3DS games always look horrible in 2D recorded video. They look far better in-game. Not entirely sure why since they always look better on the 3DS even in 2D.
 
wow pretty surprising news, thought for sure this would be the Ruby/Saphire remake.
Grass starter looks a little like Oshawott with the face and body. Fire starter looks the coolest hopefully its indeed Fire Psychic.
making me think hard about getting a 3DS
 
Chespin looks like Oshawott and Slowking had a threesome with a leaf
Fennekin is Vulpix with attitude
Froakie is a smoothed out Seismotoad

i hope we get grass/fighting instead of grass/ground for that starter.
the fire looks nice, agreeing with all of you that fire psychic is potential, while not wanting another fire/fighting...

the frog is interesting, when i see him, i think water/flying, with that mane on his back resembling a cloud. i was trying to break down his name, but im not sure what the AKIE could truly be from. my best guess was "frog sky" to match my hypothesis.


fennekin = fennek fox + kin(dle)

chespin ... i dont know... che + spin ? maybe some sort of burrowing = spin, so he could be ground.



either way, excited for this news. means i need to finally update to the 3DS....

Okay lets see what we got... this is just speculation...

Fennekin's final evolution Fire/Psychic, his appearance is Fennec Fox, Fenix and stuff (telekinesis).
Froakie's 's final evolution Water/Ice or Water/Fighting, looks like santa, or some kind of weird ninja.
Chespin's final evolution Grass/Ground, his appearance is all about Spinning, drill looking legs, some kind of mole?

Pokemon Y legendary Bird that looks like Geni trio and little bit Yatagarasu. Yatagarasu has 3 legs, legendary bird has 3 wings.
Pokemon X legendary Elk that looks like Musketeer trio.

Totally with you on the water + flying track, but i think the -akie is mostly to make its name sound like "croak," the sound a frog makes. Imagine its name rhymes with "croakie." So he's essentially Steve Irwin.
 
Maybe all of the starters will be monotype again and we won't be stuck with another Fire/Fighting starter.

Chespin looks pretty promising; hopefully GameFreak delivers on this one.
 
Another interesting thing based on a post i saw on tumblr, but as it has been pointed out, X and Y not only relate to DNA, but also to the dimensions of space, along with Z. While the Great Forest Spirit is obviously land-based (width) and the flying legendary is sky-based (height), the 3rd legendary in the trio could possibly be some interpretation of depth, or of some alternate dimension. (Time isn't a dimension, but i'll let it slide for now, if that's how you wanna view it.) My best guess would probably be depth as in underwater, also forming a nice land + sea + sky trio.

pokemon x and y arent the best titles imaginable but hey, what happened to following tradition and going with something like pokemon jewel and gem :?

Did they really just rip that deer out of Princess Mononoke? It looks almost the same! I know it's Japanese legend anyway, but still I hope Hiyao Miyazaki (sp?) got some royalties for that.

Also I haven't even bought B2/W2 yet, this seems early. Although I've been wishing for 3D overworld for years now, glad it's finally happening!

As for the starters, if they plan to give out useful type combos, I hope they do so for all 3 and don't neglect one of them like they've done before. Like, if they make it Water/Electric and Fire/Psychic, I hope they don't ruin the grass starter (like always) by making it Grass/Flying. Grass/Fighting would be cool methinks, or Grass/Steel.
