Sableye (Analysis)

Yeah, IF they switch in, what if they don't? It leaves Sableye unable to do anything to alot of Pokemon. I might put it after Night Shade if QC wants me to (before if I REALLY have to...).

And 47.9% aren't enough. It's a 3HKO at best and it's not enough.

If they don't you can burn something. And you realize night shade does LESS damage than foul play in that case, right? But yeah, since you aren't listening I guess we'll just have to wait QC to say something.

Shadow sneak + hone claws could be a new option for a more physical Sableye, I believe in the possibility of this set
[SET]
name: physical Shadow
move 1: Hone Claw
move 2: Shadow sneak
move 3: Recover
move 4: Will-O-Wisp/ Toxic
item: Leftovers
ability: Prankster
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 atk

thanks to hone claws to climb accuracy, giving the possibility of fewer failures, would be a pure set of priority attack

It does, but it does more damage about 50% (or even more? don't know the exact percentage, but 107 is maximum damage output it gets with Foul Play) of the time to Heracross.

Yeah, I'm listening to what you have to say, but I just disagree with you, nothing else.

107 is more damage than 100. just saying

also how the fuck does night shade do 50% to heracross when its hp with minimum investment is 301

Foul play does 143 - 168 damage (see my post in the previous page), which is a lot more than 100. I also don't get "why it leaves sableye unable to do anything to a lot of pokemon".
If you wow while darmanitan switches, you lose. If you use night shade, you lose.
If you use foul play, darmanitan is gone for the rest of the match (victini too, chandelure won't be able to switch again). I can't see your point.

@Sprocket
I meant foul play + SR damage together

Foul Play does not take into calc the target's Choice Band iirc. It takes the user's, so Sableye would need a CB to do 47%+ to CB Heracross.

Confirmed Foul Play substitutes the target's Attack stat (including regular stat boost) instead of the user's in the damage formula. Does not get an Attack boost from items the target is holding, but if the user is holding an Attack-boosting item such as Choice Band, or has the damage-halving effect of Burn, this is factored into the damage. (MINSC, Team Rocket Elite, #2)

I dunno if i'm imagining things, but on PO i believe it accounts for CB from what I've played. So yeah, if it's wrong nevermind. Killing darmanitan and victini is still huge though.

No, my calcs are right if it would account Heracross holding Choice Band which it don't.

And it doesn't matter anyways. I forgot to include STAB into my calcs, so Night Shade does less damage, but your calcs are wrong as well.

Against Jolly Heracross: 32.1% - 37.7% (97 - 114)
Against Adamant Heracross: 33.4% - 39.1% (101 - 118)

But I'll do this: I'll put Foul Play after Night Shade, then I let QC weigh in so there's no need for further discussion about this.

107 is more damage than 100. just saying

You're misunderstanding things. If you read my post again you will see that I say that Night Shade does around 50% more damage than FOUL PLAY against Heracross, not that Night Shade does 50% against Heracross.

But that's not true anymore and doesn't matter, Night Shade does less damage than Foul Play as I forgot to include STAB.

Sableye really needs to invest in defense. Even with priority Will-O-Wisp, Sableye will need to take boosted attacks or potentially attacks on the switch. You should move 120 EVs to defense. The remaining special defense EVs allow Sableye to take 2 LO Alakazam Shadow Balls, and the extra defense EVs are helpful every match.

I really don't like the look of the trick set. It sacrifices a key part of Sableye for essentially a lame gimmick. Seems like AC material.

Ok, noted. Will change it.

Personally, I really like the Trick set. It has turned matches to my favor many times.

Just wanted to say that Foul Play has been better than Night Shade every single time I've used it. I think the only pokemon against whom I've thought "man I wish I had night shade" was a cobalion that subbed as I switched in...and that's more than compensated for by all the victini I've ohko'd.

Move Toxic to AC. Sableye really needs every available moveslot to function, and removing something vital like Taunt really kills Sableye. I also still dont like the trick set for the same reason but I guess other QC disagrees with me.

QC APPROVED 3/3

I don't really think sableye should have SpDef investment. Why? Because even burned opponents will do a lot of damage to sableye. I think spdef investment can be used only to survive from alakazam/blastoise (for block spin) because there's no need to have sableye tanking strong special attacks.

Ah, i have tried cm sableye before this analysis was created and it's decent. It works better with toxic spikes, because taunt is irremplazable in the set so you can't manage burning opponents.

Ok, listen well now. QC (Snunch) wanted that spread and it should stay that way unless they say otherwise.

Ok, this is now finally ready for GP checks. Man, I have to get back on track to keep up with "the other guys".

