Metagame Passive Aggressive

For pokemon with good combination of moves and resistances this can make use of any of recoil moves that the pokemon can use:

For Flare Blitz: Volcanion, Magcargo (Shame for its 50 base attack.) and Hisuian Arcanine (if it isn't running Rock Head.)

For Wave Crash: Kingdra (This is the only pokemon that knows the move and has 1/4 resistance to water.)

For Wood Hammer: Alolan Exeggutor (Same thing with Kingra.)

For Brave Bird: Corviknight, Zapdos (I guess its 90 base attack is good for something.), Skarmory and Kilowattrel (Lol at its 70 base attack.)

For Head Smash: Scrafty (at least it can use this move without suffering too much recoil from it.)
Doesn't the recoil effectiveness depend on the pokemon's primary typing? (Not the recoil move's typing) mb I didn't see OP

Just for your information
And because I'm feeling in the mood for it today, here's a compilation of every pokemon that takes reduced Recoil Damage, for reasons I guess.

:sv/talonflame:
Another Pokemon with some potential in this metagame is Talonflame.
What makes Talonflame look pretty good here is that it has many great traits Moltres has but also has Defog (massively buffed thanks to Gholdengo being banned and hazards being more prominent).
Both Pokemon have;
  • Flying typing (avoids Spikes entirely and Hippowdon sand)
  • Fire typing (full immunity to burns and resists a ton of types)
  • Flame body (lets you burn Pokemon by switching in, making it more likely you’ll burn something that’ll be weak to your passive damage)
Both seem pretty good with such traits only having the drawback of being that they take 1/4th sand damage from Tyranitar’s sand (which with a metagame like this they can maybe run Safety Goggles if Tyranitar is too popular).
And while Moltres is far bulkier and stronger than Talonflame, it lacks a few other traits. Those being Defog and the ability to effortlessly outspeed Great Tusk. In case you need to burn Great Tusk yourself without investing so heavily into speed. This also means Talonflame is outspeeding and spreading burns on more Pokemon (anything ranging from 51-87, 50 is where defensive Moltres usually hits).
The main thing is Defog however. If you want a hazard remover, Talonflame is a pretty good choice because of the previously mentioned traits.

I have been enjoying this OM and as cool as the idea of type matchup hazards I think people get lost in the sauce of the idea. To me the true potential in this OM lies is being able to throw out high power moves and suffer minimal recoil. Hell an item I always competitively hated to use life orb is on several mons on my team. From my few days of playing I've been abusing rain with kingdra as getting to spam a 120 BP water move and taking 8.25% in recoil and 2.5% life orb is ridiculous. Damp rock not being banned frees up so much room to play around your rain turns and with most stealth rocks never being rock type anymore pelipper gets to be a strong asset in winning weather wars (all of you thinking of running rocks on TTar I hate you). Rest of the team is abusing grassy terrain through offensive means of wood hammer so rillaboom + ogerpon have been a menacing duo. Last two mons are magnezone abusing analytic steel beam and electrode hisui who I initially built the team around since grassy terrain boost chloroblast both mons take nothing in recoil and get to heal back through terrain while reducing earthquake damage. Honestly electrode hisui is the weakest link in the team due to the weak special attack it boasts but it can still get the job done.

[EDIT] Forgot to another mon I'm building a team around is Heatran as steel beam is so good and can handle the grass spammers

So I just recently realized these 3 are now somehow legal.
Terapagos doesn’t change much in this meta except that it can now clear funny Sand and also Rapid Spin hazards.
Annihilape, despite the existance of Stealth Rock of different types, still massively benefits from this meta because its more offensive sets get recoiless Life Orb.
It’s also buffed because Gholdengo is banned and Defog is more prominent to remove and spikes or rocks that’d cause it problems.
Then you got Regieleki, which is additionally slightly buffed because of Life Orb recoil becoming 1/20th of its HP, but also enables the other 2 if you so choose to run dual screens and Rapid Spins hazards away.

