Pet Mod RBY CAP (CAP 3 - Competitive Learnset)

The 24 hour remainder period is over for voting! The scores are in! Amaranth's stat spread wins the vote, with the voting process being seen here. Thank you to everyone that voted. This result means that our CAP1 shall have a stat spread of:
HP: 100​
Attack: 60​
Defense: 50​

CAP 1: Competitive Learnset Phase
We can now move on to the competitive learnset phase. Here we shall decide which moves to include in CAP 1's movepool, specifically pertaining to ones with the goal of competitive balance. Filler/Flavor moves are to be decided in the Flavor Learnset phase, so only moves that could seriously be considered for the pokemon's main sets (or moves that could seriously change the pokemon's matchup spreads) should be submitted in this phase. Simply post a list of your submitted moves, bolded, as we have done for the previous phases. The submission phase will last a minimum of 4 days, but if discussion is particularly lively then we can extend it.

These include all of the moves that fit the prompt and I could see being viably run on a set, being Ice Beam, Razor Leaf, Body Slam, Rest, Substitute, and Hyper Beam. Any other moves I think either do not fit (Blizzard breaks the Triangle MU) or would be covered in flavor/filler (Toxic, Aurora Beam, etc). The main contention point is Stun Spore. Stun Spore doesn't break the Articuno MU due to the presence of Agility, and the Pokemon has such poor Normal MUs that I think it would not overreach to have the option. It would also diversify its gameplan from simply being RL + Freeze, which I find desirable.

this is the same as pac’s list except without stun spore. theres been some discussion about stun spore with differing views so i figure having both options for voting.

without stun spore, i think cap basically has two competitive movesets, dual stab sub rest and dual stab bslam hbeam. maybe some mixing and matching like sub + bslam. obv sets would be played at least somewhat differently but the matchup spreads are generally consistent.

stun spore flips the tauros matchup, but it has some potential downsides, particularly paralyzing chansey, when caps only way of threatening chansey is freeze fishing. so it wouldnt be on every moveset. the variance in the tauros matchup could be argued as positive or negative. maybe it pressures the opponent to initially try to make cap rest (probably with chansey/zam) and only if sub + rest is revealed do you maybe use tauros to pressure it, tho perhaps stun spore / ice beam / sub / rest could also be a moveset since ice is neutral vs much of the tier but idk that seems unlikely bc of starmie.
if there is no good way to scout cap for stun spore then it seems a bit more random @ whether to use tauros to break cap.
(snorlax is ofc also a potential option for breaking cap, tho lax doesnt always have hyperbeam. if snorlax is used more than tauros to break cap then maybe stun spore isnt even that important (and therefore would rarely be run even if it is within caps learnset).

in retrospect maybe a slightly higher attack stat (i think a different spread had 70 attack) wouldve been better bc as is hyperbeam barely outdamages razor leaf against zam and bslam is very weak, but even as is i think stun spore is likely to make interactions with cap more inconsistent / less competitive, as body slam is likely to be better than stun spore in every situation/matchup except vs tauros which would make stun spore basically a niche move specifically to catch a tauros guessing the moveset wrong.

im ‘less’ opposed to stun spore than i was a few weeks ago tho

Mostly copied from Ika's but with a few changes: I added Night Shade, a somewhat inconsequential change because it already has some decent coverage and is only a 4HKO on Arti, Hypnosis for tradebacks only (Should it be flavor if it can't be used?) and also it can run a full Parafusion set. IMaybe might be off concept? It's probably not going to get enough flinch to break Arti with Stomp/It can just switch out. I can probably switch it out if anyone wants. I kind of wanted to add Psychic but I don't think that'd fit
