Passing a driver's test.

@The Diverman: Yes, I'm starting to think that too. It was more of a turn into the lane than a merge, I suppose. Something that minute barely seems to warrant an insta DQ, but fuck it's the DMV.

@Whistle: I think it's funny how blue the sky is.
Yeah, I was thinking same. I remember I had to take my learner's test 3 times, I swear the questions on that test are so vague. Thankfully(I use that word loosely) I had in-car through the my school and I only had to take it once.

Do they still tell you to hold the steering wheel at the bottom?

If you don't know what warrants an instant DQ, you shouldn't have passed the written exam in the first place!!!!! :D

I passed all of mine first time (L-plates, Provisional 1, Full License).

The Learner test is just a sign-recognition road-rules knowledge test. I decided to do one-last-practice on their website before I went out to do it, and got a battery of sign questions I hadn't seen before. I got several wrong on the practice, but then the actual test had those same ones in it so I passed.

My Provisional license test is a driving one; you normally have to do two or three manouvres, like reverse parking or three-point turns. You need to have logged 50 hours of driving time on your L-plates, and as it turned out the last lesson I had at 7-8am (my test was at 9am) just took me over the 50 threshold.

I actually broke the speed limit (instant fail) and still got my license; we'd been driving around for a while, and I'd only done the reverse park and a hill start, and she said "Okay, time to go back". I thought I must have failed already since we hadn't done the three-point turn. The road she directed us to was this long, steep, downhill road that leads into town right near the RTA office, but we got onto that road by driving up a perpendicular street that was uphill really steep. When I tried to turn onto the main road, I had to accelerate up the hill and turn sharply, and in doing so I hit the downhill section and my speed jumped to about 60-65kph, when the limit was 40kph. She said "Watch your speed", and my heart sank. It took us a minute or so to get back to the RTA and park, so I went inside fully expecting to fail.

To add more drama - my Learner's license expired in three days, so if I failed I would need to renew my Learner license. Even worse - under the new learner license regime, all new licenses need 120 hours of driving logged.

I went up to the counter, and she said "Congratulations - you're very lucky." As it turned out, the speedometer in my car is sunk into the dashboard. Consequently, if you're short and in the passenger seat as she was, you can't see the left side of the speedometer. As she couldn't write down what speed I was going at in that 40 zone, she couldn't penalise me for it. (I think it helped that I'd driven perfectly up to then, and it was right at the end of the test).

The full license test is a hazard-perception one. You basically get shown a series of videos, and you have to press the screen when it's safe to turn right, or when you would slow down. Basically, you just be super-duper extra cautious, and you can't fail.

Passing the speed limit an instant failure? Have these people ever actually driven? While it might be more dangerous to speed for young people who cannot drive well at all (which is why the driving test should be for 18 year olds), not speeding when everyone else is speeding is more dangerous than speeding.

Fishy you are so never driving my car again what the fuck

I had 5 of my 7 driving lessons and then my test in a PT Cruiser...I was so fucking mad.

i failed my test 4 times... probably cost me $1000 in driving lesson and test booking fees

and thats not even including the speeding and parking fines ive received since then xDDDDDDDDDD

Steelicks gets too involved in his own mind, sometimes having it ripped away altogether out of his control by darck forces...poor sap never stood a chance.

I'll bet CK looks amazing in a PT Cruiser.

Speaking of driving -- My daughter got her learners permit a few days ago, and I took her on her first driving lesson yesterday. I have decided that all future lessons will be in someone elses car. That way I won't be stressed out and have to yell when she is about to scrape my rims on the curb, or about to hit another car, etc. It will be a much calmer environment.

I remember having a few conversations with CK about driving.

CK do you still put on your blinkers only right as you engage in a turn, as if they still served much of a purpose at that moment?

Do you still time your approach to traffic lights so that you beam through them the split second they turn green disregarding that some dumbasses might be late on their green light in another direction?

I almost forgot how great of a driver you are.

Also because I'm here, I passed my driving test on my first attempt without any problem as would superior specimens!

ck i took you car on a joy ride with users: articuno64, Omega Donut, Ninahaza and myself. your vehicle saved us from hunger as we made our way to a denny's somewhere outside of the city. ty!!! ;D (also took it off roading and hit a coupla deer)

I drove down the wrong side of the street during my driver's test and I still passed. Probably because I'm boss at everything except avoiding oncoming traffic.

I think you must me getting the blinkers thing from someone else. I consider blinker use a necessary part of driving; drivers all have to be considerate of other drivers seeing as we are throwing around 2000-6000 pound vehicles that can kill each other.

I have never been remotely close to danger from any other sides of traffic but my own while whittling my speed down to catch a light right as it turns green. Cars on my side who decide to change to the open lane suddenly are the only danger, since you have less space within which to brake if this happens. I guess your driving must be really fucking lousy if you think a single car on any other side of traffic cannot be braked to be avoided.

Fortunately for me, if you took Drivers Ed in school and passed it with an A I believe, you just had to take this slip to the dmv and pass the written portion to get your license. Coaches make the best teachers yeah? Also somehow got my boating license at the same time.

ck is one of those guys who stops before a roundabout when theres nothing coming so you have to slam the brakes on to prevent crashing into the back of him

what about the people that are already driving in the roundabout and think they have to yield to people that want to enter???????

And what about those on their phones that pay no attention to the other cars at the roundabout (most often a mini-roundabout), don't give way when they're supposed to, and nearly crash into you. The roundabout at Morrisons near me is by far the hotspot magnet for things like this. I've almost died at least 8 times.

Try considering a new hobby; driving is really overrated. Have you thought about taking up croquet or possibly basket weaving?