I’m just wondering why these 3 were considered for being allowed since nothing in this meta really makes them worse off.
Honestly thought Giratina-A would be considered for a drop in this Metagame. It has to contend with Spikes that can OHKO it, Stealth Rocks it can be weak to, its Will-o-wisp is actually weaker as I mentioned in previous post about partial trapping moves, and its not as much as an offensive powerhouse as these 3. It has Poltergeist and Draco Meteor and its coming off 100 offenses not boosted by abilities like Transitor.

Hey there everyone! Council have been hearing your cries, and working on trying to lower the overall power level, so with that, we are here with another voting slate!

Annihilape, Spectrier, Ursaluna-Bloodmoon, Landorus, and Terastallization have all been BANNED from Passive Aggressive!
These are all fairly obvious bans as they each have wreaked havoc on the OM for a good minute, but hopefully this is a healthy turn for the OM as we continue our OMotM reign!

I don’t know if this is something wrong with the builder or something else, but for some reason all tera types seem to be defaulting to their original types? Tera still works and my team has the correct types in it, but all of the types are just reset to the originals and I can’t fix it.
Other than that?
Sandy Shocks :Sandy shocks: is super cool I love that mon in this meta, electric hazards are really good into rain too.

Tera is banned now

New post for an unrelated question: is self-inflicted damage from curse affected by typing? Are fixed damage moves affected by typing?

Feel like adding good resource for teambuilding in showing which Pokemon provide what hazard type

Lol
Also any Pokemon here that learns Reflect Type can use any type of Hazard. This includes :mew: :gengar: :tentacruel: and :toedscruel:

Hope this helps people with teambuilding.

Cuddly, I don't mean to take away from your work, especially as you did TSpikes, but uhhhh I've got this created already, although it probably just got buried in the posts.
My previous post is slightly painfully formatted and doesn’t have everything I want to put in it, so I created this monstrosity of a post. Please let me know if I missed anything, or of other passive damage sources to add. I'm going to be adding a second part to this to add even more passive damage sources in a day or so.

Cuddly, I don't mean to take away from your work, especially as you did TSpikes, but uhhhh I've got this created already, although it probably just got buried in the posts.
Oh I see.
However I’d like to point out that Meowscarada and Greninja should have an * since what type their Spikes/T-spikes are depends on Protean, and Mew learns Reflect Type meaning it can technically use any type hazards. Additionally Annihilape is banned too so the list is updated.

Fair point, list is out of date, I'll get that patched up.

I've found a really strong combo of hazards to deal with Gliscor teams. Fist, the goat:

:sv/avalugg-hisui:
Avalugg-Hisui @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sturdy
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Mountain Gale
- Rapid Spin
- Recover

Ice-type Stealth Rock is actually really strong in this meta, especially when paired with Ground or Water Spikes from Gliscor or Quaqsire. Avalugg_H also has outstanding longevity paired with excellent utility. It punishing against Electrode-H and Gliscor spam. It does worse into weather teams though, but Water Absorb Quag is the amazing.

Some thoughts:
corviknight_f-gif.189563

Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Mirror Armor
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Defog
- U-turn

Flying type helmet is actually a substantial upgrade, discouraging rapid spin from the most prominent spinners in Great Tusk and the occasional Quaquaval (though that seems to have fallen off), and chunking mons like ogerpon (bar cudgel), rillaboom, meow, cc valiant, lokix etc. Brave bird is also a lot more spammable now with reduced recoil. Defog is essential in this metagame, and there's not much better competition. Just a very solid defensive option in general.

Sandy Shocks @ Life Orb/Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Earth Power
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch

Mamoswine @ Heavy-Duty Boots/Focus Sash
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard

Boltbeam hazards sounds nice on paper on offensive teams. LO Shocks hits very hard and is difficult to switch in to, with the main ones being bulky grass types, ground/flying types, and bulky dragons, all of which are chunked by stealth ice. Main issue is lack of defensive utility and lack of speed, especially against grass types like H-Electrode and Rillaboom, so pivot support is welcome. I've also seen some use Sandslash-A over Mamoswine for more resists, Rapid Spin, and better STAB in Triple Axle, though its special bulk and speed lets it down.

