Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

I swear they turned up the hax in Platinum, at least for in-game battles. Cyrus' Weavile froze 3 of my pokemon with Ice Punch.

Thunder Punch for Charizard--its about friggin time......might inspire me to start again with a bellyzard team!!!!

Anyway, lots of cool stuff, probably the most momentus being outragemence, as many have already iterated.

These could all just be coincidences too, guess we'll find out in time...if double team is in fact improved, well BF is gonna suck with all the hax ?_?

You know, that's a really good idea lol. Better than my Skarm/Bliss/Cress Battle Tower team that just gets itself haxed to hell.

Heh, I went with Shedinja/Shuckle/Milotic once.

Shuckle and Milotic down to hax, and Shedinja... well, let's just say that suddenly every opponent had Spikes/SR on their Pokémon.

):

I'm used to the lame hax, so I always go with Gyarados, Lucario and Azelf... Gyarados stops those set-up pokemon, Specsluke is just awesome because of Aura Sphere, and Azelf rapes after one Plot.

My streak was about 50, but then there was a brightpower Magnezone and it killed Gyarados because EQ missed, and then their second pokemon was Feraligator and it got Quick Claw Focus Blast on Lucario and Quick Claw Hydro Pump critical hit on Azelf.

Hypnosis is learned by a lot more pokemon than sleep powder (mostly grass) and spore (learned by 3 pokemon). So I guess it kinda makes sense for GameFreak to reduce the accuracy of hypnosis seeing it was so widely used in DP.

By the way, does Double Team function differently in Platinum? In a Double Team Starapter v. Roost Scizor war against my rival, I missed a total of 33 bullet punches before finally landing one.

33 misses from a 100% accurate move following just 2 double teams (it set up one during the first turn when I missed Crobat's hypnosis, and another one as I switched to Scizor) seems a bit, odd.

Welcome to ingame battles in Platinum. Think Stadium 2 all over again, if my playthrough was any indication.

Sorry to go off on a tangent to the current conversation but…

Omastar: Mud-slap, Ancientpower, Earth Power, Iron Defense, Dive, Icy Wind, Knock Off, Snore

…I thought this was quite an interesting piece of information. Rain sweeping Omastar finally gets a special attack to cover both Toxicroak (and Qwilfish?) and Lanturn in UU, OHKOing and 2HKOing respectively, whilst leaving the Hidden Power slot free. Omastar just became a lot more difficult to counter on Rain teams IMO.

Earth Power is definitely a good addition to Omastar's move pool :).

If Shoddy were to emulate D/P Hypnosis, it would have to ban Skymin and Oratina from being used, since they cannot be used in a D/P vs. D/P battle. Since a lot of people are going to want to use those two, it'll be 60%.
How about Shoddy keeps the 70% accuracy unless you/your opponent have the alternate forms?

Wouldn't that kinda be a giveaway of your team? For what it's worth I think the many appreciated tutors is worth screwing over hypnosis
