Hey all!

Today is the day! We have been made aware from very talented and trustworthy people that data dumps will begin starting from today. I'll be trying to keep on top of this thread until Nexus appears later on! This thread will get bigger, but please check the OP and related posts for updates!

Pokemon
Notable Pokemon return and other Pokemon get GMaxes - 35 more Pokemon, taking the dex to 435. New additions include other Kanto Starters, Alola Starters, Jirachi, a mishmash of Gen 5 Legends, a handful of Alola legends and Meltan/Melmetal. Take the Alolan Formes of Galar Mons as a pinch of salt. The differences in mini sprites makes it look odd.

New Gigantamaxes (Currently unknown if Obtainable): Machamp, Snorlax, Melmetal, Orbeetle, Sandaconda, Toxtricity

Starter Hidden Abilities:
Rillaboom - Grassy Surge
Cinderace - Libero (New ability; same effect as Protean)

Confirmation from Data mine:
Rapid Spin A spin attack that can also eliminate such moves as Bind, Wrap, and Leech Seed. This also raises the user’s Speed stat.
PLG (LGPE) changes to moves were reverted (sorry about Teleport), Rapid Spin was buffed to 50 power, Multi-Attack (Silvally Sig) is now 120 power

Teleport apparently kept its LGPE iteration and the above text is incorrect.
Weight Based moves do not work on Dynamax/Gigantamax Pokemon (Heavy Slam etc)

I'm really happy with that selection of legendaries. They left out most of the really OP ones, but still left us with a nice selection to play with. Ubers will be able to exist healthily with this selection.

Interesting that Ultra Necrozma got removed, but I suppose it is basically a mega. Does that mean Necrozma's two key items and the DNA splicers are still in?

Removing Return and Hidden Power is really surprising, though they vastly reduce the complications associated with using Ditto.

So they introduce a new Pokemon with an ability that ignores Me First (among others) and a new move that ignores Me First (among others) and now Me First isn't even in the game?

EDIT: OK Guys, I mixed up Follow Me and Me First, I am sorry. Shame on me.

You're thinking of Follow Me, Me First is a move along the lines of Mirror Move and Copycat where if you're faster than the opponent you can steal and use their move
EDIT: Shedinja'd

What special attacker in Gen 8 could even break a Toxapex/Ferrothorn core now that Hidden Power Fire is gone?
Mostly any mon that can deal with Pex and has decent enough fire coverage. Moves like Mystical Fire got a TR version, so some mons might get it - or other moves - as new fire coverage.
Hidden Power being dead hurts a lot, though.

What's interesting to me is that exactly zero non-Z-move legendary signature moves have been removed.

Though also, basically all -ate users are gone
Sylveon, but it mostly runs special sets. TBH, it does introduce mindgames with Transform, and the user has no way of knowing what its current power is. They also tended to be OP for ingame runs. I expect those are why they got cut.

Annoyingly, we will still have to breed for 0 IVs on Trick Room mons by the looks of it.

I'm not very happy at some of the moves that got removed, but let's hope Mystical Fire and some other coverage moves gets widely distributed to make up for the loss.
I would argue that aside Hidden Power, none of those moves were ever used for coverage... or used at all.
Pursuit Return and SkyDrop are the only moves that saw real competitive usage outside of fringe cases or meme sets.

And the removal of Hidden Power, on top of further breaking the need to softreset/breed, removes a very very obscure and unintuitive mechanic from the game, plus allows to actually expand special movepools in the future without having to think of the "omnipresent" 60 BP attack.

I don't know how to feel about this
Hidden Power gone is fine for me, I never really liked that move ^^"
Return/Frustration is ... interesting, never really disliked it as a move, only curious about the usage of other normal type STABs like Body Slam.
So many legends and mythicals are returning (most likely per event) ... and I was happy to have a meta without them. Welp, can't be helped, I guess :"D

but I love the fact we'll see more Gigamax Mons, especially Sandaconda (I think that's the name), Toxels evolution and Melmetal
