BTW, it has been revealed by the American Official Pokemon website that the VGC will be held in June, 2010. They also mentioned it's in Indianapolis.

I believe that's actually the TCG Nationals Date. They didn't say anything about having the Pokemon VGC there. Not that I saw on their FAQ or anything.

I think im going to scrap my original team plan and just got for the common and use rain.... it seems like the dominant team type to use...

Not a bad idea.
No matter what anyone says, it is really the most consistent team theme.
There are other great ideas though...what was your original plan if you don't mind me asking?

I was going to use hail, with a bronzong, ho-oh, palkia, and abomasnow mainly because abomasnow is WAY slower than kyogre and groudon, but apparently it gets slaughtered by sandstorm.... so i just scrapped it.

sandstorm sucks yep but it's the least common weather imo, so you could give it a try.
plus, if you don't mind you could try anti-weather team since that team looks awefully close to becoming an anti-weather team :)

im probably using a trick hail, brave hariyama/quiet abamosnow/relaxed noir/quiet glaceon, but im thinking of the ubers may be a problem even with specs glaceon firing off 100% blizzards, so should i add some ubers, like a quiet dialga, but who would i take out?
i personally dont think you NEED ubers to win, but im not sure if i can handle uber power without them.

I think dialga would work well as the TR set up poke. dusknoir seems like dead weight after it gets it up. plus you'll have at least 1 uber.

@lordkira, I might consider that anti weather team. maybe I could fit it into my rain team since I can use 6 pokes on a team sheet IIRC... so it's 2 teams in 1 :)

To be honest, not to interrupt the on-going conversation, but I really hope that they have a better way of picking players for these tournaments, as in, extending the amount of open spots for players or something. It would suck for any of us to put any amount of effort into these teams just to not be able to play.

I see a lot of Snorlax using Selfdestruct in this thread, which makes me wonder, where is Lickilicky with Explosion? I've done the math, and I'm pretty sure if an Adamant Lickilicky with a Silk Scarf uses Explosion, it has the highest EBP of all time aside from things like Shuckle using Power Trick, Defense Curl and Rollout or what have you.

Snorlax's stats are overall much better than that of likilicky and is really is.
It's like using Salamence...when you now have the superior option of using Rayquaza.

Hey, how do the rotom forms sound for this years VGC? IIRC they are allowed since HG/SS can give the rotom key to anyone without an event. Im guessing people would use the wash, heat, and frost forms for rain, sun, and hail respectively. I thought of this support rotom-w set:
Rotom@Leftovers/Light Clay?
-Hydro Pump
-Thunder
-Light Screen
-????
Maybe another screen or Will-O-Wisp to cripple groudon... just an idea. how does it sound?

that actually sounds pretty decent, lots of immunities.

i would probably say another screen or maybe substitute to avoid dark void and other status, cant say for sure because idk what the rest of your team looks like.

Hey, how do you guys think Miltank would fair?

I've been running around PBR wifi at night with a random team I threw together, and I haven't been losing. Mostly because of my insane life orb Weavile and an EQ Miltank. I mean, she's basically a bit less of a blissey with higher speed, yes? Body Slam hits for pretty good stab and usually ends with paralysis...which I think is useful because status moves seem to be a waste of a turn this year.

She's pretty bulky, and can be switched in on Shadow Forcing Giratina. Mine has Thick Fat though, so no Scrappy. I have Zen Headbutt for them. So far she's done very well at absorbing Boltbeam and such. I admit, EQ does very little when she uses it, but it's fairly surprising. Milk Drink is fast recovery, which I know is frowned upon in VGC, but she's bulky enough to survive after she does it.

I have an interesting encounter though. I faced a Japanese team (consisting of Giratina/Palkia leads, Dialga and Infernape) just last night with a team of Gengar/Weavile leads, Miltank, and to a lesser extent, Cacturne. I was able to protect/hypnosis/mess with them for a long time, and scored crit Night Slashes on Giratina and Palkia, which turned into a OHKO with added STAB and Life Orb power. It was funny, I'm pretty sure he was a bit pissed. Especially since Gengar never missed with Hypnosis and always followed up with a sub. xD

I ended up winning when Gengar went down and Miltank came in to clear the field with EQ and just wouldn't die. I just had to lol at my crazy mismatched team...

Any of you have strange stories involving strange teams?

OH, and while I remember, are any added speed EVs needed on a Swift Swim Modest Ludicolo in the rain with Kyogre? Or will he outspeed just fine without them? What about Groudon w/ no rain? Thanks!

does anyone think that hidden power fighting mismagius is going to be any good this year, especially since she has nasty plot or is she just to weak to even try?????

In my opinion, she's just too weak to stay in long enough to actually be able to use it. I guess it depends when you plan on sending her out. I think she'd last if she was in with a Fake Out partner, but surviving more than one or two turns would be a bit tough. With that speed and SpAtk, she'd probably be able to get something off before going down, but HP fighting would not be a first choice of move in this.

Nasty Plot is risky, as is any other stat booster move in the VGC. I suppose, if you could do a follow me sort of thing, you'd get in a good STAB Shadow Ball, or even a Nasty Plot'd thunderbolt on Kyogre. That's assuming you lead. :/

I dunno, I've never even thought of using Mis.

I've seen people use Gastro Acid on their partner in PBR. Here is a video I found on youtube (The quality is horroble, btw):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQTeTsYMijg
It shows Cradily using Gastro Acid on it's Slaking Partner. I guess Bulbapedia just made a mistake.

I'm new to 2 on 2 competitive battling. Anyone want to help me? It would be greatly appreciated. :)
I don't think the VGC is the best place to start Doubles for the first time...but this article from Smogon should help some:

http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/double_battles

One of the main differences between doubles and singles is that Entry hazards (Stealth Rock, Spikes) are rarely used because there isn't alot of switching, so a spin blocker/Rocker/Spiker/Rapid Spinner aren't needed.

I'm a quick learner. I've got plenty of time. I just need help with what pokemon have chemistry with each other. I'm wanting to use Mewtwo.

Alright. BTW, are you new to competitive doubles, or competitive battling altogether?

If your using Mewtwo, there are still plenty of options for the rest of your team. Mewtwo's move pool + stats let it fit snugly in most teams. Grass Knot is recommended, and commonly used, because his excellent special attack and Grass Knot's power boost from all the heavy Ubers in VGC. Blizzard if you think Hail will be up, Thunder if you partner him w/ or fear Kyogre (who is finished by Grass Knot, all the same), and Grass Knot also dents Groudon. Aura Sphere is also recommended, taking care of Dialga, Tyranitar, and Lax.

Something very important in doubles is too make sure that your 2 Pokemon don't get in each others way. Don't send out Groudon and Smeargle and have Groudon finish off his own partner w/ Earthquake.

Also, no matter how bulky a Pokemon is, it won't stand long if it's constantly attacked by both of the enemy's in the same turn. That's why Recovery and Status aren't used so much.

Rein, what about Palkia instead of ludicolo?

That's actually a good idea. Iwas thinking something similar earlyer today but wasn't 100% sure who to use. Ludicolo was just a filler to screw Kyogre.

A set of Flamethrower/Fire Blast, Protect, Spacial Rend and Thunder/Surf could work pretty well.

I'm pretty much new to competitive battling in general, but I know all the IV/EV stuff.

Anyways do you have any suggestions for a team with Mewtwo? I'm not sure what other uber I could use that would work best with him. Or even a few team recommendations I could toy around with?
