The two things that are kinda bonkers atm are Discord Orb and McCree. Discord Orb just shuts down so many tank based and flank based pushes and it makes Pharah nearly unplayable to me when combined with McCree's new range and D.Va's new Defense Matrix. McCree just finds his problem with too high of damage from too great a distance naturally. Both have multiple ways of being fixed though and I expect it won't take long for Blizzard to recognise and deal with them accordingly.

I am a tank / frag / Lucio guy, so D.Va's buff and being Ana's ult target a good amount of the time (in a rather small amount of games I should mention) has been really fun. Learning to manage Defense Matrix hasnt been too hard and the ult... feels a lil too nice imo as you can just get out your toy gun and shoo heros that are supposed to beat you off the point. I will say that Discord Orb is really showing how ridiculously powerful it is whenever I am leading the push as the tank. I think it does need to be toned down a bit or have a cooldown whenever it is returned. As for now, use Zen... That orb is really good.

Is it just your Anas playing poorly or do your opponents have bad Anas too?

How are people supposed to learn a new character if they don't get a chance to play with her in a serious environment
I hope by serious environment you don't mean comp mode haha.

Discord Orb has always been good... It just has slightly better up time due to faster speed now. Pharah will be unplayable regardless of Discord due to McCree being omnipresent again. Yea Discord is meant to shred tanks and also allow focus fire on flankers/ults better. A Reinhardt/Zarya is really annoying for Discord though since they block it from being applied and remove it so much. If you need a tank and the enemy team has a Zen, Reinhardt/Zarya is pretty much a must. They both keep the up time on Discord to a minimum.

I tie Discord Orb's success with Zen himself naturally. Now that Zen can survive Genji combo in most cases, that in-turn makes Discord Orb far more versatile as Zen can now stop said Genji pretty easy so long as he can aim his potatoes somewhere near the headbox. I am used to being blown up by Discord Orb and Zen orb damage and what you said about and I do believe that is what its purpose was (debuffing the front line). Being able to switch the orb from the front line to a flanker in an instant, win against the flanker, then debuff the frontline again once the flanker beaten (happens really fast) has a ton of versatility to it. Maybe it is Zen's damage overall that is bugging me here, idk. It kinda makes Genji a worse flanker than Tracer now in my mind I guess just because his movement options have far less power in keeping him alive not to mention Tracer can shed Discord whenever recall is off cooldown.

Genji can two shot Zen now and Zen can two shot Genji. Previously, Genji would one shot Zen and Zen would still only two shot Genji. It's kinda a fairer fight now of whoever has better DM wins. Zen still takes the same amount of time to kill a flanker as pre-buff, and in turn takes slightly longer to get killed. The extra HP makes quite a lot of difference for people who DM well with Zen. Also, Zen's overall damage output is lesser now, although his initial 2-3 hits will do about the same damage as before due to Discord being applied on the first shot instead of only from the second shot. Yea Tracer has a better chance against Zen than Genji now, mainly due to blinks and Recall being a dumb ability in my eyes, giving her effective 280HP or something like that. However it's easier to punish a Tracer that screwed up than a Genji that screwed up due to lower HP though. Zen can headshot bodyshot or headshot kick Tracer, whereas he still needs to double headshot Genji or headshot double bodyshot / kick Genji. Reflect though is a really good ability to use once Genji manages to ding Zen with like 1-2 shurikens and lets him walk into Zen's face and insta combo kill him.

On our teams I prefer to play heal. The thing is that, even if it's just a quick match, it's annoying for someone to use Ana (or two people) and use her as a goddamn weak Widowmaker instead of healing. They play it to kill instead of healing, and two supports on some maps is just losing.

I can't take Ana's sniper seriously, which is why she kills me more than I should lol, it sounds like someone is spraying perfume or something. Also we finally got the D.Va update (and Ana too) yesterday and she's way more better now. The fact that you can time your defense matrix and drop it when they reload is just bonkers.

