Pokémon GO

Just a heads up that my family is seriously considering to go to the UK for the first time ever in time for the Pokemon Europe international championship:

Europe International ChampionshipsFeb. 21–23, 2025ExCeL Center London1 Western Gateway
London E16 1XL
United Kingdom
If we can make it my son will be participating in TCG and myself in the Pokemon GO event so hope I can meet any of my friends planning to attend especially any lucky friends will know as we get closer in time.
Also a heads up if your local community is active, I think London would fall within Stonjourner spawn territory, could catch quite a few to trade with local friends (plus distance for XL on anything they send in exchange), Regionals tend to be popular trade topics in my experience and you can stock up if in the area.

That little suggestion out of the way, hope you do get to make the trip because getting to travel to take part in an event like this sounds like a great time participating and running into other friends.

That is so awesome. We are actually lucky friends. I don't live in England but I do visit every now and then. If I happen to be there during that period I will definitely let you know.

Did an absolutely insane amount of Zacian raids for these but then had excellent luck once Zamazenta arrived and ended up only having to use my daily passes. Now if only I could just find lucky friends to do mirror trades with...

...aaaaaaaaand Gigantamax incoming October 26th.

Hard pass on this for me unfortunately, no way I'm doing a six-star raid in person with three other people for a Venusaur.

All I can hope is that they eventually implement a Max Soup equivalent for the sake of the lucky hundo Dynamax Squirtle I got in a random trade last week.

Jealous! I wanted to do a bunch of Zacian and Zamazenta raids to get the shiny (mostly Zama, since I have Shield so I didn't get the distribution), but it just felt like I saw so few raids when I was actually out places with gyms. It's all clogged up with shadow raids now.

The few times there were some Zama raids around there was no one to do them. People don't accept remote raids invites as often anymore due to the nerf, and I never got into the whole Pokegenie thing of trying to queue up for random raids. Heading into the nearest city to try and do a bunch in person is also not really feasible for me right now.

Overall, the last two raid rotations might be the first time since the remote raid nerfs that I have really felt frustrated with the nerf. I mean, I saw this coming from day 1, it's just that Niantic hasn't put anything out since the nerf that I really wanted to raid a lot of and didn't manage to.

Ah, you should have asked me (if you'd known I was raiding them, that is)!

I have a policy of not doing remote raids for anything that cannot be shiny (just feels like too much expense for too little potential reward) but have nearly all legendaries in their shiny form by now so almost never buy remote passes; I also rarely feel the need to increase my Pokemon/item storage, so I had a ridiculous amount of coins saved up from gym defenders. Ended up spending a lot of them on remote passes for Zacian. They both could be trioed with relative ease so it wasn't too hard to find willing partners if I randomly sprayed invites to whoever was online. I have a baby account so my two and yours would probably have been able to take either of them out.

Unless there's anything phenomenally good in raids the rest of this year I'll hopefully claw most of those coins back before too long. We'll see what the next couple of months bring... Cresselia, maybe? We've not had regular Mewtwo in raids for a while either. Regieleki and Regidrago seem quite likely actually as both are Galar mons and they've not been in raids this year.

I'm anticipating something in November as a pre-Wild Area drain, since they know people are gonna want to raid hard for Toxtricity as a new Shiny and the returning Origins (both power players and Shiny Hunters). Could run the Regis with Shinies or an anticipated Shadow Raid Weekend (be it a new one or Mewtwo again).

Hard pass on this for me unfortunately
At first I felt the same about about megas, but at least you can use those in actual raids. With g-max tho, I will probably actually pass... I don't even have any of my Pokemon that are able to dynamax leveled up.

I might do them if I see a dynamax raid going on with people already in it. The max particles are free anyway so might as well spend them on something.

So I guess with shiny Meloetta available the masterwork research for the Unova tour is sorted. With the promise of more HOME distributions in the future presumably we'll get shiny Zarude and Pecharunt before the Galar tour and Paldea tours.

Lmao I have 15 Pokemon from the Blueberry dex that are ScVi native. It'll be a while before I get my greasy mitts on that Meloetta.

...oh wait, I already have the shiny registered. Never mind, no rush.

It would be pretty funny if the next time they do an update for this it's conspicuously before other tours
Like we all get ready for consistent updates over the next however many months and then the next one isn't out for nearly a year for idk Shiny Hoopa for the Z-A Dex completion and then oh hey. It's Kalos Tour, featuring Masterwork Shiny Hoopa instead of the Shiny Diancie we all figured.

