Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 2 (In-Game Discussion)

This is kinda off-topic but having an R4 isn't a crime (unless Nintendo wins their lawsuit and manages to take it off the market but even so the consumer wouldn't be at fault). The crime is pirating games (a.k.a. playing ROMs of games that you didn't buy) and the punishment depends on the laws of your country but I suppose that it is jail or some kind of fine.

As far as I know, I can have a ROM here in Brazil as long as I have the original game. I'm going to buy the English version, so whatever.

But it's not like they'd get send me to jail for this, really >_>

Another thing, trading the rotoms to D/P does not change their form.

Depending on the item attached it will just replace the elemental attack?

Errm, what the hell. How do you know that?

Because the guy who got the rotoms told me. Its SCV from pokesav.org. He is in their IRC right now. irc://irc.defianceuo.com/pokesav

He said he will tell me how to get them after someone post some video. Then we can all verify it.

The second part was just speculation.

Depends on your country's laws, but you probably wouldn't be sent to jail for copying the game.

It's copyright infringement so that generally means it falls under civil (and not criminal) law. In other words, monetary compensation. (Generally higher than the price that would have been paid for the product, otherwise there's no penalty in being caught.)

However, I am not a lawyer so don't take that as legal advice.

I find it to be quite unfortunate that so many people are downloading the game instead of buying, but I can't really condemn the action either. I could easily afford the ~$70 to pre-order and next-day ship. Not everybody here can.

(On that note, game arrived yesterday, started last night, currently standing just inside the Veilstone gym with a level 63 Infernape and a level 50 Staraptor.)

Onto official information:

According to the official web site's My Pokémon Ranch page, the game will be re-released with the necessary upgrade to allow compatibility with Platinum. Players who already own the game will get the upgrade for free. It is unknown when this change will take place.

This page proves that I was right about the five silhouettes (which we now know to be Rotom's alternate forms) being event Pokémon that are banned from official tournaments. It lists Rotom as one of the ineligible Pokémon; surprisingly, this also includes the original form.

I would imagine that the in-game Battle Frontier is more sophisticated and only bans the five new forms, while admitting the non-event Rotom. Incidentally, we are still yet to know if the the ban on Sky Forme and Origin Forme in Platinum-Platinum Wi-Fi battles has been lifted now that the game has been released.

But how? D/P doesn't/shouldn't/can't have their sprites in the game or we'd known about them a long time ago?

That's what I said. He said that the sprites are not there but he thinks they had planned for these extra forms when they made D/P based on certain behavior he saw when looking at rotoms data in a hex editor.

What exactly is he claiming, then? That Rotom retains the improved base stats even when traded to Diamond and Pearl?

BTW why I came here:

Look at Cheryl's sprite. She looks f'ing drunk. O__o
:justin2:

Patch update.

Remember Berry Glitch? Might be something like that.

But I'll only believe what I see with my own eyes, on the 28th. Hope the Wi-Fi distribution won't be restricted to Japan (as people from all over the globe had imported it, and they know it).

Awww, that's no fun! And you are correct we have yet to see if Wifi's been fixed.

Hmm... maybe. Seems irregular for Nintendo to do something like this though. Maybe, just maybe...

No. It becomes the regular rotom but "remembers" that it was the other form. When you send it back to platinum you don't get the normal form. You get the one you traded.

That, of course, makes sense, but at first you phrased it in a confusing manner.

I have talked to SCV myself; he is in the process of hacking the Secret Key item in order to experiment with form changing. It is possible now that Rotom actually evolves into one of its new forms, returns to its regular form when traded to a Diamond/Pearl cartridge, and then back to the same new form when traded to Platinum. That would make the Secret Key a one-time-only item (per a Rotom); it would also render the different forms distinguishable from one another (their moves would not be interchangeable).

Okay, how soon should I order Platinum? Accounts such as Paypal usually require 3-5 days for bank verification...

Is it possible that play-asia would sell out of Platinum before then?

So you're able to trade/battle with Rotom's alternate forms? Why not Skymin, then?

Can someone who knows Japanese tell me what this says?

Probably a difference in the structure of the PKM files on each of them, although I will see if I can figure it out once SCV tells us how to get the other forms of rotom.

We only know that Rotom's forms can be traded to Diamond and Pearl by reverting to the original form. That much is not different from Sky Forme and Origin Forme's cases, but the game is programmed to remember Rotom's true form and change it back as soon as it is returned. It probably implies that once the Secret Key has been used, Rotom's form remains fixed in Platinum.

The Rotom forms haven't been experimented in battles yet. They probably behave in the same way as Origin Forme and Sky Forme do (reverting no matter what). That said, have you tried repeating your test over Wi-Fi? The game has already been officially released in Japan.

With land shaymin's ability as natural cure, and being unable to use key items in battle, why is it mentioned that it cannot be frozen to use the flower that evolves it? isn't it impossible for natural cure poke's to be frozen out of battle?
