Project RU Victim of the Week! Week 16: Arcanine (Sub)

Slowking

Item: Assault Vest
Nature: Calm
Ability: Regenerator
IVs: 0 ATT / 19 SPE
EVs: 252 HP / 72 SPA / 184 SPD
- Scald
-Future Sight/Psyshock
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail
Slowking is an extremely underrated mon in RU that has some dirty moments of griefing entire teams. This AV set gives The Hippo King some seriously heavy special bulk making it a hard check that can switch into salazzle multiple times in a match if need be. Slowking has a naturally solid SPA stat that with 72evs is able to ohko salazzle with scald. Dragon Tail allows you to bop all the dragon bois, phase zydog, and force residual hazard damage to rack up. 19 SPE IVs sets Slowking's speed 1 lower than Alolan Marowak under a trick room and give it the ol' razzle dazzle with a 68.7 - 81.7% Scald, which in some situations can make the difference between AloWak slamming his way through your whole team or not.

Mesprit @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 120 HP / 136 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Healing Wish / Trick
- U-turn

Mesprit is a lure/check to Salazzle. It can switch-in on Salazzle on a Nasty Plot or on a Z-Move after Stealth rocks, the opponent can therefore think that he is defensive due to his bulk and attack him. and you can surprise the opponent and outspeed with your Choice Scarf Mesprit.
Mesprit is not the worst pokemon to use in RU. He can OHKO threats like Zy-10%, Flygon, Swellow, Noivern, Toxicroak or Salazzle and outspeed them, or take an attack of Sceptile-M, band Bewear, offensive Roserade and AV Machamp (After SR) and kill them in return. He can also heal one of your pokemon once he do his job with Healing Wish or Trick pokemons like Bronzong, Cresselia or Registeel who disturb him.

Pyukumuku @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spite
- Toxic
- Recover
- Block

Pyukumuku is a totally underrated mon for ru stall that can Trap and PP stall a lot of Threads like Salazzle, Ninetales and rest talker like Snorlax.
Thanks to his Abillity Unaware he can tank every move of Salazzle.

252 SpA Salazzle Acid Downpour (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 156+ SpD Pyukumuku: 165-195 (52.5 - 62.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Salazzle Hidden Power Grass vs. 252 HP / 156+ SpD Pyukumuku: 76-90 (24.2 - 28.6%) -- 97.8% chance to 4HKO
252 SpA Salazzle Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 156+ SpD Pyukumuku: 90-106 (28.6 - 33.7%) -- 0.6% chance to 3HKO

The given EV Split allows Pyukumuku to allive crit HP Grass + Sludge Wave Z because of leftovers.

252 SpA Salazzle Hidden Power Grass vs. 252 HP / 156+ SpD Pyukumuku on a critical hit: 112-134 (35.6 - 42.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Crit Sludge Wave + Z Sludge Wave would be a kill but thanks to Spite Pyukumuku only has to tank 4-5 Sludge Waves without crit and some times it recovers on it so crit wouldn't matter at this Point. Pyukumuku is Pretty much safe when Salazzle has no Sludge waves left. And running a 16 PP move against a Spite Pyukumuku isn't rly reliable in the end.

Dragalge @ Black Sludge
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 HP / 204 SpD / 52 Spe
Calm Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Toxic Spikes
- Scald

Dragalges typing and special bulk serves as a good check to Salazzle as it can even tank a +2 Sludge Wave with relatively ease and it can switch into anything Salazzle
might go for. In return Dragalge either threatens Salazzle out and can setup Toxic Spikes or can kill it with its STAB Draco Meteor or pull out a hefty chunk with its good coverage option in Scald.

