Riolu

[Overview]

- Good attack, but mediocre speed
- Terrible defences and HP
- Great 3 move coverage
- Hard to switch into attacks
- A great movepool, but Riolu can't use half of the moves

[SET]
Name: Agility
move 1: Agility
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Hi Jump Kick / Drain Punch
move 4: Ice Punch / Thunder Punch / Zen Headbutt / Bullet Punch
item: Life Orb
ability: Inner Focus
nature: Adamant

evs:196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 196 Spe
ivs: 0 HP

[SET COMMENTS]

- Drain Punch can be used instead of HJK if you don't like losing half your health when you miss
- Achieving a whopping 30 speed after one Agility, outspeeding every pokemon except for Choice Scarf Elekid, Diglett and Voltorb which all are very rare
- The fourth moveslot has a lot of different choices, but the ones on the set are the most common/useful moves.
- 0 HP IV's so Life Orb recoil will be 1 HP

[Other Options]

- Also has acces to Rock Slide, Earthquake, Bullet Punch and Shadow Claw
- Priority Bulk up is kinda neat
- You can potentially run a Swords Dance set, but you'll not likely pullof a sweep cause of the presence of Scarfers and priority

[Additional Comments]

- Entry hazard support is highly recommended to OHKO Eviolite Gligar
- Dwebble is recommended to cripple pokemon with Stealth Rock to break Sashes and Sturdy

[Checks and Counters]

- Anything that can deal Super Effective damage really
- Scarfed variants of Gligar will outspeed Riolu regardless of one Agility to then OHKO with an Aerial Ace
- Meditite can switch in everything, except for Shadow Claw
- Dwebble can potentially kill verslons of Riolu without Bullet Punch

[Dream World]

[SET]
Name: Resttalk
move 1: Rest
move 2: Sleep Talk
move 3: Roar
move 4: Overhead Throw
item: Eviolite
ability: Prankster
nature: Careful

evs:196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

- Spikes and SR support are recommended to utilize the switching around with the enemy
- I'm not sure about this but Riolu may live an Aerial Ace from Gligar this way
- Just rest first turn to nake the most out of the moves
- Prankster allows Roar and Overhead Throw to get '+1 priority' through Sleep Talk

[SET]
Name: An Annoying little prick
move 1: Toxic
move 2: Overhead Throw
move 3: High Jump Kick
move 4: Bulk Up
item: Eviolite
ability: Prankster
nature: Careful

evs: 116 Atk / 196 Def / 196 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

- This is exactly what it looks like
- You can throw status around/phaze while Bulking Up and potentially getting a KO or two

Riolu also has access to Swords Dance and Bulk Up. Rock Slide and Earthquake are other options that give great type coverage together.

What does Earthquake hit?

If you use Rock Slide, Gligar will shut Riolu down.

Bulk up won't work since Riolu has like no defence

I'll consider an SD set but you do realize that then Scarfers poo all over you

What about Double Dance?

-Swords Dance
-Agility
-Hi Jump Kick
-Ice Punch

I don't play LC so don't know if this is practical in, er, practise. It seems like a solid enough idea. Agility first, then Swords Dance if they bring in a wall that doesn't threaten you.

Earthquake and Rock Slide, like I said before, are other options, not necessarily having to be listed under a main set, since even I doubt that they'll be much of use on Riolu, considering there are things that use the combination better. Bulk Up, again, was just a suggestion to consider that I just listed because it can learn it. I did not actually intend on you actually making a Bulk Up set, as otherwise Lucario would have one (having more resistances than Riolu, it would be a better user of Bulk Up, and that's not saying much), but it was merely just a suggestion.

As for Swords Dance, it gives Riolu more offensive power and though it'll be outsped by Scarfers, well, every set has its counter. Agility wouldn't work against anything bulky enough to take a hit and OHKO back with a powerful STAB move either.

Prankster could be an option for the Swords Dance or Agility sets, but like you mentioned, Riolu is too frail to take a hit, and will usually be using the boosting moves on the switch anyway. A CB or Scarf set could also be options, but I haven't looked up their viability yet.

What about Double Dance?

-Swords Dance
-Agility
-Hi Jump Kick
-Ice Punch

I don't think that would work as again, with 40 base defenses, Riolu wouldn't survive long enough to attack, even after it has used both moves.

Gets Nasty Plot too. Shame its special movepool is crap.

Work Up for priority vacuum wave, I guess? Crunch/HJK gives a lot of coverage anyway.

Cross Chop and Brick Break in OC for not killing you, unliike HJK

Mention Bullet Punch?

Geez Riolu has a big movepool full of moves it can't use.

A Swords Dance set would be nice as Riolu and Meinfoo are the only LC fighters to gain access to the move. The Agility set looks nice and I will try it out when I have the time.

Definitely needs more checks / counters mentioned etc.

Also, yes a Swords Dance set would be good to add.

Nitpicking here:

[SET]
Name: Agility

move 2: Crunch
move 3: Hi Jump Kick
move 4: Ice Punch

ability: Inner Focus

evs:196 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 196 Spe

You are currently using the wrong format for your set(s). There should be a space between the ":" and the name of the move / set name / ability etc.

EVs should be seperated by "/" ; not commas. The correct format is Atk / Def / SpA / SpD / Spe, not "att" and "specdef"

Your Set Comments and other sections are also badly lacking, content-wise. Make sure you beef it up when you get the time to do so. Good luck.

well heres a gimmic set
riolu@ focus sash prankster
roar
copycat
filler
filler
all you need is to set up some sr or spikes then you can sweep an entire team no problem
cred to spade
can be used in any tear

Wait, it gets Prankster?

[SET]
Name: Resttalk
move 1: Rest
move 2: Sleep Talk
move 3: Roar
move 4: Overhead Throw
item: Eviolite
ability: Prankster
nature: Careful

evs:196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD

Could work? It'd be a bitch with full hazards.

Not in LC it isn't. Sash is broken by weather, which we have tons of (especially if drought goes away), hazards (which everyone uses), and without Eviolite or Oran, Riolu is extremely frail. Roar has negative priority, so not even Prankster will help. Riolu uses a move, is brought down to sash, and dies next turn.

Nah.

Sorry guys for being too inactive, i blame school/sickness
I'm still sick, but i'll try updating the thread.
Anyway reacting to megados.

That may work in OU,but in LC theres WAY too much priority flying around
Also 15 speed doesn't outspeed most Pokémon using priority.
BTW don't take a set from a sweep from YouTube and post it on Smogon since it nearly always(excluding Aron lvl1 i guess)is very gimmicky and usually won't work.

It does O_o
I can't believe i missed it :/
I'll slash it next to HJK, but i think HJK is still more viable though.
HJK will provide you with more OHKO's then with Drain Punch.
