthy, and Hawlucha is a Pokemon with a lot of potential as a custom avatar, so the potential reward is pretty high. However, this isnot without its downsides; because of Lydia's playing skills, there is a wide range of tiers they can slot into, which leaves a wider proportion of the player pool at risk of being overshadowed by their own manager - especially for those without an established reputation of their own.
Temper Tyrantrums: The Tyrantrums are the third playoffs team from last year, and the last of those returning. Unlike the previous teams, there is some cause for skepticism here - neither OM nor Drampa are known for their playing or building skills. The name is a workmanlike alliteration as well, which hardly helps matters. At first glance, it might seem like the only bright spot is the quality of the potential custom avatar at the end. However, this is not the case; the Tyrantrums have earned their place here, albeit in an unconventional way. While they may not be star players, this manager duo has the experience to give them a chance to really excel in the drafting phase, and since neither manager will be playing, they'll have a full wallet with which to do it when the day comes.
C Rank
Uh Oh Kommo-os: Where the higher ranks were defined by the quality of their naming, the C rank takes its cue in the other direction. Sevag is a highly skilled all-around player with an excellent history, while will is a phenomenally underrated supporter for teammates. By picking him as a comanager, Sevag managed to secure this assistance completely for free, which has definitely never happened before in an OMPL. However, the name is completely dire and there's no salvaging it, which keeps this B - or potentially even A - ranked team slumming in C tier.
Brigadier Boldores: If there's one thing almost every other team shares, it's that they focus on the core OMs. Not so for the Boldores, who made the daring decision to double stack AG managers. This is a risky strategy, especially since AG has its own premier leagues to provide records for those less informed in the metagame, but it's also not one without its benefits. Since both managers play AG, it should be entirely possible to pick up a relatively lesser AG pick - potentially some diamond in the rough they know with their connections - to play for cheap at a bargain price, and with the team support still perform at starter level on a minuscule price tag. This effective windfall, combined with some smart bids, could go a long way towards making a lineup that's solid all around - if, that is, they can pull it off in the draft, which is far from guaranteed.
Honey Linoones: Of all the teams in C rank, this is the one with the highest variance. In their day, both Catalystic and aesf were all star players and builders. If they can get their act together and at least one of them shows up to the draft, it's entirely possible this slot ends up being a B rank or even potentially A rank lineup. Unfortunately, that's a very big if, and the alternative is far less impressive. Catalystic tried to come out of retirement last year to lead the Roselias alongside fellow om legend Shiloh, and their season ended up crashing and burning after a start that looked all too similar to this one.
D tier
Malding Mavericks: I want to like this team. It's an injection of fresh blood, seems likely to command an insurmountable advantage in 2v2 doubles, and it's always fun to root for the underdog. Unfortunately, after that name and signup post I just can't. Alas.