Enamorus (F) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Contrary
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Earth Power
- Mystical Fire/Superpower
- Healing Wish

Haven't tested with this too much, but a good offensive fairy seems really nice with ground type hazards from Gliscor and the like. Healing wish helps offset chip damage on sweepers late game. Clefable seems to be more popular, but its damage is lacking and its defenses can't keep up with all the high bp high recoil life orb boosted moves.

Want to share a team I've been using. It was pretty tough starting out because I had no idea what to do and I lost several battles testing, but this version of my team I think I've gone like 10-1 and got to 1250.

Avalugg Kills Gliscor

Avalugg-Hisui @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Mountain Gale
- Rapid Spin
- Recover

As said, Ice type Rocks are OP and destroys one of the tier's best Knock absorber, Gliscor, and heavily limits breakers like Electrode-H and Rillaboom. I've seen a lot of Mamoswine too, but I like Avalugg's increased utility and longevity. Mountain Gale does a decent amount of chip and facilitates the team's breakers excellently.

:Sv/gliscor:
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 244 HP / 36 Def / 228 SpD
Careful Nature
- Spikes
- Protect
- Earthquake
- Knock Off

The team's Knock absorber and Spikes setter. Ground-type Spikes are absolutely lethal when paired with Ice-type Rocks, as this blows through stuff like Heatran. Knock Off is mandatory in this tier.

:sv/hydrapple:
Hydrapple @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Fickle Beam
- Giga Drain
- Earth Power

Hydrapple is the best answer to Electrode-H in the tier, and Nasty Plot puts a lot of pressure on slower teams. Hydrapple is also an excellent check to rain, Ogerpon-W, and Rillaboom.

:Sv/slowking-galar:
Slowking-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Bomb
- Future Sight
- Toxic
- Chilly Reception

Slowking-G is the catch all Special wall and a great pivot. Toxic puts foes on timers and Future Sight is excellent with the Ground-type hazards, as it forces Steels in.

:sv/zamazenta:
Zamazenta @ Leftovers
Ability: Dauntless Shield
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 8 Atk / 248 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Substitute
- Crunch

Zamazenta pairs excellently with the Future Sight Pressure Slowking-G provides. Substitute IronPress is very punishing in this meta,, especially since so much progress is made passively. Crunch is for Ghosts.

:Sv/Zoroark-hisui:
Zoroark-Hisui @ Life Orb
Ability: Illusion
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Hyper Voice
- Shadow Ball
- Dark Pulse

This guy is a busted breaker and has plenty of good teammates to Illusion as, such as Slowking-G and Zamazenta. Dark Pulse is for opposing Zoroark-H. Also loves Ground-type Spikes destroying it's Steel checks.

Replays:
I'm pretty sure I've saved more but my opponents must have hid them. Nonetheless, these two replays are great examples of how well these hazards do.

Gliscor just dies to Future Sight plus Ice-Type Rocks:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9passiveaggressive-2240047274

Spikes doing a gazillion damage to Heatran will never not be funny:
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9passiveaggressive-2240032573

:pmd/azumarill: :pmd/altaria:

Given this tier relies a lot on residual damage, thus making stall teams 'more appealing', I feel like PerishTrap should be a more viable strategy given the passiveness. Especially since it can just nick off clefable like nbd if you survive long enough. It also does allow you to also just take out certain rockers like Gliscor without needing ice hazards

A funny interaction: Rocky Helmet on Corviknight after Roost does steel type damage instead of flying.
Not sure how it works with residual damage on that same turn though, I assume it's also based on steel type?

https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9passiveaggressive-2240954784 (Turn 28)
Funnily enough, this is consistent with "standard" play. If you gave Corviknight Dancer and Revelation Dance, the move becomes Steel type if immediately activated after using Roost.

I stumbled upon the same mechanic with Cramorant in an old room tourney: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9passiveaggressive-2226553252 (whirlpool damage alternates between water and flying)