Edit: Above is my twitch English broadcast, tons of kills streaks with D.Va and Junkrat :)

what heroes did you use to carry?

i've been trying to religiously master genji just to try and carry lol, did it a few times in qp but it's only that, qp..

I did use him a couple times in comp and I feel like I did pretty good, not carry-levels of good but good enough to be contributing in a big way to the team, killing their support on sight and getting a couple kills each time with every ult, etc, general genji stuff
Genji is the best hero to get good at for competitive. Wish I could play him but I don't even wanna shame myself trying to learn him so I have very low amount of time played on him. I mostly just played Zarya/Winston/Tracer on KOTH and some Rein mixed in. I haven't gotten a chance to try out ranked on the new patch, but I would assume McCree along with Genji are the best two solo q heroes at the moment. Also Zenyatta seems to be good and I'm gonna start practicing him as soon as my work week ends.

In that regard, Mei never gets potg / many medals but she is often key in winning matches with its crowd control and defensive capabilities...
Yeah but you are being compared to other Mei players around your rank, so the same applies to them as well. If you end up winning because of plays that don't show up on stat sheets then that is fine also... i mean you do gain skill rating for winning afterall.

yeah I spent about a solid full week just playing mostly genji to try and get him down lol, while simultaneously watching pro genjis/asking for advice

I suggest watching shadder2k seagull and surefour, best genjis around, there's a couple more but I'm forgetting them.

shadder2k especially is fucking insane.

Yeah I watch shadder the most since he's usually streaming when I get home from work. I enjoy watching him a lot since he doesn't really queue with a pocket mercy like some other high rank people

I've also seen ShadowBurn carry his team with his amazing Genji play. I was actually watching to see how the new meta is turning out.

So far there's been hardly any Ana usage at all, and when she was used she didn't have a big impact. As expected McCree is everywhere right now, I've yet to see a high level game without both teams running McCree. This unsurprisingly has pushed Pharah and Solider 76 out of the meta, but its actually made Genji somewhat popular. He can deflect the Flashbang and his ult, and is kinda the only offensive hero left you can use. Zenyatta has kinda pushed Mercy out of the meta, whether this stays or not only time will tell, but its weird to see no players coming back from the dead (heh). I expect Mercy to come back and Lucio will most likely be switched for Zenyatta. Reinheart is still getting plenty of usage, as well as Winston and Zarya too. I'm seeing less of Roadhog mainly because McCree is back.

Also I got an insane POTG (imo) with Zenyatta, I heal for 2000 in one ult and save the team *-* Check it out below if you want.

I think Mercy will probably be back. So far what I've watched has been attackers steamrolling defenders because there isn't ever a res lol, and zenyatta gets his ult slower i think?

Mercy's res is just too good for both defense and attack to leave out. McCree outclassing soldier is pretty funny to me, never thought soldier would be outclassed lol. but yeah I've seen all teams run mccree so far and a bunch of them run dva too.

Depends on the amount of damage your team is taking to determine if Rez or Trans is built faster. I have no problem getting Trans up before Mercy does with aggressive healing and damage out put.

The reason why Mercy fell out of meta other than the charge nerf is that her kit isn't reliable. If the enemy gets ults like Dragonblade before your Sound Barrier is up, Mercy cannot reliably kite to survive it. And it's common for Sound Barrier to be built slower than some offensive ults. That's just one case. Basically Trans and Sound Barrier are more reliable defensive ults. If your Mercy gets stuck in Graviton Surge, your team is screwed. Not so with Lucio or Zen. They have preventive / proactive ults that prevent death reliably. Mercy has a reactive ult and is forced to play hide and seek early. One second too late and no Rez for the team. Zen became reliable so yea. There's less opportunity cost in running Zen than Mercy.

Yea Shadowburn has been carrying his team quite often from what I see too. Also MVP space or whatever the Korean team is called is really good and deserve a much better global rank. They have significantly better coordination that is precise to a single second than most teams including Weunited. What they lack is pure DM though.