Calcs:
boosted dmg:
+2 248 SpA Salazzle Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 204+ SpD Dragalge: 103-122 (30.8 - 36.5%) -- 66.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
+2 248 SpA Salazzle Acid Downpour (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 204+ SpD Dragalge: 165-194 (49.4 - 58%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
+2 248 SpA Salazzle Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 204+ SpD Dragalge: 89-105 (26.6 - 31.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
+2 248 SpA Salazzle Hidden Power Grass vs. 252 HP / 204+ SpD Dragalge: 19-22 (5.6 - 6.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0 SpA Adaptability Dragalge Draco Meteor vs. 8 HP / 0 SpD Salazzle: 276-326 (98.9 - 116.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Adaptability Dragalge Sludge Wave vs. 8 HP / 0 SpD Salazzle: 101-119 (36.2 - 42.6%) -- 88.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Dragalge Scald vs. 8 HP / 0 SpD Salazzle: 170-202 (60.9 - 72.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

File:Bag Choice Scarf Sprite.png
Tyrantrum @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
Head Smash
Outrage
Earthquake
Dragon Claw

Choice Scarf Tyrantrum is a nice check to Salazzle. Tyrantrum resists both of Salazzle's STAB attacks allowing it to switch in without fear while being capable of outspeeding and OHKOing it with Earthquake.

248 SpA Salazzle Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyrantrum: 61-72 (19.9 - 23.5%) -- possible 5HKO
248 SpA Salazzle Sludge Wave vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Tyrantrum: 105-125 (34.3 - 40.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Gigalith @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Toxic

While not as common as it used to be, Gigalith is still a counter to Salazzle. Salazzle's +2 Hidden Power Grass is never a 2HKO, even after Stealth Rocks damage, and Gigalith resists Salazzle's other moves, whereas Gigalith can OHKO Salazzle with both Stone Edge and Earthquake.

+2 248 SpA Salazzle Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gigalith in Sand: 89-105 (23.7 - 28%) -- 14.2% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 248 SpA Salazzle Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gigalith in Sand: 76-90 (20.3 - 24%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 248 SpA Salazzle Acid Downpour (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gigalith in Sand: 141-166 (37.7 - 44.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 248 SpA Salazzle Hidden Power Grass vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gigalith in Sand: 130-154 (34.7 - 41.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Aerodactyl @ Life Orb
Ability: Unnerve
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Pursuit
- Roost

Aerodactyl is a fun check to Salazzle, as it outspeeds and destroys it for obvious reasons, and can Pursuit trap it when Salazzle likely tries to switch out. Aerodactyl is also capable of directly switching into any unboosted hit, including Z-Sludge Wave after Stealth Rock, and can even keep itself reasonable healthy with Roost.

Flygon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw/Defog

Scarf Flygon is a check to Salazzle, it resists both STABs and with the scarf it can easily Revenge Kill Salazzle with an Earthquake.

248 SpA Salazzle Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Flygon: 96-114 (31.8 - 37.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
248 SpA Salazzle Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Flygon: 83-98 (27.5 - 32.5%) -- 7.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Scarf Toxicroak can be a check to Absol-Mega, as it resists Absol's Stab. It can come as a revenge killer and kill Absol with Drain Punch (Low Kick and Gunk Shot only OHKO with Stealth Rocks on) but keep it with a lot of life, Sucker Punch after a Swords Dance can beat hard.

Reserving DIancie

Diancie @ Leftovers / Normalium Z
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Heal Bell

A classic set who see his difference in the diancie's spread. You always can put a Normalium-Z instead of Leftovers if you want to enjoy of a free 100% recovery once in the game, who bypass Taunt and who allow Diancie to take less damage from Knock Off on a switch. We keep the SR, to give more interest to DIancie, besides of his two powerful stabs. We can replace the SR and Diamond Storm for, why not, put Rest/Sleep Talk to allow Diancie to keep a constant recovery. Sleep Talk can activate Heal Bell which allow to cure the sleeping status, but I find this set less viable. (Maybe this set can work if you already have a SR user). Protect is also an option to take more recovery from Leftovers.
For the spread, she allow you - if you left Absol use Swords Dance and attack Play Rough while you switched on Diancie - to take at +2 two Play Rough even after taking damage from Stealth Rock.
We lose the Diancie's special bulk, but it's, in my opinion, one of the only viable counter to Absol-Mega.
If i made some English mistakes, PM to help me to fix them ^^