I've seen two PokéStops disappear in the past two weeks. These were objects that have nothing weird or inappropriate to them; a fountain (that is still there) and a statue (that is also still there). These are the only two stops somewhat close to my house so this really sucks. What's going on?

Two important things I want to note with the raids.

1. Lugia is the first time in the game's history that I know of where a Pokemon has been rerun with an ETM Legacy Move in raids (exception for the Origins coming after which literally cannot get them any other way). Mostly a note of precedent being set/broken than relevance for itself.

2. Palkia and Dialga are available for a week that includes the Wild Area event, but must highlight They cannot get their moves after the 24th, so for the last 2-3 days they're around, they are strictly candy fodder

Where did you get this from? This is amazing info to know, but without me reading it from you I would have never known...

The infographic itself shows Palkia and Dialga as in raids from the 18th-27th, and the Raid Slides for the schedule and hours say they have a chance at the move from the 18th 10:00 AM until 24th 11:59 PM at the bottom in the same fine print as "if you're lucky you may encounter a shiny"

Sounds like G-Maxes are a total disaster. Even people with parties of 40 couldn't reliably take them down and you cannot transfer G-Max Pokemon to Home.

Lol yeah I just tried a Charizard with my two accounts (mainly for shigs) and the raid lasted all of twenty seconds with me not even doing enough damage to make a visible dent on the health bar

I did it with 20 people at my local park (though I can only vouch for half of them being particularly invested)

The big problem is that GMaxes are scaled with essentially Level 51 stats and a massive HP Pool, and unlike Raids, you ONLY get your 3 Pokemon, so you can't rely on a few strong players reviving their squad to carry damage. The infamous 30-group failures were likely composed heavily of players who threw advantageous-but-unleveled mons (in terms of their level and Max moves) at it hoping for sheer numbers to work.

On that note, I learned that GMaxes are about 100 BP stronger than th corresponding D-Max move (So Wildfire is 350 vs 250 at Level 1). So I think the intention was for people to struggle getting the first one with a big group, and then Snowball seeing how much harder their NEW Gmax starter hits than the one they already had.

A major problem of this system is that you can't invest in Max Move increases without costing yourself the Battl currency, which makes building stuff to get over the hump a lot harder.

I'm definitely going to sit out gigantamax unless they cave and do an overhaul like with megas. If I happen to be somewhere where people are already doing one I might try to join, but having to build a whole new set of mons for this mode isn't super appealing, especially when it's not particularly cheap to power them up.

It could have been interesting if the tera-leak covered some Pokemon GO stuff, because I would love to know if Niantic has actual data or modeling that supports design decisions like this, or if they are all just under the orders of execs who don't want to believe that the game is no longer something people are willing to schedule their lives around and has because something that most(?) people work into their schedule if possible. (I'm guessing the latter but that could just be my biased assessment given my own experience with the game as of late).

There was a huge meet up in the city today so I decided to go. Surely was a cringe fest but oh well. I managed to get all three Gigantamax Pokemon, but it sure was tough. We needed at least 30 people every time and it required strategies if it wasn't 40 people. You also won't beat it if the majority is just people leeching with shitty Wooloo or Grookey.

Can only read part of this article because of tge paywall, but it basically just reports what we already assumed: Niantic trying to force players back outside to harvest their sweet sweet location data. But wait! It's not (just) to sell to advertisers, they want to train a large "geospatial" model (a la large language models) on it. Which, of course they do, you can't be sitting on all that data in the year 2024 and not add a few tons of carbon to the atmosphere to run it through the AI machine.

But we can now join remote raids with friends through the friends list without an invite, so I guess it balances out </s>

I'm liking the latest new change which enables to join a raid that a friend is currently in the lobby for without requiring an invite. Too bad with this current event with origin palkia/dialga I have not yet gotten a single shiny, hundo nor one with signature moves, and now I am out of remote raid passes as I refuse to pay 195/525 coins for them even to this date but wait until there's a bargain sale for them permitting I have enough coins saved from defending gyms, etc...

Did the Wild Area event this weekend for a couple of hours both days, without a ticket - pretty lame, tbh, but I appreciated finally being able to do some Gigantamax raids since there were a lot of people present. It seemed dumb to do a Dynamax Toxtricity or a regular raid if I could get the Gigantamax versions. The Mighty Pokemon were more of a bonus than an attraction - none of the species were ones I was particularly desperate to get, so I largely wasn't fussed about getting them unless someone reported seeing a hundo on a scanner app. Actually managed to snag a surprising amount of them in Ultra Balls, and even one Electivire in a Great Ball.

Did catch a Galarian Moltres in a Safari Ball, though, so that's pretty cool. Collector's item.