GPers, let's do this.

Sableye

[Overview]

As one of the few Pokemon that have no weaknesses, Sableye has always been inferior to Spiritomb due to its underwhelming stats;(semi colon) however, Sableye got blessed with a new ability in BW: Prankster. Prankster, combined with a great typing and good movepool, makes Sableye one of the best support Pokemon in the tier. Sableye's typing gives it useful immunities against to Normal-, Fighting-, and Psychic-type moves, while its movepool consists of great moves such as Will-O-Wisp, Taunt, Toxic, Trick, and Recover.(Full stop) Sableye is actually one of the only two Pokemon that has priority on its a recovery move, with the other one being Murkrow. However, Sableye still suffers with from the same downsides as before. It has a really low HP stat, while both Sableye's offensive and defensive stats are below average, with which makes Night Shade being its best attacking option. But don't let that keep you from using Sableye, thanks to Prankster it can focus on its defensive stats, and to top it off, Sableye also has acces to priority Calm Mind to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense stats to respectable levels.

[SET]
name: Prankster
move 1: Recover
move 2: Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Foul Play / Night Shade
item: Leftovers
ability: Prankster
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

This set takes full advantage of Prankster and is Sableye's best set. Will-O-Wisp will cripple most physical attackers, making it easier for both Sableye and its teammates to deal with them. Taunt is great move to use with Prankster, easily stopping the opponent from using status moves, recovering damage or,(comma) setting up. Recover helps in keep Sableye alive longer, while it also helps Sableye stall out the opposing Pokemon more easily as it has priority. Foul Play and Night Shade give Sableye an attacking option,(remove comma) in case it should get Taunted itself. Foul Play can nail many physical heavy-hitters such as Darmanitan and Victini hard on the switch, while Night Shade is a more reliable option over all for dealing consistant damage.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

There are several moves that can go into the last slot, depending on what support your team needs. Toxic is another useful status move that works better against special attackers,(comma) and other bulky Pokemon such as Chansey. Knock Off can be useful to stop Choice item and Eviolite users in their tracks. Weather support in terms the form of Rain Dance and Sunny Day is useful, as Sableye is guaranteed to get them up at least once. Torment can keep stop the opponent from(space)using the same move twice in a row, but is rather gimmicky though. You can also invest either 4, 8, or 12 EVs into Speed to keep your Sableye ahead outrun opposing Sableye, making it able allowing itto Taunt them before they Taunt your own Sableye.

Sableye should be paired with Pokemon that benefit from these kinds of its support moves. Certain Physically frail Pokemon such as Azelf and Chansey benefit from weakened physical attackers, giving them an easier time switching in, or setting up. Pursuits from Pokemon such as Escavalier being weakened, while other physically frail Pokemon such as Chansey also benefits from them being made less powerful. Taunt really helps set-up sweepers and more defensive Pokemon, such as Zoroark or Suicune, as it protects them from status moves and Taunt. Pokemon such as RestTalk Suicune really benefit from Toxic wearing the opponent down, while Pokemon such as Sawsbuck and Kingdra benefit from weather support.

[SET]
name: Trick
move 1: Trick
move 2: Recover
move 3: Taunt
move 4: Will-O-Wisp / Toxic / Night Shade
item: Iron Ball / Lagging Tail
ability: Prankster
nature: Careful
evs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

This set takes advantage of priority Trick and Iron Ball or Lagging Tail to become an excellent team supporter. By passing either an Iron Ball or Lagging Tail onto the opponent, Sableye will be able to slow down the opposing Pokemon,(comma) making them easier to deal with, which some Pokemon benefits from. Recover is used to recover restore health that Sableye might lost during battle,(comma) it's especially helpful when once Sableye has passed is passing Lagging Tail. Will-O-Wisp is a great support move and will cripple almost any physical attacker in the tier, while Toxic will drain Pokemon that Sableye cannot KO spreads a better status overall. Taunt is used to prevent other Taunters from crippling taunting Sableye, as well as keeping status at bay. Night Shade is a reliable attacking option for Sableye to use and will make it less susceptible to Taunt. Trick can also be used afterwards to screw Pokemon that rely on their item, such as Chansey and Choice users.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Just like the Prankster set, this set can also make use of 4, 8, or 12 Speed EVs to outspeed opposing Sableye that might try to who carry Taunt Sableye. The choice of item really depends on what you want to achieve be easier to deal with;(semi colon) besides slowing the opponent down, Iron Ball also make Flying-types and Pokemon with Levitate, such as Zapdos, Crobat, and Rotom-A, suspectable to Ground-type moves, as Iron Ball removes their Flying-type or Levitate ability. They will also be affected by Spikes and Toxic Spikes if they are on the side of the field. However, Lagging Tail will always make sure that the opponent moves last within their priority bracket, which can be very useful for really slow Pokemon such as Escavalier. Pokemon that benefit from faster opponents, such as Alakazam, Froslass, and Cobalion, being slowed down is a must. Mismagius, Mew, and Darmanitan are all slower than the aforementioned Pokemon and will really benefit from them being slower.

