Pet Mod RBY CAP (CAP 3 - Competitive Learnset)

Alright, so nothing changed just as I would figure. The winning trio is Cloyster/Articuno/CAP1! And with that, we're done with the Concept portion of this CAP.

CAP 1: Matchup Spread Phase
A little bit of this has already been solved. CAP1 should beat Cloyster, and it should lose to Articuno. But what else should it ideally need to beat or lose to? This is the slate where this all will be discussed. There will most likely be no voting as opposed to a general consensus being met about CAP1's matchup against each Pokemon. Anyways, you are free to discuss whatever you feel about this topic starting now!

Some intitial ideas. Note: These matchups are based on the idea of CAP being a special-attacking grass + ice/water type with a speed stat between base 70 (Cloyster's speed) and base 85 (Articuno's speed).

Tauros - Losing: Since CAP will be slower than Tauros and probably won't be the bulkiest, I don't imagine it'll be able to switch in and take out Tauros.
Snorlax - Even: It'll outspeed lax and threaten it with strong special attacks, but can't take many of it's body slams
Chansey - Losing: Since CAP is primarily gonna be a special attacker, I don't imagine it beating Chansey
Starmie - Even: I imagine this will probably be like Victreebel's matchup, in the sense that it'll lose if Mie isn't paralyzed, but will win if Mie is paralyzed
Exeggutor - Depends on type: If it's grass/ice it'll have a good MU against Eggy, if it's grass/water not so much.
Alakazam - Losing/Even: Alakazam's high special will most likely be able to take the special attacks, while dishing out heavy special damage in return, but CAP can probably deal with a weakened Alakazam
Zapdos - Losing/Even: If CAP is an Ice-Type it Threatens Zapdos with STAB Ice moves, but regardless of type, it'll be outsped and threatened by Drill Peck.
Rhydon - Winning: Grass beats Rock, pretty self-explanatory
Cloyster- Winning: Lol
Jynx - Even: This one's pretty interesting imo: It'll be slower than Jynx most and it'll be hit Neutrally with Blizzards while threatening with Razor Leafs in return.
Gengar - Even: Another interesting one, Gengar's high special and grass resistance will help here, but it doesn't threaten CAP offensively that much in return (apart from sleep of course)
Slowbro - Winning: Gets destroyed by Razor Leaf
Articuno - Losing: Lol
Lapras - Winning: If Cloy has a hard time against CAP, then Lapras will also probably struggle.
Victreebel - Depends on Type: See Exeggutor
Persian - Losing: Similar to Tauros, CAP struggle to switch into Persian's slash
Moltres - Depends on Type: Will be Winning/Even if Grass/Water, will be losing if Grass/Ice
Dragonite - Depends on Type and Speed: Fast Grass/Ice can easily take on Dragonite, while other typings will have a shakier matchup
Golem - Winning: See Rhydon
Porygon - Winning: Razor Leaf will likely 2HKO Porygon

This feels kinda weird given that the CAP has to beat one Ice-mon and lose to another (and both run Blizzard and Normal coverage), but anyways. Discussing matchups without confirming a type seems also like a strange order to do things given that the type usually infers the matchups.

The mon should have some method of dealing with Explosion (so it should have a decent matchup vs Golem, Egg, Gengar and maybe Lax). This also gives it some decent defence against the Normals (since it either has a high defence or is Ghost; Rock might work but it can't have STAB and needs a second type to resist Clamp, which really shoehorns us into certain type combos), and so its matchups against Tauros and Persian are good by proxy. Also, it should also be fast enough to avoid Clamp trap (so 71+ speed). This would also improve its matchup vs Victreebel (also 70 speed) and Dragonite (if it goes above 80).

Given that this positive matchup spread is incredibly good (good matchups against Tauros, Lax, Egg), it should probably end up with a losing matchup against Starmie, Alakazam and, maybe, Jynx to even out its matchup chart. Its speed should be on the lower end (between 71-84) and given that it can't be weak to Ice (since it has to beat Cloyster), it should be weak to Psychic.

So we're trying to win against Cloyster and lose against Articuno, while figuring out the other matchups as well? I guess we should lose against the Normals, depending on our CAP's typing.

Seems there's not much else to say. With that, let's move on!

CAP 1: Typing Phase
Submissions for this part will work exactly like submitting a concept. Make sure you submit a typing, ideally in bold for your post, and try your best to explain why CAP1 should have that typing. I'll give a few days for you all to make your posts! See you then!

Grass/Ghost
While this typing is weak to Blizzard from Cloyster, its also weak to Blizzard from Articuno. It is also immune to Cloyster's Explosion and Clamp. With high enough Special and HP, this typing fairly easily lives one Cloyster Blizzard and kills it with a Grass move which is Special targeting Cloyster's weaker side. While this typing isn't the best at beating Cloyster, it does beat it, especially if it switches in on a Normal move, and is still weak to Articuno's Blizzard. This also adds another Ghost type other than the Gengar line.

Grass/Ice

I've stated this idea before, and I still stand by it. The Grass Typing is self-explanatory, hits Cloyster Super-Effectively and Articuno not-very Effectively. It also resists Cloyster's Clamp which is nice. However, I'm not a fan of making CAP weak to Blizzard. If it is weak to Blizzard, it can only switch in up to 2 times against Cloyster's Blizzard (unless you give it god-like HP and Special). This means the secondary type should be either Ice or Water. I like Ice more because it gives an immunity to Freeze, meaning it won't get haxed by Cloyster when it switches in. In addition, the Ice typing will provide it with a dual STAB of 110 BP Grass/Ice moves. This STAB combination has perfect coverage so I feel like this typing will make CAP a viable Pokemon even outside of checking Cloyster.

As for the ghost typing...
I've heard people discuss a potential ghost typing for CAP both in this thread and in the RBY Discord in order to be immune to Cloyster's Explosion. I disagree with this idea. An explosion immunity shouldn't be necessary in order to counter Cloyster. If Cloyster has to die to kill CAP, then CAP has accomplished its job in my opinion, as it allows CAP's teammates to deal with no Cloyster on the enemy team. Alakazam and Starmie are still considered Gengar checks even though Gengar can still explode on it, Porygon is still a Snorlax check even though Snorlax can explode on it, Exeggutor is still considered a Golem check even though Golem can explode on it. What makes CAP an exception? A ghost typing isn't necessary to be considered a Cloyster counter.

Water/Dragon

Neutral to Blizzard, 4x resistant to Clamp. Water-typing also neutralizes Dragon's Electric resistance, keeping it from unintentionally checking Electrics. Stats can be tailored so Articuno 3HKOs CAP but Cloyster 4HKOs. With a Razor Leaf that 2HKOs Cloyster along with higher Speed (and that 4x Clamp resist), it should make for an effective check to Cloyster without threatening Articuno.

You may now vote! Voting here will work the same as the first concept phase, vote for as many options as you want in order from most to least preferred.