Oh yea Genji getting popular has to do with him not insta dying to McCree and having a reliable ult. Good burst damage is really a huge plus.

Lucio will always be top tier so long as he has a monopoly on Speed boosting, which is so crucial for KOTH maps. Not to
mention insane healing output (although burst healing is lackluster) and the best mobility in the game so you aren't dead if any flanker gets the jump on you. I do agree that Mercy's viability took a hit, I think we will see less of her on offense and KOTH maps with Zen taking her place (discord is the best non ult ability in the game, hands down). Rez though is still too crucial for defense and having the highest HPS is favorable since an early death on D is much more devastating than on offense.

Support-wise (not counting Symmetra because she is a different animal), Ana + Lucio / Zen + Lucio on offense escort sounds like the way to go with the Mercy + Lucio still working because res is still amazing. Zen + Mercy / Lucio + Mercy / Zen + Lucio + Mercy (triple heals may work better than people think right now just because Zen damage is Zen danage) for defense is what I would look for in ranked, although other combinations will work.

I agree with the Mercy on Defense statement although choosing between Ana and Zen of offense sounds like a fun thought experiment with nano boost recipients and aim being the big deciders. Zen will be better than Ana on defense though in my mind just due to him being able to focus down chokes far better than Ana can, the reliability of harmony orb, and transcendence being a more usefull defensive ult than nano boost. Ana can work, but I would much rather have Zen on the defense roster.

It's neat to see support players have options now though when deciding. I myself have always had to choose between Zarya and Hog if Rein was taken (even before hero limit ranked, 2 Reins felt iffy at best) with Zarya being better on offense escort and hog being the big man on defense. I'm still not sure where D.Va fits best due to certain objects the matrix doesn't destroy that leave her incapable of taking Rein's place. She is probably better on offense though just because she is versatile enough to do her old heavy assassin deal and stand front line. We'll see.

D.Va is pretty nifty in a 2 or 3 tank situation where you can combine her ult with AoE CC ults. I like her with Rein, Zarya, and Mei depending on the map. I think she's comparable to Winston in her role, both decent assassins with moderate damage absorption but D.Va has the combo potential. I like switching between the two on KOTH based on my own team's picks.

New patch rolled out and McCree's falloff range decreased by 10 meters and got a few buffs. fth fire rate buffed by 15% or 20% (i forgot), and the time to shoot after using flashbang is reduced from 0.5 to 0.35 seconds, so you can shoot 0.15 seconds faster after you flashbang.

Ana got buffs too, her rate of fire increased by 20% and now has 10 shots instead of 8.

Same

also I'm better at it than the actual game, and I get to play striker instead of goalie in lúcio ball hahah... my first game I scored like 3 own goals and then I figured out the mechanics, thank god my team was polite

just had like a 5min overtime and clutched it out, genuinely feels better than winning overtime in the game LOL. Maybe I should buy Rocket League? Idk I think having fun events is an important part of keeping the playerbase entertained, so this is a positive sign.

Tbh though there are a lot of goalie goals in lúcio ball and those are always the coolest inherently

I want his skins (he's my main anw), d.va's and genji's are really nice but I don't play them lol also Mercy's for when she's buffed...

yeah finally a good brawl that my friends list is actually playing. its always just people in quick play or ranked. kind of bummed out that the summer skins cant be bought with coins considering i have been saving them for new skins for characters i really enjoy.

i don't really want to spend money on lootboxes =/. im waiting to see if blizzard caves in and lets people buy them with coins even if its for a higher price

I'm seeing streamers buy hundreds of lootboxes just to get their hands on the flags (not even the skins). Blizzard are gonna need a lot of pressure on them to give people a free alternative to a cash cow like that.

Still have faith though especially considering opening crates for money isn't being looked on too kindly these days.

I must have levelled like 8 times today, gonna try and prestige during this event so I can reset that EXP curve. Got a bunch of icons and two summer skins I'm happy with, a Tracer legendary and the Mercy epic.

Also Lucioball seems to dish out EXP really fast, ~1500 per game.