[SET]
name: Calm Mind
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Shadow Ball / Hidden Power Dark
move 3: Recover
move 4: Hidden Power Fighting / Will-O-Wisp / Taunt
item: Leftovers
ability: Prankster
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Sableye is one of two Pokemon that gets access to priority Calm Mind,(comma) and can use it pretty well thanks to its great typing. It's a quite simple set to use. Use Calm Mind to boost Sableye's lackluster Special Attack to greater levels, while boosting its Special Defense in the process. Recover is used to recover restore lost health and works great with Calm Mind and the boosts that it gives. Shadow Ball is Sableye's most powerful attacking option, but with the many Normal-types in the tier,(comma) that is immune to Shadow Ball also make Hidden Power Dark is a good choice for a reliable offensive option and STAB move. However, Hidden Power Fighting compliments Shadow Ball perfectly and hits Normal-, Steel-, and Dark-types for super-effective damage, something Shadow Ball and Hidden Power Dark can not boast. Will-O-Wisp is still viable option on set as well, boosting Sableye's defensive prowess even more, while doing some damage to Pokemon such as Chansey and Snorlax in the process. Taunt is also an option, as it keeps Sableye protected from status and Taunt.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Toxic is an option as it deals more damage than Will-O-Wisp over time. Substitute is another great move that Sableye can make use of, as it protects it from damage and status. Substitute also works great in tandem with Recover and Calm Mind, and can even be used with Toxic. Entry Hazards can help take down some opposing Pokemon more easily. Roserade and Nidoqueen can set up Spikes, Toxic Spikes, and Stealth Rock respectively, while Sableye is able to take Psychic-type moves directed at them. Screen support is also helpful while Sableye is setting up. Uxie makes a great choice, and it can also set up Stealth Rock as well. Heracross is a real nuisance due to guts, and needs to be dealt with. Suicune has excellent defensive stats and can take it on, while Moltres resists both of Heracross's STAB moves and can easily KO it with Air Slash. However, Moltres needs to be careful of the occasional Rock-type move Heracross might carry.

[Other Options]

Sableye has some other support moves it can use to support help its team, but they are inferior to the listed moves, though. Confuse Ray can see some use, but confusion is rather unreliable. Swagger can also be used to confuse the opponent, but a free +2 boost to a Pokemon such as Heracross isn't that nice if they stay in. Mean Look can trap a Pokemon that is either hit with a statused or can't do anything to Sableye. Captivate can be used to lower the opposing Pokemon Special Attack stat by two levels, but it only works on the opposite gender, so it's really gimmicky. Sableye can also make use of Hone Claws and Psych Up in combined with Swagger, but Sableye's Attack stat isn't really good enough for it to pull it off. If you do opt to use such a set, Sableye has access to Sucker Punch, Shadow Sneak, Shadow Claw, and Brick Break as its attacking options.

[Checks and Counters]

Heracross is the most dangerous threat to Sableye in the tier. It doesn't care about Taunt, nor while Will-O-Wisp and Toxic are made useless due thanks to Guts, and making Sableye will easy to KO Sableye with boosted Megahorn. Iron Ball and Lagging Tail will cause problems for put some stop to itthough. Victini and Darmanitan also fall into this category, as they are immune to Will-O-Wisp and will OHKO Sableye with V-create and Flare Blitz,(comma) respectively with ease. However, they need to be careful switching if Sableye is carrying Foul Play, as it will OHKO both of them. Faster Prankster users, such as Tornadus, Whisicott, Murkrow, and Speed invested Sableye will always stop Sableye if they carry Taunt, as they will be able to Taunt it before Sableye can Taunt them.

I've probably missed some things here, but I'll give this stamp 1/2

nice job, just a quick note between "while" and "and"
I feel like "while," in most cases, shows an option. For example (although this is pretty much the most clear-cut case), Shadow Ball lowers the opponent's SDef, while HP Dark hits everything. That sentence implies you aren't using both Shadow Ball and HP Dark. In most cases, "and" just sounds more natural to me. Of course while is still correct in this kind of context: "while that was happening...."
